    I’ve just discovered your channel. I’m loving watching your videos. I’m a dressmaker/teacher by trade but have done many things in life. I’ve done videography, editing and I fly a drone. I have a cow/calf farm (256 acres) in Australia. I’m a keen woodworker, renovator and garden maker. You are doing a great job. Please watch Charles Dowding no dig gardening. Rather than remove the soil improve it. You have many resources for making compost in the forest and you can improve the removed soil/grass sods. You need to get organic matter into the soil to get the microbes and earthworms working for you. I live alone too but with three cats, a dog, two goats but I’m nearly 62! Keep up sharing your life with us ❤

    Rosie! As a Swede growing up in the 90’s, I never thought I’d see the day when I would actually find a pine kitchen beautiful. All along as you’ve talked about using pine in your kitchen I’ve been worried that it wouldn’t look nice in the end, but heck, I am 100% converted. It looks so good and you should be so proud of yourself, you’ve really come a long way since you first bought the house. I can’t wait to see more of what you do with the house, and it was fun seeing your sketches of your floor plan as I’ve had a hard time understanding how the house is laid out.

    • @wildrosie
      @wildrosie  Год назад +11

      Haha, as someone growing up in the 90s myself I'm also very sceptical about pine... but it's the one thing that's readily available here and surprisingly decent-looking! Although we might nave to revisit this in 5 years when it's gone all 70s style yellow and orange :D

      When it starts getting yellow, paint it in a colour you love. I know you said you don't want to cover the wood surface, but that's what pine is made for :). We painted our rustic entrance in dark blue with a white ceiling and it looks absolutely fabulous. @@wildrosie

    Oh my goodness Rosie. Beautiful work on the kitchen. You are very talented! The kitchen truly is the heart and center of home. I just love the extended window sill and shelf for your plants. I would imagine that many of your garden plants will begin their life on that shelf? My grow system has evolved over the years. Now they germinate on a heat mat and are moved to a small shelving unit where lights are attached. When they've outgrown the 2-1/2" pots I transplant into larger containers and they move in to a mini greenhouse. To harden off I open the plastic cover through the day and cover back up as we lose warmth of the sun. It's working well for us.
    That pie made me hungry for a German apple pancake! I have to eat low carb because I'm diabetic but I can still make some delicious meals with the nut flours.

    The plywood might need some more reinforcements on the back to keep them from getting even more wonky. Wood can warp over time anyways as it dries or if it isn't treated to protect it from humidity. (That's why you see those Z-shaped reinforcements on old plank doors or barn doors for example.) But plywood is especially wonky. :P

    The kitchen is beautiful. This experience will serve you in hard skills and the soft internal build of confidence and character. You can't read about those skills; they only come from experience one chooses. Your kitchen build will change over time as you learn more about materials. Great job, Rosie!

    This kitchen is so serene and efficient and beautiful. Excellent job! I worry about you going into winter and your food situation. My close friend lives isolated in the Alaskan bush and she always has 25 pound bags of oat groats, soybeans, cornmeal, navy beans, flour, etc. She can make soy milk, tortillas, bread all sorts of tasty things and doesn't worry about snow or getting into town. It's money upfront but cheaper when you buy bulk. I know in a few years your garden will be flourishing and you will have an overflowing pantry and root cellar. And chickens? I'm convinced that you can do anything! Take care.

    Your kitchen is amazing!! It has been such a pleasure to watch you create a home at your Swedish cabin. Your 'homemade' design and builds are at a genius level in my opinion. It has been great to see your skills evolve since you bought the cabin. You give inspiration for the rest of us!
    I look forward to each of your new videos and your creative solutions.
    All the best wishes to you and your beautiful little home!
