  • I swung into Norfolk to visit friends while on a business trip back in March. After my disaster at the Howard Johnson last time ( • Hotel Review - Howard ... ), I tried another budget hotel in the area. At first glance, I thought the place was ok considering the low price tag. Things quickly went south when I inspected the bed a little more closely.

    Magnuson hotels is a fairly new hotel chain (founded in 2003 according to wikipedia) and it is made up of independently owned hotels witch most are former chain hotels that lost their franchise because they did not meet their standards or the owner just wants to keep more of their profit and have complete control over their hotel but still have a brand. Magnuson has no corporate brand image or standards so the only thing that is consistent from property to property is the name the owner has complete control over everything else so Magusons vary from bad to nice depending on the property.
    4:25 Avanti is actually a name brand in the hotel industry and they are actually based in the US in Miami Florida. Im suprised that the refrigerator is not an Avanti too.

      +BlueTiger Sounds a lot like America's Best Value Inn. If you ever want to find the sketchy hotel in town that couldn't keep up to the low standards of some other brand, they probably became an ABVI franchise.

    At 9:59, when you saw the hairs on the blanket, there's a black spot on the sheet that I thought you were going to say "WTF?"" but alas, you didn't

      Again, interesting how he didn't see that! The hairs I could probably live with, the bedbugs, NO WAY!

    There is a Magnuson Grand hotel on the outskirts of Richmond that apparently lost its franchise, but still uses the name. It is an absolute dump. If you Google Richmond Magnuson, you will see what I am talking about. This one seemed quite nice.

      Did some digging, it used to be a Crowne Plaza too!

    • @danielledoyle5670
      @danielledoyle5670 Месяц назад

      That was a dump, just did n in depth search for it, it was okay originally, went downhill in 2010, switched from a crowne plaza to a Magnuson grand in 2011, and since Magnuson is a budget extended stay conversation brand, all it did was rebrand, rename, and lower the price. Closed around 2015, opened as the akaza hotel, speco hotel,and hotel I 64. The hotel had so much debt by 2017, that they began hiring people off the streets and giving them places to stay if they worked qnd didn't pay them period and covered it up as a "new business concept",the photos of that place look like absolute crap. The hotel made local news shortly before permanent closure in 2018 when it was grounded and demolished. We had asimilar hotel in a town 2 hours away. It was a 60s holiday inn and it became a Ramada in 2011 after they built holiday inn built a new hotel down the street, eventually, it closed and became a apartment complex, but during the process transferring it to a apartment complex, it looked similar to this. The apartment complex is Acadiana apartments in lafayette la, another hotel is the Richmond suites lake charles la.

    I had an incident over in one Magnuson Hotel in Baton Rouge, LA. about 6 months ago. It was almost overnight and before we ended up there, people there in 2 Value Place Hotels gave my dad a VERY hard time, when all rooms were sold out. When we finally ended up at the Magnuson, 2 people there were arguing outside and inside the hotel lobby while my mother was checking in. Then after we got our rooms, I attempted to photograph a hotel tour video. But then harassment was started by a very rude front desk lady that threatens to throw me in jail just for photographing. I got very mad and pissed, and just left. Even the security there was very unkind as well. I will NO LONGER be staying in motels anymore, as that Magnuson Hotel we stayed had a lot of rude people there. It was horrible. I hope nothing wrong happened there to you.

    I know for a fact that the tan blanket is rarely washed - and is why they add the top sheet. This is what Holiday Inn use to do, and maybe still does.

    you should go to great wolf lodge concor north carolina it is like the worlds best hotel and the price is resanable but they have a huge indoor water park, arcade, spa, buffet, gift shop, dunkin donuts, two resturants and a ice cream and fudge place so you really need to go there

    Something tells me housekeeping 1) Didn't wash that blanket, or 2) Didn't clean the lint trap in the dryer. Either way, they need a refresher course on how to do laundry the proper way.

    Other than the bed (which I would've raised all sorts of hell about), not a bad room. Would've picked a different sink design, and the tub was a total shocker. Whodathunk it to have a Jacuzzi tub in a budget motel?

    • @TheElevatorChannel
      @TheElevatorChannel  8 лет назад +2

      +gladfan1989 The tub really makes me wonder what brand this hotel was associated with when it opened. I've never seen that before anywhere.

    pretty nice place for 60 bucks its not bad at all small room but all in all not bad. the flat screen is a plus, so is the microwave and mini fridge, nice looking bed too, pretty good at first signt.. lighting in the room is good,, I agree with what you said about the color scheme its all over the place and it could be better, not too bad though, pretty good ac/heat unit too and yep nice that it is digital, room furniture is fairly nice, the in room coffee pot is also a plus even though its small. as you said for a budget hotel its passable i agree it is passable, the bed ehh so/so the hair on the bed icky not good. the blanket with the burn hole bad, i would of taken that off the bed and gone to the front desk saying this blanket is not acceptable give me a clean one. sink area nice, and bathroom but a bit too average looking all though bath-tub fairly nice. would i stay at that hotel for a night or a few nights for one night yes a few ehh prob not and the no in room phone bad bad bad, no way to call for help if something should come up would have to run outside yelling help help, either they where careless and did not put in a phone or the previous person that was in the room took/stole the phone

    econolodge is a good option. how do you find these places? military people are more organized. yes it is very clean and bright. laptop went crunch. old micro not to have a clock. striped chair contrasts with the red walls and curtain. yeah tables look great. tan blanket must be replaced. very skinny jacuzzi. tan blanket drops it from 9.5 to 6.5.
