Hey everyone! I appreciate all of you for checking out my video. I made a Part 2 "follow-up" video to answer some questions and go more in-depth with the pros + cons of each individual engine. Check it out if you'd like- ruclips.net/video/IdvFLejWfY4/видео.html
You made me an instant fan for simply not Stomping on the pedal of these brand new trucks. I appreciate the respect you are giving them. These trucks will go to owners soon and you didn’t abuse them. Love the respect you show. Instant Fan and subscriber. Thank you
All trucks are expensive so people saying price are not being fair. I was the guy that laughed at v6 full size trucks and would never have one and also a gm guy then I drove a 3.5 EB and now have an 18 platinum. I looked at gmc denalis and they were higher than the fords... the 3.5 is a monster and hasn't been dethroned just yet. Also I average 20 mpg normal driving but can tow 14,000 lbs. It drives like a deisel when towing. The low end grunt is insane. Good stuff bro
@@SKJ--mz5ij 200k on turbo v6 in a half ton truck with no problems? I highly doubt that.... flat land commuting maybe but towing loads up steep grades quite often would probably burn out the v6 within 50000 miles if that
@@stevemino142 Not really the V6 they're all CGI blocks which are ridiculously strong. Only issue is the turbo seals wear out quick, My 2.7 at 80K turbo seals are going out which is attributed to my tune more of. The stock turbos can only handle 19 psi max, they're at 15 bone stock at least for the 2.7. May put 3.0L Ecoboost turbos on as the turbos are slightly bigger then the 3.5 and 2.7 and are safe to run on pump.
@@paulhunter9613 never owned a ford and never will but I do know a small displacement turbo gasoline motor in a full size truck is just asking for problems... overheating premature head gasket failure bad fuel mileage NA gasoline V8 is where its at if you want a capable truck that will outlast the factory warranty
Just about To roll over 300,000 miles on my 2013 XLT 5.0 F150 and it still runs like the day I got it new. You can’t beat that V-8 sound and with the Borla exhaust it sounds just like a Mustang!
My 2013 5.0 4x4 just rolled over 270,000 miles. Lots of heavy towing and it's still going. It is showing signs of wear. I have walked off the lot three times in the last years due to the stupid prices of new trucks. Just not going to do that to myself. I absolutely refuse to by a truck that shuts off at a red light or has cylinder deactivation.
I’m def a fan of exhaust sound ... my Sunday driver is a ‘14 GT500. But I’m glad I chose the 3.5 for my ‘19 F150 ... absolutely flawless performance and fun to drive.
Lucky! I love those 13-14 GT500’s. Since you have a V8 in the stable already, you can just drive the Mustang when you want V8 rumble! Nothing wrong with that
V8 'rumble' is nice if you're cruising to the drive-in. Get on the highway for a 300 or 1200 mile drive and 'peace and quiet' beats 'V8 rumble' hands down. My 3.5 Eco has been on a bunch of 300 mile trips - dozens last summer - and it's a dream on the highway. Smooth, quiet, and good mpg's. (Though nothing gets good mpg's when pulling a trailer.)
@@mscottlawrence2037faster than the 3.5 and the 5.0 stock for stock. And im at 100k miles no repairs no nothing. Last owner had it sitting for 1 year straight. Oil was black and it had goo in it. Did a engine flush and she runs like a champ.
Me too. The sound of the 5.0 V8 is much more enjoyable than the EcoBoost. In my opinion, the way a truck should sound. But the EcoBoosts are awesome as well. I Whipple supercharged my 2015 5.0 and I love it. Ford are the best truck's period. In my opinion.
@@kevinpence8590 I'm a Chevy man. But ford does the best trucks, hands down. The V8 should be bored and stroked to 5.3 Liters. The tq would happen lower in the RPM range for it's peak. The EcoBoost has internal issues that slow it down after about 40k miles. The coyote V8 is an Excellent V8. The V8 is most excellent. An incredible motor.
The newest gen of the 3.5 Ecoboost doesn't have the issues of the previous generations,in my opinion. A good friend has a 2021 3.5 f150 and after factory warranty was up he upgraded the turbo downpipes, cold air intake and a tune and now it puts out 500hp. But before the upgrade it was at 68,000 miles and still spanking stock 5.0's
@@shawnwade302 I can make 500 hp with the Bullit intake manifold and shorty headers w max flow cats. I can toss a paxton SC on it with air to air intercooler and stoke the 307 ci to 321 ci. Toss a larger TB w 1" spacer for ram effect and a dino tune to make an EZ 700 hp and 655 lb ft. It costs cash. But I can do it. The 5.0 has less that can go wrong with it, and is extremely durable.
@@shawnwade302 there is only one current 3.5 EcoBoost T6. And it's only been lightly revised. Mainly with more boost, better valves and assembly. And newer, forged rods and crank.
Change your oil every 5000, maybe 6000 miles with Mobi1 synthetic and that thing will last forever. I know people say you should use a synthetic blend, but until mine starts acting up, burning oil, knocking, idling rough, I'm sticking with Mobil1. Eight years old and not a single problem. Still sips gas and pulls like a bull.
@@CajunRulez I don't get the 'synthetic blend' purpose. It's like saying 'there's only a little bit of pee in the punch bowl.' Full synthetic, and definitely do NOT use the Fram 'orange canister of death' oil filters.
Test drove the 5.0 and 2.7. For me the throttle response felt better in the 2.7, it's also faster off the line for sure. 5.o sounds amazing but you don't really feel that power until your up to like 4 5k rpms. And I'm not sure about cylinder deactivation yet. Think I'm gonna go with the 2.7 even tho I was all about the v8 before I drove the 2.7
What's the most impressive to me is that there is not as much of a step down at all between the 2.7 and the 3.5/5.0. The 2.7 is basically the base engine but isn't that much slower than the 2 premium engines. My 2.7 cc 2wd went a 14.2 in the 100% stock thats wild for the entry level engine.
The 2.7 is a fantastic engine! Sometimes I have to look at the window sticker in new f150’s because I can’t tell the difference from the 3.5 until I really get on it
I just bought a 22 f150 Platinum Black appearance, with 3.73 gears and 5.0. 4x4 Fully loaded. It came with a leveling kit, and 34 inch tall Heavy Nitto Ridge grapplers. I got 14.4 seconds 1/4 mile based on Dragy. This thing is quick. With lighter/ slightly smaller tires I should be able to get 14.1-14.2
I still love my 18 2.7/10 speed 2wd regular cab short bed F150. I did have to put better wheels/tires on it though. The stock 17" tires are a joke considering this truck's capabilities. I feel like I drive a 90's Lightning but with way better than the old slow V6 fuel economy. Best of both worlds. Mine is Leadfoot grey with the sport body color bumpers. Looks really nice. had several people ask me(after I added the OEM+ look 20" wheel/tire upgrade) if it was a special performance version.
If you’re getting a daily driver, get the 2.7. The main reason I am saying this is because of the low end torque. Peak torque (400) comes at 2,750 RPM’s. This means that the truck rarely has to go 3,500 RPMS or higher, compared to the 5.0 which has to much higher lengths to get up to speed.
I have had both the 2.7 and 3.5 as loaners and man for daily use I really enjoyed the 2.7 it was shocking with how good it took off and handled itself very refined engine
@@23tails15 No , the 2.7 as of 2020 models was faster 0-60 , and the 3.5 would pull on top end of course. The 21 models 3.5 are slightly tuned better , and i would be the 3.5 pulls 0-60 as well. I don't know why people get caught up in performance numbers on trucks like a sports car lol. Yes the 2.7 is a very capable motor , with considerably more low end torque then the 5.0.
I got a 2.7… I ride around town mostly, and don’t tow much, but need a truck still for work. Perfect fit for me. Great gas mileage. I also test drove them all.
Considering the 2.7 turbo six just to save some cash. I don't tow at all. The truck is just for typical home use - hauling furniture, going to the building supply or garden center. I'm sure it would be perfect for me.
I need to say this one more time. As a car salesman. For a certain car company, I simply appreciate the respect shown to theses vehicles. I have personally “ Dismissed “ 3 people at our dealer because of the abuse they put on brand new vehicles that didn’t belong to us and were brand new trucks. One of them was So bad that I had no choice to make it a “ Company vehicle” because I could not sell that particular truck to a customer. I am in litigation with that person because of the extreme abuse. We are talking about a $57,000 truck.
All 3 are great engine choices there’s no right or wrong . Just get whatever one checks more boxes off for your needs , or what you like better . I have a 2011 5.0 with 100k miles on it , zero major issues with it . I’ve replaced the 3rd tail light , positive battery terminal connection . Other than that just basic maintenance. I’m currently looking around at the 2021 f150’s , leaning towards getting a 2.7 ecoboost , I’m not towing anything heavy . One thing I find very odd across all the engine choices now are the plastic oil pans , and oddly positioned oil drain plug .
I said to myself that I wanted a 5.0 in my first new truck and test drove one and I loved every bit of it. I got my new truck over a year ago 2019 regular cab short bed but with 2.7 Ecoboost and I have to admit while I love the rumble of the 5.0 the 2.7 always manages to put a smile on my face even after 30k miles
When I bought my F150, the dealership tried like hell to get me to go with the 3.7 L V-6 and I literally had to yell at them that I wanted the V-8 and I didn't need a 4-door, I wanted a regular cab .... so order it for me from the factory. I don't think it took more than a month later I had EXACTLY what I wanted and had asked for and much to my surprise even more. I didn't know the truck came with the famous Coyote V-8 that was in the Mustang Gt the year before, and that little truck FLIES. I am sooooo glad I got the V-8 and I would never buy another F150 without one.
Damn dude! I can't believe you only have 9K subscribers. I've personally watched this video maybe a half dozen times because it really gives a good comparison (better than most) of the three engine choices.
I currently have a 2016 5.0, and previously had a 2.7, and have been looking at the 2021's mostly with the 3.5, as I might be getting a travel trailer for the summer, the 3.5 is a overall better engine for towing especially if I go up into the mountains, like he said in the videos they are all great engines.
I have a 2020 5.0 STX 4 wheel drive and I love it!!! Plenty of power and decent gas mileage. I’ve had a 2017 3.5 XL FX4 that was a great truck also but I like my 5.0 better!
Today I am getting my first pickup truck. 15K off for the 2020 remaining models and got into a 2.7L ecoboost. Test drove the 2.7L and the 5.0 over the weekend and was shocked by the way 2.7L engine offered! Coming from a paid off 2016 Ford Fusion to this. I am blessed
@@MatthewSmith-uf6tr Marshal Mizo in Chattanooga, TN. This place is awesome brother. They always have crazy deals! I bought the “remaining 2020 models left” - which they marked down 15K from MSRP. I financed the truck at 32K. That’s with a 2K down payment! If you don’t live to far from there, I recommend taking a look!! I think some remaining models have 12K+ off on their new deals
I drive a 21 F-150 with a 2.7 eco and the backup camera doesn’t fog like the one you drive first did. I like the 2.7 and it gets good mileage too, I get 23-24 in mostly highway driving.
I loved my 2019 with the 2.7, it was RWD and i used it for light hauling and towing sometimes but mainly a family hauler. It was so quick, got 25 plus mph highway, and drove so well because the front end/engine were so much lighter. Miss that truck.
Love my 2016 3.5 Ecoboost F150 XLT quad cab 4x4. I’ve got 38,000 miles on it.It runs great and no rattles. Get the 302 a package in the XLT or get the Lariat for a better radio and goodies. I love the power! I pull a 32ft rv trailer . Thanks for the video
@@RossLougheed I have a 2012 Ford F150 Fx4 Super Crew Cab with the 5.0L and 132,000 miles on it and I have had zero issues. (Knock on wood). Average MPG is 22.4 consistently. And I have only had 1 spark plug that "looked" fouled upon inspection during 100,000 mile tune up. It still functioned. The 5.0L has always treated me good. I had a 1999 Ford F150 with the 5.0L and it too was flawless. My old neighbor bought it from me in 2009 when I bought a Dodge Ram 1500 (Will never do that again). He is still.driving that 99 F150 as a work truck. I drove that train wreck of a dodge for 3 years had to fight the dealership with every issue. And I lost money on trade in when I bought my 2012 FX4. But........ Couldn't be happier with the FX4. The next truck I will buy new will more than likely be the Ford F150 STX or FX4 Powerboost (hybrid). I am gonna a Ford make a couple years of them and work out the kinks and or improve on the design. I can see buying one new in 3-4 years. My current F150 will be close to 300,000 miles by then. It will be time for a new truck anyways.
I've personally owned a new f150 from 16-21. All have been 5.0 besides 1 3.5L. I've driven the 2.7L as a loaner. The turbo ones are impressive with power, however the real world fuel economy has been consistently better in the 5.0. That is me driving about 100miles a day 70 is highway.
Everything I see says the Real World MPG on the 2.7 is actually 2MPG less than advertised and the 5.0 is 0.5 MPG better than promised. Which means I will only get the 5.0.
It’s so crazy folks talk about “down the road problems” with turbos. I’ve had three 3.5 EB f150s now and can’t imagine owning a non turbo engine. I don’t know who’s gonna keep the thing to 200,000 miles, but with all the past 5.0 issues in the f150’s, I wouldn’t want to keep it or a 3.5 over 60,000 miles. Longest so far was 28,600 miles lol I love my 21 f150 3.5 and my 22 Powerstroke, but I just don’t think I could go back to a non-turbo engine anymore.
"i don't know who's gonna keep the thing to 200K miles" uhhh, people who don't have money to just keep replacing their vehicle all the time? (especially one as expensive as a truck) but i will say in my experience, most people will find as long as they properly maintain it (oil changes on time, full synthetic oil, air filters replaced when they get dirty, transmission fluid and/or filter changed by the maintenance schedule, etc, etc), be it a 5.0, 3.5, or 2.7, it'll last plenty of time, ford has come a LONG way since the days of the triton 3 valve motors (again, most, obviously every vehicle has a bad production batch every so often, especially when you sell as many vehicles as ford does)
Evan Mclemore Yeah but wouldn’t the folks without money be buying the thing with 100,000+ on it already? if they kept it to 200,000 then for the normal guy that’s like 8 more years. Even if it would blow up and be useless he got his money worth out of it.
I just bought a 2022 STX 5.0 4x4 and man this thing is a blast. Start stop was deleted in mine and I drive in Sport mode so the cylinder deactivation is disabled. Plenty of power and very fast. It is definitely strong, especially in the mid-range. The other powertrains are nice but that V8 sounds and works great. It’s even better that it has proven overall to get better fuel mileage than the turbo engines. Unless you baby them.
@@evanl889only if you drive it easy does the ecoboost get better fuel economy. Driving aggressively or under load the 5.0 will win on fuel economy. The Fast Lane Truck has tested about every year model F150 towing, so it’s under load and the 5.0 gets about 0.5-1 MPG better fuel economy. Go watch their videos. I don’t drive like grandpa. If you drive the Ecoboost like a grocery getter and stay out of the turbos it will get better MPG. If you are actually enjoying the power or working the truck the 5.0 will give you better fuel economy. I don’t keep my foot out of mine, use sport mode a lot, have a tune and still average 18 MPG. If I had an ecoboost and drive it like I did my 5.0 the fuel economy would probably be about 15 MPG based on guys in F150 groups who drive aggressively like I do.
I have a 2018 f-150 4x4 crew cab 2.7 ecoboost, xlt, with the heated front seats, center console. 3.73 rear end, 10-speed, 131,000 miles and no issues at all. Summer I average 22mpg. Winter I average 19 because of idling it 15 minutes before work and driving in 4x4 80% of the time. I always have the auto start stop off. I test drove a 3.5 ecoboost and I was very impressed with it, but it was the max tow package and had e rated tires on it and it was not as comfortable over the bumps has my p rated tires on my 2.7. I like a plush ride now lol. I have raced a 2021 5.3 Chevy and I smoked him, while in sport mode, totally different beast. I tried racing a 2021 ram 1500 6.4 super charged and they wouldn’t do it, all my ecoboost badging is removed lol, they would totally beat me but it was still funny knowing they didn’t know what I had and didn’t want any of it lol. I’m happy with my truck.
I’m 61 and I tell everyone the 2.7 is the perfect old man’s engine, quiet smooth great torque and easy on gas, the lil engine never seems to be stressed and at McDonalds getting my coffee I can hear the turbos spoiling a lil bit, makes me feel just a tiny bit cool till I drive away and can no longer hear it. Pulls my 5,000 pound camper effortlessly 5 or 6 times a year and on my Super Cab got the 6.5 foot bed, so much more useable than the 5.5. Yes my 23 STX camera sucks and I thought Ford just cheaped out across the entire line, apparently not!😡 my three complaints, no lumbar adjustment, no fog light and now the horrible camera, other than those 3 things love it.
Consumer Reports found that the 5.0 consistently had better gas mileage that the other engine choices. At least, that was the case in 2017. I imagine it’s way better now with that 10 speed transmission
@@randykincy7954 that makes sense. Anytime you spoil the turbos you will yank your fuel mileage. I would imagine across the board throttle for throttle the 5.0 would get better fuel mileage. It’s just the nature of turbos. If don’t baby it the fuel mileage will go down a lot.
@@philncider8077 my fuel economy averages 17.8-18.3 mpg on trip 1 since I bought the truck 2700 miles ago. I’ve not reset it. I’ve reset trip 2 a couple times and it always balances out with trip 1. I drive in sport mode 90% of the time. In normal mode I lock out gears 9 and 10. I don’t care about fuel economy. I’m heavy footed and push semi fast 0-60s at most stop signs and stop lights. I’m sure if I drove an ecoboost the same way my fuel mileage would be way lower. You get eco or you get boost. You don’t get both. There is a video on RUclips of a couple guys that compared the ecoboost to the coyote pulling the same trailer up and down a mountain. The ecoboost felt like it had better power pulling up the mountain which makes sense with turbos. The ecoboost ran at about 4K RPM up the mountain. The coyote ran at about 5K RPM up the mountain. The coyote had better engine braking coming back down and better fuel economy than the ecoboost.
I’ve owned just about every f150 engine. Currently own the diesel and 3.5. Nothing I enjoy more then the 5.0. I will say the 3.5 is crazy quick and I am impressed with it.
except that starting in 2021 it has cylinder deactivation technology. like the chevys have been having problems with for years. it's the Bain of their 5.3
Being a 3.5 owner with a used 2011 F=150 fleet truck that I purchased at 140k miles in 2015 and now has 220k miles here in 2021, it's been dead reliable... and it's stupid fast on the 93 octane tune (even with the tommygate lift)!
@@JVette01 I will concede that I finally (just this month) had to do something other than oil, spark plugs, and tires... Seriously, it's been that boring for the most part. It finally developed an exhaust leak at the manifold. Replaced the offending manifolds with aftermarket high flow ones and runs like new again. Quiet (compared to the 5.0) which many people don't really like and just getting it done. BTW, I have used this beast to tow multiple trailer loads cross country (heavy loads - 8,000lbs and large enclosed trailers - 24') so it hasn't lived a life of luxury. It did come stripped of most everything, XL, 2dr, 8ft bed, no power windows, no power locks, no carpets, and no CD player. The only options it did have were Cruise Control, Max Tow (manual trailer mirrors, trailer brake), Heavy Duty Payload Package, 3.73 limited slip differential, and the 3.5l Twin Turbo ecoboost, of course.
The real battle is between the 5.0 and 2.7. The 5.0 sounds fantastic, but the punch the 2.7 has is addictive. The 3.5 swells with power, but there isn't all that much interesting about it, other than just raw power. On the street, stoplight to stoplight and towing, the 2.7 kicks the 5.0's hiney. The 5.0 though.. it really sounds really, really good. Comparing throttle behavior is like comparing saw blades. The 5.0 is like a fine toothed blade, it makes a nice even cut. The 2.7 is like an 8 lb sledgehammer.
15,000 miles on my 22 F150 with the 2.7. So far it's the best truck I have ever owned. Never bought a truck that actually gets better mileage than the sticker. High 20s on back roads at 65 mph.
Absolutely love my ‘21 Lariat Sport with the 2.7. Quick SOB with plenty towing power. Great looks and a fantastic interior. Have people commenting on it all the time.
Same here. I live in Albuquerque at 5500'. I tow a travel trailer throughout the west with my 2019 F-150 3.5L with the Max Tow package. I have no problem whatsoever going uphill at high altitude.
@@unclebob7937 he is just a five oh guy, I think those guys have to sign something when buying the truck with a five oh that states they have to say something about the turbos failing..😝
Good video. I just got the 2.7 and it is a great motor. I had a 2019 Mustang GT and a 2019 Ranger, so I’m really familiar with Ford vehicles. I’m very happy with my STX 4x2 with the 2.7.
V8 sound is one thing but massive amounts of low down torque is the most fun you can have in any vehicle. Turbo engines can be easily and inexpensively tuned. The 2.7 is the snappiest of the three as peak torque comes in very low. It can be tuned to make 500+ HP and 500 + Ft Lbs of torque relatively inexpensively. In an aluminum bodied F150 that weighs 4500 lbs. That combination is quite fun and entertaining, ask me how I know. p.s. I also have a 1972 Pontiac which is most likely the loudest road going V8 in the county if sound is what you're into.
@@Freakyfetus The turbo 6's were made for fuel economy and towing capability, both of which they do better than the n/a V8. Yes, obviously a turbo v8 will pack more of a punch, but the v6 already packs enough of a punch for a truck while being much cheaper to purchase and cheaper to fuel up. Even the new Tundra is going to be twin turbo 6. That's the times, get used to it!
2016 F-150 reg cab 2x2..basic truck..power window/ cruz package..chrome/alloy wheels//2.7 ecoboost.. very happy with it.. good on gas..lots of power..I like it :0)
I have a travel trailer and the 3.5 manages the towing just fine. It has no problem handling elevation and steep grades. With no tow and in sport mode, the 3.5 is a beast.
5.0 money comes out of my bank account every month with no tears just smiles and I tow a 7200Ibs R.V. several times a year. My 21 XLT is the most amazing truck I've ever owned and lord knows there's been a bunch. From the early '70s, all makes shapes and sizes. Fantastic choice friend.
I bought a new Reg Cab in Jan with 3.3/6 spd trans/4×4/XL. Simple, quiet, decent power, 24mpg. I have had three 5.0's, one with the 10spd (terrible trans for me). Traded it back to a 2016 5.0/6 spd.
@@JVette01 That is why I got the 2020 6spd. All 2021's have a 10 spd. I did test a Frontier with the 310hp V6/9 spd before I got the F150. Really nice combo.
Why? My 2013 Ecoboost has never had a problem and I drive the living Hell out of it, including a lot of towing. No gas V8 I've ever owned(first truck was bought in 1993)has been this reliable. Turbos have been around for a very long time.
Having driven and towed a ton with all 3, overall choice of mine would be the 2.7. To me the tow ratings between the 2.7 and the 5.0 should be flipped. The 2.7 has a torque curve that kills the 5.0 and always seems to have the power on tap without having to mat it to the floor and rap the rpms out. It's also the best daily driving motor in my opinion it's fun and quick and also the fastest 0-60 of the 3 however down the line the other 2 are a tad faster. The 3.5 is a great truck as well just seen a lot of timing chain issues with them. The 5.0 is great when you want a good ole v8 sound but also has oil consumption issues. The 2.7 hasn't shown many issues as it was a purpose build engine not just a afterthought. Great review, just my opinion 👍🏻
My gen 3 in my 2018 was eating oil and i was doing oil consumption test once a week for it. The first tsb failed to fix it but the 2nd did 100%. The issue was they were using the wrong dipstick and we're actually over-filling the engine with oil forcing it through the pcv valve and i was burning it. They also remapped the throttle body so that it would stay open longer to prevent such a hard vacuum off full throttle. That issue was fixed and i still prefer my v-8 over an ecoboost. On the highway id be shocked if the 3.5 was faster since the 5.0 traps higher in the 1/4 but has a slower time. From a stop im sure both ecoboost would beat me but im not at all upset about the power. I dont have a mustang in the garage so this is as close to one as i get for a daily driver.
@Adam holland And that’s what most truck owners want, having torque down low in the power band to move things when towing. Not at 4000 rpm like the 5.0
I had the 2.7 for almost 5 years and went to the 5.0 for a change. The 2.7 was peppy and ran well but I did not like driving it in the rain. I live with a lot of hills and it rains quite frequently and it always broke traction even with not trying. Kind of a pain. I even had wild peaks on it. The 5.0 is more linear and I really don’t have that issue. I have two young kids so I don’t race around like I used to.
Also, anyone that have a previous gen to the new one. Did auto stop start get better tech or is it more seem less in the 5.0? I have noticed that among the two. Both are great choices for what ever you want in my experience.
@@redmist89I can see how that would be an issue, there's so much punch at a low rpm with the 2.7. I'll have to test out the auto start/stop and see if it's more seemless for 2021!
It has always been on. It didn’t get squirrelly or like that. Just the tire spin and and squealing. More of inconvenience to myself that I don’t like. Some people probably don’t mind it tho. Each is their own. I did have anything against the engine just preference is all. Also better piston ring seals which helps it seal and keep compression with added forced induction kits.

Yup when there was no v8 i lived without a pick up for a couple years. When i got rid of my raptor no v8 raptor no raptor. Now i have a 5.0 love it. I love the tremor but no v8 no tremor. The new raptor r is more than likley going to be sick priced. So i will stick with my 5.0 for now but i really want a tremor. I have owned 4 ecoboost and i am just not a big fan but the most funny thing is there is no fuel savings. My v8 expedition got the same mpg as the 2.3 eco i had in a car. BS
Haha I agree with you.. that’s why the joke is “eco or boost, not both” because they get horrible mileage when you have a lead foot, but decent if you drive conservative
@@tuppersdad I have owned the 5.0 and 3 3.5 ecoboost. The ecoboost is faster and more fun to drive, especially with the new 10 speed, but gets about the same gas mileage as the 5.0, until you hook a trailer to the back. Then the ecoboost gets terrible gas mileage. If you put a blower on the 5.0 now you have a truck that’s truly fun to drive. If they are both stock though I very much prefer the eco-boost. Just because it’s so much faster. The 2.7 ecoboost is actually faster 0-60 than the 5.0. Some truck channel on RUclips tested all 3 0-60 and quarter-mile. And the 5.0 came in last every time. I also own a 19 mustang GT with the 5.0 but it’s heavily modified. 930 rwhp and all I changed internally on the engine is the oil pump gears and crank shaft. No doubt the 5.0 is very very well built engine. Especially the gen 3.
I already knew which one you would pick before i finished the video lol. You simply can't beat a V8. Even though the ecoboost might be more efficient, can do more with less yada yada, if you're going to commute with a car, you might as well have it sound good. Plus soon we won't have V8's anymore. Whatever car you own right now with a V8, chances are the next generation is gone. Forever. So might as well find the newest V8 car/truck you can find, and keep it for a long time. because they'll be gone soon. I never been a pickup guy. But my commuter is an ecoboost explorer. How i wish ford had an option for the 5.0 in it cause i would've gotten that. When this lease is over, since you can't lease a mustang GT, i think i'm going for the F150 supercrew with the 5.0.

Just bought a 2016 Platinum F-150 with the 5.0L. I wanted the simplicity of the V8 rather than all the moving parts in the ecoboosts. I test drove the 5.0 and the 3.5 and can say that the ecoboost obviously got better mileage and felt peppier. But for me I always thought a full size pickup should come with a V8. It’s not a racecar. They sound better and don’t run as hot. Also my state is pretty flat and low in elevation so I didn’t need the added air that the turbos would provide on the 3.5 especially since I don’t tow often. Also the 5.0L’s literally last forever as long as you take care of them. Big upgrade from my 2006 F150 with the 5.4 Triton lol
Who in the world likes a column shifter, better than the radio knob but not much, the shifter on my Raptor and the gated shifter on my Titan are ABSOLUTELY my favorite thing for being able to control the vehicle.
Thx for the video. I've owned 2 of each of these engines over the last 6 years and they are all good. They are also all quick. 0-60 the 2.7 is the quickest. The 5.0 pulled the hardest up top until these 2021s bumped the 3.5 too 400hp and 500tq. The 3.5 is a monster from 0-100. Reliability and longevity? They put the 3.5 in the Ford GT so that should say something
That means that it can be tuned to put out lots of power, it doesn’t say anything about reliability. I’m a believer in taking care of your vehicle and it will take care of you.
I have a 2012 3.5 and I have NO Complaints! 115k on the clock and still runs like new! I LOVE the power! But I understand why some don’t like it. The Turbo power band (especially with my 6 speed) takes some getting used to.
@@JVette01 I get that! I just keep hearing people say that the 3.5 isn't as reliable, and that just isn't True! My neighbor had a RAM that he totaled and decided to try out an F150 with the 3.5TT engine. He LOVES the way it tows, but overall he doesn't like it! Turbo vs NA, BIG Difference in the way the power is delivered!
2013, 120K, not a single issue. The power band/torque curve was an adjustment at first after driving V8s for many years, but I love the different feel now and would never go back. I always compare it to a boosted European sports car instead of a typical V8 truck. The power's delivered right where you need it instead of having to rev the engine way up to reach peak torque and HP.
I’ve got a 5.0 and i love the way it just keep building power when you get on it. Yesterday I test drove a 3.5. I was surprised how fast it was. It didn’t give you the feeling that you’re going fast but when you looked down at the speedo you realized you were moving. It’s probably because when you’re driving the 50 you hear it working. It’s like when I was a kid and took the muffler off my Mustang it seemed faster. I’m torn though. Something about the quickness of the 3.5 I liked. I still haven’t drove 2.7 yet
3.5 has a ton of torque and torque is addicting. Gotta choose between the flavors. Both are great. Personally I’d skip the 3.5. If either stick with the 2.7l for fuel economy and plenty of torque. Or the 5.0 for the extra top end power and sound.

Does it burn oil?
Never took delivery. Ended up buying a Limited Powerboost. The truck I ordered in November just came in a few days ago (7 months later)

Not the 2021 anymore.... cylinder deactivation is bunk
Not by a long shot .. oil consumption issues to date . 3.5 twice the motor .
Oil dilution and, according to Scotty Kilmer, uneven cylinder wear too. Wanted NA and 5.0. Bummer! Not any more

I have a 2012 Ford F150 Fx4 Super Crew Cab with the 5.0L and 132,000 miles on it and I have had zero issues.
@@jdm1066 every video I’ve seen the 2.7 gets the advertised mpg or better, and the five oh gets less
Wild. My 2.7 gets 23mpg on highway.
"i don't know who's gonna keep the thing to 200K miles"
uhhh, people who don't have money to just keep replacing their vehicle all the time?
343,000 miles on my 2.7 ecoboost 2016 F150. It has been a great truck.

Wrong. The eco engine gets better mpg
@@paulhunter9613 I've got up to 25 mpg on my 21 5.0 F150. It really depends on your driving style and habit.
The eco twin turbos are way funnier to drive. The 5.0 is like driving a slug compared!!
Haha no. I love the 5.0 but there is no way it gets better mpg. That’s crazy sorry man no way.
The 5.0 w/column shifter gives me room for road hunting. The floor shift/console takes up space better served for leg room shotgun and other things.
I love how when you accelerate in the 5.0 or 3.5 the MPG goes down to zero.
Yeah 😂😂

Great to hear that you’re enjoying your truck!
I have the 2019 5.0 and absolutely no complaints. A truck needs a V-8 ! Eight out of ten Ford mechanics recomend the Coyote 5.0.🇺🇸
It’s a good engine for sure!
@@JVette01 By the way you made a great comparison! Very well done.😃🇺🇸
Appreciate that!
Where is this statistic from? Most mechanics I’ve spoken to and have seen online to recommend the 3.5.
A lot of mechanics are traditionalist “gear heads” the 3.5 is superior in every way on the 2021.

It’s tempting but I want to have respect for the future owner haha.
I have had my F 150 5.0L for 2 months already. I am impressed about the fuel economy. It is much better than I expected.
What is your fuel economy on your 5.0?

That’s great!
There is no replacement for displacement!! Many many years later and that is still true !
The replacement is turbos. Ford knows it. The 2.7 and 3.5 power the majority of F-150's sold today.
Put turbos or supercharger on 5.0 and you will blow away the gay 6 cyld lmao
@@Freakyfetus The turbo 6's were made for fuel economy and towing capability, both of which they do better than the n/a V8. Even the new Tundra is going to be twin turbo 6. That's the times, get used to it!

3.5 EcoBoost is the best for towing IMO!

I bought a new Reg Cab in Jan with 3.3/6 spd trans/4×4/XL. Simple, quiet, decent power, 24mpg. I have had three 5.0's, one with the 10spd (terrible trans for me). Traded it back to a 2016 5.0/6 spd.
I’m glad you are liking your truck! Consider test driving a 2021 truck, the trans is much smoother than 18-20 models in my experience.
@@JVette01 That is why I got the 2020 6spd. All 2021's have a 10 spd. I did test a Frontier with the 310hp V6/9 spd before I got the F150. Really nice combo.

@@JVette01 I agree! However the 5.0 seems like a better option if nicer engine sound is your concern.
The 2.7 is fantastic! I made a Pt. 2 video going over each engine and mentioned this!
My 50 V8 doesn't use oil ,and i have 31,000 mi on it. The 5.0 is the only way to go.
@Adam holland
And that’s what most truck owners want, having torque down low in the power band to move things when towing. Not at 4000 rpm like the 5.0
I swear that ford makes the best sounding v8
@@duke9620 i do agree
I can't imagine that the traction control system would let it get too squirrelly, unless you have it turned off.
It has always been on. It didn’t get squirrelly or like that. Just the tire spin and and squealing. More of inconvenience to myself that I don’t like. Some people probably don’t mind it tho. Each is their own. I did have anything against the engine just preference is all. I’m new with the 5.0 but I like the power band modulation better so far, you have to give it gas to get the power, the 2.7 is apply some gas, you got the power.

Haha I agree with you.. that’s why the joke is “eco or boost, not both” because they get horrible mileage when you have a lead foot, but decent if you drive conservative
I'm the opposite. I need a truck that can haul and tow. You sure you NEED a truck then?
That would be a good replacement! I wish they had a V8 option in the explorers too.
Also many threads say the ecoboost gets worse mpg than than 5.0 under load.
Can’t wait to get one! Going for the Xlt sport
That’s exciting! Which engine are you going with?
I have a 2018 xlt sport I really like it
Great choice!..I've got the older 2015 Scab XLT Sport w/2.7L & 302B pkg. It's the closest thing to my older 2006 Harley Edition that was a great truck. Shame that collaboration ended.
I’d be torn between my love of a v8 and my lust over the power of the PowerBoost 3.5...
It’s a difficult choice for sure but I love the feel and sound of the V8.
Scotty Kilmer says to stay away from the ecoBoost, they're going to have reliability issues down the road. The natural aspirated V8 is all you need and have proven to be the better engine longevity wise.
@@reachblowsdick7222 but we're unsure of reliability due to cylinder deactivation.
@@mmholling87 - His shop was in Houston Texas, my cousin had his 350Z worked on by Scotty 10 years ago and he still drives it today. Scotty moved to Tennessee. If you can prove Scotty is a fake, I'd like to see it. Until then, all you have is hearsay bullshit with no evidence who's pissed off at Scotty for bashing on your favorite car brand which is probably a piece of shit brand anyways.
@@mmholling87 - Where is your proof of Scotty. And he has talked about new high tech mechanics like magnetic suspension and electric cars. Like I said, unless you have actual evidence, you're all bullshit talk. You don't even talk about auto mechanics, Scotty talks about auto mechanics all the time. Show me where he talks about auto mechanics and is totally wrong and you're right. Scotty can talk all serious like a pro and sound like a total stick in the mud but then no one would listen or care just like all the other boring ass RUclips mechanics that are nowhere near Scotty's subs.
Also I know pro mechanics that buy their ASE plaque and hang it on their wall just to impress customers. Scotty is an award winner who hosted his own car show on CBS, that's seems to impress far more than a piece of ASE paper. For example, Dan Marino never won a super bowl, does that mean he's not a good quarter back? Anyone with 3 years experience can get an ASE paper, or they can just buy one and no one will know if it's certified or not. Also be careful with mechanics with ASE awards on their walls, they charge a hell of a lot more for average service because they think the ASE is a "charge as you will" award.
I prefer column shift.
I want to buy ford F150 2024 I need your advice to buy 5.0 V8 or buy 3.5 V6 turbo please help my
Drive them both and decide for yourself. 3.5 is technically better in terms of torque, towing, and mpg
3.5 twin turbo
Deffentially no comparison apples to oranges 3.5 is a beast and all around better engine .
I have a 2019 3.5 ecoboost f150. That v6 is no joke.
It really is a good engine! Stay tuned tomorrow when I come out with a follow-up video on this one
Who in the world likes a column shifter, better than the radio knob but not much, the shifter on my Raptor and the gated shifter on my Titan are ABSOLUTELY my favorite thing for being able to control the vehicle.
Different strokes for different folks! I like the console better too, but column is old school and some like old school.
I’m old... love the column shifter.
@@tinkertrek Fair enough and I respect that, for me there is nothing better than shifting both my Titan and Raptor when flying around in traffic.
As soon as he said he's not flooring it I was disappointed
Trust me, I want to. But I also respect the future owners and keeping my job ;)
@@JVette01 respect
I bought a 2018 f150 with the 5.0 l last month. Love it
Thx for the video.
@@JVette01 you're talking a half million dollar supercar. The 3.5 is obviously their go to engine.
Again, that shows that the 3.5 is very capable, not that it’s reliable. I do believe all F-150 engines are pretty good though.
@@JVette01 absolutely.
@@JVette01 yet no one knows of the reliability of the newer designed 5.0, it’s just perceived reliability at this time
I have a 2012 3.5 and I have NO Complaints! 115k on the clock and still runs like new! I LOVE the power! But I understand why some don’t like it. The Turbo power band (especially with my 6 speed) takes some getting used to.
I think people assume it’s not going to be as reliable as the V8 and they don’t like the way it sounds. I like all the engine but prefer the V8 feel.
Yeah that’s true.
I have 2 trucks with the v8 and just got the 2021 with the v6 turbo and it blows the v8 away. It drives like a mid-size suv.
The turbos are impressive!
