First of all this is a tough thing to do. Crest great trees that work for 2 specs and sometimes 2 roles.
But these trees make it feel like some classes have brilliant devs who know their spec to a high level. And other classes don’t have a dev at all.
The typical classes who get no love and just get these 3% aura buffs every 4 months get the same treatment on hero trees as well.

@@burkles4456 Fair enough. Why do you think there is such a big difference in their approach to specs?
It is a bit sad for those specs, who aren’t relevant, not getting any attention other than “oh this spec isn’t doing to well…3% for you sir”. Not addressing the glaring problem these specs have.

My favorite Newb Moment was actually my best friend. He was new to MMOs, and made himself an Undead Warrior. He get to level 8 or so and next time I see him he's like, "Man why is this game so hard? Everything takes so long to kill I end up dying half the time." I think to myself hmmm, this aint Everquest, nothing should be giving him trouble this early. So we meet up to have a little LAN WoW party, and I see him fighting a mob, and he's doing pitiful damage and getting absolutely chunked. I ask to look at his character, and he's never replaced a single item. He's still using the lvl 1 starting weapon, starting armor, only upgrades he had over a fresh toon was whatever auto-equipped from being empty. I look in his bags and they are full of gear from quests/drops. I died laughing.

I'd be okay with it as someone that plays both specs but the additional pet is gonna hit like a wet noodle (like 5-10% of the primary pet's damage, so nothing) and I doubt that generates much excitement. Otherwise, it's broken for BM and survival gets nothing unless their autos attacks can be unsynced which is unlikely.

dont forget that AC gives an -35% pet dmg aura that is still fucking with how all other pet and mercenary interactions works...
If we got another pet from pack talents, then AC would be the first thing to be deselected by pure numbers, as you would lose 1/3 of the "theoretical dmg blizz wanted you to have".
And there is one thing we know for sure about blizz, and that is that they have no hunter dev, and all the devs hate, or forgot the class exist. And they will never admit they have ever made a mistake

I created a tauren warrior, and i didnt know i was supposed to use abilities on the spell bar. I thought if i clicked fast enough, my char will attack faster. «Podcast every week until they fix defensives!” 😆 - As a gamer-dad healer player I’d subscribe to that instantaneously! 😆… also.. reading through the Farseer hero talents made me put playing resto shaman at the very bottom of my todo-list. Evoker Hero talents look sick! Now they just need to get rid of Aug Evoker so I can bump Preservation up on the list! The way it’s looking now I’ll be staying on Holy Pala and Resto Druid going into S4.

For farseer literally all they have to do to fix it, is the bottom node needs to be. During ancestral guidance lava burst and riptide have a 100% chance to summon an ancestor.
This would makr that button feel good, make the extra charges worth while and give them a different damage/healing profile.
All this while also tying the ability with the literal name that fits the theme of ancestors to boot.

I feel obligated to share an embarrassing wow moment now. Back at the start of the pandemic, one of my friends got me and our friend group into classic wow. I rolled a warrior to tank because nobody else wanted to do it. I found charge to be a lot to fun and would charge into every pull as a result. Because of this, I never really used my ranged weapon, and honesty forgot I even had one.
This all came to a head when, during ZF, I kept pulling extra packs by charging in. Our shaman friend made me stand in the back with the ranged and "practice using my ranged wep" while he tanked the dungeon after wipe 5.

It might sound weird but I wish more content creator would consider more the fact that this is the second evergreen feature we have in forever.
I enjoy what hero talents are shaping up to be and I'm even more excited to have more trees introduced in the future opening up more and more choices for each spec. I think that's the most exciting part because the Devs can add new ideas to a spec without necessarily retiring everything they did just before.
It's a simple but cool system and it gets me excited for the future of the game as a whole way more than covenant, azerite gear or artifact weapon did before.

To be clear, hero talents are only confirmed as sticking around until at least The Last Titan expansion while the talent trees are actually evergreen. I do agree that having more trees to pick from as the game goes forward would be really fun especially if they have unique visuals or even transmogs that pair well with the themes.

    • @sombrego2260
      @sombrego2260 3 месяца назад

@@needsanameedit4982 you're right but nothing is confirmed lasting forever anyway. Look at talent trees and how much they've changed again and again since Classic.
Something is evergreen until the community yells enough for the Devs to change it.
But at least on paper it's not meant to settle destruct like everything from legion until Shadowlands did which is very refreshing
It's also funny how they are doing what Guild wars 2 tried to do with elite specs but ends up doing it way better than them years after in a game that never planned to have such a concept in the first place.

A comment on Dorkis perspective regarding druids shapeshifting I feel its more due to how fast paced raid fights have become. I was playing Feral druid back in TBC and there it was really good for offtanking. But then the fights also allowed for it. The main warrior tank would start with threat and me as a druid in cat and you had a dps window of atleast 30 seconds before going in to bear and taunt swapping with the exception of a few multiple target fights. Now you gotta taunt swap almost every 10-20 seconds and the offtank often take alot of dmg not letting you be cat for offtank moments.

53:00 - "are we just phasing out healers entirely" preach my friend.
This is the worst it's ever felt to heal, especially as a Holy paladin. At higher levels of play all of the damage is raid/party wide dots or one shots that can be avoided. Tanks are self sufficient and single target burst healing is dead, HoTs are king. Feels like the only reason H.pal sees play is utility with defensive devo aura.

Cats and resto shift a lot. Cat moon kin weaves when they’re pooling energy. Resto obviously shifts to cat when damage isn’t happening. Bears only really shift in raid when the other tank has aggro. Boomy and bear could probably use more of a reason to change, especially in M+.
I’m a natty kicker. The only time I use a focus macro is on protectors in eb on my rdps.

My hot take since they announced hero talents has been trees should not be shared. It's a balancing nightmare, especially for dissimilar specs like Healer/Tank, and the mental exercises to make every node on a tree good mechanically and thematically for both is exhausting. Ex. WW/BM
Each spec should have unique hero talent trees where their spec is primary focus and the off spec is secondary with shared themes/skills.
    My example was Holy Paladin:
    Lightbearer - Holy/Prot
    Lightbringer - Prot/Holy
Herald of the Sun - Holy/Ret
Harbinger of the Sun - Ret/Holy
I also think this allows more fluid organization of hero trees to increase accessibility and comprehension for players.
The center column - Semi-unique shared nodes. Focused on the thematic skill that both specs use, with minor tweaks to prioritize the role/playstyle of the main spec.
Left column nodes - Shared skills/passive nodes.
Right column nodes - Completely nodes unique to the main spec.

  • @Trashloot

My biggest problem with hero talents is that it will be even more complicated to find out where your damage comes from and which talent setup gives you the best output.
I know this is an unpopular opinion but i like the old (mop onwards) talent trees more. With those you could pick what felt good and you were (probably) on the the money. With the new talent trees i feel like i need to look up which talents to use or use tools to have it calculated. And hero talents make this even more complicated.
I just can't grasp all those small little power boosts and get a full picture of the situation by just looking at it.
It feels a bit like when reforging was still in the game. But this time no one complains that you need tools to find your optimal setup. But maybe im just getting worse and everyone else can pick their talent loadouts with ease. It just doesn't feel good to me that there is this part of the game which i can't understand (fully) on my own.

Regarding the discussion on mages having some wild theorycrafters, great feedback, and a council: genuinely wonder if a lot of that also comes from the fact that mages are essentially always strong. Just one of those classes where someone could've clicked the little mage icon back in vanilla and cruised through to modern WoW without ever considering a reroll. There's a pretty huge amount of spec loyalty and knowledge that builds up when you've got players that've managed to be "die hards" without following the typical definition of a "die hard" (Never swapping, regardless of tuning) cause there's never a tuning reason TO swap.

Keeper of the grove is fine with some treants vibes but give us more stuff like mushrooms and other nature themes. Also light smith sounds more like you should just be empowering your weapons to deal damage rather than handing out weapons maybe just do a rework on both rather than start from scratch

I think the issue for Trickster for me (and I know this is a nooby complaint, but w/e) isn't that feint is going from a defensive skill to one that needs to be in the rotation, but I think it is more that this is just another button (not even counting the idea of distract being a burst CD of some sort) to be added to an already bloated DPS rotation. Outlaw rogue already has literally 13 buttons in their rotation. Adding feint and distract just adds 2 new buttons to that rotation. For all the talk about button bloat being primarily centered on defensives, this is rotational button bloat for a class that doesn't need any more buttons.
I do like the idea of feint being a DPS CD, it makes some talents that would otherwise be mediocre or ok, and turns them into being a lot better because of how they interact with feint. But when we are getting a new DPS button without any reduction to the current DPS button count, it feels like the message of the button bloat problem isn't really getting there.

I think Hero talents are a great way to expand upon class fantasy without forcing it down players throats. Perfect example is Keeper of the grove. If you love the whole nature boy summoning trees style of Druid, then keeper of the grove is right up your alley. If you don’t like that, then wild stalker is there and you just get more procs.
The main issue that I have noticed is that not all classes have established popular hero lore to build on. Warcraft 3 hero’s are obviously going to make a lot of sense to add as hero talent options, but what about other classes that might not have much to work with like monk? Their trees are going to feel bland.
Another example is Pack Leader. A lot of hunters think pack leader sucks because it’s boring and doesn’t really add much. But how do you make a BM hunter feel more Pack leader than it already is? Not easy.
I think the system overall is fantastic but they need to put the work in to make some of them a lot better. Farseer is a huge disappointment because shaman have a ton of lore to work from but they still came up with a boring tree. It should have been called spirit walker.

With the potential name change, I think maybe making it something that evokes Warcraft and evokes skilled players who are a bit above the rest - maybe something like Titanforging that old system. =P (Too soon? Gonna miss that one)
But seriously, I think a name change is probably good? "The PoddyC" is kind of about who knows as opposed to a more targeted name. But I don't have a suggestion beyond "Two Men and a Cat Talk Warcraft".

The two things I want from hero talents are: cool class fantasy and leveling the required skill input for specs. So specs that typically offer lower skill floors get tools to make them more engaging for those who want something harder, and specs that are usually harder get tools to make playing them easier for those who want a more chill experience.
I don’t want hero talents to save specs or fix core issues. That needs to happen in the main talent trees.

So while I agree defensive creep is a thing . I really came to this idea when Dorki brought up the EB boss. He references a 26 tyran hard hitting boss, that’s 6 levels higher than what blizz tunes the dungeons for. They tune for 20s and everything after that is usually open season. I feel the defensives are there to give you a chance to 1. Do harder content and push further, 2. Provide a level of skill to your class. Staying alive is definitely a skill . Playing Classic I definitely don’t like knowing if my healer fucks up im just fucked. But there is a in between

You can definitely tell that most Shaman players are from post wrath and cataclysm where emphasis on the spirits hasn't really been a thing for a while. Otherwise I don't know what they were expecting from a tree called 'Farseer'. Most of the complaints were wanting to turn the ancestor into an elemental which I'm not totally against myself, but they did pretty much nail the theme. It's just that modern players lack a fundamental understanding of what a WoW Shaman is.
That being said, my biggest complaint with the tree is being tied to unleash life which I don't even remember the last time I talented into since I primarily do M+.

These hero talents are missing some old school class fantasy for me take the Warcraft 3 hero classes Farseer and Spellbrakers. They had unique weapons, unique abilities. Imagine a Paladin that directly deals with fighting magic. There could be resistances, magic offensive and defensive interactions... Farseers should focus on fadign in and of reality, calling spirits there is so much already here that has not been touched.

I think Blizz see's UH's niche as the bursty CD spec, so leaning into it with ROTA makes sense. The cool thing however is they can make the Deathmark/Scythe hero tree less bursty and more sustained as an alternative.

As long as the Hero talents are cool and enjoyable to play I don't care if they're perfectly balanced or not tbh. Just like I don't care about all the balance whining of "my spec is not top DPS buff it and nerf this". "Top end players" and people who think they are or should be will always pick the most optimal thing, even if it's only better by the tiniest margin. You cannot change that, it's how gaming works. Balance complaints in these games always lead to homogenization because the only way for classes to truly be "balanced" is if they're all more or less the same. And homogenization is what kills enjoyment in these games (take it from a year long FF14 player who switched to WoW).
Seriously be glad that you have a game with diverse classes that do different things and devs that are willing to cook and put new ideas out there. It's way more valuable than you think and you don't know what you got till it's gone.
