Wound smells are the worst!!! Gave a shower to a patient with gangrene and I couldn't breathe plus the shower room was like 90 degrees and I nearly passed out from the moist stench LOL

I start nursing school in September and took Anatomy and Physiology 1&2 already online so as to ease the workload at the beginning especially because I have 3 kids under 6.

Same! I'm studying to be a CNA, then going to nursing school following that. I, too, have 3 children under the age of 6 and have to make this as easy as possible.
Honestly, when I did my clinicals for CNA last year, I almost DIED when I walked into a room where a patient had a blow out... we're talking....B L O W O U T! ...It was all I could do to not projectile right there! smells freak me out.. as well as mucous and sputum..I don't now how I will deal with it... and puke.. lets just not go there. lol... I'll have to mind over matter it and get some vicks! :") I start my first quarter of nursing school this september!

Leaving a bowl of clean dried coffee grounds in a room with a bad smell (like a blow out) will completely neutralize the smell. Coffee grounds absorb odors.

This makes me feel so much better... I can't deal with vomit and I always think to myself I shouldn't be a nurse because of this. I'm so glad you put that myth on here!!! And that you can't work... I'm an older nursing student so I don't have a choice but to work and all my professors say I shouldn't. But that was super helpful.

In my CNA rotation, I had a pt pass gas while I was holding a urinal up to him. I rubbed scented lotion on my upper lip and it worked great!

Nikki Tumaliuan Use your book online resources. Go over power points and don't cram. Know what tests carry what weight of grade and focus on those more if you have to.

I can do everything except large amounts of vomit a little bit is OK or if it’s a kid it doesn’t bother me it’s large amounts. I can do colostomy bags and be knee-deep in shit all day but If a grown man vomits on me I will go into a supply or break room and have a nervous break down .
I kind of feel like if you use vicks under your nose that that'll trap the poo/wound particles there until you wipe it off, so i prefer to go without lol

It’s 2-4 years depending if you’re going the ADN route or BSN route.

I'm a male nurse in a trauma unit and I'm embarrassed when I see videos like this.
jtl909, what's embarrassing about this? I'd be more embarrassed by that fragile male ego you're carrying around 🙄
I think your use of a childish eye roll emoji sums up why I find videos like this cringy. A lot of nurses right now are going through a period where they're fighting for the profession to be taken as seriously as other more "serious" members of the healthcare team. For instance, NPs are trying to increase their scope of practice but one thing that is constantly thrown in their faces is that nursing school isn't academically rigorous enough because they are more concerned with appearances and dogma than they are serious health science and the well-being of patients (gotta make sure you're seen in that white coat with your hair and nails done!). Now, I understand fully well that nursing school isn't med school, but believe me when I say that med students see "icky poo poo!" videos like this and laugh. And I don't blame them because they perpetuate negative stereotypes of nurses.
I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume your initial reaction was to go for the "fragile male ego" comment because it was an easy insinuation to throw out there and I really didn't leave much in the way of constructive commentary in the first place. But what I'm saying has absolutely zero to do with ego. It has everything to do with my respect for the profession and my desire to see it taken more seriously.
Look....I know I'm not the audience for videos like this. It just popped up in my feed for some unknown reason and I felt the need to leave a negative comment. Next time YT suggests a video from another nursing student with a vanity project I'll just keep moving and keep my mouth shut.

jtl909 do you have any recommendations for videos to watch or articles to read in regards to what you wrote? I'm going to be starting nursing school soon and I'm in it for the healthcare so it's worrying that there's such an emphasis on vanity, etc. thank you!
Hey bro, I am a dude also but I am a foreign trained MD with 3+ years of primary care experience and 6 years of trauma/emergency medicine experience. However, I was not able to get a residency training position in the US and my past experience has no real value in this country. I’ve been trying for the past 4.5 years for residency. Totally sucks for me. However, I am reinventing myself as a nurse. I’m taking my prerequisites for nursing school and taking the TEAS exam next month. I look forward to joining you all in the nursing profession. My goal is to become an acute care NP 👍🏼 Studying nursing with my gf made me realize the similarities between medicine and nursing, as well as the very obvious differences. My gf was in nursing school getting her BSN and I was her tutor throughout her program. The USMLE and the NCLEX are very different exams in terms of depth of knowledge and scope of practice. However, I have not looked at any NP level licensing exam material. I feel confident that I will succeed in nursing school. Just not looking forward to all those writing assignments hahaha. But everything else is cool 👍🏼
