    back home, we knew a lady who made the best empanadillas ever and served them to us with puerto rican rice. it was the best. I'll have to try this recipe now because I been craving them. thumbs up amiga!

    Puerto Rican style empanadas were always my favorite. Haven’t had an empanada I didn’t like, but this is #1.

    I made your empanada recipe and so far its the best recipe that I have tried. My 2 year old grandson is a very picky eater and he loved them. Thank you for sharing, this recipe will be my staple when making empanadas

    When me and my sister get together we use that dough and fill it with blocks of Guayaba y queso.
    I use that to dough fill it with picadillo-
    they are addicting!
    I can eat like 4 of them or maybe 5.
    I like how you describe your food at the end.

      @@NataKnowsBest and then when we feel bad we also fill it with cream cheese and Guayaba. Lol And you are right about the color of that Goya dough- it has a nice ayote color. I love Goya grew up with it. When people were slamming Goya during the summer I bought tons of products and posted it - to show support.

    Yummo! Who doesn’t love a snack? Love that you used premade dough. In Australia, I haven’t noticed this in the supermarket unfortunately. Would you have a go to dough recipe that you’ll share in the future?

      Everyone loves snacks! The dough is usually in the frozen aisle, however a simple empanada dough you can make is: 2 1/3 cups of flour (sifted), 2 tablespoons of olive oil, 2/3 cup of boiling hot water and a pinch of salt.
      In a bowl, whisk dry ingredients, mix oil and slowly add hot water. Mix until you have a smooth ball of dough. Rest in fridge for 30 minutes before assembling.

    My Hubs is P.R. and hes always wanting me to make pastelon and these meat pies. I dont know anything about PR cooking (mexican!) but i was wondering if I could make a version incorpoating both flavors of these dishes since i hate cooking large dishes made in one pan in the oven, lol. I was thinking of adding a slice of fried plantain inside the meat pie. Im gonna try it this week, ill update if its a hit or fail!

    Love this! My mama is Mexican and we would always have Empanadas this time of year. They were always sweet with pumpkin or apples, but I have to try the meat filled version. These looked 🤤. New sub! 🔔

    I am a Boriqua from Brooklyn NY living in Minnesota and I haven’t been able to find the Goya discs. What can I use for the dough?! I’ve been dying to make empanadas

      Hi 🙂 in a situation like that I would recommend making your own dough. A simple recipe would be 2 cups of flour, 1 stick of butter, 1 egg, pinch of salt and 1/4 cup water.

      I recommend chopping the potatoes in small cubes and adding them in as the picadillo simmers. They cook pretty quickly when they are in small cubes.

    Only mistake you made was frying them in oil and not manteca. Frying them in lard adds a whole new dimension of flavor and the dough ends up with a much better fried consistency.

      Yes! I know, but in U.S mainland many Latinos refer to them as empanadas since it's the general term most Latin American countries use.
