  • 6 months and 10K miles in my 2021 Ford F150 has been good and bad.. In todays video we cover 6 things I've grown to hate in this truck!
    The new generation F150 has a new feature called cylinder deactivation and it's in my opinion not something that is needed at all as it does not provide better fuel economy. This is only one of the things we mention in todays upload. This video is also a bit of an owners review as these annoying features has been something that has showed itself over time, I hope you enjoy the video!

    #1 is a safety feature--trying to prevent accidental remote starts, particularly when your fob is in you pocket or purse or whatever. They want to make sure there's a deliberate act by the operator and not some random electrical contact glitch in the button(s).

    • @mikerzisu9508
      @mikerzisu9508 3 года назад +9

      That doesn't make sense. Most cars will shut off the remote start after 15 minutes and limits the amount of remote starts you can activate in between starting the car normally

    #6. Had a very similar problem on my 2018 model. I had it in and out of the dealership probably ten times over six months and they couldn't figure it out. I found the problem myself. There's a cruise control module located in your bumper that acts like a radar. It has to be exactly level. Being as you installed the lift kit on your truck you probably need to have it adjusted. It's supposed to be done on a rack but you could probably do it yourself. It's like aiming a headlight

    I'm a technitian at ford,we had the oil consumption issue on the previous 5.0 .Ford actually says in the workshop manual that they allow 1 qrt of oil consumption per 3000 miles. I would never go by the dash. If your towing or driving it hard that could b more. So basically I've seen trucks 3 to 3 and 1/2 qrts low. The ecoboost does the same thing. I've had them come in with a phaser rattle and come to find out it was low on oil because they waited for the oil life on the dash to tell them to change it

    Sound dampening/deadening will not only eliminate unwanted road noise from entering the cab, but it will also stop vibrations and rattles from inside the door panels, head liner, etc. I’m sure I’m not the only one that gets in the moment with a good song playing full blast and driving alone. Your oil consumption is due to not having cylinder sleeves. They used a plasma wire lining that’s then honed. It’s definitely not perfect and causes oil loss. My 2020 August build did the same thing. However I’m sure the cylinder deactivation is using some to due to fuel shutoff and acting like a diesel in a way with higher compression on the cylinders that aren’t getting fuel, but still receiving oil.

    I’ve found 2 things on my 21 that are driving me crazy. First one is the horn beep that goes off if you get out of the truck when it’s running and you have the fob in your pocket. It happens literally when you get a foot away from the truck. The other one is that Ford can’t seem to figure out how to make a trailer plug/ trailer light module work with LED lights. All my trailers I tow have LED lights and they all give me an alert (chime) like your abs fault non stop when towing. They have changed the trailer light module, the trailer plug and I’ve tried probably 7 or 8 trailers now and they all give a fault of some sort. Sometimes it says trailer disconnected, sometimes check a certain turn lamp, sometime trailer light module fault and every time it does it all the lights are still working. Seems there is an adapter you can buy off Amazon but the point is Ford should know that folks are going to tow and should make a module that will function properly with both normal and LED trailer lights.

    Hi Mike, my tech advisor keeps telling me that cylinder deactivation is for compliance with stricter emissions standards. Just like auto-engine start/stop, variable displacement technology allows manufacturers to meet tighter emissions targets with their current ICE offerings. Ford must now use every trick in the book to satisfy the EPA, an agency that uses compliance with the Clean Air Act to err on the side of less pollution versus fuel economy. Next stop, our Electric Future.

    Your ABS warning and collision assist warning is bc of a bad brake booster. Same thing happened on my bone stock 2021 2.7 F150 @ 4k miles. There is a recall for a seal that was not installed correctly, and that allows brake fluid to leak into the wiring harness attached to the booster. This causes all sorts of shorts and warning messages (and that annoying chime) but doesn’t change drivability of the truck. They obviously fixed it free of charge. Hope this helps.

    I haven't read all the comments so I don't know if it's been mentioned but I'm pretty sure I can guess what's wrong with your ABS system...When you change your tire or wheel size you have to program the truck with the new size so it can correctly calculate Mileage, MPG and be able to calculate it's speed so it can judge distance for collision warning and if the tires are a different size then what it is expecting it might think objects are closer then they really are and trigger the collision detection early. ForScan should allow you to change it and there are a few online vids about it.

My dad has a 19 5.0 and he has the same issue with the chime when apply brakes. After looking his truck over and riding in it, we discovers it was his led brake light bar under his tailgate. 1) I WISH you can permanently disable the auto start/stop feature. I know it takes a second to tap the button to turn it off but it would be nice to not have to deal with it every time I turn on the truck.
    2) the digital gauge cluster is good, but not awesome. I do wish we had more freedom to customize the cluster. Compared to some other vehicles I’ve been in, it just doesn’t seem as developed. Good example is the mustangs digital dash. Very well thought out and well customizable.
    I know these trucks have over the air updates so maybe we can see some new features down the road?
    Overall I do love the truck. Arguably, it’s probably one of the best vehicles I’ve had so far.

    Oil consumption has definitely been an issue for the 5.0 in the f150's and ford is aware of it. It has been ongoing in my 2018 since I bought it new. First the dealer replaced the dipstick with a longer one and then they did a tsb update on the computer altering the fuel injection process which only helped a little bit. They finally said it is how it is and it will not be a problem but ended up extending my powertrain warranty to 110k miles for peace of mind.
