I can't imagine there are more than 3 places on the planet who could do this work... let alone "WOULD" do this work. This is a one of a kind repair in this era. Thank you ADS for putting this out.

3825 for a turbo and 3500 for a dozer leaves about $500,000 of headroom before you hit the cost of a new dozer. So if Matt’s salvaged machine pushes dirt for a couple years, he’s coming out way ahead!

Matt is the best of what he does. Before he started that RUclips channel, he was a heavy equipment operator for a construction company. What equipment he was using was an excavator. I was watching him for a few years. One of the first projects he was working on was that place he was converting into an apartment. He eventually sold it because it had issues. He devoted the time he had on buying construction equipment and getting the engines started in them. Every time he bought more equipment, all those engines in them started. What was the first project he did when I started watching those videos he posted? If was possibly the Autocar heavy-duty truck. He said in that video that his grandfather drove one of them. That's the reason why he bought that truck. So he bought that D8 CAT, and that turbocharger was in need of newer parts. The man at the start of this video had his hand on the box, which was when I stopped the video. It's time to continue watching it.

thanks for the video! its still a little awkward but your not used to being on camera so that will change. it is interesting to follow a build and then see a part come to you for in a way a complete new sub project on the build to eventually hopefully end up in a new running vehicle.

I have been operating on about 3 hours of sleep over the last two days (it sucks being old and sick), and I started watching this over breakfast. I am 53:34 into the video, and my eyes and body tell me to return to bed. I will save this video and pick it back up at lunchtime. Thanks to Matt for posting the link to your channel. Subscribed and already addicted. I relied on Grammarly to repair all of the mistakes in my post.

I worked for a Caterpillar dealership in the late 1970s. The area I worked in, built natural gas compressors, powered by natural gas burning engines. The mag and turbo shop, rebuilt so many of these things that we had two guys working full time on them from a pile of cores. They were easy to repair, but ... they had parts. You did a great job on this unit.

You and your crew do a GREAT job reworking old machines. I have a question, being a now retired machinist and love to work on old cars and engines myself, I am wondering why you ground the shaft before straightening it? Now the shaft grinds are not true.

Good eye. Great question. Straightening is in fact first. Then grind, polish, and balance. We had wheels chucked in each machine for video production and so we could get in and out of the machine shop quickly and we captured the processes out of order. Are you looking for a job? Your attention to detail is what we look for at Area Diesel Service.

@@AreaDieselService LOL, If I was in my 20's or 30's I'd say yes but I am a retired machinist now. Thank you for the offer tho.
So it is the editor's mistake or just not knowing the correct procedure.
Have a great day guys ! And remember, I'm watching you :)

I like that you guys are willing to rebuild something that is obsolete. If you took that to most other shops they'd send you back out the door bcuz they couldn't order parts.

That looks like an expensive repair I would think with all the diesel shops and companies that someone would make a turbo that could replace the original Style, of course that wouldn't be cheap either. These guys go by my dad's rule don't ever throw anything away you may need it sometime
