He managed to put all things he found in a perfect way. I really love his house, the kitchen is small but designed perfectly. You can imagine how relaxing to cook in that kitchen with view to water. This house is perfect.
Thanks a lot! But it wasn't just me. My girlfriend Fadime did many things like choosing the colours and furniture, and pushing me to come up with crazy solutions ;)
My favorite feature is the super high glassed window/door. The fact that it is overlooking the water makes everything much nicer too. I can’t stop thinking about how cool it might be to watch a rainy day go by from their living room.
Imagine, actaully being able to lie in your bed when a storm is going on. Watching the water listning to the rain.. Such a shame with the "room divider" in their bedroom. IMO
This is hands-down my favorite Never Too Small video. The work done in this apartment is beautiful, creative, and so clever with its use of space, and of course the cat is just adorable.
BRILLIANT work! The TV: floating, moveable, art on the back. Laundry drying. Multiple levels. Bed cubby. Spice shelf. Unlike other small spaces (that I also love), this one can really host a number of people without being cramped. The deck is a dream. The cat spaces are fantastic, even if the kitty didn't catch on to where it's supposed to scratch. 🙂
I love that this project is full of solutions, but never compromises. One of the best ones I've seen, so full of personality while still being super practical and liveable.
I have an artist friend who used to live in a loft like that in NYC but the split-level entry led to the bedroom down stairs rather than up. She didn't mind because basically the living/dinin/kitchen area was her studio as well and the light from the huge windows were fantastic.
I find I tend to prefer the apartments that are the architects own home - I think as he says it really helps to live in a place to help you design it, it lets the space speak to you and allows you to build something totally individual and tailor-made. I love the switch on the pulley system and the sliding tv, and those massive floor to ceiling windows looking out onto the water are amazing!
The clothes drying rack is great. I hate when small spaces are unrealistic. You don't only need space for clean clothes, but when they're dirty and drying out.
Not only is this an incredibly well executed project, the cinematography of this video is stunning. All the close up shots, how the cameraman captured the natural living activities in such a “fly on the wall” style… I am mesmerised by this video. Huge “well done” to the whole NTS team.
I 1st discovered this development in an architectural book about 20yrs ago and fell in love with how interesting the neighbourhood is due to allowing each owner to come up with their own design. In 2016 I visited Amsterdam, rented a bike and was lucky enough to accidentally arrive at these homes whilst exploring. Thank you for featuring this as I aim to build a small property with a similar layout.
This apartment has become automatically one of my favourites on this channel, if not the favourite. It feels like a peaceful retreat in the middle of a city.

Absolutely gorgeous. A total DIY maker at heart but with a surprisingly clean execution on so many of his concepts. I love this un-rigid, experimental way of creating the space around you. Breaks the mold of so many prescribed/rigid aesthetics.
This house is one of the best so far. Really pretty , the plants look incredible. The entire place is really aesthetic all the while keeping all functionality intact. no murphy beds, no setting up a dining table to eat. Exceptionally well thought out space.. Plus the floating deck is * Chef's kiss
This is a classic example of how helpful NTS is to those of us already living in small spaces. Like others here, I love the drying closet -- so attractive, even when in use, and it looks relatively simple to construct. I also find the mirror placement helpful... How to capture light without turning the place into a narcissist nightmare, lol. Being a short person, ceiling height spice shelves aren't going to be my choice, but personal choice is what makes design delightful.
Perhaps the same spice rack concept but a short person solution might be to run the shelf the length just under the counter top or under a run of cabinets.
What a wonderful home. Full of character. The ingenious sliding rail TV, the giant industrial switcher for the bedroom light, the floating deck besides the canal, the spice rack and the adorable passage for the cat. Bravo to the owner for not being afraid to challenge casual minimalist thinking and embrace personality. This one a keeper for me ❤ Btw the cat is also living its best life in that home haha
This has got to be one of the best videos on this channel. Finally, a house that has character and is actually habitable. Love the house so much that I needed to leave a comment!
My Cat and I are ready to move back to the Netherlands so long as we can live in this apartment. Well considered, quirky, comfortable, fabulous view. Love it.
I absolutely love this appartment. So many good ideas : the sliding TV , the split level entrance, the floating terrasse, the drying closet + that full height window overlooking the water... this appartment feels so spacious and calm, I sure would love to live here. One of the best project I saw on this channel !
This was so well done. It maintains the simplicity of a small home with the all the treasured features of a full size home. The cat is beautiful :). I admire Koen's bravery in exploring abandoned warehouses! He said something important: he likes to make things and try out new things and this process is probably why we love his home. It was cultivated over time.
It is funny that he found a lot of things from abandoned factories in different cities, he must have a hobby, exploring those factories when he visits the city :) I love the all that spices rack, good idea. By the way, with my cat , no way I can have that many plants in the house :) This is the first cat I see that leaves the plants alone by the way, lucky :)
Love love love the TV setup. Perfect solution to the problem of being too far away for enjoyably viewing a small TV but not wanting to use up too much wall space on a larger screen.
Drying racks are very common all over Europe, but most people (including me) have ugly foldable ones and they qre always an eyesore. And it is very difficult to find inspiration for a nocer looking solution if you don't have a seperate room where you can just hide the washer and the drying rack. I am actually really excited, I think this is the first apartment on here that shows anthing like that :)
All the houses featured are incredibly aesthetically pleasing, but this one, it's actually very practical, and a place someone would live very comfortably. Would move in an instant.
This has to be one of the most truly functional spaces I've seen on this channel, you can truly tell that they actually LIVE here! It's absolutely beautiful, easily my favourite space on this channel so far. Even aside from the lovely and clever design details, I'm so jealous of their plants!
Absolutely love the natural vibe of this DIY waterfront loft in Amsterdam! The abundance of plants adds such a refreshing touch, and the clever use of space makes the 45sqm area feel like a cozy oasis. It's inspiring to see how creativity can transform a small space into a lush and inviting retreat
When the collector happens to be the builder! So creative and warm, feels like a physical memory lane. Amsterdam canals are the coziest! By far one of the best creations on NTS.
Beautiful place! I love how they incorporated random things he's found from places like abandoned factories. There's something humorous about it, which is great
What I like the most about Amsterdam is that it has beautiful canalds.. they really add a whole new dynamic to the overall cityscape and allows for so much variations in terms of architecture.
Yep, this goes to the top of my list for favorite homes. So much personality, so much practicality, so much coziness and generally so much awesomeness 👌 The sculpture on the back of the telly reminds me of Han Solo in Carbonite and the thought that went into making the cat happy as well is just 🥰.
