Wanted to tell your peeps, paper log books are for the BIRDS! While every driver should know how to fill one out and keep blanks on hand...there is a much simpler, cleaner solution that STILL allows for editing for creative log books.
Download a free copy (at least it used to be free) of BigRoad...app works on your phone, iPad, or internet browser. It is the BOMB.
I have been using it for almost 4 years...It took me a bit to get the "hang" of it...actually, I got a nice 1 on 1 tutorial from one of their employees who called me once he saw I downloaded the app...he took me step by step, answered ALL my questions and was available (still) to me any time.
If you use the version on phone or iPad, you can have it automatically trigger when you are driving versus not. I prefer to handle that myself.
No more pencil and ruler, no more eraser and white out! And, NO MISTAKES!!! The app is smart, it knows if you haven't completed something and warns you about it.
It keeps 14 days of logs, very easy to show DOT your log book...it automatically backs your logs up to their server, so, you can log in, download months worth of logs. I use it to figure out my IFTA along with the historical data in my GPS. It also keeps track of your running 70/60 hours...depending on what you run. Can be used under OTR, Canadian, Oil Fields or Short-haul rules!!!
I have impressed many DOT cops with how organized and simple it is. That, in part, is a HUGE plus when dealing with Johnny Law.
They offer a DVIR function as well, not that we really need them anymore, but, good to know its there in case laws change.
They also offer a ELD option for around $25 mo.
This is why I would prefer eld's, that would confuse the shit out of me for no telling how long, LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
