    There are a lot of good AR10's on the market. Picking the "best" is impossible, but picking a personal best based on my experience is much easier. The Daniel Defense DD5V3 is easily one of the best. The DD5 comes in different calibers and barrel lengths. The DD5V3 has a 16" barrel, the DD5V4 has a 18" barrel and the DD5V5 has a 20" barrel. It's also available in .308, 6.5 Creedmoor and .260 Remington.

    I bought a new DD5V4 last year. Out of the box it was struggling to strip full power rounds. Sent it back to DD and they replaced the barrel, gas block, installed a 3/4" longer buffer tube and different buffer spring. Shoots flawlessly now...even steel case. The repair manager called me personally to tell me he test fired the rifle personally and I should be very happy with the combination. DD had it back to me in a week.

      @@queefersutherland8495 as much as I loved my PWS, and as much as I generally view DD products as over priced for their quality, I would 100% go with the dd5v3 (if those are the only two options) as it will run a wider range of ammo out of the box.

      @@308supremacist I hear that the 216 wasn't very fond of wolf but ran fine with tula. Brass is fine. Wolf didn't have enough oomph had several fte/ft.. thanks for your input

    • @308supremacist
      @308supremacist 3 года назад +4

      @@queefersutherland8495 I had a LOT of issues with wolf ammo, and about half as much with Tula. It really boiled down to several factors, I went back and forth with PWS several times and eventually sold the rifle over the issues I was having. It is no fault of the gun, it is merely that the gun is designed to be a match rifle, and not a battle rifle. What I dug up about the PWS mk216's issue with ammo sensitivity is basically a perfect storm of contributing factors.
      1- To start, steel case cheap 308 ammo is very inconsistently loaded. I pulled the projectiles on 5 different rounds of wolf and 5 rounds of tula, and discovered that the "hottest" of them was still around 2 grains of powder less than the m80 ball. Couple this with what I cover in the subsequent paragraphs, and you have a perfect storm to make steel case inconsistent at best in regards to reliability from this particular firearm.
      2- The long stroke piston BCG is a considerable amount heavier than a standard 308 BCG. Normally you can make up for this with with a gas or buffer weight adjustment, but....
      3- To keep the rifle shooting smoothly, PWS has vent cuts in the gas tube. This would work very well with a gas regulator system that has many adjustment points, however the PWS system only has 4 counting the off position. None of those are in the right range to make up for the slightly anemic loading of the steel cased ammo, and the increased weight of the reciprocating mass does not help. ***Disclaimer***: This venting is very useful on "hotter" loadings, but it makes it more difficult to have the ass to cycle reliably with steel case.
      And finally, the space magic of it all, number 4- Steel casings expand in the firing cycle, just as brass does. That said, steel does not have the same rate of contraction post detonation that brass does. PWS advertises their chamber as a Match cut. Match chambers are usually tighter than non match chambers. So my theory is that the steel casing is sandwiching itself in that chamber, making the BCG have a harder time with extraction. Remember, the steel cased ammo is also a little under charged compared to its brass counterpart.
      Sorry if this long post was in any way hard to follow, but these are my findings after a year of fiddling with the rifle and trying to make it feed steel case. I would like to take this chance to add that the rifle is in no way an inherently BAD gun. It simply was not designed to fill a battle rifle role. It is more than capable of filling a designated marksman rifle role though, and mine particularly loved 168gr open tip match ammo. Thanks for taking the time to read this, get out there and train. Dont care if you're a tier 1 super delta seal force pj recon beret, we all can improve somewhere. Also, hydrate. This is a threat.

      Yep, in a recent video at Classicfirearms, they compared various firearms, when it came to Knights Armaments SE-5, one guy gave it only 4 points. There are nothing wrong with it. He killed it on price saying the rifle is nowhere close to $5K! I agree! My DD5V4 at $2.5K performs just as great as the SR-5! If the SR is better, it’s only 15-20% better, making it no more than $200-300 more, no where close to an extra 2.5K more. With that kind of cash, I’d rather get a good scope, like the Trijicon Creedo I have my eyes on, a good bipod, and rest on ammo. If you gonna charge a gun that 100%, then it better perform 200% better than the competition. KA, LWRC come no where close to the price they charge.

      @MA-ho5hd 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@zackadams419 Hey, Zack. Recoil impulse is much gentler than my Remington bolt gun, which is the only .308 I have to compare it to. I've only been at an indoor range with it so far, and the concussion of shooting..308 indoors has been more of a distraction than any felt recoil of the rifle. An extra 2 inches on the barrel will reduce recoil a bit, but the 16" doesn't have bad recoil as-is. The 18' will get you a bit less recoil, more fps and accuracy at the expense of handling. I prefer the compactness which is why I bought this one. It is one badass rifle.

    Excellent review Tim, love my DD5. Picked up a V1 during the Hillary panic in ‘15 back when they were first released. The V1’s came with a proprietary charging handle that had a ball detent at the top. Some owners found this detent would not secure the CH after carbon build up so DD changed the CH on the latter versions. Due to the ball detent standard CH’s would not work which is a feature I detest as I wanted to use an aftermarket CH. Also the V1’s shipped with KeyMod handguards and a Geissele FCG. Looking at picking up V4 18” upper for mine so I can get more out of the 7.62 NATO. 👍🏻🇺🇸

    Well I have to say I’m very impressed by the DD5V3 in both accuracy and recoil. It’s really kinda crazy cause initially I thought maybe you were just overplaying the recoil reduction but watching you shoot that gun it looks like the recoil on my 9mm PCC. Having said all this I’m not really that surprised cause I own a DDM4V5 in 5.56 and with its cold hammer forged chrome lined barrel it can still shoot absolutely lights out with the right load. My DD consistently out shoots my Colt 6920 and I know they are both chrome lined but I’m just setting the stage for how awesome DD accuracy is. I think the DDM4 and DD5 rifles might be some of the best bang for your buck gas guns on the planet cause even the DD5’s can be had for under the $2500 mark and for what you actually get that’s really competitive especially if you look at the cost of comparable platforms that shoot that good. I mean let’s face it what other gas gun are you going to purchase with accuracy and recoil impulse that good for under $2500.

      I have to disagree, having had 2 LMT MWS. On paper, they seem great, but in truth, they have the most recoil of any AR-10 type rifle. Even with a ltwt barrel, they are still 1/2 lb heavier than competitors. Now maybe the 20” barrel with rifle length gas might be a good choice for a static position weapon, but for me....I’ve had enough of them. I would take the SR-25, DD5V3, or the REC10 over the MWS.

    I’ve been waiting for your thoughts since you alluded to having one in a previous video. I’ve felt the DD5 platform was the best of the current platform AR10s since the V3-V5 enhancements were made.
    They’re doing a lot of things right with these rifles and I fully expect them to continue selling out for the foreseeable future.
    Argentina’s Special Forces seem to be extremely fond of their V3s and V4s so props to DD for getting this one extremely right.

      idk the proprietary everything is a turnoff and have read alot of owner reviews with issues and selling them.
      ADM UIC 10A comes with a more proven ambi lower, radian charging handle and saftey, geissele trigger, SLR adjustable gas block, b5 stock and surefire warcomp - all best in class parts
      This still looks really good, as does the LMT mws
      I am stuck one which to get
      I have other rifles from each company

    I bought a V1 for $1900 which is just about $600 less than the V3; still with Geisle trigger and chrome 16in barrel. Did the same test with worse ammo at 100yds and was able to put one in the same hole. I can say that buying a used V1 can get you similar results for the lower price. Dang good DMR.

    I would have to try out more to come to a conclusion on what my favorite is. I have an Aero Precision M5E1 and I absolutely love it. Just got the Primary Arms SLx 3-18x50 HUD DMR 308 reticle scope for it to replace the 1-8x ACSS thats on it now. The gun shoots way better than I was expecting so I decided to upgrade the scope. It's got an 18" Ballistic Advantage medium taper barrel with a rifle length gas system and a VG6 Gamma 762 brake. I added a gen 2 Magpul PRS stock but I'm seriously considering swapping it out for a gen 2 UBR. Also has a JP Silent Capture buffer with the various springs. That made a big difference in how it shoots. Only thing missing is a Geissele trigger. I'll make that happen at some point but it's sub MOA all day with the mil spec one that's in it. A close friend has a higher end Stag. I shot it a few times and found it to be exceptional for the money. He got it new for just under 1k then added a trijicon scope. Not sure which model. Was running Magpul Pro flip ups when I shot it. I used to really like the Black Rian Ordnance 308s but I'm not sure if their quality has gone down over the years or I've just been exposed to some really nice stuff but for some reason they just don't seem to be quite as good as they were several years back.

Adjustable gas block from wojtek, and a 1x green acss prism optic from primary arms. Oh and I put in a velocity 4lb trigger. My total cost counting the lathe was about 2600 after shipping.

    Pretty much everything DD puts their name on is good to go. I understand there are other very good AR10s on the market, but it is hard to argue with Tim's experience. Still, I think if you're willing to spend that kind of money on an AR, you're better off building, not buying. For the price of the DD; Aero Precision upper, lower, and 15 inch Atlas R-One Mlok, all Ceracoated FDE, Larue trigger, Radian BCG and charging handle, Magpul UBR Gen II and pistol grip, Magpul Pro LR front and rear sights, Proof Research 18 inch carbon fiber barrel, VG6 Gamma brake. Weighs just over 8 pounds with an 18 inch barrel, rifle length gas system, and 15 inch handguard.

    Buy once cry once. I just found my next AR-10 thats for sure! Gonna go with the 18” .308. Not sure about the optic yet though. On my AR-15 platform rifles with magnified optics I really like Primary Arms optics. Their reticles are outstanding! I can take friends that have shot before but don’t really know how to shoot good to the range, tell them at 200 or 300 yards just use the part of the reticle that matches the range and they can hit steel and have a great time. I only live an hour away from them so I can check out their optics in person before I buy. They definitely changed the optic game when they hit the market.
