- Опубликовано: 29 сен 2024
- Legendary producer DJ Premier takes us on a journey from his early days as part of the duo Gang Starr, to producing for then up-and-coming rapper Jay-Z and helping to shape his sound, to carving his own lane and becoming one of the greatest producers in hip hop history. And it all started with one idea.
My top 10 by Preem:
"NY State Of Mind"
"Dwyck"
"Just To Get A Rep"
"Supa Star"
"Nas Is Like"
"Ten Crack Commandments"
"The Planet"
"The Next Level (Nyte Time Rmx)"
"Come Clean"
"Downtown Swinga '96"
The Planet has always been one of my fav Primo joints.🔊🤌🏼
Represent on Illmatic too.
All dope but he has so many I lost count
Speak ya clout the 3 beats in one track jeru dap and guru tear these beats up ..primo has to be No1 for that NY sound
You can't go wrong with this list!
Great list but damn…Mass Appeal is one of the illest Hip Hop songs & beat of all time
My top 3 producers of all time: DJ Premier, Primo, Preem.
You're nuts. Dre. Marley marl, erick sermon?
@@JokersNtheOddball But you can't even count the Premier classics. Nobody has as many as him.
@@mbell7498 I have 4 epmd albums that are musically beyond 90 percent of premiers catalogue... just saying
You funny bruh 😂
shocklee?
I ran into Fam at Macy's in San Fran
I was a starving artist (I was eating flaming hot cheetos ) and I walked up to Preemo and told him thank you for all the stellar music he's made, he said thank you. Then I asked if I can give him a copy of my album , he said yeah. That was one of the coolest nights ever.
What a great memory ❤
Just the fact that you know he listened to it is DOPE AF!!!
This was an awesome interview and Premier has all of these memories like it happened yesterday!! Premier will always be an Elite Hip Hop producer and wish him luck to be a Motion Picture soundtrack producer as well!!!
premier is the best thing that ever happened to hip hop
This is the BEST Premo interview ever. Very detailed. Good questions asked. I found out some things I never knew today. Dope.
Ever? Because it's a White interviewer? Keep it real 🤣
@@tochiRTA what!? Im black. Tf is that supposed to mean? How did you even come up with that conclusion? I clearly explained why…he let Preem speak in full detail of things, I never seen Preem go into childhood detail that much...
I must have heard every Primo interview. My personal fave interviews are the two he did with Micheal Rappaport. He was asking about specific snares and his production methods. Not that Preem was giving much away lol. Thats the stuff I wanna hear about though.
I'm 33, been drawn to this God's beats since I was 8. Mad love from Malawi, Africa
Nobody like Preem. To me, he's the epitome of Boom Bap.
He is boom bap
Not just to you. He is.
He definitely is
Boom Bap personified.🔊
I mean, he created Boom Bap
Don't forget he amazing on the 1's an 2's also. Love his djing style - for sure his cuts are thee-most iconic ever in the game.
Insane that we get this knowledge for free🙏🏼
🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿
I‘m from Germany. I grew up with his music and had the chance to see him live 2007 in Heidelberg. he rocked the spot. What a night. Will never forget it
The man, the myth and the legend!
Nobody like Preem. To me, he's the epitome of Boom Bap.
He is!
no doubt
You should edit your comment because it sounds like you're saying "no one likes him"
Premo's memory is impeccable.
The GOAT ...Made a classic with group home...If that doesn't make him a GOAT, nothing will
Some people just *are* classic & Premier might be the best example of that.
He doesn't have to do anything extra, doesn't have to change, "keep up with the times", or do no new nonsense. *Premier IS classic Hiphop*
Evem more impressive to me than the Group Home album is that last Gang Starr album. It would be impressive if he made it sound like one of the old Gang Starr albums but he managed to make it sound like a genuine Gang Starr album that was ORIGINAL & different like it would be if Guru were alive. It's not "a classic", it IS classic. He would've had to fuck it up for it not to be cause he's Premier.
Absolutely fascinating interview. Awesome golden era stories. Hard to Earn, Moment of Truth, Step in the Arena and Daily Operation will always be some of the most significant and influential albums for me.
Gangstarr Foundation for life.✊🏼
Mad props to the legendary DJ Premier.🙏🏼
RIP to the one and only Gifted Unlimited Rhymes Universal.🔥
Peace.
In TExas but grew up downtown BK. .Guru used to ride that little grey Saab around the hood, cool bro.. I was trying to get beats to him, that time yall were right before hard to earn album.. Downtown close to Tillary. Peace blessings.
I had to realize how much of this history ties in to my lfie, I hAD TO Bookmark this interview as one of my favorites.. Ties so much in to me.
Add some chapters to your video uploads please 🙏
Feel free to contribute to Hip Hop by adding it for him in the comments.
If you dont know how google adding Time Stamps/Chapters to youtube comments
This was perhaps the most in-depth DJ Premier interview I've ever watched. Thank you! It would be great to see some photos of Premo and Guru's apartment one day.
Peaze 2 Da Legendary Dj Premier🤘.....Give thx 4 this💯... Gang Starr 4 Eva R.I.P. GURU... Zalute Da Gang Starr Foundation...Greetz from Da Netherlands... One...
It's the best interview I can feel from the bottom of my heart👍
Great questions, great responses, super inspiring and insightful interview.
Greatest hip hop producer ever!!
Back when i still lived back home in Amsterdam, I used to go see him all the time. He never fails, playing not only hip hop btw. DJ Premier is a living legend.
This is a great interview. Premier is a legend, I love the Guru Stories. RIP G
This man is so rich with great memories and a great life. No wonder he makes great records
my greatest inspiration to buy my first technics 1200's with my first salary and start learning to cut it up like premier. favorite producer & DJ since forever!
When you read the booklet and it says ....Produced by Dj Premier...you know the track would hit you in your face
thats how I became aware of producers. Having "Hard to Earn" and seeing that dope picture of the foundation. Then seeing his name on the best cuts on Illmatic and Ready to Die and making the connection. I was like ok so the producer means something.....
LEGENDARY
I hate how in the description the first rapper you want to mention in terms of DJ Premier’s collaboration is Jay Z… Preemo’s best work was displayed with Nas, not Jay Z. Talk about the collab album with Nas we all have been waiting decades for.
For you saying that goes to you that you hate Jay Z. Him and Jay did great work together. Him and Nas does great work together too but his best work is not with Nas only. Preemo does great work with everybody. Not just Nas. What about his other collabs? Also that Nas and Preemo collab is not gonna happen. That was talked about since early 2000s. It is what it is. Nas is known to say something to put it in the air and it never happens.
My dog is named Premier. When people know why, we become instant friends.
I had a Rottweiler named Guru 🔥
It seems like almost every single rapper had parents that were teachers... interesting 🤔
The track he did with krs1 rakim and nas was soooooo dope timeless
Phenomenal interview!
Thank you!
date of this interview?
It just came out.
First shorter iteration came out about 8-9 months ago. This is the full version. So not entirely new
do you ever change the title of your songs or album mid-way thru the process??
Best Primo Interview Yet
The Tony hawk of boom bap !! Lol
Great interview
The greatest hip hop producer ever by MILES
“Unsuspicious yellow cab ride’n through the east...” ~Lil’Dap
@DJ Premier, first of all, I'm a huge fan of your music and I really appreciate your interview videos, in particular because of your incredible ability to recall all those events to such great detail, including the names of all the individuals involved and present. That being said though, now that we learn how Diddy apparently was the Epstein of the rap industry (from the 'Jones v. Combs et al' 02/26/24 court files), I wonder whether you have witnessed or experienced any such activities at the Diddy parties you apparently attended - activities such as: drugs, spiked drinks, prostitutes, underage girls, grooming of artists into acts of homosexuality, and sexual blackmail (since Diddy's residences were fully rigged with hidden cameras) .. ?
Great interview. Absolute legend.
Legend!
We aren’t worthy of this 😮
Just imagine hip hop without this man... Preem is THE GOAT
That was one of the best interviews I ever saw... Premier is the "Real-Deal" Amazing OG and Straight up Character (No Bullshit).... R.I.P Guru ✌️Out
Preemo the goat! Shouted out Playland!! Many great memories spent there growing up.
Gangstarr has got to be the sure shot!!!!!! 🙏🏻💪✌️ Long live the Guru.
What’s the name of the host? He’s a great interviewer. Asks thoughtful questions, listens intently and asks follow up questions and probably most importantly, doesn’t interrupt!
Damn, the way he described Guru's drinking sounds exactly like my older brother. Shit is sad to watch.
The Absolute Hardest shit Prem ever did was The Oracle wit Vinnie Paz... to me nothing comes close lol. So so many perfect records he made thou...
Fantastic interview and great job placing everything on a timeline
Glad you enjoyed it!
0:19 DJ Premier great Producer DJ everything classic

DJ Premier is one of a kind dude💪💪💪
🎲🐍🎲
FUNNY MY MYSPACE WAS C RIP GANGSTAR & CATS THOUGHT IT SAID CRIP GANGSTER 😂🤣😭 #RIPGURU
Phryme is the worst work he has ever done. Please no more. Royce is not worthy and it shows in what he inspires from Preeme.
Wow I never knew he was from Texas making a east coast sound
I’m turning 40 this year and I want Preem to be my granddad
Very sympathetic guy :) (the host, too:))
Amazing interview! ✌🏽❤️
Shout out preemo. Still looking young too.
Preemo is the G.O.A.T!!!💯
Learned & realized some new things here like DJ Premier's connection with Travis Scott's father, his last time with Guru and Big L's mother telling Lord Finesse that he's in charge with Big L's The Big Picture album.
Give Preem his plaques.
I wonder if he went to the freak offs?
💎GOAT!!!ONE of the best yet!👑⚙⛓🎹🥁🎤
💾LEGENDARY PREEM!!Peace! 🏆
grande Preemo 💚

Legendary
I loved listening to The Thunderstorm with Dj Premier on WBLS. There are a few rips of this show floating around but i need more haha.
two and a half hours interview with my favorite producer? my body is ready!
LOL.. Premiere is not raps biggest producer.
What /who are you responding to actually? Regardless, "the biggest" is a relative thing. For many, the sheer impact is more important than sales, for example.
Right, not the biggest just simply the best
I was born in 65 all the stuff he is saying i remember
THE LEGEND. Salute to Premo and Gangstarr.
Almost 😢 when he was talking about visiting Guru in the hospital.
wait a minute preemo is from houston tx? i thought he was from houston street...
Preemo defines the boom bap sound. Pure raw and uncut hip hop 🔥🔥💯
Premo is easily the GOAT in my opinion. No one has been as consistent and has a catalogue as deep as Preem.
Works of Mart. SALUTE DJ PREMIER
one of the best, if you don't agree you prob wasn't there!
Heyyyy shouts to momma from BMore. But is she out west or ova east.. she gets it. 🐐TY P
This is the best Preemo interview I've seen in a long time. The questions were on point...

Love this extended interview. I seen the first one dope but this one is even better.
One of my heroes. It's a short list. But there he is.
