Exterior looks good. The materials used on the interior of the new GX are on par with a $50K 5th gen 4 Runner Ltd. For a $90K out the door Lexus, I want to see more wood, carbon fiber, aluminum, more leather/padded surfaces, etc. What I am seeing is unacceptable. Way too much plastic.
idk about that, I have extensive seat time in the GX and while I will agree it doesn’t look as premium as I want it to look, it actually feels really good in person, all the touch points covered in leather and soft touch material. Is it possible to get better fuel economy without going hybrid (which would ruin the cargo space)? My conclusion is: this seems like a vehicle that the new Land Rover (in NA) was supposed to be.
For the price it doesn’t do it for me or seem like a good buy. It either needs to be cheaper or make the inside more luxurious. Too bad, I really like the look and live an outdoor adventure life and also am a professional; would have been a good fit.
98% of the buyers will never take this truck off-road. Most will be older adults who will hardly put any mileage on it. Wait 3 years and you can pick up this GX used for $45-55k with 15-30k miles. Let someone else take the big depreciation hit. Total waste of money to buy new at these prices unless you have money to burn.
I really like the new Armada, but I wouldnt buy a Nissan right now. The company is seriously struggling, and that trickles down to the dealership experience, service, warranty requests, etc. You might find some good discounts though. Apparently they’re set to merge with Honda. I’d definitely wait until that happens to see what the future holds for Nissan. Imagine spending $70k+ on a vehicle whose manufacturer ceases to exist in 6 months…
Armada is much larger with more interior and cargo room. You’d pick the Armada if you regularly need to carry more than 5 people with stuff. The GX will likely be more capable off-road bc of its smaller footprint. It’s hard to tell without driving both back to back, but the Armada will likely have a better ride quality bc of its fully independent rear suspension.
Why is your initial torque output always correct then you always default to the incorrect foot pound when referring to torque later on!? Car "journalists" should know simple car lingo....

Obviously nobody is paying 100k for this then taking it off road. But with the Land Cruiser being knocked down a peg for the US market, Toyota figured if you’re gonna pay 100k for a Land Cruiser, may as well put a Lexus badge on it.
Obviously no one is paying? At my local Lexus store, theres 300+ people waiting in line for these trucks and they won't even take a deposit for factory wait list. @@theredline It appears most are getting around 6 sec with the OT trim. I think the Luxury with the roof , wheels etc are weighing it down a bit extra.
Not when you compare this GX with any Defender. I’ve owned numerous TLC’s and RR 5.0 SC. This Lexus product is actually very nice although I wish it had more switchgear. I will either purchase this or the LX 700.
What should it have been? Gold? When you’re going off road you want the parts that are most likely to get hit or fall off to be plastic cos it’s more durable and cheaper to replace
I’d like to see a plug in hybrid with the same system the tx 550. I think you might not be able to fit the battery and all of the 4wd parts though. I have a rav4 prime and it’s great but has a motor in the rear for AWD which I’m guessing is inferior to a mechanical connection. I would guess that the vast majority of these $80000 luxury suvs never really go off-roading so an option that is powerful and efficient would probably be popular. That would still do just fine making the trip to Costco and the cargo in this is impressive.
I much prefer the look of the Land Cruiser. I know this is more powerful but the mpg is not as good. I think I could put up with the less satisfying 4 cylinder hybrid for the efficiency.
Leather leather leather Give me real leather!! I don't get it, cows are getting slaughtered every day. Why won't they use the cow hide? Also why can't the seats lay flat like a Land Rover LR4? I mean is it why LR4s are so crappy? Bc laying the seats flat will completely destroy all of the mechanical and electrical parts of the vehicle? Is that the 2 options (dependable but seats won't lay flat or lay flat but vehicle will break down every other month)? I just don't get why they won't learn from each other!!

Heavily heavily cheapened out.. what happened to Lexus? Good grief. Just a warning, if you are going to buy one of these new Lexus products, drive it for a long test drive.. they are super annoying with the new tech and even to the point of being dangerous with the all the noises the safety system 3.0 makes.. yes, you can turn it off but you’re paying for it so…. The fact is Lexus hit a homerun and can't keep the GX550 in stock. Long monthly waits for new inventory and large lists of buyers. Toyota corporate is smart and knows the market. The LC200 never sold well ..same for the Lexus version. The GX and LC slot in perfect.

I call these people bitter dead broke piss pots. It really must suck not to be able to afford the new and better GX.
I think this is the case. I owned a 460 and loved it, but having owned both the 550 is hands down a better vehicle and addresses all the issues I had with the 460. Interior is very modern and nice for me. I never cared for all the fake polished wood in the steering wheel etc of my 460. It looked gaudy and out of place. Fake wood is not luxury folks.

Dumb question… When he had the hood up was that 2 air filters? one at the bottom left and right corners? 😅
It's twin turbo
This is faster than the Acura MDX Type S tested on this channel.
MDX type s is way faster. 5.5 seconds vs 6 seconds
@naveenthemachine I said as tested on this channel. Look it up.
@@caf0011 as tested you mean the refreshed one or the pre refresh? Because in the pre refresh he got 5.5 seconds
@naveenthemachine refreshed, the last one tested.
How would this compare to the 2025 Armada Pro 4X? Both have similar rngines. Both are around the same cost. Which is better?
Probably Armada Pro 4x
Armada by far all day every day
I really like the new Armada, but I wouldnt buy a Nissan right now.
SX telluride has a nicer interior
Anything has a nicer interior than lexus except the lc500
I keep thinking, what if Toyota put the B58 in this thing. I think the BMW motor would be a good match. Or a re-cammed 2UR-GSE 7
for a twin turbo V6.. i dont know about that reliability right now🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️ thanks, but no thanks. ill keep my NA V6👌🏼
It doesn’t matter because you can not afford one. You can keep your cheap, slow, and mall crawler, it fits your budget.
The guy at the "DownshiftPass" channel did a review of the Premium+ trim level i JUST got done watching. So it's funny this popped up for me to watch because I really need to see the differences before I pull the trigger. I must say, this color is STUNNING though!
They could do an update that creates another shortcut button for favorite massage on same page as driving assist shortcut page. All driver assist functions can be done on the steering wheel. So it redundant wasted space onscreen. We should have more control over that. I’ve almost crashed twice trying to work the massage function on long drives. Extremely dangerous and very very tiny print not even outlined like a button should be.
Looks and feels cheap. Might as well buy a Korean for way less money but way more up-market feel
Brilliant design however, the rear end feels very uninspiring. They could have done so much better.
Is that a Chevy with all plastic interior
That thing is beautiful im so glad lexus doesn’t listen to yall fr they know their customers very good they keep it simple but update on the go no matter what yall will never be satisfied
@@sayvonsmith3682 no they don’t. Lexus doesn’t know their customers. Their customers are illegitimate
The don’t know what real luxury is. If it took a Mitsubishi mirage and put a Lexus logo on it they’d call it luxury
If you want to truly compete and be taken seriously, you gotta bring your absolute best. You cannot cut corners. Otherwise you’re deemed dead on arrival
Overpriced
Obviously nobody is paying 100k for this then taking it off road. But with the Land Cruiser being knocked down a peg for the US market, Toyota figured if you’re gonna pay 100k for a Land Cruiser, may as well put a Lexus badge on it.
Obviously no one is paying? At my local Lexus store, theres 300+ people waiting in line for these trucks and they won't even take a deposit for factory wait list. At the biggest store in my area, the wait list is about 500 people. Nobody paying for it? Gtfoh and dont pull up false information from outta your ass
Let’s try some reading comprehension. I said, Nobody is paying 100k for this THEN TAKING IT OFF ROAD.
I see them in MOAB often. They are being taken off road. I wonder why so many of you all often make blanket generalizations? It really does make your words less potent.
@@jcollins1305says hyperbolic generalization man man man 😅 but sure go off about reading comprehension 😅
How disconnected can you be from the car enthusiast/off road community to believe that no one is taking these trucks off road? Surely you are trolling.
You are complaining about going to screen every time to activate massage option, how about Tesla has nothing but a huge fugly screen.😂
But teslas cooler and more interesting. Their tech is better and they’re fast and fun to drive. Lexus isn’t

How is this heavy off-road Overtrail trim like half a second quicker than the Luxury trim you tested?
That’s what we were wondering too! We’re not exactly sure, but perhaps the bigger and heavier 22” wheels impacted that time slightly.
Heavier unsprung weight in the Luxury trim, and overall heavier vehicle. That's why luxury trim can't tow as much.
@@theredline It appears most are getting around 6 sec with the OT trim. I think the Luxury with the roof , wheels etc are weighing it down a bit extra.
Its not full time 4 wd.
Test it and you will see.
I don’t like the old looking mirrors
Ridiculously overpriced
Not when you compare this GX with any Defender. I’ve owned numerous TLC’s and RR 5.0 SC. This Lexus product is actually very nice although I wish it had more switchgear. I will either purchase this or the LX 700.
Premium cars dont have plastic fender liners.. Just saying.. Or fender flares or side skirts lmaoooo
What should it have been? Gold? When you’re going off road you want the parts that are most likely to get hit or fall off to be plastic cos it’s more durable and cheaper to replace
That interior does not look upscale at all, fake leather as well.. not happening.
cant even get these things honestly
Lexus, here's a hint: diesel plug-in hybrid. Imagine the torque. The range. The fuel economy. How are car manufacturers not even contemplating it?
@@Molishious I think TX's 550h+ is coming to this GX soon enough. I'm in Canada and we still don't even have the TX 550h+... sadly...
Compared with BMW X5, Audi Q7, Mercedes GLE, Tesla Model X, Jeep Wrangler, Toyota Land Cruiser, Nissan Armada, & Others SUV
It's really nice, but it's really not my style. To me, it sort of screams Duran Duran.
Leather leather leather
Give me real leather!!
All the beef they eat in Japan for $80000, and you don't even get real cow interior 🤔🤔🤔🤔
Is this sold in Japan?
Toyota really needs to clean up their seats’ back presentation.
Lexus has lost their way. Over priced and underwhelming! Next.
Agreed. I the infamous Toyota hater knew the GX would be such a disappointment
But none of you listened. You all laughed. I’m pretty sure you were one of them
75th!
LX600 or LX700H if you want closer to the real deal! still not impressed with the engine, though. Great review. TY, Sir!
This is actually a much better vehicle than the LX, by a long shot actually.
No it isn’t. Only the lc500 is the best Lexus you can buy. Everything else they make is complete garbage compared to other brands
@naveenthemachine what about the LS and the RCF track pack?
@ LS is dated. Nobody wants it because of how uncompetitive it is. RC F track pack is overpriced and slow. Isn’t the RC objectively discontinued? There’s no 2025 model
@@naveenthemachine So sad Lexus, is like the new Infiniti now. They are worse than Acura. There really isn't any true Japanese Luxury anymore
how are the Vietnamese liking the new GX, here in Portland the local Lexus, hired a Vietnamese lady for translation...Im pretty sure the overtrail doesnt have Leather
In my area they buy Mercedes mostly.
((Blown engines))
Before you buy one educate your self on the main bearings failing just like the tundras. 3.4 v6 twin turbo has had more engine failures than I’m comfortable with.
Wrong year and model. No recalls on the GX
Gotta make sure you do research and that you are giving accurate information not just jumping on the group mentality band wagon.
@@deanrotering879 correct no recalls but still the same engine. Just do some research.
@@LafemmebearMusic you are right. So take your own advice do your own research. I have and I have seen examples on the forums there is a Lexus mechanic posting examples. Educate yourself before you jump on the bandwagon.
You should EDUCATE YOURSELF. Recall is on different years/vehicles, the issue was manufacturing debris destroying the bearings. Resolved for these engines going forward.
It's me or The Body look very similar to the Kia Ev9
Heavily heavily cheapened out.. what happened to Lexus? Good grief. Just a warning, if you are going to buy one of these new Lexus products, drive it for a long test drive.. they are super annoying with the new tech and even to the point of being dangerous with the all the noises the safety system 3.0 makes.. yes, you can turn it off but you’re paying for it so…. We had the 23’ Lexus RX 350 and I sold it fast because of how awful the tech and engine was!! 🤙
We test drove the 24 RX350h and we didn’t love it. We had a 2018 and loved that one but the new one felt like an almost completely different car. The obvious difference is the CVT which is awful in any vehicle but the vehicle itself felt a bit cheapened. 🤷🏻♂️

He's right. It's wood-look trim because Lexus doesn't have real wood trim anymore on the GX. They called it "grained" trim.
Great look, but build quality sucks! Luxury is non existent for the money they are asking. It should have a Toyota badge and be priced at 50k. Don’t like my comment? Go buy one and send me a pic.

Lots of hate on these reviews that is unwarranted from armchair QBs that have either never sat in or even driven one. The competition is equally or more expensive and not nearly as reliable. The fact is Lexus hit a homerun and can't keep the GX550 in stock. Long monthly waits for new inventory and large lists of buyers. Toyota corporate is smart and knows the market. The LC200 never sold well ..same for the Lexus version. The GX and LC slot in perfect.

The GX is such a disappointment. It’s a huge letdown after waiting 15 years
Only people like you who don’t have any idea what real luxury is would say that 😂

I really find it humorous reading all the negative comments. Comments from bitter people who can not afford the new GX and comments from people who currently own the GX 460 and are bitter that they can not afford the new GX 550, which is clearly better than the mall crawler GX 460.
@ You nailed. Unfortunately when people are broke and bitter they are miserable.
