When you see Brazilians flooding every social media platform related to Slipknot, this is the reason. Eloy loves Brazilian culture and incorporates very regional rhythms into his solos. He is not one of those annoying metalheads. It’s not just because he is Brazilian that we love him.

I think there's more than that: every country in the world "produces" people with musical talent. Now, why some countries have the greatest number of famous musicians? I think there's nothing to do with musical talent, but with (1) conditions of life, and (2) the insertion of the country in the "musical system". This "musical system" is the structure formed by, among other things, a imposition of musical taste (nearly all the popular music in the world has american influences) that by it's turn is influenced by economic dominance. So, a country that has certain conditions of life in which music is important, and whose music coadunates well with the dominant taste (the american taste), has good chances of produce musicians recognized abroad.

This is actually the first time in something like 25+ years I'm hearing the name Horacio El Negro again. I saw him play at a drummers conversation but don't recall where in Germany exactly it was. That son clave stuck with me till today. Thanks for bringing up the memory 😊

I don't think i ever smiled so much watching a drummer play. When playing the solo recreation, he's just dancing on his throne while playing. It looks and sounds so fun because of it. I'm gonna go practice now.

It is impossible that there is a perfect drummer... Until Eloy came. Overall creativity, speed, musicality, dynamics, knowledge, culture, accuracy and his maturity. Such a wonderful time to see these kinds of drummers at this time where speed is the only thing in their minds.

Hi Eloy. The truth about your training for your Modern Drummer Festival 2005 performance is that you were trained by Gustavo Meli and after that you won that MD festival Edition. It's really worth mentioning. Watch the Vera Figueiredo, Eloy and Gustavo Meli live video for further details.

This is a profound video for three reasons: We get to see a side-by-side comparison of an early pro drummer with his final form. We get to hear this important solo performed live on a modern recording. Eloy gets an opportunity to redo a critical moment from his life in front of an even larger audience. That's a very, very rare opportunity. This video did not disappoint on any of these levels. 👌 Joey could not possibly be happier. RIP

The way he was describing each breakdown of the piece made it sound so simple. And he was saying he couldnt play some parts, cmon now, of course he can, so humble, but the changes were so much clearer and groovier, he knew when to let it breathe through the feel rather than the technicality and those moments added a refreshing taste and flare and playfulness. Then he just melts your face with that metal groove at the end masterfully done. Eloy is a fantastic drummer indeed.

Holy FORKS, the ending had him not only playing fast but LOOKING like he was sped up. I've never seen anyone play that fast/hard without changing form. Like, when people play that fast they are always taking some kind of physical shortcut to achieve it, but this dude WASN'T. Insane.

First heard of Eloy through a Jeff Loomis shout out. I absolutely love that he's all about the musicality of percussion, and that his path took him away from the flashy flarey flexy chops and rolls and into just making the most incredible dynamic choices. He's extremely humble and honest for such a machine.

Around 10 years ago, I met Eloy after an Andre Matos concert in Madrid. I remember I knew who he was, because I've seen the video when he was 14, and I remember telling him: "Keep practicing, one day you will be as big as Mike Portnoy or any great drummer out there"... 'Till this day I hope he'd taken my words as an inspiration to become better, and not anything else.
Big respects for what he has become.
