A Bengal is a cross between a domestic cat and an Asian Leopard cat, and deciding to have a Bengal should not be taken lightly.
    *
Bengals are a highly active and athletic, and their intense level of energy can only be managed by experienced and competent owners.
    *
They are excellent hunters. Only generations away from the wild Asian Leopard cat, Bengals are particularly ferocious in play and in the hunt. The Bengal breed will astonish even owners of other energetic cat breeds with their inherent speed and agility.
    *
Bengals have the ability to leap to high places, and are instinctually compelled to climb at every opportunity.
    *
They will instinctively seek out high places in which to hide or rest. If you are having trouble finding your Bengal, be sure to check the tops of cupboards, high shelves, or any other elevated surface.
    *
Unlike other cats, Bengals are intensely drawn to water. Don't be surprised if they choose to join you in the bath or shower, or if they quickly learn how to turn on taps or flush the toilet.
    *
Bengals are much smarter than domestic cats, so they require MUCH more supervision. You may be having trouble completing your PHD, but your Bengal is likely to be born with one.
    *
Bengals are known to spend much less time grooming than other cats. This may be due to their energetic lifestyle. There is less time to groom when you are running wild through the house.
    *
Like any wild animal, your Bengal may be very hard to handle or approach. Your Bengal may hide or avoid you for days, weeks, or even months before allowing you to approach and interact with it. This is surely related to the shy habits of all wild cats, such as Tigers, Lynx or Mountain Lions.
    *
To keep your Bengal from scratching and destroying your furniture, be sure to provide suitable scratching surfaces, like the cardboard scratching surfaces available at many pet stores. Your Bengal will naturally know what the item is for and you will save the other items in your house from wear and tear.
    *
A Bengal that has been provided with an appropriate level of active play and suitable alternative scratching surfaces will have no interest in attacking your expensive furniture.
    *
Like many other cats, Bengals are prone to the Zoomies, and will randomly burst into an alarmingly intense level of activity; but in the case of Bengals, the level of activity is so intense that it may become an issue with neighbours and the community at large.
    *
You will need to purchase as many advanced cat toys as possible to distract your Bengal, and redirect their frenetic energy levels into activities scientifically proven to stimulate and satisfy this discriminating breed.
    *
While some Bengals may form very close relationships with particular people, they do not like to be cuddled or groomed. If you own a Bengal cat, don't expect it to be a lap cat.
    *
In particular, don't expect to be able to touch your Bengal cat's paws without being clawed or bitten. Their paws are very sensitive and it is best to respect the fact that they do not want this unsolicited stimulation.
    *
In conclusion, I leave you with the following shocking video footage, showing how these half-wild Bengal cats are more than most cat owners can handle, and should definitely not be taken in by the unwary or the inexperienced.

How do you tell if a cat has bengal genes in it? My husband and I have just adopted a rescue cat 1.5 yo tabby/white, we were hoping for a lap cat as he is in a wheelchair. However, soon after bringing her home she has shown every characteristic of a bengal, she is absolutely crazy with playtime, very vocal with a sometimes scratchy voice. She bites quite a bit to communicate play or hunger or just attention. She is very sweet and gentle when not hyperactive. Doesn’t really like being held and will bite till put down. She loves scratching everything, loves hiding in any dark place, climbing with ease. She’s also very smart and will bring her toys to us to play with her. She plays fetch with balls and is fussy with toys and food. Amazingly she isn’t too bothered by all the disability equipment in our home. Whether she is a bengal or not thankfully I grew up with half feral cats for almost 20 years and volunteered at a shelter with some very abused and angry kitties so I’m not too worried.

We have two Bengals, one brown that looks exactly like an Asian tree leopard, and the other a snow Bengal, which looks like a mini-white tiger. You don't understand speed until you see them when they get the zoomies! The brown is flighty and cautious, and doesn't enjoy being picked up, the snow is braver and loves to sit in my arms and smurgle. When the brown one wants a belly rub, he is VERY VERY bold and demanding, and will meow LOUDLY until you give him one, which is totally contrary to his normal behavior. As Bengal kittens get to know you, they bond and will allow you to touch and handle them, but some more than others. They do need play to use up their energy, and lots of it.

What a great video. Thank you. We are adopting a Cheetoh (ocicat/Bengal) tomorrow. We are researching these breeds and this video just calmed us down and has us giggling. Thank you. Meow

the sarcasm in this video is hilarious and shows, while they do definitely have certain traits, not all the warnings apply to every single one of the breed. loved it!

My bengal has always been a lap cat and loves affection. She sleeps on my pillow every night. She’s also never been hyper.
She is more like a dog than a cat though. She is an F3 bengal and has papers, so I guess she’s just unusual for a bengal.

GilaMonster971. Yours Has Very Good Breeding & Was handled Right. Not All Bengals are Aloof & Standoffish. My Bengal/Tabby Has All the Good Unique Bengal Traits. However immediately After She Bathes Herself While her Fur is Damp She's A Touch-Me-Not Once Played out She Gets Super Affectionate and will Cuddle then Sleep

They are hyperactive and very demanding of your time. My female is vocal too. But they are real characters so it evens out.
But do not buy a Bengal if you are after a lap cat.
As to their reputation as hunters my Bengal has less predatory instinct than a common moggie. This is overhyped.
And a F 4 plus Bengal is not a WILD CAT, that’s plain hyperbole!!!

Male cats will protect their area..
A Marble cat is called a Classic Tabby..
When a Bengal cat has a marble pattern in it fur, the swirls and markings are different on each side of the belly.. When a classic tabby has marble markings, the patterns and swirls are nearly identical on both sides and there is also a bullseye.
