The body of this hat: Row 1 and 2: Knit, Purl, Knit Purl, etc.. Row 3 and 4: Purl, Knit, Purl, Knit, etc.. Row 5 and 6: Knit, Purl, Knit Purl, etc.. Keep following this sequence until you reach row number 19 and then proceed to close the beanie :) !
On row 1 of the body, she is KTBL on the knits. On the second row (which is a repeat of the first one), she is knitting through the front on the knits. IDK if she continued with this on rows 3&4. I guess I will do it that way and see what I get.
Any beginners who were as confused as I was read. Once I got the hang of this it was pretty simple. I learned to crochet a long time ago, so I also knit holding my yarn as she does which is called continental knitting. I find it much easier and faster to do it this way too! For the body of this, the first 2 rows she's Knitting Thru the Back Loop(KTBL) then a Purl stitch (she's just repeating row one into row 2) Make sure to use a place holder of some sort so you know when you are starting a new row Then rows 3-4 Purl then Knit Thru Back Loop (KTBL) Again make sure you have your stitch marker/place holder Rows 5-6 KTBL then purl. Once you've reached your marker after completing row 6 start the row 1-2 sequence again thru 5-6 until you've gone thru each sequence three times totaling 18 rows. I hope this makes sense and helps any new knitters out there!
Thank you for this, I'm not technically a beginner but even I just assumed the "odd" knit stitch was part of the continental style, but it does really make the pattern what it is in this case to KTBL
Actually, shes not knitting through back on 2nd row. Shes knitting from front. On the second loop around she knits through front. Dunno why? But I found pattern more defined if you follow her way. And 1st and second row are purl then knit. 3rd and 4th are knit then purl.
Hi Sherri. I sure could use some help. I am a "very" beginner. Is this correct: For the body of the hat we do the following: Row 1: KTBL, Purl, KTBL, Purl, etc. Row 2: KTBL, Purl, KTBL, Purl, etc. Row 3: Purl, KTBL, Purl, KTBL, etc. Row 4: Purl, KTBL, Purl, KTBL. Is this correct? Thank you. Barbara
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE THIS HAT! I made quite a few of them about three years ago and completely forgot about it. SOOO happy I've stumbled upon your video again! Cutest and easiest hat out there! Thanks so much for this video!
Good Morning, Thank you for sharing this Gorgeous Hat Tutorial. Today is Tuesday January 24th, 2023. And I'm about to make this Lovely, "Well Explained" hat. I actually woke up this morning wondering what Hat can I make today to add to my Donation Bag at the end of the year. And your Tutorial popped up on my screen. Thank you so very much for your Creative Inspiration. Please keep makeing Pretty things to share with us all. I Appreciate it! 😊
Every time I need a refresher on knitting I use this video. I think I even originally learned from this video. I’m a crocheter usually but want to do more knitting. Just used this video to make myself a lovely hat. Thanks much.
While I am recuperating from surgery on my feet, I am making this hat of your design. Thanks for your easy to follow tutorial. You speak fabulous English! Absolutely fantastic.
What is the circumference of your head in inches? measured at the forehead. My son has a large head too I am trying to figure out how many stitches to cast on.
Thank you. I will be knitting this hat. It looks like you are using the Moss stitch, another name is Seed stitch. Love it. I have Wool Ease in this color, so I will be knitting this up. It looks super fast and super easy. Thanks for sharing. Lisa
Hi Dani, I like and have knitted your Fair Isle hat. Thank you. Love how you teach. ❤️ btw Just wanted to let you know I've knit this hat and others similar to it. The stitches you use do have a name. Double Moss stitch since you are doing 2 similar rows. When one row is used and the second row you alternate the knit and purl stitch, it's called a seed stitch. Lovely! Keep up the job of helping all the newbies! 😂😊
Great hat! I will try this and let you know how it turns out. BTW, you did a really good job at making it look simple and easy to follow. Thanks, as I am new to knitting!
I used the same items and did the exact same pattern but mine will not fit an adult. this was a child’s hat format for me. I will try again and double the first cast on so maybe 90 stitches. Nice pattern thought and great explanation. Thanks for sharing 🧶

I never knitted on circular needles before, but I plan on making this hat.....however, I'm ready to start with the same clover 9 mm needles that your using and I do know the basic knit and purl stitch, but I'm just wondering if you have to knit in the back loop of the needle in order for this pattern to turn out. I've always been taught to knit in the front of my needle. Does this make a difference???? Thanks. Great video.
your explanations are fine, not to worry :) I have been knitting for about forty years but I have never seen the knitting technique you are using. Do you have a tutorial for your knitting technique? I use the English style knitting technique however, it seems your technique seems to be much faster. Thank you
Hi, this is so beautiful but in your video you say to start the body of the hat with a PURL stitch. Your pattern above says KNIT. Please advise. I’m anxious to start🙏🏼
I followed every steps and used the same supply yarn and needles and number of stitches but it came out big, any suggestions it turned out like a slouchy hats.
Great tutorial! Thank you! I just knit my first hat! It came out great except that it is a little big. I didn't think I had a loose knitting hand but maybe I do. Any recommendations for future projects so things don't always come out big? Or did anyone else find this pattern big... thanks for the help!
I needed this for my husband but it was too small. I used a super bulky size 6. Do I need to use a larger size yarn or do I need to cast on more stitches?
Ashley, without some sort of swatch on offer, you'll likely have to wing it to figure out a larger size. You can do either or both of those options (I'm editing to say, I misread your question to say larger needle not larger yarn. I would not try a larger yarn.) It depends how much too small the hat is. You could stick with the same needle size and start off with more stitches. Unfortunately, you'll have to guess how many to start with. Or you could maybe look for a hat pattern in seed or moss stitch using the yarn and needle size you have. Ravely let's you narrow your search using those parameters if that helps.

I knitted all stitches from the front but it wasnt as defined. Going to try it her way next. Does she not notice she did that?
