I like the older R500 better because of the smoother trigger. It uses oring, the newer uses a plastic bushing, doesnt feel smooth. They use the same needle set anyways.

Hey Pete! My first decent gun was a R500 variant with probably the best body they've produced to this day. THE Astro Evo4014/Star S-4000. The chrome has withstood the test of time, but the air cap won't win any contest for sure. The next best gun was the FLG5, and with enough time on it, the Astro has become a mere sealer gun. I have better than those two (Iwatas), but it really comes down to how you are able to get on with any of them. So far, the FLG5 is my favorite as I can easily bully it into a flat finish with minimal overspray and efficient paint use.
A bit long-winded, but meaning to say with all of these gun choices, the best gun is one that you're most comfortable with in getting the finish desired as there is an acme between minimal quality and diminishing returns of more expensive for a person's skill set.
    Another great video, Pete.

    • @peteshobbies5383
      @peteshobbies5383  2 месяца назад +1

Hi Mate, You are 100% correct, confidence is key to getting good results and if you get on with a certain gun your on your way, a poor gun in a confident person's hands is much better than the most expensive gun in a nervous person's hands.
The quality or price of gun is secondary to the feedback it gives the painter, if you like it , it'll give you confidence and so the circle continues, than for the comments buddy, always much appreciated 👍

Hi Pete hope you are ok mate, another interesting video and I have to say that the YT160 does look a nice gun as from what I can see it seems to be well finished with a nice coating as it looks better than my RongPeng branded R500👌
As you mentioned all these guns spray the same and they do a good job for the price, IMO they lay the basecoat on really nice but it's not quite as good when it comes to the clearcoat well that was what I found with mine, it's also a really good WoW primer gun💪
The tank came out really nice mate and this gun would be ideal for a diy or beginner as it's good value👌👍

Hi John, Thanks, mate. It was quite evident when I used this gun. What a difference there is between the better guns and these is, coming from 3 different top line Porphis guns to this, it was quite notable.

Yeah they have their place and are ideal if you are just starting out as a diy/hobby painter and don't want to spend much on your first gun just in case it doesn't work out but once you have a few higher end guns I don't think the R500 family would be your first choice🤔😁cheers Pete and sorry for the late reply as I never get any notifications of new comments🙄🤦‍♂😅

I've tried to explain to him all sprayguns aren't the same so i've loaned him my Walcom and see if he gets better results but as we know sometimes its not the gun its the user . Also i've tried too explain the process but he has is own thoughts on that lol , i've been painting for 47 years what do i know . The better guns certainly make it easier, so it'll be interesting to hear how your mate gets on.
I'm very impressed with the Porphis guns, especially the 717 and 715, most of them to be honest, for the money they are a bit of a bargain 😀

Hi Paul, it's difficult to say, really, are you making your own decals or buying them in?

I don't work to a per hour rate, but many do. It also depends if you know the people, mate's rates,
      and all that.
I only do friends, friends of friends, etc, but a fairly straightforward job, tank, and side panels around 400 GBP would what most people would expect to pay, more if the tank needs sealing on the inside

@mark7218 it's all about making a coating even, so getting the same amount of paint, more or less everywhere, so if you are hovering over the edges for to long you will get a build up.
On bonnets, I go off the edge, release the trigger, and start again just before reaching the panel again, that way it's nice and even.
One thing with bonnets that are flat is it's possible to overload the panel and get away without runs, because the panel is flat, but you will end up with thicker edges
