I searched "trim MPG video mac" and was VERY pleased to see your face pop up, Gary. I hate weeding through so many awful videos by people who don't know what they're talking about. You have never failed me. I thank you and always appreciate your content.
Great explanation, no stupid talking, just the nitty-gritty. So this turns out to be one of the best instruction videos I've found on RUclips, thank you!
Thanks a lot!!!!!!! You are a truly hero!!! I had to transfer about 20 VHS tapes to Digital Files through a converter. Each tape is about 3 hours long and to make the transfer you have to actually play each tape individually from start to finish. When the tape is over you have to press Stop on the converter. Since nobody has time to sit down the entire time, I would play the tapes while doing other activities. But I was always late to press the Stop button for each tape and I would end up with extra 30 minutes or even an hour of a blue screen video. So I needed to trim the end of each video, I tried movie maker and besides taking a long time to finalize it (about an hour or even more) I would end up with a HUGE 30 GB video file ! If I wanted to reduce the file size I had to reduce the video quality to a 540 which lowered the video quality drastically . So I wanted a simple and quick solution, I just wanted to trim the videos without having to go to lengthy video editing and without losing video quality !!! Thanks God I came across your video !! It saved my life !!!!! Greatly appreciated !!!!!!!!!
Fantastic---impeccably explained, no frills, just straight to the point, and you even anticipated problems that we might encounter, in explaining how to save it instead of exporting it. Thank you for your hard work.
That was EXTREMELY HELPFUL, Thank You!!! It worked just fine for me thanks to your crystal clear explanations! To note, now in 2021 end, QT allows you to save your video after you "Split Clip" and remove your unwanted video section.
Thanks very much Gary, I had been using Quicktime 7 and www.elgato.com/en/video-capture for years with ease but since changing to MacOS Catalina nothing appeared to trim my work anymore. I spent 4 hours searching web and found you on here. Now I realize I was so dumb not even knowing I could be trimming movies in Photo's. Thanks again.
Gary, Thank you soooo much! I have this project due and I added a voiceover in iMovie. I realized I messed up some audio and couldn't figure out how to fix it and this helped a lot! I really appreciate your video!
In typical APPL form: Split Clip - an awkwardly difficult to find term for what should properly be referred to as SPLICE. Thanks so much for the guidance. You’re a ray of light inside the Apple😃
Wow, how can we live wihtout you, my good brother!! I do so appreciate you. I've been subscribing and I am never disappointed. God bless you so much!!! Keep up the good work. You've kept us smiling :))))))))))) Apple should pay you handsomely, and why not!!! :)))))))))
You've done it again, Gary! You constantly amaze me in how you can unlock these secrets in Apple products! I had no idea this was possible in either Quicktime or Photos! Thank you so much! And very clear.
This is very nice, thanks for the help. Sometimes you just need to trim a video. (like when you don't shut off your camera and have 8 minutes of video when you only thought you only had 30 seconds...
OMG! Yeah, this is a perfect quick video for low-tech teachers. They asked me easiest way to trim and split clip their lecture to the collage students.
This was REALLY helpful. Thank you!! Is it possible to zoom in globally for the duration of a video? I have a video done from a phone of a concert performance of one of my own compositions. The person used a pretty wide view of the people performing and I would like to reduce that area.
The key thing here is that after you trim, you have to SAVE to get the lossless copy. If you do Export, you get a re-encoded video. Very interesting design choice in the program
Gary, when you trim a file and then either save it or export it, will the new file size be smaller than the original (depending on how much you trimmed)? Thanks for another very helpful video.
Hi Gary, hope you find time to answer my question - for just trimming: is this the same function as (on OS Mojave) you have in the finder window? and most important: Is there a quality loss if you trim a video with this??
@@ApneaPlanet Lots of ways to test. For instance, trim almost nothing (a second) from a video and compare the size. See if it is only a tiny bit different. But anyway, if "I cannot see any" then what difference does it make?
Hi Gary, I'm really appreciating your daily/weekly subscriber offerings. Do you know if there is a way to batch convert (.mov) files? I've got some high res clips that I'd like to re-save as "Apple1080p" in Quicktime. I know how to do that one at a time, wondering if there's a quicker way for a bunch of files? Thanks!
Using quicklook in Mojave have similar features. Do you happen to know if trimming using quicklook is lossless like using QuickTime? I can't final anything anywhere that talks about that. I need a fast way of trimming clips without losing quality. Thanks! Love your videos.
The only complaint that I have with this QuickTime feature is that I am stumbling deaf when I use it. As in -- I can only rely on visual cues to make sure I am placing the start and endpoint correctly. This is only a _slight_ inconvenience where placing the _start_ of my clip is concerned - but _very_ cumbersome where placing the _end_ of my clip is concerned. I wish they had the option that would enable me to hear the sound as I move the start-point or the end-point. If only it had this feature, QuickTime would fulfill this purpose PERFECTLY.
Great, thanks for the video! Certainly a help! @2:04 Is it really lossless when you Save a video? If so, that's great news! (P.S. I'm using the PC version)
Yes, you can trim sections. Try it. Once you save the new version, the trimmed parts are gone. So make sure you save the original if you think you want it.

Hugely useful tutorial. Simple, straight-forward, easy to follow.
Perfect quick video to explain what I was looking for. I already knew how to trim the beginning and end, just needed help with the middle parts.

Outstanding video, Gary. Thank you so much for sharing this useful editing information with us!
This is an excellent tutorial since most people have no idea that Quicktime has had this easy to access eating capability. Well Done!
Helped me so much, too! I've struggled for days with tiny pieces I had to strip out, they made me mad.... Now you made my day :-))

thanks! but sometimes it doesnt save when i edit it, even when i edit it. do you have any advice?

What you want to do is use iMovie and crop that clip. Cropping will fill the video frame with the cropped area, which is the same thing as "zoom in."
very helpful, thanks. can you fade out in a video using quicktime player?
No, there's no way to do that in QuickTime Player.
THANK YOU SO MUCH IVE BEEN SPENDING HOURS

Thanks a lot . This is working with some videos , but some other videos it s allowing to edit or to trim ..
Excellent and informative.. i need this. thank you!
For short, right click the clip or screen recording on your desktop and press trim and save.
Just a tip, this also works on audio files.

You have more options if you use QuickTime Player, but use whichever you want. There should be no quality loss, but test for yourself to see.
