    My 2009 5.4 3v in real world driving is getting 20mpg hwy and 17 mpg combined. Its 320 hp and 390 ft lbs torque is all I’ve ever needed and easily towed a 6000 lb trailer from Alaska to the east coast. Paid off for 10 years now and still purring like the day I drove it off the lot it’s the engine I’ll be sticking with for years to come yet.

    I don't care how an engine sounds. l care about economy and reliability.
    I have a 2.7 with over 100,000 and it doesn't even use a quart of oil in 4000 miles. It gets 26 MPG @ 65 but you have to keep your foot out of it.
    The 2.7 was improved in 2018 by adding port injection but now they messed it up by rubber wet belt driving the oil pump. The newer 3.5 has a crank shaft driven oil pump but a timing chain driven water pump so if it pukes into the oil, you can get a fresh new engine. But not to worry, Ford put a weep hole that will drip showing it's time to change the water pump and retime the chain. Unfortunately they put it on the side of the engine covered by the alternator so you won't be bothered looking at the unsightly drip. I'm not sold on the $1100 electric brake booster when the old vacuum reservoir worked 80 years.

    • @MacPhee_Ford
      @MacPhee_Ford  5 месяцев назад +1

      The PowerBoost hybrid really shines with city driving. On the highway it is very comparable to the other engines. The stop and go traffic and city driving is where you see the difference where the electric power takes the initial acceleration and allows for the engine to be off. Once the truck is up to speed the engine can kick on and recharge the battery. Savings are roughly 5mpg more in the city with the hybrid comparing to the non-hybrid 3.5L EcoBoost engine.

    Amazing that Ford seemed to mute the V8 more then in the ecoboost V6 engines. I really think Ford is trying to phase the coyote motor out of the lineup as all the other truck manufacturers are going the Ford route with small displacement turbo charged engines. At least the natural aspirated V6 should prove worthy and the ones with the 5.0 V8. I'm not a fan of the complexity and high maintenance requirements for the ecoboost motors. Direct injection without port injection is a disaster waiting to happen. Happy to see Ford corrected this flaw at least on the newer vehicles with these motors. Unfortunately these trucks have become out of the commonsense individual hands with its overly inflated prices. The average truck is $50k and doesn't even have most options that are not that expensive to add into the already overly inflated priced standard list. Nickel and dime is the way as long as overly inflated ego showing balls hanging from the hitch Neanderthals keep spending that apparently easily obtained money. When will enough really be enough? Maybe they think paying all that money will make people on the job site think they must make good money 😛
