Dear fellow beginners, you will need to know how to do a long tail cast on correctly first.also watch a slower video on how to do a knit and a purl stitch properly, then come back to this .happy kniting
Thanks so much from a beginning knitter! I used this video to make my first hat and I loved it. I made a second as a gift and I’m now going to try the beginner cable knit. Your videos are so helpful!
This was only my second time knitting in the round and I found the tutorial to be very comprehensive and easy to follow, especially after putting it on half speed at some parts. My hat turned out beautiful, thank you!
Thank you ☺️ I'll be knitting this for the man in my life 😊 It looks very feasible and I'll be applying: knitting rib stitch in the round, making decreases, and using the magic loop technique all for the first time 😊
finally finished my first project!! after knitting for like 10 years i’ve never finished anything and this tutorial made it super easy! thank you for sharing ❤️🫶🏻
I'm a beginner and this was my first time knitting in the round. The pattern and video together provide great instructions and I finished up with a great looking hat! The magic loop at the end was a little nerve wracking but it all came together nicely in the end (pun intended). Thanks for the pattern and new skills!
Big thing I’ll say that confused me enormously using pattern and following this tutorial was skimming over joining in the round. That’s a big thing to assume a beginner knows how to do, and I actually did this three times before I had to pull up another tutorial to actually understand why I wasn’t getting the same results. From one teacher to another, if you’re aiming your work at “new” knitters, please keep in mind there’s a lot of very basic stuff they might not know yet. Every step needs to be identified.
My first ever knitting project! I usually crochet but loved the ribbing on this hat so I had to try it out! So happy with it, thank you for the tutorial!! :)
I just completed my first hat thanks to you. Using the video and pattern together, it was an easy project as a beginner. I had only made scarves before this. Thanks!
For those having a hard time understanding........try searching first the individual techniques such as "how to do a cast on" or "how to purl"....it will be easier to understand this video once you'll learn the basic. This may seem a bit confusing if this is your FIRST time knitting since she is using a knit-purl technique. I think it's better that you start on a simple all-knit project before you try those with patterns. This video is actually very easy to follow for "long-time beginers"😅😅😅
This is a great project and the tutorial is easy to follow! My only issue is that I made the small size with worsted weight yarn and it's super big and stretchy. I'm going to try again with DK weight. Thanks!
I know you probably won’t answer this but I want you to know that your tutorial is amazing! I got to finish knitting my first beanie in two weeks and I’m so happy! ❤ thank you for this video
Best tutorial I‘ve ever seen❤❤❤I just followed this video and finished my first knitted project 🎉🎉🎉It‘s so clear that even a beginner like me can also understand❤❤❤
Very nice Brittany! Great tutorial. I have one question. What 16 inch needles did you use before switching to Magic Loop? They look so sharp! Thanks for another great tutorial!❤
Thanks for the tutorial. I’m just a little confused. If the ribbing is the same throughout the hat, when the brim turns up, the ribs wouldn’t line up, as yours do. Did I miss something? Also, did you go up a needle size on the crown? Thanks.
depends on the yarn and your gauge, as well as what size you’re making. as tedious as it is it’s probably best to just make a gauge swatch and then figure it out that way 😅
Happy new year! I am excited to make this and it will be my very first knitting project. I have a question, I am using 4mm needle and planning to make an adult large. How many do I cast on? Thanks
I used a worsted weight yarn and tested my gauge and ended up with a hat far too large to fit anyone's head. I've done magic loop before and had no problem, but this time somehow I ended up with the stitch marker on the back needle and the working yarn on the front needle. I would have liked more detail in the video. I rewatched it many times and wished it didn't skip ahead so I could maybe figure out what I did wrong.
Hello! I followed your instructions and used all the equipment you listed. I'm only on the 4th row but so far the beanie looks like it would only fit an infant. Is that normal? This is my first attempt at knitting a beanie or using circular needles... Thank You!
Did you check your gage and make a swatch and refer to the pattern ? It’s very stretchy.how many stitches do you have , what yarn are you using , what size are you making ?
So it actually turned out fine! I was using Lion Brand Fishermens wool going for adult size.. I'm on my second beanie project now with circular needles and I believe it just always looks smaller than what I think it should be in the beginning. Thank you for your response! @@Honeybee-Hedgehog-Designs
Seems easy for me and I’m not that experienced in knitting. I have knitted hats and gloves before, maybe that is why. I liked this video very much. Thank you❤New Sub‼️
Does anyone know why you can’t just start with the longer circle needles in the first place? I would be afraid to transfer the stitches and mess it up.
For anyone else looking in the comments like me, I also ended with 37 stitches on row 7 on the large size, but I closed off as indicated in the pattern/video and it still worked just fine with 37. So no stress :)
I did a small. But even made it smaller, casted 88 stitches and row 7 ended up with 29. Was wondering if I was the only one ending up with more stitches than the pattern says.
You would have to take out rows so that would mean ripping it back to remove them all the way back to before doing the crown shaping ( measure as you go ) depends o!n the recipients head size
Hello how many cast on for large adult size? Even on the written pattern it didn’t mention on how many cast on will you need if doing a small or large adult size
Thank you for the video! I am having difficulty with decreasing row 7. I have the 50 stiches but when I finish row 7 I have way more than I'm supposed to. I'm doing the small size and was wondering if anyone else had troubles with the math?
Hi I don’t knit I crochet but want to try knitting. Is it necessary to have needles that connect with that tube thing or can I make this with just two separate needles?
I can't find the number of stitches or the length of the straight section of the beanie. Please can you give me the sizes on here or the website link. Thanks
When I got to the reduction, I ordered circular needles long enough to make a small circle. I was knitting with 4mm needles. As I decreased the circle and pushed off the needle onto the smaller cable, the stitches became tighter on the cable so, when I got around to the other side of the circle the stitches on the cable were too tight to move up onto the needle again. I typically knit loosely so I'm not sure how this happened but now I am stuck with either reversing all the stitches or cutting the project off the cable. What a bummer!😢
This is completely normal! As you decrease the number of stitches for the crown, eventually they won’t fit around the needle. So you should switch to a longer cord and use the magic loop technique for the crown, or you can use double pointed needles. I tend to prefer magic loop. I have a couple videos on how to do this if you want to check them out!
@@dennamartin9901 You could knit it on 4 needles. Or you could find a different pattern that knits up flat on 2 needles and is sewn up after the knitting is done.

I'm wondering this too! I only have 36" circular needles (they're also 5mm, instead of 4.5mm). I could go out and buy some more, but I'd rather just use what I already have, if I can.
I accidentally learned that 84 stitches is enough with US 10 (6mm) needles (i used 4 gauge yarn). I know a pattern for the stockinette stitch that only uses 84 stitches, which is what i used until i realized that pattern wouldnt work for the ending part, but at that point i was nearly halfway done the length so i wasn't going to restart with the proper stitch count, i figured that at worst it could just be a child's hat, but with the amount of stretch 84 stitches was plenty for my own head
lol me too, the instructions on the website were confusing like I didn't know how long to make the body of the hat before closing off yknow then having to introduce new needless nahhhhh i been lost 5:53

How many do i cast on for medium 4 yarn and size 5.5mm needles for adult large?
Do you have any pattern adjustments to make a child’s hat? 4-6 years ish?
When you do your first cast-on, it looks like there are 2 stitches there - do they count as 2 or one?
It counts as two

How long should this take a beginner to knit?
What should I do if the yarn I’m working with is tiny? I’m using 3.25 mm sized needles? How many stitches should I I cast on?
My yarn is a bit lighter and creates a gauge of 24 sts rather than 20. Should I go up to a size 8 needle or increase the number of cast ons?
Can I use a different cast-on than the long tail? And, can I start with 32 inch needles?
How many stitches when using acrylic yarn?
How to I transfer if I only have one pair of the needle size? 😢
Amazing tutorial thank you, short and sweet!
This is a great pattern , one other pattern on RUclips uses ssk for the decrease rows and I haven't figured that out yet :-)
