My grandmother had her own beauty shop in the 40's and I studied and got licensed decades later. This is such a cool tutorial. Valentino himself had VERY curly hair...there are pictures of him with a bushy bunch of hair in the back in some casual shots. He really had to work hard to slick it down...but there are also pictures where you can see the curl fighting back. Your example early in the video is quite subtle compared to some pictures from other stills. I am thinking of writing a blog post on my site (and maybe doing a video) on pomade and Valentino. I wonder if he also used Brilliantine, which was a much different product as far as I can tell. Thanks for this great video!
@@pomadesandpompadours6309 Thanks! I know products have evolved and you did use both...some stills of Valentino from Blood and Sand (without the pigtail) show the curl as well as shots of when he saw his wife off for the last time in 1925. There are some pictures of his more natural hair in films like Moran of the Lady Letty (available here on yt), Uncharted Seas (a lost film..bushy front volume, short back, no grease) and a sequence in Beyond the Rocks. In particular, I've written and filmed about Moran...in fact, the 4rd post (not filmed yet) is titled "Hair and Hokum..."...but that's about how the critics hated the lead actress's hair....basically, a Buster Brown haircut, which I discuss a bit....and provide pictures of me in that cut from when I was a kid, LOL!! Towards the end, he was thinning and his hairline was receding and he wore a small toupe at the back of his head ...you can see his bald spot at the very end of The Eagle as they hide behind the umbrella! They actually filled in around his forehead to make a full hairline. There are also picture of him with his hair slicked straight back around, too!'
Thanks for the tip on the “middle” part, never noticed that it was near towards the end of the eyebrow, gonna be using more often this hairstyle ! Good vid bruv
This is the type is style I’m looking for. Like Howard’s Hughes, style when he’s in courtin the movie the aviator Or with Robert De Niro in Once upon a Time in America. Great video ! I’ve been look for a tutorial for a while now
James Fanslau, that hairstyle is very easy to style. That is called a contour. I always style one myself using either Brylcreem, Murray's Super Light or by using Royal Crown Hairdressing.
Kevin Ceniceros It is indeed a great hairstyle and it's versatile because there are many variations and work in any situation. I attempt to show as many variations I can do in my channel so you'd find my go-to contour (1950s style with mid taper), 40s (Cary Grant), 30s (Clark Gable) and now this one from the 20s. I might start a playlist on a contour throught the ages.
I'm always fine with Royal Crown Hairdressing or Murray's Super Light. Those two are my greatest pomade favs. because they agree the most with my medium and long hair.
Kevin Ceniceros Have you tried royal crown pomade and do you prefer hairdressing over the pomade? I love the hairdressing but iv always been curious about the pomade
@@Jay07110 In my opinion, RC Hairdressing is good for nothing else but shine. The pomade however, has a much better performance in my opinion; it performs quite well for a classic light hold, has adequate control, amazing slickness, and a pleasant (but obviously greasy) buildup.
@@pomadesandpompadours6309 Thank you for the reply. I have only one time saw RC pomade in a store near by where I live and I regret not buying it because ever since that day I have never once saw it again in any of the stores where I live yet the hairdressing always seem to be there so it Looks like my best option would be to order online. Again thank you for giving me your take on the two royal crowns I really appreciate it
You could also have a channel, which would teach the man how to behave, like a boss, an adviser, a businessman even!! I hope you answer my two comments, very successful!!
Hi, I'm new to your channel, I'm from Brazil! but here there are few products that leave the hair like this, with the tone of the 30s, I would like to know, which ones are you using, Vaseline of course I will buy, but if I have some products that you can recommend, I will accompany you because it seems, that I really like this time .. alias businessmen walked like that!!!! 🥃🍷
@@gabriel96334 Well i'm italian and i use Linetti brillantine, it's hard to find here so i don't know if you will find it, maybe you can try on Amazon. There are two types, solid and liquid. I tryed both and the liquid only gives you the shine effect meanwhile the solid also gives you a medium holding. Personally i prefer the solid one and the only bad things about both versions are that are very oily and is very hard to clean the hair even with shampoo
Jo Jo I'm glad that you love it! I guess it's somewhat of a tribute to the silver screen actor. I think Reviewbrah did it better than me though, given that he has the same hair type as Valentino and can achieve it with only Brylcreem. On the bright side this one helps folks with Asian hair.

Rudolf Valentino's natural hair was wavy, thick Roman hair. This is a very flattering hairstyle for men.
What? His hair was very straight
Loving this. Rudy Valentino had so much class, he was a very stylish and handsome man. You did a great job reproducing his iconic hairstyle.
I wonder what grease/pomade he used at the time his hair was perfect.

Rockabilly Asian I know. Me? Whenever I style a contour, which I do every single day of my life, I always slick my sides back.
Well done !

Can you list your hair products using in the video? Thanks!
Can you do 1940s Frank sinatra hair if your hair is Longer?
Why not use the real deal 20's brilliantine?
Quick question on the bristle brush. Are they fine or soft hair brush? Or does it not matter?
soft
I wonder if he used a stocking cap to slick his hair down?
Alibeeee probably I wear a hat n my hair looks so good after nice n wavy n nicely parted but after a shower or blow dry looks like shite
