The amount of relief I felt when you changed the direction of the fridge-freezer doors lol, it was bugging me so much 😂. My gosh you did a smashing job!
I just wanyed to let you know any color on the NCS scale can be mixed for you at any professional paint store in Sweden. You're parents don't need to bring paint from the Netherlands just bc you found a swatch you like there. In fact, some paint companies can match the color of anything small you have, like a piece of fabric perfectly using a computer color analyzer that blasts it with uv light and analyzes the exact shade producing the reviepue for the exact shade (but those are usually not in retail stores, but at the grossers that work with contractors, so you'd have to call them and find out where to go).
It will save you (and your parents) alot of hassles. It also opens up to using anything as inspiration for a specofic colour, found objects, fabric swatches, a yarn from a rug, or something found in nature.

I'm 67 have no drivers licence and no car my whole life. I do everything by bike and nowadays with an e-bike. You won't believe the things that I transported with my bike, it is fun.
I greatly admire your ability to transform this old cabin into such a cozy home. The kitchen turned out spectacular.

You are doing a wonderful job! I too am a single woman, but 61 and am refurbishing an old home. I never built cabinets before but did it on an unlevel floor. I make lots of little mistakes and things aren't perfect. I have learned to let it all go and now look at those imperfections as history marks. Every mark like the scratched floor is telling YOUR story and what a beautiful story it is. Thank you for sharing.🙏
I am doing a renovation too, and there are all kinds of setback and “mistakes” - done by the construction guys - and I have to let myself go be ok, otherwise the project wouldn’t move forward and I’d just drive myself crazy. Wabi sabi makes it part of the house.

I really like that new 'custom mixed' shade of soft green! It brightens up the space, without overpowering it. 🥰 You are doing such a fantastic job!! I'm over 70 years old, and have a small farm in Missouri, USA, and have to custom do (and redo) so many things, but it's satisfying doing it myself, and learning so much as I go. I am proud of you for your grabbing each project head on, and working your way thru it, regardless! Basically, youre getting a PhD at Life University!! Great work!!! 🥰🤗🙏
Just a thought: if you drill a hole for the electrical plug in the side wall of the shelf, you can make it less visually noticeable. You can even buy the plugs individually so that you can first push the cable through a very small opening and then screw on the plug. I did that and connecting the plug really wasn't difficult
I was thinking about that, but I may want to relocate the whole lot of random plugs at some point, and don't want to have to deal with patching up lots of holes. So I'm keeping them where they are for now...!
You are becoming an expert ! With everything you have already done successfully I bet you'll be able to renovate almost everything now ! And you are such a perfectionist, no wonder everything looks so beautiful ... even your list is the cleanest one, handwritten, that I have ever seen, honestly. This is a compliment, I am in awe 👏👏👏

And yea, finishing projects is always the hardest part. It’s so easy to get past a difficult section and then just get the “Finally I’m practically done” and just lose all the motivation to do the polishing as it’s “already done”/“perfectly functional”
So true. Even my 'done' is still not really done!! Will I ever be done?
There’s no such thing as “done” as there’ll always be more to do. The more important thing is when you stop working on it and whether you are, at that point, happy with how it’s turned out. And by that measure I am sure it’ll be done :)
There’s very few people I’d trust to undertake a project like this but, and I know I’m a broken record, you never cease to amaze me with what you’ve achieved thus far

For the dents in your floor (if the wood is not actually cut) try using a damp cloth layered beneath something metal (a metal bottle cap will work if the area is small) and apply gentle heat from a laundry iron resting on top. With patience and perseverance, the warm moisture will swell (lift) the dent if it's not too severe.

It's great to get those tasks that have been bothering you for a long time under control. Your home is looking so lovely. Having done a total home reno project quite similar to yours, I know first hand how challenging it can be. You should be incredibly proud of yourself.
You really should run the electrical wires inside the walls.
Congratulations Rosie for the achievement! I like you perseverance and craftmanship. In old house you often can't use standard furniture and with all your visions I don't know if you would even want to. But your creative solutions are really delightful to watch.

I love watching you redo your home. I have been pulling wallpaper and mudding the walls underneath for repair. 59 yrs old, but you inspire me. ✨️
I hate caulking, but here are a couple of tips. Cut the end of the caulking spout on an angle to help point control the flow and start with a smaller bead. You can always make it bigger. To control the spread, you can tape off each side, like you do when painting and want a clean edge. When the caulk has set a bit, peal it off. Like when you paint, don’t leave the tape on too long or the caulk will tear with the tape removal. You can use your wet finger to smooth the caulking or use the corner of an old plastic credit card or hotel room key card or whatever, that makes a nice consistent curve and saves your fingers. Of course, make sure it’s paintable caulking, if you are painting it after. If not satisfied with your efforts, peal it off and try again. It is an art. Best of luck! You are doing great.
I was going to say the same thing! I don’t have the skill to caulk without tapping both sides first. I tape, caulk, run a wet finger, peel the tape. Comes out looking professionally done every time!

This is all so satisfying, decisions made, then changed, checking off projects finished, working in not so fun(cold)environments, but girl, you are accomplishing it all by yourself...our girl brains are different then man brains, but as long as it works for you and is functional, who cares...you are that little bird finishing up her nest and guess what, you will change it again and again...I'm 73 and know of that which I speak...I've been plodding along alone nearly all my life and still find much happiness in my little nests...can't wait to see that color when it dries...now I'm off to repair my garage door, then trim winter from my gardens...life is GRAND...!

I’m 71 and so impressed with her raw talent. She is good with her hand and has the mind of a very creative engineer with the talent of an artist. Wow!
An fyi, in case you don't know this. .
If refrigerators are the same in Sweden as in the states, it will need to be rolled out, probably at least anually to vacuum the accumulated lint and dust on the coils. Dusty coils mean the refridge uses more electricity and the its motor needs to work harder causing it to wear out sooner.
So, its good that you now have it on rollers❣️

Your detail to the smallest thing… ventilation design is wonderful! Everything can be disassembled when you need to backup… so better than the unforgiving glue.
For caulking, you can put removable tape on the sides of the line you want to caulk and then have a straight line when you remove the tape. It'll help your process :)

Caulking "is" a bit of an art. Keep a wet cloth with you. Use your wet finger to run along the area you put caulk down. Makes it a lot neater looking. Or, just use the wet rag to do it. You are such an inspiration. I look forward to your videos.
I used a wet rag which wasn't too bad in the end!

Not gonna lie, finishing touches are my favorite part of any renovation. It looks so good! Can't wait to see the new colour on the unit. I really liked that green swatch you tried out at 26:34. Such a "fresh" shade of green. It would give some nice contrast next to the dark one.
I share your pain in regards to your fridge. I have a double door, massive one and since I live alone, decided I will push it the the nook by myself when I was moving in. And in the middle of it I honestly thought I will die crushed to death. And to make things worse I pushed it too far and now I can't open the doors fully. But I'm just way too traumatised to ever touch it again 😬
Ask for help. I'm sure a friend will be willing to help you. It's great to be able to accomplish something difficult alone but it's also beautiful to share the difficulties.

My son in law told me to file small gaps in with chalk. The house I purchased several years ago. There are small gaps in the edgeswhere crown molding didn't meet ceiling. I filled them in, painted over the space and presto changeo! You can't see them. You're doing great!

Honestly, I remember when you started this. I was so worried you were going to end up freezing to death there trying to get this done. I wanted you to succeed, but I had my concerns and even some doubts (mostly worry!). Slowly, you've done it. I'm so very happy for you and rather impressed by your accomplishments thus far. I know we haven't seen everything, and you've edited a lot, but it's still impressive that you've stuck with it for so long.
I hope you will do a video where you cover what you learned and what you WISH you had known before starting the kitchen. For example, knowing what you know now, what would you have started first, or ordered first, or had the money to buy first, so it would've made your process easier.
I heard a real estate developer, recently (within the last month), remark that reversing refrigerator doors is one of the most frustrating things he has to do in developing AN ENTIRE COMMUNITY, from picking the land, to installing the streets, sewers, and all the infrastructure...to building the entire homes...it was REVERSING THE REFRIGERATOR DOORS that he stated was the most frustrating (for him). So, know that you are not alone in how traumatizing that seems to be. Now I understand why so many refrigerators have door with handles in the center and the open outward.

Tip: Avoid MDF for doors & countertops. Humidity change and force can warp it (e.g wet messes, repeated pulls, drying wood stoves). Slabs are better because they’re stiffer. MDF can require replacement very soon. It’s better for unseen, nailed-down back panels or cabinet sides.
Yeah, I agree with Rosie Garcia. A portable heater for the kitchen and the other room would be great. Will make life a little better until your chimney is fixed .

The last bits are always the hardest for me. I made a couple of built in cupboards and three years on the doors aren't installed yet. Will get there eventually.

14:30 Fridges actually heat your room. They’re basically heat pumps. It’s therefore harder for them to work in warm spaces. Plus restricting airflow from it (which is warmer) could make your kitchen even colder…

Trick to caulking is to use your finger rather then a cloth. Then just wipe the excess off your finger and go again :)

With your floor, you can bring out the dents, a hot iron and a damp towel. Put the damp towel over the dent and iron, the hot steam will help pull the dents out. Thankfully chaulking is paintable, I hate the stuff too.
Rosie, can I just say how much I and all your fans admire your strength and resilience. Your work dosen t have to be perfect. Each imperfection tells your story, how far you have come. As I was watching you put your handles on I thought the lit t me triangles you were using to hold the front knobs would make wonderful handles if they were larger. Costing nothing as they would b e made of cut offs, maybe used in a different room. You are an amazing young lady who deserves all the happiness in t he world.
I really think the kitchen ceiling light needs to be something really special like a miniature wrought iron chandalier to top of all your hard work..a bit of whimsy as celebration for completing your project. A touch of grandness! Ouch on the fridge doors btw!!

Lists are so! great! Just to have one is motivational. But then to have the tasks marked off is… like happy effervescent bursts of success. I like to mark mine off in red so they give me red energy bursts. Of happy effervescent success. Oh gees! Major LOL!!! I’ve never quite put that into words before but, yah! …That works!
Scratches in the wooden floor? You can take a wet piece of linen or cotton and put it down on the scratch. Then press a hot iron for a short moment on the wet cloth. With a little bit of luck you can bring the water into the scratch so that the wood expands and fills the scratch again. Perhaps you have to try it several times. It doesn’t disappear complete, but it will be better than before.
