    Was just talking about April Wine the other day! When we lived in Ontario, they played at my older sisters grade 8 Christmas dance haha. Beloved by Canadians, thanks Fil ❤️⭐️

      Myles will stop touring. His last show is March 2nd in Truro, Nova Scotia. The show sold out in 10 minutes. He hired a replacement singer to sing after that.

      yeh same here april wine was a hit on radio 80s hot chocalate 70s in school
      unlikely hit but april.wines version was on radio back then also was telling wop.recent years more common phish disco inferno cake i will survive even rockers firehose back in day covered chic in club show i attended

    April Wine's "the Nature of the Beast" is one of my favorite 'good ole fashion in your face rock-n-roll' albums. Not a bad song on it. These guys were a very underrated rock-n-roll band.

    First saw this great Canadian band in 1971 playing Fast Train. A Canadian icon of a band. Love them so much!!!!! 😀

      @@rmcellig I first saw them play it in May 1971 in Toronto at something called the Maple Leaf Music Festival, Mashmakhan, April Wine, Mainline, Crowbar and Lighthouse. David Henman, the guitarist said it was inspired by a draft dodger they met in Montreal.

    I introduced my husband to this band. The song was "Sign Of The Gypsy Queen." The guitar solo blew him away. He replayed it again and again. This band is shamefully underrated. Thanks for featuring this great musicians!

    I had the opportunity to meet Errol, wow. He had the x-factor, a 'something' you can't explain. If you listen to his 'roar' on the track 'Emma' there's no reason why he couldn't sing metal. Quality song writing will transcend music genres. God bless you Errol and the rest of the band.

    I worked as a local crew roadie for April Wine in the 80's
    Today I learned that the founder & frontman of April Wine Myles goodwin has passed away today I believe at the age of 75 .
    He was a talented singer / songwriter and multi instrumentalists.
    May he R.I.P.
    I enjoy your vlogs .
    I also think you did a piece on the band Triumph .
    Recently Guitarist Rik Emmet got diagnosed with prostate cancer .

    I only just now learned that this was a cover... and I'm an old Nova Scotian, so April Wine goes all of the way back to my early childhood. The studio version doesn't let up at all, either.
    The band put out mostly self-written songs, but covers also showed up on their albums. Elton John's "Bad Side of the Moon", and "Sign of the Gypsy Queen" by Lorence Hud were a couple of them.
    RIP Myles Goodwyn.

    I grew up on the Canadian border and saw April Wine in 1976 and 1978. They played this song at both shows. Loved the band and love their version of the song. Glad you featured it.

    April Wine has been one of my favorite bands since first hearing them in the early 70's as a kid . . . For me when I listen to the album "Electric Jewels" - which is quite often - I have the same reaction every time and that is I LOVE EVERY SONG . . . 😁 . . . thanks for covering our April Wine! Happy New Year and all the best!

    I wonder how One Eye Willy is doing 🤔
    You did a bang on job in this analysis of this song. I never heard of this band or song. This performance was full of energy. It was interesting to hear about ghost notes... funny how our brains work.

    I've had April Wine pop up in my feed lately, and then Fil covers them. Honestly, I didn't follow them at the time, so this was a revelation.
    Merci for doing this. Doesn't matter the band, or the genre, I'll watch Fil do an analysis.

    Saw them in 1971 at a local stadium in Truro, Nova Scotia. My daughter just got off the phone with me before I searched up your vid - they're touring again (a final tour), and she bought tickets to take me to see them play in March for this tour. It's like coming full circle. I never knew Could Have Been a Lady was done by anyone prior to them, so this vid is a fun surprise. They also made a serious hit out of Elton John's "Bad Side of the Moon". I recommend that one for a compare/contrast as well. :) Great vid. Thanks.

    I'm a big fan of April Wine. First concert for me back in the 70's. I don't remember them playing this song sped up like in this concert.

    This was a huge hit for them in Canada, i never even knew that it was a cover, here it's always been seen as an April Wine song. FYI there are much better quality performances of them doing this on RUclips, look up their 1981 in London Concert it's a great show and contains most of their hits.

      Back in the 70's, every cover they did was better than the original ; Bad Side Of The Moon, Could Have Been A Lady, Sign Of The Gypsy Queen, and later on 21st Century Schizoid Man. Paid $ 2 the first time I saw them in the early 70's.

    Love this song, this might be the 1st actual Album I ever bought (late '71) if we don't count them K-Tel ones.... lol. Still own it plus some others by these guys. Seen them a ton live, they used to tour all the small Cities so I seen them in Kamloops a bunch.

    Saw them at a Casino recently, Brian Greenway, and Myles Goodwyn and a couple of hired guns. Good show, played this...of course. And Weeping Widow, and Sign of the Gypsy Queen. Yeah, good show.

    Covered the April Wine version of this song in the last cover band I was in. A lot of fun to play, I just only wished more people knew the song. 😃 So it didn't stay on the set list unfortunately.

    April Wine are a Canadian Treasure. They hit way out of their weight class. Some of their early stuff is absolutely fabulous. Fast Train. Straight ahead meat n potatoes rock and roll. Their 70's and early 80's hits are classics. They have a fabulous guitarist lineup and Myles Goodwin is a great singer.

      Hey Johanna, April Wine has a long list of phenomenal tracks. From wholesome ballads with a touch of ‘50’s doowop to basic good old rock n roll. To me they were the epitome of a Canadian weekend.

    I had never heard either version of this song before! And I do know heaps of _other_ Hot Chocolate songs! 🤯 Not all that many April Wine ones, I admit; I'm most familiar with their 'Harder, Faster' album, which has another cover song on it: King Crimson's '21st Century Schizoid Man'! 😀 I'd heard it several years before the original (and had up to that point believed it was _their_ song, too! 😅) and have always liked it better than King Crimson's original 😊

    That's actually April Whine, the real April Wine died in 1986.

    Hi great video, however, the hot chocolate version you featured here, is the re-recorded version which was heavier and even probably influenced by the April Wine version. The original version was slower and more soul/funk and didn’t have that bass riff. Guitar same though. Thanks.

    Please find the clean original recorded version of this song when April Wine was a 4 piece band available on RUclips. This loud convoluted stage performance is not what we Canadian's are used to hearing from April Wine. This is hurried with extra guitars way to loud. Thanks, much appreciate your channel .

      The Hot Chocolate single was released in 1971, it was included on the Cicero Park album 3 years later in 1974.

    Not a fair comparison, go back to the original record, sounds much better and you see how they took an English minor hit, and make it their own. Also see Bad side of the moon.
