You are not Andrew Camarata, nor Diesel Creek. You are a whole different animal and thats the beauty of it. Keep doing those videos, your 65 thousand followers will enjoy it as always. Much love from Iceland.
Your heading in the right direction. I’d yank the engine and get a good look at everything and reseal everything while it’s out. I feel pretty confident that the coolers will need to come off and maybe replaced, and the block flushed. I’d also scrap that tube and find another one. someone did a sketchy repair when it should’ve just been replaced. I’ve brought back old tractors to life, and some of them got pretty expensive regarding parts and my time. At least you’ll know about what you have done to it. Cat is pretty proud of their parts! Lol. Keep it up, great content!
I think it's great you take the time to film, edit and talk about the gifts people send you, and read out letters and what not. People go out of their way to send you stuff, and its great you go the extra mile to show appreciation.
Jeff… you are an inspiration to everyone… old school perseverance is something we should all appreciate… l look forward to all your videos but especially one of dozers
🥰🥰 LOVED the video Jeff, AND that CLOSING AMAZINGLY "BLUE RIBBON" 😁😁🫠 !!! YES - YES - YES ... (ALL IN) ... when it's all done you will look BACK at this as "NO BRAINER" and the boys will thank ol JEFF for generations coming!!!! THANKS JEFF, KEEP WRENCHING .. GOD BLESS 🙏
You're going to be glad you opened up that engine once you see what that Dexos clay has done to it. Shame to go to all the work and expense you're going to just to have to do it twice.
Jeff, I appreciate that you take the time to show the stuff we send. I’m not even sure how you find the time to make videos and still get anything done. I’m still trying to put together the videos of bringing home my 613 from about a year ago.
Jeff, Awesome video as usual. Pack up that trunion tube and send it down to "IC Weld" (a fellow RUclipsr, heavy equipment welding magician) down in Texas and he'll get it straightened out for you...and just remember what Dirty Harry said "...a man's got to know his limitations"
One trade school trick for gasket scraper hydraulic pump vain blade welder to large flat blade screwdriver. Great work done, on D9H. Go through tractor and good machine for thousands of hours!!
Thanks for the video Jeffrey great job getting it apart by yourself, one day at a time. Take care of yourself and family and Griffery and be Blessed 👍❤️❤️.
Well Jeff, with all of your experience, with these pieces of equipment, I suspect you already know what to do with the engine. You will just have mull it over, ask folks on RUclips & Instagram.., and then wake up one morning, and head over to the shop with Mr. Griffey, and “pull it out”. Great video series here, Thank you sir.
A little Lever Hoist 3 ton would be handy for that job, Great for leveling heavy jobs like that....Great Vid keyboard mechanic as always.... 2 D9's will be awesome

Great video Jeff always enjoy watching you disassemble your D9H . At least you have the service truck to do the heavy lifting. Thanks for sharing stay safe Jeff.
Jeff, you’ll never get advice from me nor a gift as I’m in Australia and the postage would be double the price of the product sent, but I have subscribed and follow every video you produce. What I can send you is my sincere thanks, I love your slower paced videos, your commentaries transmit your thoughts and your knowledge of Cat gear is slowly adding to my terminology catalogue. You keep doing what you do mate
Right angle die grinder and a scotch brite disc. I sure wished I had one back in the day when I was overhauling a D343 and the prior mechanic decided it was a good idea to glue the pan on with aviation Permatex. It took me two days to get it off and cleaned up!
Measure the width of the frame horns before you loosen the engine mounts. Measure the inside of the hardnose. Breaking the trunion tube ment a hard impact. High gear into a scraper. Hit a hidden rock and stopped dead in its tracks. I worry about that frame rails could be twisted. Especially with the engine mount ripped up on the left. This might become a parts donor to rebuild the second D9H sitting there waiting. Just an observation from a guy who wishes he was there
Great content, I wonder if Jeff and family ( and Griffey) have thought about rigging up a shipping container lined cover over their concrete area like other contractors have, great during winter!
@@Jpaydirt that's good, I only suggested that cover for your concrete apron because I would feel sorry for you on the tools in winter, snowing, freezing cold temperatures, even mr griff not silly enough to be out there!
Hey Jeff, I was watching you fight through those gaskets , sometimes you take a rosebud on your torch and burn those gaskets really good and that will sometimes release them. Also, you can take a ball, peen hammer, using the ball peen side start tapping on those gaskets and a lot of times they’ll just break into pieces, not always. It depends on the gasket , also you can go down to your local welding supply and get 5 inch or 7 inch Scotch-Brite pads and the back up pad to put on an angle grinder. This is a great way to remove big amounts of gasket quickly, I like to do that with the scotch Brite, but not sand into the metal. , Scotch-Brite pads can absolutely ruin a machined surface as I’m sure you are aware.😮 Oh, and PS, please don’t make videos like Andrew Camerata, when you add music it’s always way better than anybody else’s. Thanks Jeff.
U have no need to compete u already have em beat jeff. Love your content wish i could come out and help you wrench on your old iron. But instead ill keep on painting these ol bnsf, csx,cp,norfolk southern etc pos's. Keep up the good work

Jeff I would contact I C Weld on the hard nose issue. He's a long way from you but he has fixed some twisted up parts. Maybe he has some ideas that'll help. Finding a good used part would be a challenge. Good luck.
I bought a impact swivel socket just for those bolts you need to wack with a MFBH rust then I ended up using my hydraulic torque multiplier one thing for sure your not afraid to work that cross bar breaks from prying rock stumps out of ground with blade tilt
About remove this bolt is real pain but i you want smothing good no choice.i work same 594 they are tough machine but when find stuff must doing right.thank you about work you do expose how this was built.
You could try to talk #KT3406E into doing a joint engine inspection/rebuild on the old beast? One thing is for certain, that guy knows his way up one side and down the other of Cat engines. (Not saying you don't either)
I'm amazed you were able to pull the hard nose without wearing a hard hat. So far you have exposed some wtf fixes on the dozer. I makes perfect sense to pull the motor and go through it.
Well, I like your channel just the way it is Jeff. I watch Andrew too once in a while, but I always watch your stuff. Andrew does a lot of different things, but he's got a lot of cowboy in him when it comes to approach and execution of a job. You're a lot more organized and planned out, which makes a better job of whatever you get into. Nothing wrong with either of your channels to me, it's just a matter of what I feel like watching today. That's the beauty of the ole' YT, if you can think of it, it's on here to see. What's the old saying? In for a penny, in for a pound? lol I agree totally with the consensus. ANY thing that is connected to the coolant system needs cleaned, or all you've suffered so far would have been for nothing. And watching Andrew Caramata is a way of accomplishing a job, not THE way to accomplish a job. He used a chainsaw to modify his dash to accept a new radio. That's ONE way of doing it. Not necessarily the correct way, or even the best way. He does things his own way, and he will be the first to admit at the end of the video "...I probably should have done it this way..." But the guy is one hell of a go getter. He subscribes to the old motto "don't let getting it right get in the way of getting it done".

I don’t remember the details of the other d9h. Was it a parts machine or gonna be a runner? Are you questioning whether you started on the right one
it runs but has the same problem this one has, not one good chrome rod, and she's leaking oil from under the head on the camshaft side

Tap the surface with a ball pin hammer lightly. And I'll stretch the gas. Get enough to where you could scrape it off real easy.
