Sorry but I have to disagree. The whole front seat back seat thing is a matter of respect. Whether it's my mother or just a random older person, I will always defer to sit in the back. I was just raised that way

I opted out of marrying a child-man like this. He let his mother change out the chairs we’d purchased together. I’d warned him not to let her do this. I broke the engagement. One of my better decisions in my life.

I admire the fact that my husband has a great relationship with his mum but she definitely doesn't third wheel with us. We have healthy boundaries and everyone is happy.

He’s the problem, you can’t let your mother infantilise you forever. It’s your responsibility to make sure your partner feels heard in the context of your immediate family. He should be able to choose what he wants but make his fiancé feel comfortable too. They are squashing her down to nothing to fit them. That’s not a partnership. I feel really passionate about this because it seems like the bride does not have the perspicacity to see what is happening to her, she needs to stand up for herself or find herself in this dynamic forever.
Agree. She seems very sweet and kind....and easily stepped on by that awful mother in law to be. This “man” is really a boy inside wanting his mommy to be happy and at the expense of his fiancé. I hope she sees this and decides not to marry him.

Does anyone else notice that when she (the mom) wants something she holds her sons arm and touches his face and makes him look at her as if mentally telling him, "You can't disagree or say no to me." You can see he wants to chime in while she's talking about her wants but he just smiles and kind of backs away when they make eye contact.

There is NOTHING nice about this child. Clearly he doesn’t know how to care about the feelings of the “woman” he has chosen to be his partner in life. I’m a little reluctant to refer to her as a woman since she is unable and ill equipped to defend herself in the world. She too has some growing up to do. This is a recipe for disaster. She is a naturally subdued humble person and she has no chance with the mom. As long as she knows what she is getting into. She will be #2 always, and her kids will be trained to listen to their grandma and disregard mom. Praying for her.
