I’ll be painting for the first time later this summer, so these step-by-step videos with explanations of why you’re doing what you’re doing and not something else are super helpful! 🤜⚡️🤛
I've been professionally doing body work for 15+ yrs and own my own shop now.... I've never seen or heard of never that simple (also obvious) trick to fill pinholes lol. Awesome tip. Always learning new things is critical in this business.
Brian, your videos are the absolute best! From beginner to professional your channel is a 1-stop shop for all your body and paint needs and how to .. Thanks again Brian!
These videos are insanely helpful. I'm a DYI guy, and have no one to teach me. Keep up the awesome content. It's SO valuable for my projects. Thank you.
Appreciate what you do. Restoring a 1972 FJ40. Tub off, had all body pieces media blasted. Now fixing holes and rust repair. Using your videos to walk me through the entire process. 1st time doing this and following your lead. You are a good teacher. Looking forward to getting to the actual painting. Keep up the great work!!!!
Literally binge watching ever video you made because I suddenly developed an interest in the body work side of the industry I’m a mechanic and am realizing how many people ask me if I do body work I’m glade u added that part where you should be adding 1 part reducer because I’m also in south Florida and it’s 85-95 degrees 8 months out of the year
thank you for clearing up the mixing ratio. Thank you for the content for the average hobbyist. I would love to see videos covering using the products that can be purchased from O'Reilly Auto Parts Nason paint products.
Take that phrase lightly, as painting isnt cheap. The key to all paintwork is proper prep throughout. The top layer is only as durable as the layers and prep below it.
THIS HELPS A LOT. i have been seeing different videos with conflicting messages. some say to wait 30 minutes until the primer flashes off than paint over it, if you let it dry for days than the paint will peel off like an old dodge truck. in this vid we are waiting and sanding.
@Brian could you do a video or comment on painting high-temp surfaces, specifically brake calipers? How important is high-temp paint? What's the difference? Roll-on vs spray on, etc
i just bought the same exact brand and size last week. so happy you made a vid on this and went in depth like with all your vids. Thanks for the amazing content, tips and tricks Sir!
Really appreciate all your hard work and videos and instructions. I’ve been in the Autobody business for over 30 years. How do you like your new air compressor, I’ve worked with several types of air compressors in the past, need a new one soon. Is it quiet and does it keep up with tools well? How about bigger grinders?

Hello Brian. You must be in the same neighborhood as me. Noticed how deep your backyard goes to the lake. Mine too. I'm in the Chapel Trails Developement in western Pembroke Pines.
Another great informational video Brian. One question. I didn’t see you filter the mixture prior to spraying. Is it not necessary or does that 3M system filter it as well?
My girl has a 1999 MX5 Miata. Green flake metallic.. few dings no damage. have you ever painted one of these ? Watching lots of your tips great work thx..
Spraying primer in the sun is brutal man! We can’t really do that here in the mountains, So I have no idea how you can in the sunny state! Stuff is usually drying before it hits the panel, and feels rougher than 36 grit sandpaper… 😜😂 Good stuff as always Sir!
Hey Brian, i was clear coating my paint job on the roof of my car and ran out of clear before i could properly finish. I want to add more clear when i get more of it but will i need to sand the current clear before adding more a day after the initial spray of clear?
Since a moth went by , and we dont know what you did, Ill say if it were only a day, you can respray on top since it will chemically adhere to the other clear that "dried".Theres a certain time window This would be explained to just how much time has past for the next coat on the tech data sheets of the maker of the clear. If a week or so passed, you would have to scuff the whole area again so the new clear will adhere to the older clear mechanically. ( sand scratch)
Brian, thank you for all you do… sharing your knowledge is so very valuable to us, your audience! I have a particular question regarding primer, color coat and clear coating… let me explain. I have a 1990 Corvette convertible in very decent condition, I’m pretty sure it’s not original paint. The paint is nice, 8-9 of 10, but there are small road chips and several small scratches. I lightly sanded out the chip and scratch spots then used red spot putty to flat and smooth. I’m intending to airbrush on a thinned out primer, then very lightly sand if needed, then color coat (white) , then clear…. Believe me, I know it’s NOT the best nor correct way, but I think it will do. Could you please help with a video or reply with your out of the box help? Best! JD
That’s a tough one because that red putty will shrink since its a 1k preduct. Glazing putty would be much better for the chips then some primer over that
Im a street artist with 30 years painting with aerosol and have pretty good can control. Ive painted a few cars with aerosol and am ready to paint my first car with a paint gun. These videos are very helpful. ! !! ! I unfortunately dont have a garage and will be painting in my drive way with a tent. Im in Cali and the summers are hot here. Any recommendations for temp?
You have to make sure the metal you are spraying isnt too hot for one thing. Paint wont flow out nice if it basically dries instantly from to much heat. Look into the tech, data sheets of the products you use. You can find those online and on some of the products for surface temps.
Can you do a review on that Eastwood QSt 30/60? How do you like it? You think its enough to sand/paint a whole car at one shot? In the market to upgrade for one of those eastwood bc of the quietness if not a 60 gallon compressor from Ingersoll.
im sure you've talked about it before. but im interested in what basic hardware is needed. type of compressor, what the spec for the compressor should be etc. for a garage diy and not getting ruined. pls give me info or links to the videos
First and foremost, that's one hell of a nice garage. Mine is noway as nice, but I do porting(SuperFlow machine), boring, valve grinding and three employees(my pups), which are pretty sloppy at times. Great video - thanks again! What vehicle was that for? Vette or 3000GT?
I'm still confused on when your should be "sealing" vs "priming" and if any differences with ABS plastics. (I was just gifted a 3M PPS starter kit as my first spray gun, I'm excited to attempt my first project!)
Hi Brian great video as always. Was wondering when you sanded the fender down to the bare substrate wasn’t sure but before you sprayed your primer should you used a adhesion per motor?
so i am restoring 98 integra gsr trailing arms they have light surface rust .... my plan is to sand bast the entire arm then wash it clean it up a few times then epoxy primer it 2 coats but ill let it dry for 24 hours between coats .... then i will just apply 2 top coats after that ? what do you think ?
This was excellent. I have some fixing existing bad paint, BC CC flaking, on two black vehicles and am debating what paint to use and was shocked by the costs now. I aman old man but I did paint a lot of cars, trucks, vans in the 80s with Acr Laq and a few with Acr Enamel but my experience with teh newer stuff is not desirable. I have a truck hood and roof and a car hood and spoiler to redo and then in a year or so possibly a 68 SS 396 Camaro but I have almost all panels and floor to weld in new ones. Can I contact you with a real Email and ask questions and even ones with pics later on? Thanks. I hate to do it all on here. I am doing that a bit now with a great guy doing his own panels and etc and paint. Your attention to detail is great for someone like me.
Hey Brian, Mike here from southwest Idaho. Thank you for providing us with these great how to paint videos. My project is a '49 Chevy truck, as I sand and do metal work, I end up exposing bare metal. My question is this, do I need to spot prime with epoxy or an etching material or can I go directly to the 2K urethane primer. Thanks again.
I have a fiberglass bumper and front fenders that I am looking to paint soon. I did the bodywork filled some pinholes and sanded it all down from 120 to 320. Everything is looking mint and I’m not looking to do any more bodywork or sanding before spraying base and clear. Do you think I should use urethane or epoxy primer??
Hello, I have a super tiny scrape on the bottom of my door from opening it onto a piece of concrete sidewalk. I think the paint was scratched off. Question is can I use a drop of regular spray paint primer before using the color match paint for my car. Is it not advisable to wax the car after it’s painted and not before … as I read? Thanks 🙏
Any tips to dealing with humidity? I’ve always known that high humidity is no bueno with paint. It’s been really hot in FL and humidity has been through the roof. Keep em coming.
Hey Brain i'm wanting to Paint a 68 Chevelle the last paint job the guy did a bad job you can see sanding marks all over but the paint layed out nice its a red and i will redo it red how do i match this color with out knowing what it is Thanks enjoy watching your videos
1st want to say your channel & advise has helped immensely as I've learned to paint last couple years. Thank you. However, Im hoping to get some advise on painting my trucks rocker panels. I live in Midwest so salt, snow, humidity, heat, ect are not nice to my work truck. I am getting my rockers sanded down and prep'd to prime and spray with bed liner coating. Would epoxy primer be a better option vs urethane in providing more protection under the bed liner coat against rock chips, salt, ect?
Very helpful video with one HUGE mistake. When u wipe a panel, I was taught to go in one direction only else u leave dirt behind. Wipe from one end to the other and turn the rag so any captured dirt remains in the rag. Also, it makes no sense to paint in warm sunlight.
Hi. I'm doing a repaint on a basecoat/clearcoat truck. There are a couple of small repairs that required bondo...about 2 inches across. Should I prime the entire vehicle or just the repairs? Also, which primer would you recommend? First-time painter and your videos are incredibly helpful. Thanks!
Great videos! Thank you. I have a question... Doesn't 4:1 mean 4 parts one product and 1 part another? If you fill to "5" then add the activator to the next level... Wouldn't that be 5:1?
@PaintSociety yes there is a reason I don't have a compressor so I'm undecided either a compressor or that turbine sprayer that is why I wanted to see if that turbine can do the job
Nice video. I have my car covered with epoxy right now and will be spraying urethane next. I have a little body filler to go on before that though. Should I hit where I have put on body filler with epoxy again or can I just lay on the urethane? Also - what grit paper should I use on the epoxy before I spray the urethane? It will be a few weeks before I can spray the urethane so I know I need to rough up the epoxy a bit for good adhesion.
Brian what primer would you recommend going over a 2k epoxy primer? I’m restoring a 1970 cutlass and I’m bringing everything to bare metal, cleaning and epoxy priming. Or should I do my filler work over it and then use the next primer (urethane or polyester)
Hello Brian, you said don't overthink, ok. But I notice here after cleaning your 3M gun, you did not connect the gun to your air, and blow out some air to clean all your hole.
Brian , I sprayed a gal of the Eastwood 2k on my pick up truck project and I bought a Euro pro gun (1.9) tip just for this product and I had problems I called East wood and they recommended thinning 10% with reducer just like you said my thought was to spay heavy and block sand inspect touch up and repeat 3times and I may get this truck real flat??? I feel like when I reduce I loses the Hight build effect , i want to fill those many little imperfection then respray and repeat I am wondering if I should buy a spray gun with a 2.0 tip or better any thoughts on that ?????
Try with the 2.0 first in can. Otherwise 10% won’t lose too much of the build. Think about it like this, if it’s laying rough without the 10% reducer, you’ll end up sanding more off to get it flat then you would if it was sprayed smoother with the 10% added
What's up Brian, learning a lot from you chief, Listen my first question, I've been working with residential paint so i just wonder to use that urethane primer over a ceilings and walls on my high gloss finish paint using holland lac from fine paints of europe so I don't think I gonna get any reaction from paint what do you think it's totally compatible in your opinion so please lmk what you think about all this and thanks a lot for your tutorious videos, peace out.
Also I need to know if I will be able to spray just like you using 1.8 típ and because I do residential spray my mobile compressor with 30 gal. Max. Capacity which my cfm reaching out only 7.3 so in order to achieve a good finish steady than using 13 cfm with 60 gal. compressor, thanks again for your support and keep up the good work.
@@PaintSociety checked. I have about the same system but still get some water coming out in the area where hose connects with the gun. This happens when spraying in warmer days. Any thoughts?
i sprayed epoxy primer, and it came out smooth but with a little fine texture. It must be sanded smooth, otherwise the texture will magnify in the top coats and clear will be orange peel AF, and metallics won't lay properly in a finely textured epoxy.
I’ll be painting for the first time later this summer, so these step-by-step videos with explanations of why you’re doing what you’re doing and not something else are super helpful! 🤜⚡️🤛

Hello, what model UV light should I get? One that is strong enough to cure the putty. Keep the videos coming
Great video Brian - what 2k primer would you recommend for spraying with a LVLP gun rather than a HVLP spray gun? Keep up the awesome work!
Another great informational video Brian. One question. I didn’t see you filter the mixture prior to spraying. Is it not necessary or does that 3M system filter it as well?
The 3m pps lid has a filter on it.

Exactly. The temp of whatever you are painting shouldnt be too hot also . Thats why people need to read the tech sheets from the manuf. !

Are you using your 30/60 Eastwood compressor with that 3M spray gun? What’s the cfm spec for this gun?
Hi. I'm doing a repaint on a basecoat/clearcoat truck. There are a couple of small repairs that required bondo...about 2 inches across. Should I prime the entire vehicle or just the repairs? Also, which primer would you recommend? First-time painter and your videos are incredibly helpful. Thanks!
Can I use water based acrylic paint over top of urethane primer?
I noticed some time you mentioned sealer is that a optional step ?
Great videos! Thank you.
I have a question... Doesn't 4:1 mean 4 parts one product and 1 part another? If you fill to "5" then add the activator to the next level... Wouldn't that be 5:1?
No, fill to 4, then add 1... 4:1
Do I need to base coat over epoxy primer or can I just got direct to clear if I like the color of the sealer?
Hi I haven't seen you painting a full car with a turbine sprayer you give good info
There is a reason for that😂
@PaintSociety yes there is a reason I don't have a compressor so I'm undecided either a compressor or that turbine sprayer that is why I wanted to see if that turbine can do the job
Do you rinse out your spray gun between coats while you wait for the primer to flash since you're outside?
Hi Brain have a question I purchased Eastwoods 2K Aero epoxy primer in the 2 part can ,, is it a urethane epoxy primer?
Great video! 👍
320 the epoxy before urethane. Epoxy back over the filler and bare metal once filler work is done
Brian what primer would you recommend going over a 2k epoxy primer? I’m restoring a 1970 cutlass and I’m bringing everything to bare metal, cleaning and epoxy priming. Or should I do my filler work over it and then use the next primer (urethane or polyester)
Epoxy primer bare metal then body work over that. Then you can 2k urethane over the the whole car
Also a cheaper way to go is Eastwood has a sanding block that’s attaching to a shop vac.
Can you use this primer on plastic bumpers?
Im restoring the body of a 1961 bugeye sprite.
This will help me greatly🎉
good day sir...I am one of your viewer here in the philippines... hoping that i can have your used spray gun that I can use in my work...🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

Hello Brian, you said don't overthink, ok. But I notice here after cleaning your 3M gun, you did not connect the gun to your air, and blow out some air to clean all your hole.
Not needed.
Brian I’ve used the Eastwood primer a few times and thinned it 20% and even a little more I can’t get it to lay flatter.
Change to 1.8 fluid tip
Hey Brian, can I use sealer on top of epoxy primer?
Yea
*26:11** I was trying to figure out how you hot-rodded your water dispenser with an air compressor 😆*
That would be cool!
It’s nice seeing you use the 3M gun .. been contemplating on getting one.
Prices have gone way up
I've been watching these video over and over again to get ready to paint my hatchback in the spring
You can do it!
but with the 4.1.1 why would you not do the thinners then, an call the 1 the thinners/reducer ?
So if im painting bare metal it would be. Expoxy, 2k urethane base then clear??
What's up Brian, learning a lot from you chief,
Listen my first question, I've been working with residential paint so i just wonder to use that urethane primer over a ceilings and walls on my high gloss finish paint using holland lac from fine paints of europe so I don't think I gonna get any reaction from paint what do you think it's totally compatible in your opinion so please lmk what you think about all this and thanks a lot for your tutorious videos, peace out.
I’m not 100% sure but if you do use it make sure to go light on the first two coats followed by a medium coat so you don’t get a reaction
And when I supposedly know is the right time to use that fish eye product on my paint ? Thanks again.
Do you have problems with condensation in the hose when spraying in the garage/at home?
No. I have a whole filtration system. Check out my videos on that.
@@PaintSociety checked. I have about the same system but still get some water coming out in the area where hose connects with the gun. This happens when spraying in warmer days. Any thoughts?
@@cos9312 Attach one of those cheap, orange screw on filters between the hose end and the spray gun.
Great video
If I use primer and the surface isn’t flat, can I add body filler on top of the primer area?
i sprayed epoxy primer, and it came out smooth but with a little fine texture.
It must be sanded smooth, otherwise the texture will magnify in the top coats and clear will be orange peel AF, and metallics won't lay properly in a finely textured epoxy.
Hi Brian, I'm following your instructions,, How to prepare and paint,, But if something comes wrong, don't overthink,,is my mistake,, thanks.
