    My dad used to take me to work with him in the summertime. I learned how start and run these old cable rigs at an early age. Everything was cable back in the 50’s and early 60’s. I started working on the pipelines in 1964. It was in the early 70’s before getting into Local #12 in Southern California. In the 70’s I spent hours and hours pioneering and building right a ways and doing back filling and dress up work on an old Cat D-7 46-A and a cat D-8 15-A. It was amazing when the company that I worked for started buying hydraulic equipment. It was so nice to pull or push a lever to change blade angles and positions. No more jumping off and muscleling those heavy awkward blades around.😂😅🤣 I loved kicking those pony motors in gear and watching those huge smoke rings shoot up into the air and listening to the awesome sound of those mains taking off on a cold morning in northern Utah. Those were good days. I worked in that field for 50 years before hanging it up. Thank you for making these wonderful videos bringing back those wonderful memories.

    Quick story about D8H's, in 1967 Vietnam we were using these machines to help lay down Marston Mat (commonly known as PSP planking to build temporary runways. We would air drop them from C-130 Aircraft at heights up to 10', they survived, most of the time.

    • @proberts34
      @proberts34 3 месяца назад +1

      Yeah, something that heavy (~50,000 lbs, ~22,700 kg) needs a LAPES drop, a tried and true technique for delivering particularly heavy loads to a very specific area.
      For those mildly interested, look around for LAPES (low altitude parachute extraction system) drop. It's a fascinating, if potentially dangerous, procedure. For example, the tragedy at Ft. Bragg in 1987 was caused by the pilot coming in too steep and leveling off too late, which caused the C130 to hit the ground mid-procedure. Believe it or not, the C130 probably could have recovered from that on its own (such magnificent aircraft). But then the load was extracted and the aircraft's center-of-gravity shifted enormously, the pilot couldn't recover the aircraft, and it crashed into the trees.

    Hey Matt ! Your French sub here. The history of this big beautiful lady is awesome, as well as the connection to your shop's concrete pad ! Can't friggin wait for the awesome upcoming restauration videos ! 🤩
    I've been following your channel for quite a long time (since the zinc plant overfly video I believe) and it just keeps getting better and bigger. I'm genuinely happy for your success, Matt ! 👍🤟👏 AND, the intro with the Semi-Supervilains is just 😋👌

    What a great sight to see the old girl running. Even though she is banged up she is beautiful. I grew up in the logging industry of Northern California and remember when the D8 came out in 1945 Great video..........Thanks Bill Percell

    Looks like a great machine Matt. Can’t wait to see this project progress. Keep your eyes open for a set of injectors for the Auto-car. Looks like you have a leaking injector, white smoke, usually un burnt fuel. It’s great to see the old iron coming back to life! Thanks Matt.

    The jet engine whine from that dozer has got me thinking about an alternate timeline where turbine engines took over from diesels in the late 50s. We'd have JetA1 Creek reviving old turbine-powered Cat T8 dozers. 🤣

    Dear Matt,
    It’s so amazing to see such an old Caterpillar D8 bulldozer running again although this mighty machine needs a lot of love indeed but when she’ll look like Christine I’m positive you’ve have to show this dragon in some exhibitions and for sure she’ll get a lot of attention. Send you love from the Netherlands

    As usual, these videos about CPR on a D-8 were most interesting and informative!! It’s a pleasure to see an abandoned pile of steel come to life again rather than just oxidizing away to scrap!! The opening scenes are a tribute to your hard work and tenacity. I’ve been watching since you were putting in drains around the church hand first brought the containers in! Your Empire shows steady growth especially from the drone shots! Keep on truckin’😊

    Enjoying the video Matt. Some quick feedback. I really like the time lapse footage especially vs just cutting out long repetitive parts. You're really good at this. When stuff gets cut out it feels like we missed out. Thanks for taking us along on these projects and awesome editing.

He just needs the right tools that would be fun to watch and I like that he’s keeping his videos at around an hour or more those little short ones for 25 or 30 minutes you don’t really get to see Him do much. Thank you.
