After owning f150s for the last 30 years I purchased a 2021 platinum powerboost with the 7.2 kWh generator That’s the best truck I ever owned, besides the 430hp and 570 lb-ft I can plug in my travel trailer while heading to the campground so it can be nice and cool when I get there,
Nice review. Love your enthusiasm. I bought a 2023 Powerboost Lariat a year ago this month. I absolutely love everything about it. We get power outages where I live on a regular basis. I have powered my whole house 3 times in the last year with my truck. No more dragging the 10k generator out of the garage and starting it in the cold and the dark. This is my third F150 supercrew. I had a 2001, 2011 and now a 2023. My wife is driving her third Expedition. She had a 1997, 2009 and now a 2024. I guess you can say we are in the Ford family forever.
Yah I bought mine to charge the batteries in my Walleye boat when I'm at remote lakes. Being able to fry pancakes and bacon on the tailgate with my electric frying pan is also very cool. 24 mpg in the city is also a no brainer..
I’ve only had my ‘24 XLT Powerboost for about 6 weeks and 3k miles, but I have fallen in love with it already. Pro Power Onboard, the mobile work surface, adaptive cruise control, 360 cameras, etc make this a big upgrade over my previous’20 3.5L.
Same here, brother. 2nd truck in over 20 years. Coming from a Dodge, and never thought I'd get anything else; but this thing is phenomenal. (And I also carry a duster...thought it was my idea!)
Nice review! I bought my first Powerboost in March 2022. I just sold that one to my son and I took delivery of my ‘24 Powerboost last week. My experience has been the same as yours; it’s been a fantastic truck and I can honestly say that after 45 yrs of buying and leasing trucks for business and personal use, the Powerboost stands out as the best. I look forward to the PHEV version of this HEV one day.
I could also see ford putting larger batteries in and decoupling the engine from the drivetrain and using it solely as a range extender, like RAM is doing.
My ‘21 lariat powerboost has been awesome. I’m only at 22k miles. Love the torque. According to the truck I’m averaging 20mpg. Texas freeways at 75-80 bring it down quite a bit. Had the transmission reset, replaced battery (due to very short daily commute), and fuel door latch replaced so far. I did buy the extended warranty as there are too many computers in this thing. 7.2 kW ran my house for 2 days after a hurricane. The pickup burned half a tank of gas in 38 hours. As far as I’m concerned nothing else on the market comes close.
After 3 Tundra’s bought a used 14 F150 Limited and have ‘loved’ this truck. Then a 19 Limited but out of Warranty and know cam phaser kick in gonads coming. Ordered a new Tremor w/402A and 5.0. Can’t wait !
Two days ago, I said the same thing about my 2021 powerboost. I have 66,000 miles, and I had a complete failure of the main battery underneath the driver-side rear seats. Accessible from under the truck. The truck will not start when this happens. You would think the truck could run off the gas alone, but nope. Dead in the water! When this happens, please make sure you know how to place the truck in neutral because the tow truck operator does not. The good news is that the battery electrical system is guaranteed to last for 8 years or 80000 miles. I consistently get around 18 mpg with 33" Generals on the milage issue. Scott, you are correct. Its a very cool ride, but when shxt happens, unless you have Ford diagnostic software, you are SOL and being towed.
I have the same truck except mine’s a silver 23 with the 5.0. You can’t go wrong with that hybrid, but man that V8 sounds so good, especially above 2500 rpm. Lack of horsepower and torque, yes, but with 3.73 gears she screams like a scolded cat and I love it! Great trucks no matter which engine you get. Nice video.
I've never really been a fan of Ford, but I can definitely see the advantages of their trucks. I really like the panel in the middle that can be used as a computer desk it's so convenient. I wish I had something like that. Great video!
I've had my 2022 Powerboost for 2 years this coming Christmas. I buy cars all of the time (almost every 2 years) and I still LOVE this truck. I love the space and the cool generator!
2.4 Kw and 7.2Kw are the 2 options for the powerboost Glad you’re getting a lot out of use from it 50k miles !, wish my 22’ tremor came with the powerboost. 24’ models get the 2.4Kw system now
I've just realized the F150 is going to have the best power train offered for 1/2 tons. I was just going for the ecboost but now I think it's smarter to go with the powerboost. Your video just helped seal that idea

The power boost f150 I test drove earlier this year was the fastest butterflies in my stomach stock truck I have ever driven! The torque was beast mode! My dad is 83 and hand built dragsters in the 50’s. Was so great to see the smile on his face as we test drive that day. I’ll always remember the look on his face looking through his eyebrows after that first take off. Love that power train. Torque was INSANE!!
I was hoping this was better mpg. My ecodiesel gets 27 hwy and my average is 21. Could see people in bigger cities this would be a better option. Great review esp adding in the tires. It's about rotating weight.
Yes! We have the power boost with the 2.4 kwh generator. We bought this in September this year and have decided to find another used one with the 7.2 kwh battery. We have used the generator so many times already its crazy.
Unfortunately, that won't ever happen in my opinion, because part of what people like about the Raptor is the loud growling engine. The Raptor in a hybrid would be silly.
My PowerBoost is a 2021 XLT and just turned 50,000 miles and like you I love it. I’ve had very few issues with it. It easily powers my camper for days at a time. The gas mileage is great for a full size truck. I keep the Wi-Fi plan so my grandkids love that they can get online. You did not mention the driver assist technology which I use constantly and really enjoy on short and long trips.
I have a 21 PB. Last week at 94k it would not start/run...Its been in the dealer for 5 days now....I love this truck..... I got the extended warranty, so I'm not concerned about the cost to fix it..The generator is awesome! Ive powered my house several times. If I decide to trade it ill get the same truck.
@scottmckenna very nice, and I like the fact the 3.5L motor uses both multi port and direct fuel injection to help clean the valves. Only Ford and Toyota's D4S fuel injection still system uses this method. Almost everyone else uses direct injection and I absolutely hate it.
How well does the hybrid system operate in winter and how much would it cost to replace the hybrid battery once it completely fails? What's the lifespan for the hybrid battery?
Ford should turn Western North Carolina's recovery into a showcase. There should be a Powerboost or Lightning in the driveway of every site being repaired or rebuilt.
The people who have been devastated by this flooding could shore use the help. This would be great if Ford would send help with these Trucks showing how versatile The F-150 Power Boost is.Ford couldn't ask for a better advertising opportunity and give greatly needed help to people that really needs it with winter coming fast.
I bought a 2024 power boost back in June. I just drove to Boston from Berkshire County in far western Mass. ~130 miles each way, about 70% highway at 65-70mph. I averaged 24.5mpg each way. I drive 60 miles each way several times a month to visit family. All secondary roads with speeds of 30-55mph. I'll get 28-29mpg (per This Trip) without trying. My previous vehicle was a 2020 F150 2.7 Ecoboost. It was a great truck, but 20-21mpg was the most I would get with highway driving. 18-20 was average "city" driving, and as low as 16 in the winter.
My 2015 3.5 Platinum seldom gets over 16mpg on a tank. Generally high 13s to high sixteens are my best. And I dont really know why, but I always got better mpg out in the mountains of CO. But anything in the 20+ range is amazing in my book.
I got a 22 Platinum Powerboost and absolutely love it! I’m curious what is the tire size you upgraded to (grabber size?) I been debating changing to Nitto or Falken all terrains for more beefy look.
It's more convenient than a cell phone hotspot. You're not killing your phone battery the whole time, or having to charge it. Also, some companies limit how much hotspot data can you use on your phone, where the Ford WiFI is unlimited data.
@ thanks. Back in the day, auto built in WiFi signal was much stronger than hand held phones. In recent years the reception seems to be the same in both. My GM’s were anyway. So I just wondered if it was stronger as there are many rural areas where my phone can’t get signal and neither can my GM trucks. They are the same. Can’t wait to test the f150 signal strength in the country. Just bought a 24 Power Boost F150 yesterday.
Have you experienced any water leaks? My 2019 lariat 2.7 is having the passenger floor get drenched in water. Looking online lots of people with all the engines and trim levels are experiencing this. Changing the hvac elbow didn't help and there is no water trailing from the rear vents against the backwall. Very disappointing and I'm considering a different brand for quality but the powerboost is very tempting to switch to.
Hey just to give you a heads up, take the California duster and throw it in the trash if you are using it on the exterior. I’m a detailer and they do in fact scratch/ mar your paint.
I've had mine for about 2 months now, even though most drives are about a 1/3rd in electric mode I still put the same amount of gas into this Power Boost a week as I did my 2014 Sierra with the 5.3. There is really no advantage to the hybrid version of this F-150 except for the generator feature.
@@xtcforyou9290 there are just as many videos/stories of guys with over 200,000 problem-free miles on them. Most people publicize their complaints…. seldom do they say when they’re happy with something. Human nature
@scottmckenna I have the 3.5 and after driving the 2.7 I think that motor has more acceleration. I do tow a 6000lb rv so I might notice some difference there, but a 2.7 hybrid would probably put out more torque that than standard 3.5 so I think the motors will probably even out when towing.
Hi Scott I enjoyed.your video. Can you tell me how big your camper is weight? I have been at looking at full size trucks but I don’t remember the capacity that it can tow. I’m looking at a camper that is 8-9k in weight, I doubt that I would add over 1k in weight to a camper. Thank you Al
I been driving mine for awhile now. I get 27mpg in eco mode on the freeway staying in 65-70mph. In the city I’m hitting around 23-24 mpg in eco mode. Standard mode really eats away your mpg
I tow a 21 foot fiberglass bass boat on a tandem axle trailer and it pulls it like it's not there. No issue. Plus I can charge my trolling motor batteries while I am driving up to the lake...Gamechanger!
Enjoyed the video. However. It’s 7200 kw. Or to be specific it’s 2 3600 kw’s. Also it’s 30 amp 110 on two 110 legs. That is different than 220. Thanks.
I've had my 2024 F150 xlt supercrew long bed powerboost for 5 months. Other than the darn truck acting like a nanny with infinite bells and alarms, I like this truck. I chose it for the features, especially the 7.2kw generator. I live in the Sierra Foothills. I average 19.5 mph overall. I'm not gonna see 24 mpg in the hills.
My friend spent a boat-load on his powerboost lariat and is getting 1mpg more on average than his 2022 v8 titan. 🤔 Even in this video, it appears your average is 18.1 mpg. Dealers saying “you’ll get 25-26mpg combined, easily” really annoys me.
Your driving habits definitely play a big factor for sure. Also, you get best MPG in city. Everywhere else, you won't see a drastic difference. One thing to note though is that one of the biggest perks of the Powerboost is the built in generator. Not just MPG.
The f150 thing is a religion, my 7500 watt home generator has no payments. On a bad winter ill use it maybe 6 times maybe 15 to 20 gals at most. The 3.5 motor has coking problems in the intake ports.the list of problems is huge on this truck is huge.
I wouldn't worry about it. Hybrid technology is like 2 decades old now, with Ford having built millions of hybrid vehicles. It's the most popular halfton on the market.
I'm not a Ford owner or hater, so the following is unbiased: I think an extended warranty for a high mileage Ford is probably wise, given the fact that they don't seem to go one billion miles without problems. I'd be willing to risk it on a high mileage Toyota but probably not a Ford. No hate, but just reality. I'd much rather buy the Ford truck over the other brands bc I think they really do have the sweet spot for giving most people the most stuff. But I would make some warranty choices to protect that investment as the truck ages Good luck!
I also own a powerboost, almost identical to yours just an XLT. It would have been nice if you had covered issues that you've encountered with it, but otherwise a very informative video that correlates with my experience and reasoning for owning one. 💪
@@scottmckenna That's fair. The shifting can be finicky at times, but otherwise I have not experienced anything negative either, other than the Pro Power Onboard erroring when below freezing. I'll be taking it in for that this winter when they can test it. Otherwise, as long as it remains reliable, I think it is the best truck on the market.
The hybrid will run a long time on the battery and only start as needed to recharge the battery. I used mine during a power outage in the summer to run a 10,000 btu A/C unit and a refrigerator / freezer. It used very little fuel vs my old portable generator constantly spinning away at 3,600 rpm. 😊
Not sure what way off is too you. When I do the math it's never more than 1mpg difference usually .5. I think you're just looking for a way to bash ford. In my other vehicles nissan toyota and chevy it's the same. At most 1mpg difference.
@@vr697getta Why would I bash them? I love the truck, but on a 36 Gallon Tank 1.5 to 2 mpg off is a pretty big amount of miles. Nothing like being in the middle of Wyoming and realizing you didn't have that extra 50 miles you rhought you had.
Insurance is more expensive. $180 more a year for me (I got quotes). The fuel tank is smaller, 6 gallons smaller. Also because they are relatively scarce (dealerships may have one on the entire lot and its probably the only one for 50 miles), you're going to pay more for it. Especially if they can sense you want it. Then pay up.
12,700 lbs is a lot of weight. I imagine anyone looking to tow more than that aren’t looking at an f150 regardless. That’s what I mean. You’re talking about a small difference than won’t matter to many people.
If you’re going to pull over 12,000 lbs you need to be looking at a 3/4 or ton. (F250 to F350) The F150 hybrid pulls hard under load no issues pulling a 10,000 lbs trailer. 👍👍
After owning f150s for the last 30 years I purchased a 2021 platinum powerboost with the 7.2 kWh generator

Mines a 23 lariat. And I love it. Traded off my 2024 tundra hybrid (junk)
Smart choice.
Thank you
Al
My camper is about 8,500. You’d have no problem towing 10k.
I been driving mine for awhile now. I get 27mpg in eco mode on the freeway staying in 65-70mph. In the city I’m hitting around 23-24 mpg in eco mode. Standard mode really eats away your mpg
Awesome.
How well does the powerboost tow? I am concerned about the payload Rating.
It’s fantastic at towing. So much power.
I tow a 21 foot fiberglass bass boat on a tandem axle trailer and it pulls it like it's not there. No issue. Plus I can charge my trolling motor batteries while I am driving up to the lake...Gamechanger!
@@mikej9619 It's an amazing truck for sure.
Do you ever pull heavy with it?
I’ve towed 10,000 lbs with it. No problem
I know people like to drive fast, but 65 mph on the highway is the sweet spot for the PowerBoost.
I’ve noticed that. I should try that here and there lol.
Great video
2:25 I thought the 9.2 is on the lightning? It
It is. That's why I put a text box that corrected it earlier.
@@scottmckenna I did not see that I apologize.
Enjoyed the video.
However. It’s 7200 kw. Or to be specific it’s 2 3600 kw’s.
Also it’s 30 amp 110 on two 110 legs. That is different than 220.
Thanks.
I understand. I mentioned that in many other videos. I said the wrong amount. I appreciate you watching though.
Great truck.
I have 2023 silverado 2.7L. Best i can get is 19mpg in the city and about 23mpg on the highway at 65mph
I've got an 21 crew cab lariat.. fully loaded.. 3.5 eco boost.. 14k on it so far.
Great trucks.
I average around 24 to 25 mpg in the summer. It drops in the winter 🥶 I am warming it up prior to leaving when the temp is below freezing.
Do the 360 cameras operate like how a Tesla does for security purposes?
No.
I love my 21 powerboost as well! But I've got 135,000kms and am starting to worry about owning such a complicated drivetrain without warranty...
But I would make some warranty choices to protect that investment as the truck ages
Good luck!
@jeffnordin108 Toyota are definitely reliable for sure. Haven’t had many issues with my fords either but Toyota has a great track record definitely.
Nice video
Glad you enjoyed it.
I thought the pro power was 7.2kw?
It is. I misspoke. The 9 kw model is on the lightning.
Good review, but too many commercials
If you're not a RUclips premium subscriber, unfortunately I don't decide on that side of things. Sorry about that.
Was this the truck you picked me up in? If so, I can certainly vouch for it.
Yes sir.
Can you power your house with a Hybrid Maverick? That's what I've been looking at.
Unfortunately no. It doesn’t have pro power features.
That decrease of mpg for the tires are not bad.
I agree
Ford needs a longer warranty.
i want to buy ford f 150 model 2024 we have tow engine V8 5.0letter and v6 3.5 letter i need your advice pleas iam in saudi
I'm not sure what your question is.
I also own a powerboost, almost identical to yours just an XLT. It would have been nice if you had covered issues that you've encountered with it, but otherwise a very informative video that correlates with my experience and reasoning for owning one. 💪
Honestly I didn’t cover anything because I’ve had zero issues with the truck. It’s been great so far.
Where do you live scott
I have a 2024 raptor and mine has the generator
The hybrid will run a long time on the battery and only start as needed to recharge the battery. I used mine during a power outage in the summer to run a 10,000 btu A/C unit and a refrigerator / freezer. It used very little fuel vs my old portable generator constantly spinning away at 3,600 rpm. 😊
My toyota tacoma i would get me 18 mpg on a good day so best upgrade ever
Nice choice.
I want to like the PB, but I've seen so many reported issues with this platform, i don't think i can trust it :(
I’ve had zero issues.
Zero issues for me too!😊
7.2 kw
Yes I said it wrong. That’s why I wrote the text on there
Also, dont trust the Ford mpg. Do the math when you fill up. Ford is generally way off (in a way that makes them look better).
Most companies are way off on predictions.
9.2??? You said you owned the truck 3 years! 🤨it’s a 7.2kw generator.
That's why I put that in the text. I mentioned that I said it wrong.
15 minute review and not a word about reliability? Also, it's a little hard to take an adult seriously when he refers to items as "this bad boy"
If I had reliability issues, don’t you think I would have mentioned that? The truck has been rock solid. Thanks for your kind comment.
Usually not any issues with a truck with 50K on it.
Keep sayin 9.2 kw and it’s 7.2 lol
Yes I know. That's why I put it in the initial text fix. My bad.
you lose towing capability. you cant tow as much as the other configurations. search fords towing chart.
Still junk 😂
Thank you.
Hahahahaha Ford,I heard they were losing 30 grand per truck?
I believe that’s true when it comes to the all electric lightning
That’s for the EV Lightning. Hahahahaha 🙄
