April Wine were second to none in rock ballads. There were only three artists that got five airplays of one song on the first day of MTV. The Who, Phil Collins and April Wine (Just Between You and Me) which provided a wonderful sending off for Myles as some reactors played it upon his death.

You Get IT! What I've loved about April Wine for the past 40+ years is that they can grind the metal edge yet throw some blues and still croon some early classics. They were so able to cover all sides of rock and blues. I have all their albums pre-1990 and love them all. Such a talented band.

I promoted a concert in1975 and I hired April Wine as the main act. I'd promoted other bands and the most difficult to deal with were bands on the way up but not there. They often had members and managers that thought they knew the business but actually didn't. Myles and April Wine were total pros. So very very nice to deal with. They were a great band live or in the studio and they were very appreciative of the gig and were really good to me, only 19 at the time.

Thanks so much for reacting to April Wine!
I'm Canadian and the first concert I went to was April Wine opening for Queen in 1975. April Wine sadly sold the publishing rights to all their music at the height of their popularity. April Wine broke up and eventually the money ran out and Miles being the main songwriter, had to reconstitute April Wine and they constantly toured and played in bars, community halls, and other small venues to try and pay the bills.
April Wine was known for their impeccable live performances and the juggernaut of three lead guitar players.
SUBSCRIBED, I needed this and your reaction today. Thanks again. 🎶✌️👉🇨🇦

Most had not heard of April Wine as the group wasn't as overplayed on the radio like Rush was in CA. They were my very 1st concert in 1983 - also saw Triumph at the US Festival in 83 too! What a rockin' year that was! I never realized that I was such a fan of Canadian bands, (Billy Squire and Aldo Nova were other Chunuk rockers I liked) there was no Google around to tell us that then. Thanks for the review! "I like to Rock" is another great April Wine song too! Left a comment on your Triumph review too. 😘

As a Canadian, I have *of course* seen them live, at a club right here in Calgary, Alberta, I believe in the late 90s / possibly early 2000s. I distinctly remember that when I was a pre-teen / early teen in the early to mid '80s, they also played a bar in my small home town of Lethbridge, Alberta (population around 50,000 to 55,000 at the time) several times. They spent their career as a hard-working touring band without much glamour. Seriously under-rated, IMO.

I grew up in the 80s and 90s in Nova Scotia and got to really enjoy the music of Aprilwine. My parents took us to many AW concerts, they were fans from way back in the day. My Aunt married one of Myles brothers. We got in to a lot of shows for free. I never got back stage myself, but I did get to meet him a few times over the years. Thanks for this nice review of this under rated and underappreciated band. :)

April wine is the real deal. They still get tons of airplay on my classic rock statio herr in Canada. They have a deep catalogue. Great band live. Saw them several times.

Fun to know. They sure don't get played on the classic rock stations here in Denver, which is a crying shame. They sure as heck should be because they're fantastic. This tune is my fave, but I also like I Like to Rock a lot, and I've played both of those songs in bands I've been in.

Another awesome reaction & this one more than others for me growing up in Nova Scotia (where they're from) I've seen the band close to 20 times & even met some of them working in bars for 22 years. They had such a range of songs (& amount) that made so many people fans! Rip Miles ❤.

I seen this exact line-up back in the seventies. Needless to say it was awesome! With this group they had three lead guitarist, which means they would switch guitar solos, licks and tricks, to where as i felt like i was at a tennis match, trying to keep up with all the back and fourth solos. Made me pay attention and get more involved with the song and entire concert! 🙂

Being a hometown boy,April Wine were ALWAYS sure to hit us up,every tour.
I must have seen them at LEAST 4 times, and,it was NEVER a disappointing gig, even when the album that they were touring FOR wasn't a particularly good record...they had a solid enough back catalogue to dig into.
    NEVER a bad show,even after
Myles went and did his solo thing for a while.
R.I.P. Myles, and, thanks for leaving behind so much to remember.

I saw Myles with his trio not long before he passed... he still had it! You need to analyze April Wine's "I Wouldn't Want To Lose Your Love"... it shows off the best of his vocal prowess, range and sensitivity. As much as Myles could belt a rocker like "Roller", few in music history could navigate a rock ballad and draw a listener into the story like Mr Goodwyn could... RIP, my Maritime brother!

It's funny how the big three 🇨🇦 rock bands that have been analyzed have front men with the ability to use high-pitched vocals. Coincidence or competing styles? They made it hard for tweens, teens, and even adults to follow along without cracking their own voices.
I'm glad you got around to April Wine. They made a lot of songs you wanted to play in your car on dates.

a lot of male canadian vocalists had that tone at that time for some reason. Bill Henderson of chilliwack and Kim Berly the drummer (who sometimes sang lead) from the stampeders to name but two more, there were many. they could all play and sing back then. that high singing tone was a real thing though.

So happy that you decided to react to April Wine. They were one of my favorite bands growing up. Myles Goodwyn lived in our neighborhood (Montreal's West Island), the next street over in the early 70's. I remember seeing them play at my high school and at the local hockey arena. Great times. I think I still have their second album, "On Record" in vinyl somewhere in the basement. Some other good Canadian bands that I remember from that era are Mahogany Rush, Kim Mitchell, The Guess Who (Burton Cummings) and The Wackers. The latter was actually from California and moved to Montreal in 1972.
Another band that you might want to react to is Bad Company or Free. They both featured Paul Rogers, my favorite blues/rock vocalist. I saw that The Charismatic Voice reacted to them last week.

One of my favorite Rock bands from that era who I saw live back in the day. For whatever reason they didn't have quite the commercial success and following of Triumph and definitely not Rush and it baffles me to this day. I've seen Rush many times live and Triumph and April Wine was right up there as performers in their own way.
