I saw a lot of comments asking how long the hat was before finishing it and responded with what I got, but figured I'd add a separate comment with the info. I just finished it to the specified size (100g of worsted weight yarn, 8mm needles, 48 stitches around) and it came to 31" or 78.5cm long before folding and finishing. I hope this helps!
Thank you for the video! I’ve been teaching myself how to knit after years of crocheting. So glad you also continental knit, that’s been the easiest method for me to learn since I’ve been so used to carrying the yarn in my left hand with crocheting. Appreciate the step by step tutorial. Wonderful and beautiful work!
I completely love this pattern. Thanks CJ for posting this video. I just made it in one day, and it looked great! I can't wait to make many more! Although, I played around with the number of casts and rows. It looked great. I used a different size needle (U.S 8 needle) with number 4 yarn, and the result was the same. 👌👌
@@bihuahua2600 Hi, I think I did about 58-60 or maybe even 62! I can't remember. However, I did repeat the pattern 130 times + 30 or 40 more. Hope that helps
I’m an avid crocheter and I’ve always wanted to learn how to knit. I’ve watched so many videos on a knitted hat and this one really sparked my interest! I’m going to try this one. Thank you!
You're so so so incredibly talented and kind for showing so clearly how to do this for free!! I was wondering if you could make a tutorial on how to knit a sweater with like the aran pattern? (sorry, I dont know what it is called). I know it'll a long process but just asking~
I am not sure. With so many holiday projects lined up and extra work, I did not get a chance to make one. I would use worsted or a 4 weight as it goes faster without the bulk of of a bulky weight. I usually cast on about 88 to 92 as I knitted larger stitches. It depends on how you knit based on trial and error.
@@lauracashman14 thank you for your reply! I cast on 52 stitches because i couldnt believe it would work with them stretched around so thinly. But it did. I guess trial and error must be gone through
@@lauracashman14 it is VERY thick it will be super warm. Next time i am going to reduce the ends so its thinner at the crown. 😁 if u make it it does make very nice fabric.
What a great job you did if those hats I am just starting out so I hope mine turns out ok. Thank you so much for showing me how to make such a beautiful hat. 😘😘😘
Omg I never thought about doing it like that! Thank you for sharing! Do you block your hats? I'm new to the art and barely found out what blocking is 😅
I doubled my wool and used a size 7m needle, for double knit wool, there is a similar pattern on drops, but this is easier I had to increase stitches to 60
Great patten! I finished it and it looks great and thick, just like a loom knit! thank you so much. I do need help with sewing in the top as it feels a bit thick and chunky in there.
I am currently making this beanie. I am using Hobby Lobby's I Love This Yarn. I am currently in 18 rounds and feel like it is too small. I hope it will fit me by the time I am done with it. I thought of adding 2 to the CO but I really wanted to follow the pattern as is. Crossing fingers that it will fit me.
Did your hat end up fitting you? Starting this pattern but seems a bit small. I'm skeptical that it will fit and I'd hate to have to frog the whole thing once I'm farther ahead....
@@candydulce526 - Surprisingly, it did fit me. I love it. However, I don't think I will be using the entire skein next time. I used a different yarn and it's too slouchy for me for my liking. I didn't count the rows I made... I just used the entire skein.
Could you please tell me if I could use an Aran weight yarn instead of 20sts per inch yarn? Would I need to cast on a different amount of stitches or a different size needle? I love this hat but wish to use a different yarn. Thank you in advance CJ Design for answering.
Thank you so much for your videos. I am fairly new to circular knitting and your videos have helped me tremendously. If I want to use a longer circular needle, how do I determine the amount of stitches to cast on?
I think you just cast on the number of stitches you would with the 16in circular needle. But then you need to split them in half (so cast on an even number) and do the magic loop technic, which is what i do!
@cjdesignsblog, you are an amazing designer and I greatly appreciate your willingness to share your talents with us ☺. I have one question. How to you keep the ends from curling and how is it that you have the same stitch look, on the portion that is folded, too? Thank you!
It works if you use size 11 needles and a worsted or heavy worsted weight yarn. I accidentally used DK weight yarn and it ended up child sized. But with the correct yarn and size 11 needles, it’s adult sized.
Beautiful pattern. I just picked up some beautiful yarn to make this for my 7-month-old, hoping to tweak the number of CO sts. Has anyone made this pattern for a baby / toddler? I read in previous comments that the hat fits somewhat snug for an adult. If using the same weight of yarn and 8mm needles, do you think 36sts CO may work? Thanks in advance. :)
thank you, I've always wondered how to sew a hat to keep it a bit thick when it stretches and give a cleaner look. I don't have circular needles of that size but I'll just have to do with DPNs. Can this work on 1x1 Rib too or on Stockinette stitch only?
Can you do a video on no finger gloves with round needles. I have looked on RUclips and many videos but all using about 5 needle which is very confusing given that I have just started knitting. Also I have only used two needles up to now but you have inspired me to try and make the hat and I have ordered circular needles, which I am waiting to come,
Thank you so much for another great knitting video! I am confused with how you actually weave in the cast-on side in order to pull and close it. Merry Christmas :)
Your video really useful. Thank you so much ❤️. I have one question. My head is small so I also need make the first 48 steps or shorter than? Hope so you answer my question
I ❤your video and the way you explain can you please tell me how much stitches should I cast on for a 6 year old I love to do for my grandchildren hope you can help thank you Gloria
I couldn't joint the round on my knitting needles because the clear wire on mine is too long to pull the cast all the way to the other needle. So i switch it non-attached knitting needles but i still don't know how to attach the round
This is a late reply, but you should look up "magic loop" knitting tutorials. That technique lets you knit in the round even if your circular needle's wire is longer than the circumference of what you want to knit
Haris The needles used in the tutorial were larger (8 mm) than what is typically recommended for worsted/medium-weight yarn. This is how she was able to knit the hat with so few stitches cast on, and this is also why her stitches appear so loose. If one wants their hat to look similar to the hat made in the tutorial, I think the 8 mm needles in 16” length would be best.
I just finished the same hat but I sized way down to a 5.0mm. I must have thinner worsted weight because using 8mm left giant holes in my hat and I’m an extremely tight knitter. My yarn said it was size 4, but it looks slightly thinner than what she had here
Maybe my question is silly, sorry but I am a beginner. I bought a 80 mm circular knit, so my knit round is very long and I can't manage to distribute al the stitches along the tube because it's really long. How can I resolve it? Thanks!
