First job out of high school in 1970 was at a local family- owned garden center who also sold Satoh tractors. They also had a commercial grounds maintenance operation. Many times, we would go to the site of a new home and do landscaping ,planting trees, shrubs and even a sod lawn. and they used those Satoh tractors. For their size they were amazing and so reliable. You have a true gem there. It deserves a full restoration for sure.
I think that you should video everything you do with that tiny tractor. The steam clean, the replacement of the exhaust manifolds, the repaint, and especially the gifting. Iwould love to see your wife during it with a big smile as well. GREAT JOB getting it running. Can hardly wait to see it all fixed up with a pink paint job.

Considering how little it took to get it running, you got one hell of a deal on that little tractor! If you do decide to repaint it, I suggest dark crimson for the areas that are now dark blue [that color will show the dirt less], Barbie pink for the areas that are white, and a leopard print seat cover. I have that exact little tractor. Glow plugs are a must lol. I was screaming in my head GLOW PLUGS, it'll start, ha ha. I found an old loader, and made it fit. Wasn't easy, but it was a fun project. That little hydraulic pump, on the right side of the engine, is enough to operate it well. Great little tractor. Great video. Thanks.
Matt, your excitement every time you get an old engine running is infectious. I sit here cheering for you every time. I really enjoyed this one in particular -- what a great old tractor! Thumbs up for a great video, and definitely a thumbs up for pink paint and wrap!
I'm not a diesel mechanic by any stretch, my experience is with gasoline engines, but watching Matt revive several of his machines over the past couples years I've learned quite a bit on how to troubleshoot diesels, large and small. Don't own any, but if I do at some point in the future, I think I'll have a better understanding of how to work on them.
Matt, your sense of humor and mechanical sensibility,...I can honestly say you're someone I could enjoy hanging around with. When you said your wife doesn't want a tractor, but you're gonna give her one anyway, that's exactly what I'd say about my own wife.
I just love this channel! Honestly, it is inconceivable to me how anyone could watch the content Matt provides and not hit the "Like" button... just look at the man's face when a laid up machine thunders to life for the first time in years! Now, show us how excited Ms. Eva gets when she sees her "new" tractor for the first time... Merry Christmas, Matt!
And after finally making it to 37:04 I love your expressions of joy when things start. I feel it with you because I too have been defeated so many times trying to start things.
I was going to say it was good to see you driving the blue 6.0 again but I had a feeling it was old footage confirmed by the "20 months later". I continue to hope for a walkaround of your sweet new red Super Duty.
Love your excitement when you get something started, no matter how small. Those little tractors were certainly bomb proof, they were designed to that you could do all the maintenance yourself. I always love it when you save something and then used for its designed purpose. With regards Eva's present, anything like my wife then don't be surprised if your not around to put anymore content out ! 😂🤣😂
I’m jumping on this wagon, Matt’s “let’s throw this thing back together and see what happens” is like the diesel creek version of “hold my beer”. lol I would’ve had the whole thing in the parts soaker for a week and would still only have a 10% chance to get it running. Great job Matt Your intuition is on point.
I genuinely feel that you're turning into my favorite youtuber, because the wholesomeness you have and the genuine care you put in for all of your equipment and the people you care for in life
Yep… The current Deere and Kubota subcompact diesels are the modern equivalent. The issue is they’re way more “refined” and therefore expensive compared to what these Mitsubishis used to sell for (inflation adjusted).
This is not a "garden" tractor. It's a tractor period. This were made for small farms nothing "garden" about it. Americans can't get this right. LOL 😂 😂
I love how he builds his dream shop with some outdoor coverage, but still gets down out in the weather next to a conex. That's a man that loves his work!
I was thinking why didn't you drag it into the shop and at least be out of the rain. Then I realized I would have done it closer to the tools than rain coverage also
It's more likely to avoid damage to the concrete. The little apron, he's not really concerned about. But putting equipment on green concrete is a recipe for cracks. You generally want to keep it clear for 2 weeks minimum. Sure, it's a baby tractor in comparison to some of his other equipment, but better safe than sorry.
Howdyyawl from the land down under. What a gem of a find. A good little market garden tractor. With attatchments too. Your wife will love it, even if she doesn't want it. You picked well. Enjoy.😊
As usual, Matt took the time to make her all work, and will be great to keep it for the farm, with the attachments alone. Seeing his face lite up when he finally gets things running is priceless and watching him drive this all over the property and then doing donuts on the driveway, was again Priceless! If you don't drop any more videos before Christmas Matt, wishing you and Eva a very Happy and Merry Christmas! And the same to all here! Look forward to more videos and a new year of new projects in the new shop!
Matt, I rarely say much, just know I love watching you do what you do. This was a lot of fun watching you get that tractor running...I look forward to many more
Cool pick Matt! When I saw the fuel spurting and the sparks from the starter flying around,I thought you might wind up with an EXternal combustion engine. Also - these revivals would be way easier if you had one of those starter jumper switches for jumping the solenoid - just a suggestion based on 40 years of engine work. EDIT: and Eva just showed up with one!!
External combustion engines add a lot of excitement and make good video content but don't do much for the tractor 😃 If it was gasoline instead of diesel I'd be willing to bet that's exactly what he would've had
Your story about giving your wife the tractor reminds me of a real life gift exchange our friend had with his wife. Their birthdays were close together. He wanted this special shotgun, so he bought it for his wife for her birthday. She bought him a dress (that she wanted) for his birthday. And they had a gift exchange. So, when your birthday rolls around, don't be surprised.
Well done Matt. I rebuilt an identical tractor in Papua New Guinea some years back. It was badged as a Ford 2000 ( I think) and the engine (also identical to yours) was made by Shibaura, out of Japan. A full rebuild from nose to tail, saw it mowing grass happily for many years after. Good memories!.
Kudos for going back and cleaning up the lawn damage. I was taught always leave a place as good as or better than you found it. Sweet find. Great video and I’d wait until you have heat in the workshop before giving Eva the tractor. Just in case…
It's great to see an old little tractor running again. I'll bet each time you show up at the NAPA store the guys behind the counter are thinking, "what is Matt going to ask for today?" Dig out the old parts catalogs.😆
If he wasn't alone, he could just roll this stuff off at 5 times the revs he can possibly get out of the starter, and save the ether. Almost anything will start if you roll it to the red line. Actually, he can do it alone by hauling it up a mountain.
Matt has a 2 stroke diesel now and those take API CF-2 rated low sulfur oil to prevent coking problems. Strangely, the Wal Mart brand is CF-2 rated but the made for purpose oil is Delo 100, which your NAPA will probably have to order for you. Anyway, Rotella is wrong for 2 stroke. It also would not surprise me if air cooled diesels might want a higher temperature formulation than water cooled diesels, the same way air cooled 2 stroke gas does not take the TC-W3 made for water cooled boat 2 strokes. Probably same for air cooled gas lawnmowers.
I've been watching resto and junkyard revival videos for years: this is an absolute masterclass. You touched on every newb question and solution for the most part. And what a story just getting it run was. The whole diagnosis, it was like a well written novel to be honest. This is why I love machines, and secondly, why I love your channel. Well done, brother.
Hi Matt and family from Australia. My husband is a truck driver and your channel is one of the first he checks when he is home. We love the content and have fun with your repair videos. We also love Matt's enthusiasm when he gets something to start. Keep up the good work. God's blessing to you all and hope you have a healthy, happy and successful 2023. We will continue to watch and enjoy. Diane and Denis
About the glow plugs, there’s a good chance that’s an indirect injection diesel. Most small kubotas are and that is the reason they don’t like starting without glow plugs. Also gotta be super careful with ether on indirect injected motors really easy to detonate cylinders. Good job saving the old girl!
Hello Matt. You changed the rear wheel axle seal on back wheel. You assembled it without grease on wheel bearings. I am referring to the big old truck with leaking axle seals.
That little tractor is all kinds of awesome! Great save! A little bit at a time, video by video, I'm encouraged to one day try to revive my 62' 801D Powermaster I bought saving it from the crusher. Blessings and respect!
Really glad to see this thing run and be in such good condition! Don't know if she'll appreciate it like us but, hope you hang on to it. Waiting for more on Dreamshop!
As I said on your last vid after the concrete pour Matt, you should have dug out and shuttered an inspection pit on one side of that open canopy but still under cover, it would be a life saver for getting under things like the cat belly pan for instance, plus would make oil changing a breeze, remember how you struggled on your back to change those hoses underneath the thing.
Like a lot of comments are saying, this video just makes ya feel good and puts a smile on your face! I am partial to these little tractors and it is so good to see them go again. I confess I cringe about the repaint, but it might take that to make the wife get on board, ha! You are great Matt!
I have several small tractors like those. Yes the glow plugs and good starter speed are imperative for them. Awesome little machines. I would have a farm full of them. Great video as always. Take care my friend.
I've been buying old lawn tractors and fixing them and reselling them lately, I picked up an older Allis lawn tractor for $50, way bigger than what I need, it wouldn't run, deck belt was gone and it had a hydraulic setup on it I would assume was for a snow plow. All the thing needed was a O-ring in the carb and I threw on a clicky clack fuel pump it had this vacuum one, and the thing runs amazingly, I swapped out my Troybuilt for it and been using it, I'd like to find that snow plow for it.
You've collected so many things over the past 3 years I forgot what all you had till I went back and watched some old videos. How about a property walk thru and update on all the equipment. I feel that would be an hour long video in itself.
I have to say, I watch a lot of videos on RUclips but I don’t wait in anticipation as much as I do for yours. It’s how you film, how you choose the content. I really like everything you do but also how you do it.. Great job in general!!!
The look of sheer delight on your face whenever something finally starts is always a joy to see. And I love your thorough and explained processes of working through the problem. I was a turret mechanic in the late '80s/early '90s. Vehicles weren't my specialty, but using what I know and what I've learned watching your videos makes me pretty confident that come the apocalypse, I have a good chance of getting anything my party of survivors stumbles across to start & run.
Would love to see an update on this little tractor with the new paint job and just how it's cleaned up in general. And also how your wife reacted to the gift, haha.
By now this channel is part of my daily routine. Get up, brew a coffee, watch some Diesel Creek! Honestly I love it so much when old iron gets a second chance...
I always enjoy it when you get your "new" equipment to run! Your joy when the engine begins to run is contagious. You are a great diesel mechanic and diagnostician, in my opinion. Another opinion: keep the little Mitsubishi tractor out there on your property. I doubt Ms. Eva would enjoy running it. I think she would appreciate you using it to rototill her garden area for her. As you said, "she doesn't want a tractor" and since it's kind of a rough ride, it is doubtful that she would utilize it. I would suggest that you fix up the blue Jeep and give that to her. Put a roll bar and a top on it and make it presentable and I'll bet she would drive that around. Just my thoughts on the subject.
As always, great video Matt. Always impressed by your way of figuring out a problem and overcoming it. Eva probably won't be too overjoyed with the gift but pretty sure she'll love the paint job and the thought put in to it. Keep up the great content, I always look forward to your videos hitting.
I have one 11982 model it has 3000 hr on it only thing I have done to it is as waster pump. The PTO is 500 1000 and direct drive they are a grate little tractpr
They were commonly used by farmers in Japan, for farming and working at cultivating and harvesting rice. They are small, but well built like the B600 Kubota that we commonly see in North America. Kubota tractors seemed to be more common around Narita, north of Tokyo, but there was a Mitsubishi dealer near where we stayed, and they sold equipment to compete with Kubota. There were other brands, but I own a Kubota 4x4, and a KH90, and only had eyes for Orange.
I’ve never wanted to paint something so badly!!! That’s so sick! I was kinda wondering what you were gonna do with it considering you have the ventrak, you’d easily get your money back and then some if you decided to sell it. I know soooo many people that don’t want a huge farming tractor but don’t want a ride-on mower, they want something in between like that :D Either way, that’s awesome!!
Matt, you have always made stunning videos, your enthusiam when it goes right is halarious, but your talent for restoring these old machines is top notch. ATB to you & Eva have a great Holiday season.
5-19-24 This is one of the older ones I missed, so I decided to watch it this evening. When you started futzing around with the injectors I saw the glo-plugs, and wondered why you were ignoring them. This is one of those projects that screams out for a remote starter button, and a remote glo-plug switch. Especially since you had no key. After all, if there are glo-plugs they must be there for a reason, right? :) Glad you got it running. Love seeing an old horse come alive after sleeping for so long. EDIT.... I made my comment about the remote starter before watching the rest after you got it running. Glad someone thought to send you one.
Another winner Matt. Especially satisfying. I've never worked on a diesel engine but after a few years of watching you, I think I have the algorithm down and could make a fair attempt. Educational and, from the comments, therapeutic for a whole lot of watchers. Merry Xmas and many more happy years of having fun for you and yours.
It is nice seeing you revive another old equipment. That little tractor sure is a survivor the fact, that it sat quite some time and still most things works. Can't wait to see another video of it.
A couple suggestions for you, Matt, for the alternator, go to a local alternator rebuilder with your unit and get it rebuilt, or get an automotive replacement as they are at least very similar to automotive models and also, asked them to get you a plug for it. You can wire it in yourself. Second, you can make an exhaust manifold with some weld bend elbows and some pipe, and reuse the old exhaust flanges. Tractor supply has Stanley mufflers, and should have one in your size. Another idea is to make some fenders for the rear wheels. Old trailer fenders might de a good starting point. It would make a good attempt at keeping mud from flying on you or the Mrs. Aside from that, I'd say you have yourself a good tractor. Keep up the good work. One more thing, I'm sure that you noticed, when editing your video, that your PTO pulley is a bit bent. You should be able to straighten it with a little love.
i appreciate your civil language. When people use the f-bomb two times a sentence it is refreshing to listen to a you-tuber that knows civility and does not use the f-bomb. Keep on keeping on. Thank you!
Small tractors like this are so cool 😎 hopefully you get more loaders on your channel in the future too. Also shout out to you for working in the snow/rain for us
I know you will have figured it out by the time you see this but those little 2,3,and 4 cylinder's diesels need glow plugs to start below 40, have 8 of those type tractor currently, I buy and sell them as a side biz
Matt, another starting aid that i have used is to atomize regular gasoline to start a 1940s D7 cat dozer with elctric starter. I just put gas on a rag and wrapped it around the intake at the top of the air cleaner.
Thanks for this video Matt, I have a small two cylinder Hinomoto E15 tractor and it wouldn't start as well with either. I removed the intake on it also and sprayed both cylinders as best I could with some Kano-Kroil and gave it a day to soak and I was counting to 20 with the glow plugs on but extended it to 30 about three times and it finally started and has been starting with about 20 seconds one time every since. The lift works fine and mine has a strainer that you clean and reinstall for the lift. The transmission, lift and the rear end all use the same oil on this tractor, 4 gallons and the engine about a gallon. Keep up the good videos and thats going to be a nice shop when you get it finished, love the heated floor idea. Lee
Funny thing about this video is the first video I watched of Diesel Creek was when you started the Clark Michigan loader shown in this video. Watching your enthusiasm and persistence in starting these abandoned motorized machines is inspiring.
When starting these machines that have been sitting for long periods of time, you should remove the battery leads from the old dead battery and hook the jump pack leads directly to the battery cables. The dead battery drags down the voltage and robs you of the cranking speed you need.
Great video! I probably would have bailed on that engine ever starting! Glow plugs do make a difference, but never thought it be that dramatic! Great work, Matt. Your donuts in the roadway created one of the best faces I've ever seen on you! Hilarious... like you'd just been given $5 at an old fashioned candy store, 50 years ago! Thanks for taking us with you on another fun adventure! You and your family have the best Christmas ever! Stay well, stay safe!
The difference is dramatic because an indirect injection engine squirts fuel into a small precombustion chamber where the glowplug is located. That small chamber is surrounded by a large mass of cold steel and until that steel is warm or there is a red hot glow plug, the engine will not start. Using glow plugs saves a lot of starters, ring gears, and batteries. Basic diesel mechanicing.
My family used to have one of these growing up, bulletproof little tractors. Used and abused since before I was alive yet it always managed to shake itself awake. You don’t see these a lot anymore it seems.
Nice asset! But quite a struggle.🤗 I can't stop wondering what would have happened if you used the glow-plugs right from the start...🙃 @14:38 Did you see that mouse fleeing to hide between the front right wheel and the container? 😃 @53:51 It will surely not be the same, but a cushioned chair would do a lot. Maybe it's even possible to spring load it...😉 After all it is for Eva!😁
Little bugger has a lot of similarities to my little international 234 tractor the ignition switch is exactly the same Mitsubishi must have built for them for international. Looking forward to seeing the shop in full swing
I was thinking the same thing they are very similar. I believe the small International tractor line was made by Mitsubishi. My 234 has a 3 cylinder diesel, so engines are different. Neat little tractor, they have their purposes but just don’t overload them.. I always wanted it to do what my larger tractors will do.
That little tractor is a gem! Purrs like a kitten once you got it going and looks like there’s still tons of good life left in it

The older Kubota's are the same way. Sometimes even when its warm out they need glow plugs to start.

If you've had a cox models you know diesels
❤
Heck yeah she finally started up she definitely likes Them glow plugs 10 count for the win Matt 36:51 @Diesel Creek
And after finally making it to 37:04 I love your expressions of joy when things start. I feel it with you because I too have been defeated so many times trying to start things.
This looks like it could be the most handy piece of equipment for the future farm. I can't wait to see it cleaned up and the implements in action.
I was going to say it was good to see you driving the blue 6.0 again but I had a feeling it was old footage confirmed by the "20 months later". I continue to hope for a walkaround of your sweet new red Super Duty.
I e been wondering did he buy a new truck.
Same I've been asking about the new truck on every video lol
Yeah
Yep I think we've all noticed 😂
Notice at the end when he was test driving, old blue was by the new shop. IIRC, he let slip it had a turbo failure when he was headed to Ohio
400 bucks not bad for the small tractor the 4 attachments the 4x8 trailer and the cherry oicker Nice Deal Matt 5:00 @Diesel Creek
I swear you can start anything. Im always amazed to see you get something that hasn't seen life in years running again with so little repairs needed.
I’m jumping on this wagon, Matt’s “let’s throw this thing back together and see what happens” is like the diesel creek version of “hold my beer”. lol
I would’ve had the whole thing in the parts soaker for a week and would still only have a 10% chance to get it running.
Great job Matt
Your intuition is on point.
Diesel's are so much better in that way. They can sit for YEARS and with just a little TLC, they just roar back to life.
I genuinely feel that you're turning into my favorite youtuber, because the wholesomeness you have and the genuine care you put in for all of your equipment and the people you care for in life
Diesel creek or DIRT PERFECT both great

Man there's nothing more I love than watching equipment being saved from the scrap heap and getting it running again
Man i love old garden tractors. This is a heck of a find ! A shame there isn't still stuff like this on the market today, so useful around the house !
The closest things are like the deere 1 series or kubota bx1880s
Yep… The current Deere and Kubota subcompact diesels are the modern equivalent. The issue is they’re way more “refined” and therefore expensive compared to what these Mitsubishis used to sell for (inflation adjusted).
@@neonnoodle1169 TYM makes some very affordable light duty tractors.
This is not a "garden" tractor. It's a tractor period. This were made for small farms nothing "garden" about it. Americans can't get this right. LOL 😂 😂
I agree. If it is diesel, has a PTO and three point hitch it is a real compact tractor.
External combustion engines add a lot of excitement and make good video content but don't do much for the tractor 😃
If it was gasoline instead of diesel I'd be willing to bet that's exactly what he would've had
Beautiful farm This Lady Has That house is stunning what a view as well Matt 3:00 @Diesel Creek
A lot of pride getting that thing from scrap to running! Awesome job!
What a pretty gem! Definitely a keeper! She is deserving a nice new paint job!
That is EXACTLY what they have to do all the time when I’m there lol
I've been watching resto and junkyard revival videos for years: this is an absolute masterclass. You touched on every newb question and solution for the most part. And what a story just getting it run was. The whole diagnosis, it was like a well written novel to be honest. This is why I love machines, and secondly, why I love your channel. Well done, brother.
Brings Back Memories ❤️ used to sell those back in mid-late 80’s. They were great tractors but HELL to get parts for.
I love seeing these old things being revived. Great work.
Fun video , Mat , looking forward to seeing the attachments run as well. Looks like another great tool . Nice.
Matt, you are a Diesel Engine GURU. YOUR DEISEL SKILLS AMAZE ME.
Better be a REALLY pretty hot and shiny pink with a matching seat cover....lol
I haven't cheered this hard for an engine start since Mustie1 got that Daihatsu mini-truck to go. Well done, Matt!
Mee too !!!
Matt, you have always made stunning videos, your enthusiam when it goes right is halarious, but your talent for restoring these old machines is top notch. ATB to you & Eva have a great Holiday season.

This is one of the older ones I missed, so I decided to watch it this evening. :)
Glad you got it running. Love seeing an old horse come alive after sleeping for so long.
EDIT.... I made my comment about the remote starter before watching the rest after you got it running. Glad someone thought to send you one.
It looks like you have a gem there. It looks like that tractor took you back in time to about 12 years old! Good job.
What a great little tractor. I could use something like this in NS with a small snow blower. Brian
Love it!
Would also love to see some content getting those attachments to work, and then using them!
"A little love" 🤣 Well said!
Yeah fender 's and little bending the three point Control or an spring suspension for the seat would sell IT better to the Mrs. A comfy little ride
*Noticed the PTO pulley bent. Is that thing spinning 24/7 or is there a disconnect for it?*
i appreciate your civil language. When people use the f-bomb two times a sentence it is refreshing to listen to a you-tuber that knows civility and does not use the f-bomb. Keep on keeping on. Thank you!
Fuckin eh bud!

That’s an awesome little tractor, great video as always! Thank you for the hours of entertainment your channel provides.
I love to see old machinery coming back to life again🤟🤗
Small tractors like this are so cool 😎 hopefully you get more loaders on your channel in the future too. Also shout out to you for working in the snow/rain for us
I know you will have figured it out by the time you see this but those little 2,3,and 4 cylinder's diesels need glow plugs to start below 40, have 8 of those type tractor currently, I buy and sell them as a side biz
Matt's got my kind of humor: pranking his wife with a random tractor 🤣🤣 Great video as always 👍
Shhhh!
@@essexfarmer9610 she don’t watch these he’s said that
Another great video Matt. You have the patience of a saint to get all these old machines running. Thoroughly enjoy watching you at work.
Lee
Wait every Saturday for you videos Matt. Awesome little tractor. Thanks for sharing!
This MITSUBISHI GT would make a great "Winter Project"!
That front (electrically actuated) PTO Pully has seen better days...
@@oldtugs yea these Asian diesels will not start without glow plugs operational.
My family used to have one of these growing up, bulletproof little tractors. Used and abused since before I was alive yet it always managed to shake itself awake. You don’t see these a lot anymore it seems.
Nice asset! But quite a struggle.🤗
I can't stop wondering what would have happened if you used the glow-plugs right from the start...🙃
@14:38 Did you see that mouse fleeing to hide between the front right wheel and the container? 😃
@53:51 It will surely not be the same, but a cushioned chair would do a lot.
