This is one of the episodes that makes me feel like this podcast was made for the kids who always read the album credits. Johnta Austin, Bryan-Michael Cox, Manuel Seal, etc… gifted writers.
FINALLY JOHNTA AUSTIN!!! His name has been brought up in a great percentage of these R&B Money Podcast conversations and he's finally here! Part 2 is def needed for him.
At 47:03:- GEM: when Tank asked who came up with the “Ooh, ooh” in Mariah’s Shake it off track. Tank is a real musical genius to even think to ask this question and it’s so cool to be educated on parts of songs that I personally would look over. I forget Mariah has an ear for song melodies and adding the “ooo ooo” in her songs like the classic “Shoe do do do do do do do” in her song “Fantasy”. Best Episode thank you ❤.
When J started singing baby boy, I lost it😂😂😂😂 I loved this one Johntá is one of the all time greats! This is most definitely one of the top podcast out right now. Y’all stay coming with the heat.🔥
Johnta wrote so many classics that defined my taste in R&B. I can't thank y'all enough for this episode. I do wish we got to hear about the writing process for 'Don't Forget About Us' during the Mariah segment.
Can we get studio engineers, publishers, and more studio execs? I love the artists but I think that the entire RnB industry needs to be covered. I’m going to have my elementary aged students watch this podcast.
his eyes are literally like dancing 😍 as he talks about the music lol…i agree, there’s something warm about seeing that level of genuine passion from an artist of any field
Agreed next time Johnta in LA or y’all in Atlanta. We know he’s busy but even Johnta looked surprised it was over lol. He was having a good time and seemed to have more to give. 💗
I’ve been a Johntá fan for decades, his gift TRULY made room for him as a giant in the industry. Truly wrote the soundtrack of a millennial generation, continued blessings! OH AND THAT IASNN… mannnn 🤪😲
I freaking LOVE this podcast. As a pure lover of the genre… from the history of how things came to be, the tea, and the comedy… gosh this podcast is so freaking good. Def a win for the culture
A living legend that has gave us classic after classic. His Top 5 is going to AMAZING!!!!!! And that versus that he did with NeYo is one of my favorites!!!!
This was an absolutely wonderful episode, and I feel like we only skimmed the surface on what Mr. Johntá Austin has given to us in the ever changing world of music. I enjoyed his presence and seemingly authentic vibe and storytelling ability. Will remember this one for sure. Thank you @R&B Money Podcast. See y’all next week. 💸🫶🏾
Dang Tank!! I didn't know he was on that Aaliyah song. I gotta go back and listen to that.. That's like when he said he's singing background on that Jon B. Song, "Lately" ..unbelievable. Tank is everywhere and been doing it longer than we knew❤
R.kelly is one my favorite artists but because he wrote alot of those songs,I realize he's singing about girls my daughters age. I can't listen anymore.
Love Love this podcast so much.. Love the selects, J and Tank. Would LOVE to hear folks give a little credit to the female writers, singers and other women who have done and are doing their thing too! Minnie Ripperton, Angie Bofill, Phyllis Hyman, Teena Marie, Stephanie Mills so many dynamic women and legends who have written AND sang who have put they toes in and pathed ways for the other greats out here today. Gentlemen artists, song writers give them some luv too.. pleeeze!!! Lol.. thank ya kindly..
It's so cool to hear these producers/songwriters/artists corroborate each other's stories w/o even knowing it. It was so cool to Tyrese & James Fauntleroy tell the same story. Now, it's cool to hear Troy Taylor & Johnta' talk about the same scenarios.
I love when the artist are on but when you all bring on the song writers and producers I live for it. I love the back stories of all the records we know and love.
@rnbmoneypodcast YOU ALL HAVE CREATED SOMETHING WHICH WILL NEED TO BE AROUND FOR A LONG TIME!! To meet writers/singers behind songs which mark my adolescent and young adult college years…my goodness!!! THANK YOU!! 🙌🏾🔥❤️
Just when I was secure in the fact that no one could ever out squinty eye lol Tank, in walks Jonhta.😍then the salt and pepper hair with the pinstripe suit- yesss Mr. Austin! beautiful bruthuh! Who writes I mean FREESTYLES in his head beautiful songs. Smh this man’s name is listed on majority of the albums that mean something to me. I look forward to each and every upload! Awe inspiring in every since of the term! 💯
Every Saturday is special to me because of this podcast. Today was no different. Johntá’s writing was the soundtrack of my elementary, middle school, high school, and college years. So gracious for this episode.🙌🏾🔥🔥🔥
I still listen to Johnta’s demo of Can’t Help But Wait. Found it on some music blog years and years ago. I still bump his songs Turn It Up and The One That Got Away too. Pen is COLD and voice is BUTTER.
This was an excellent interview. When I say I had no idea this man was so instrumental in writing all this music…wow what a talent he is!!! Thank u Tank & J. Valentine! ❤❤
It’s good to see legends getting their flowers! I appreciate Tank and J for highlighting these guys like Johnta that are responsible for so much great music
Man!!!!! The man himself!!! I'm still mad that Ocean Drive album didn't drop like it was supposed to. Jonta Austin wrote most of everyone's hits!!💯🤘🏾🔥🔥
I first found out about Johnta Austin when JD first started his For Lifers RUclips vlog videos years ago. Ever since then I’ve been a huge fan when I dig into his catalogue back then. Easily my favorite episode to date!
i love when the songwriters from before the super-tech era give interviews….they just have a different way of storytelling, everything they say sounds like poetry. i smiled from beginning to end of this episode & laughed a LOT (which i needed ♥️) this was a super enjoyable episode, i could watch another hour of you three conversing & sharing, it felt pure 😊
One day soon, this show is gong to hit a milly. And we will be telling people we've been here since day 1! Their is nothing better out there, just sayin...
I love hearing the back story on the making of Come Over. Come Over and Slowly by Tank are my favs!. They are in my rotation to this day. I wonder why my pandora station only play’s Changing Faces version of come over. I didn’t even know they sung it also, but it doesn’t hit the same as Aaliyah’s.
Mr. Austin thank you so much for all of your contributions to the music industry!!! You are a GEM that writes hits that earn GEMS!!! So good!!!! I love this so much!
I tune in for a new episode every Saturday. Throughout every interview with R&B pioneers I always smile from ear to ear . So much history and gems being shared . Keep up the good work and energy . ❤️
Absolutely amazing i feel like you guys are letting us into the behind the scenes of the music business with such wonderful guests. thank you and God bless everyone.
With this episode, I am now 1000% sure that all roads lead to Tyrese. If you're a fan of the podcast, you'll notice that guests mention Tyrese 85-90% of the time in their interviews. Love this episode. Great job guys as usual.👏🏽
I stopped here to watch a few mins before bed and to finish tomorrow. Here I am at 330am finishing the entire episode in one sitting. Love love love me some Johnta Austin. One of my all time favorite songwriters! Fav Verzuz! We need more 🗣
I'll never understand people's disrespect for legendary artists in the "presumed" twilight of their careers. As long as an artist's made 1 amazing album in their career then I'm hooked forever. Someone recently commented on Brandy's low record sales as of late & Usher not having enough hits to do the Superbowl. In what world do record sales = greatness b/c Brandy has the tone of life & she revolutionized BGV's & stacking? If Usher Raymond IV doesn't have enough hits, then Nobody has enough hits.
Johntá is super deserving of all the flowers and a 2nd episode! It was just too short...but I'm always greedy for more when it comes to these types of conversations!
I saw his name on all the credits back in the day. I remember his single because of that. Omg this was so nostalgic! All the hits I grew up on. I love this podcast real bad
This is one of the episodes that makes me feel like this podcast was made for the kids who always read the album credits. Johnta Austin, Bryan-Michael Cox, Manuel Seal, etc… gifted writers.
Yes !
I couldn't have said it better!
Agreed! I was 100% a credit reader!!!
Credit reader over here! 🙋🏾♀️
That kid over here ! So having Johnta was like having Jesus for me 🤣
Carl Thomas DEFINITELY needs a episode
Agreed! Kevin Ross as well
Yessssssssss..Carl Thomas love his 1st Album to death...know every single song by heart..even the skits..
Agreed! His 1st Album is PURE rnb
Emotional is top 5 R&B album of all time
Word! I said this when they first started this podcast 😏👌🏿👌🏿
I’m convinced this podcast does not get the recognition it deserves 🔥🔥🔥
Facts!!
it's in a sweet spot
Its fairly a new podcast people will catch on just keep watching because I sure will ❤
It's Everything! Loved since the 1st season/episode with Jamie Foxx as guest but had no idea it would become my fav podcast by a longggg shot.
We bypassed A LOT!! We need a part 2 immediately!! Bring Johntá back!!
Encore!
They didn’t go into how he met JD and didn’t talk about his work on bow wow also didn’t talk about Johntá solo projects.
Seriously!
Right!!!!!
I’m like we needed more!!!!!!!!☹️
What we miss?!
We need:
- Ginuwine
- Darkchild
- Missy Elliott
- Mariah Carey
- Mary J Blige
- Joe
- T-Boz and Chilli
- SWV
- Brandy
- Erykah Badu
- Jill Scott
Darkchild would be three hours alone 😂😮💨
USHER
I co-sign this message! Add Usher, Timbaland & Ne-Yo to this list too
And Devante Swing, Raphael Sadiq, Faith Evans, and Stevie J
Chris!
Tank literally was EVERYWHERE!!! He is apart of every bodies stories

I felt the same way at one point in this interview. 😂😂😂🎉
Yep exactly.
FINALLY JOHNTA AUSTIN!!! His name has been brought up in a great percentage of these R&B Money Podcast conversations and he's finally here! Part 2 is def needed for him.
Definitely needs a pt2!!
This could've easily been a 4-5 hour pod. This is one on the LEGENDS I grew up reading their names in the CD covers. An undisputed great. ❤
PERIODT! … and I’m here for it!🔥
We NEED: Fantasia, Jennifer Hudson, Toni Braxton, BRANDY & MONICA
Thank y'all because this man definitely needs all his flowers! 💐 🙌🏾 ❤️
I'm glad Jermaine Dupri snatched him up to So So Def. He's part of the Oceans crew.
ALL!
I am so glad Mariah was referenced, FINALLY! 💕🌟👑💐 (she's a superb songwriter and singer like no other, A LEGEND)!!
A Writers Writer....one of the coldest. Tank, J. yall did your thing with this one.✊
At 47:03:- GEM: when Tank asked who came up with the “Ooh, ooh” in Mariah’s Shake it off track. I forget Mariah has an ear for song melodies and adding the “ooo ooo” in her songs like the classic “Shoe do do do do do do do” in her song “Fantasy”. Best Episode thank you ❤.
J was on point when he called him a grown man. He has a very mature and elegant demeanor.
When J started singing baby boy, I lost it😂😂😂😂 I loved this one Johntá is one of the all time greats! This is most definitely one of the top podcast out right now. Y’all stay coming with the heat.🔥
J is a menace 😂😭
I sooo enjoyed this! That Mariah Era and Mary era had the culture in a chokehold ❤ WHAT A GIFTED HUMAN
That sweet spot in the mid 2000s was pure magic
Facts
Definitely did! Stayed in rotation in my house with no skips!!
More songwriters! They have the best stories!
Johnta wrote so many classics that defined my taste in R&B. I can't thank y'all enough for this episode. I do wish we got to hear about the writing process for 'Don't Forget About Us' during the Mariah segment.
THIS!!!! I wrote an entire paragraph about this.
Can we get studio engineers, publishers, and more studio execs? I love the artists but I think that the entire RnB industry needs to be covered. I’m going to have my elementary aged students watch this podcast.
Great idea!
Nice idea
They do a little too much cussin for elementary aged kids, but I teach some high schoolers that I'd watch this with for sure.
Don’t forget about the musicians and background vocals. They’ve been on many tours and have the real “I ain’t saying no names”!
When Tank does the growl in The Top 5 song... it lays me out every time!!!
Lmaoaoaoaoaoa I screaming
Girllll I hollered 😂🤣🤣
😅
His verses with Ne-Yo showed ppl how much of legend he is
super gifted with the pen
My top 5 wish list for this podcast

4. Fantasia

We need JOE. AVANT. BRIAN MCKNIGHT on this my G. Love from NEW ZEALAND 😎
Avant !!! 😍
WAIT!!! Do you think we’re ready for “Joe, Avant, and Brian McKnight?” 😩
I agree with Joe and Avant. I like Brian McKnight I just don’t think he’s interesting enough for me to tune in
I can tell you right now that Brian McKnight and his ego will never come on the podcast.
Why??? They not gonna let the artist explain their catalog without cutting them off and bringing back to them.
This interview really could’ve been 3-4 hours! I would’ve stayed here that long! Love it! ❤❤❤❤
Yesssssss👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Facts
❤❤❤❤ WE DEFINITELY NEED A PART 2 WITH JOHNTÁ!!! I wanted way more but this was great, i got my fix ❤❤❤❤❤
I know they have more footage! And I want more. If tyrese got two parts johnta definitely should have or a 3 hour video!
Agreed i wanted to touch when he released an album and becoming an artist again after all the success i think turn it up was a single.
Agreed next time Johnta in LA or y’all in Atlanta. We know he’s busy but even Johnta looked surprised it was over lol. He was having a good time and seemed to have more to give. 💗
@@RiCra012 I said the same. Icons and Legends need more time and be heard in it's entirety.
@@MsMizz1 I know he really wanted to get into Mariah Carey more as he should of.

Great interview. I do miss the old camera angle when we could see them all at once opposed to it going from person to person now.
Yesss. I’m hoping once they’re back on the west coast it returns
This dude wrote most of my favorite songs. This is crazy 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Dang Tank!! I didn't know he was on that Aaliyah song.
I gotta go back and listen to that..

1:28:28 I enjoyed this entire interview. I loved that he named Kellz as a writer. So many scared to give bro flowers🤷🏾♂️.
On God 🙏🏾🙏🏾🎼 Kellz deserves it
OK now get over it
R.kelly is one my favorite artists but because he wrote alot of those songs,I realize he's singing about girls my daughters age. I can't listen anymore.
I love how Johnta can just start singing lyrics in his voice off the top of his head. Greatness at its finest.❤❤❤❤
