    Great video as always Pete. Better than lph400 is a very high recognization. I haven't found one for sale in my place, only 715 here. Hope I can get one later and compare it to my lph101.

      @peteshobbies5383  2 месяца назад +1

      Hi Su, Yes, I do realise that's quite a thing to say, but I do believe it's true.
      The 715 is a great gun as well, quite different from the 717, and you can convert one to the other with just a tip set.
      Porphis now has a retail website, so you should be able to order one if you want. There's a link in the description.
      The LPH101 is a smaller gun, so this PRD717 will seem faster as it's a full-size gun, but I think you'll find it as good,
      I don't have an LPH101, but I have an LPH300, which is effectively a top cup LPH101 and that's a little gem. Cheers, buddy 👍

      Hi mate, I was surprised that this was not a WS400 type competitor, I say that because of the split tip of course, but, it's so much more, it's definitely taking on the LPH400/Wider4L, and, it wins convincingly.
      I'm well happy with it, and, the build quality is as good as the big boys, cheers buddy, good to hear you enjoy the videos 👍

      @Rikats15 What don't you like about the LPH400? Just curious. I've been using it more and more and I really like it. Curious what others think. It is a little slow at low pressure but it speeds up if you bump it up. Defeats the purpose of a low pressure gun but it's an option and it sprays really fine

    • @peteshobbies5383
      @peteshobbies5383  2 месяца назад +1

      @MarcBchannel I would agree, I like the Iwata split tip guns, especially the LPH400 & and Wider4L, because you can use them at a lower pressure.
      I think people sometimes get a little wound up with them as you often use them at a higher pressure than they were designed for. I don't think they were designed to go as low as 16psi, but emissions legislation made that the level needed to pass.
      The Porphis is definitely, imo, better than both the Iwatas as the same pressures, so very rewarding to use, cheers mate 👍

    I love the blue Porphis 715 i got for speeding up my clear coat application for jobs my dv1-c is too slow for. I need to get a new 1.8mm primer gun and was going to get an iwata wider 4 but may go with a porphis prd-51 1.8mm since i like the 715 so much. Still can't get over how wide the fan goes out to and how fine the atomization of clear coat is with prd-715

    Hi Pete, that looks a cracking gun mate and I had to read it twice when you put the air pressure settings on the screen I couldn't believe the gun only needed 1.1 bar for base and 1.3 bar for clear😲that's crazy😅 but it laid the base and the clear perfectly👌
    I was going to ask you if the tip needs to line up the same as the WS400 but you mentioned that at the end, so why is it so important to have the tip lined up on the WS400 but not with this gun🤔is it purely just down to the low air pressure or does the aircap affect it as well🤔
    Great video as always mate and that tank looked amazing with a nice colour and the finish from the clear is spot on👌cheers Pete👍

    • @peteshobbies5383
      @peteshobbies5383  2 месяца назад +1

      Hi John, I'm unsure as to why the WS400 is so peculiar. It's definitely has something to do with pressure, but also, the design of the tip, the LS400, and WS400 OBS don't suffer from the same problems so it a combination of the tip and cap.
      It seems not to matter with the Porphis, I suspect, because it needs a lower pressure. The PRD717 was an absolute joy to use. It really does do a better job than the Wider4L and LPH400.
      It's so different to the PRD715, which, as you'll know, is very good, you can convert one to the other to give you the best of both worlds, so you end up with the equivalent to a Sata 5000 RP and the LPH400 all in one package, really good, cheers mate 👍

  • @bosshawg7427
    @bosshawg7427 2 месяца назад +1

    Superb fan and atomization, Pete. Since there's no need to turn up the pressure, unlike the LPH400 what do you think the actual air consumption is? If it is reasonable, say 10 cfm, I can still see it being used at home with most budget 60 gallon compressors that possibly can reach 11-12 cfm at 20 psi. The low overspray is probably going to be the main allure for those at home as the LPH still puts out a but of overspray when cranked up, although not as much as a RP gun.

    • @peteshobbies5383
      @peteshobbies5383  2 месяца назад

      Hi Boss, I'm guessing, as I used them here, for basecoat at 16psi around 10cfm, for clear, I used it at 19psi, so I'm guessing around 11.5cfm.
      It's certainly no more than the LPH400/Wider4L, but I know people at home struggle with those, having said that the performance of the 717 is better at the same pressures so people will get improved results for the same air consumption which would help I guess, cheers mate 👍

  • @brooks.5849
    @brooks.5849 2 месяца назад +2

    HI Pete, Great video!. This gun is really growing on me after watching it on your channel
    some others. Im leaning towards the 717 with the split tip. Its not fair on Iwata
    that they are copying their hard earned research and development but i guess that
    how it is. But which gun do you prefer between the Porphis 717 vs wp99 ?

    • @peteshobbies5383
      @peteshobbies5383  2 месяца назад

      The PRD717 runs at a lower pressure than the WP99VG, so they are different, I guess I would have the PRD717 as it superbly balanced, and you can convert it to the power house that is the PRD715, best of both worlds 😁

    • @brooks.5849
      @brooks.5849 2 месяца назад +1

      Gotcha. I was leaning toward that as well. Im wondering does the 717 have a baffel or seal on the fluid tip or is it metal on metal like most Iwatas? For me longevity is a factor when buying guns upwards of 200$. I'm already replacing a packing gland on my Pro lite after a limited usage of it. I store it with a little bit of thinner in the gun, Maybe thats the reason is went bad so soon. Cheers@@peteshobbies5383

    • @peteshobbies5383
      @peteshobbies5383  2 месяца назад

      @brooks.5849 Yeah, that is the pro lite weak spot. Regular changing of that white gasket is needed.
      This has an anodized aluminium baffle, so it just distributes the air, it not the sealing point, the sealing point on these in a nylon ring, like Sata has, it's made of a type of plastic, I was told but can't remember, certainly my 715 that I've had for 8 months has been fine, you can get spare parts for them if needed
      The video below from around 5min shows the baffle and sealing ring, cheers, buddy 👍

      Hi mate, the ones you see in the video are only cheap ones off eBay. They are fine for what I do, I mix my own paint, and they work ok for that as well.
      I have a much more expensive set that is super accurate and plugs in a pc but I don't use them anymore, they take up loads of space with the pc as well and don't seem to do a better job than the cheap set.
      My cheap set only goes to 500g, so it is not good for big quantities, but I have another cheap set that goes to 2kg if needed.

For the first 14 months the ego190 sprayed cerakote with 0.7mm and spraying base and clear with the 1.0mm cap set and 1.2mm sprayed better than any mini i ever used. A little better than the dv1s for cerakote however i cant speak for base or clear because my dv1s is the 0.7mm/0.9mm with micro cap. I would need the bigger cap, and nozzle to say for paint and clear. Problem with the ego190 as well as my two genesi 360 light guns is they didn't last past 15 months. Which upset me seeing how the ego was $500, and both genesi 360 lights were $900 each

      I think the Porphis is around the same, Porphis quotes 15.2cfm, but I think that's at 29psi (2 bar) , certainly using them together I don't notice any difference in air consumption, but performance is better at the same pressures which is obviously a plus point, cheers mate 👍

      I have a couple of people that do up certain bikes, so yes, often it will be the same, but not if that makes sense.
      I like doing comparison videos, so I think for that, and experimenting ,the tank or fender set is ideal as it keeps everything the same except the gun, that way people can see it one gun is faster than the other as they are covering the same area.
      To answer your question, the ones that get done over and over again are just that, there is probably 20 layers on there, not what you want on things that matter but fine for the purposes that we need them for.
      A while ago, one of my big sets fell over, and a big chip came out where it hit the concrete floor, so I had to take them back to metal, that I do by sander with 40grit discs on a big Metabo sander, not the Metabo Deros sanders I have as they take ages but a much heavier one, makes the job easier.
      Sorry for such a long answer 😅, good to hear you like the videos, cheers, mate 👍

    • @peteshobbies5383
      @peteshobbies5383  2 месяца назад +1

      Hi Mate, It's not as bad as it sounds, the quoted CFM of 15.2 is I'm sure at 29 psi, as I was saying in the video, you don't need anything like that to get excellent results, it's on a par air consumption wise with the LPH400 and Wider4L, but better results.
      However, you would still need around 11cfm to get results from the PRD717, but, to be fair, that's no different to the Tekna Devilbiss Pro Lite with the TE20 cap or most other full size gun's.
      The choice for low air consumption isn't particularly wide. You have the Chinese R500/A610/YT160 type guns, and they need around 8cfm, the Anest Iwata W400 Bellaria, or Kiwami4 uses around the same, the Tekna Gti Pro Lite TE10 combination is lower than the TE20 but you will still need 10.5cfm.
      Have you thought of a mini gun?

      Hi Angus, You are probably going to struggle with this. If you keep the pressure down, as I used it in this video, I'm guessing it uses around 11cfm for the clear coat stage. Some will want to use a little more, so your compressor will always be playing catch up.
