I love that you guys like April wine , they are a underrated band , I LIKE TO ROCK is the song you need to hear next from them
Jerry Mercer was one of the most bad ass drummers in rock
I saw them Live for the first time on this tour in a 700 seat hockey arena in eastern Canada. They were a really good Live band.
This was early Wine and Myles was just belting it out with his vocals and the guitar was insanely electrified.
Didn't Jim Clench sing that one?
@@timmckay5117 He did indeed, but Myles did part of the chorus, Clench was lead for most of it though.
It was Bass player Jim Clench singing lead. He also is responsible for Oowatanite.
Not Myles Goodwin, it's Jimmy Clench lead vocal.
@@lynnw9857 Still my all time fave
JERRY MERCER is such a killer under rated drummer
Love his powerful and thunderous sound. Pretty cool drum solos too.
A fill god when he wants to be, doesn’t overdo it as much as he can, perfect placement on everything he does. A true master of the art honestly. You gotta know when to hold back, that’s more than half the battle. He does this extremely well.
You are 100% correct. I don't want to say April Wine was bubblegum, but let's face it, they were no Led Zep. Therefore, never really showcased Mercer's talents.
He is ranked third in the world or least was third back in early 2000
Possibly my favourite April Wine song out of many favourites. A few years back this song was not on RUclips.
Gettin my kids into it.
"Could've Been a Lady" (1972) and "Weeping Widow" (1973) were huge in Canada. And I think their best stuff
Silver Dollar, dark foreboding and soul grabbing is my fav off of First Glance. If you love piano, the intro to It's Coming Right Down on Top of Me is sublime.
Great tune
Man, April Wine was one of Canada's biggest bands. I rate them right up there with Rush, Chilliwack... they have a huge selection of songs that were fantastic. This was always one of my top favorites but so was Could have been a Lady, Bad Side of the Moon, OOwatanite, I'm on Fire for you Baby, so many tunes to pick from. PLEASE MORE APRIL WINE!!! Maybe even a Canadian band week! :)
Chillwack ? Shall have to check them out have about 5 April wine CDs but don't call hearing this one before. Caught them live and it was an excellent show.
@@ToddLong-rk3mw Check out Chilliwack's - Lonesome Mary. It came out in 1971 on their 2nd album & was a top 10 hit here in Canada. Great song! ruclips.net/video/oas1Gg6njBg/видео.html
If you like "Weeping Widow", you'll also love "Oowatanite" by them
"Weeping Widow". Jim Clench shared, if you can say that, lead vocals till '75. Creative differences between himself n Myles Goodwin caused Jim leaving in '75. Jim later rejoined in '92 til his death . You're hearing very early 'April Wine' here. Good track but so much more great stuff over the next 30 years. They still tour with Myles as always, front n center.
It does kick ass live. Oowatanite is the next one you should listen to. I love Weeping Widow, but I grew up with The Wine and this was all over the radio at the time. A beaten up and well loved vinyl copy of Electric Jewels is in my collection
It may not have been their top selling hit but Oowatanite to me is their definitive song.
Try ' I Like to Rock' they have many gems one of the versatile Canadian R & Rlers , we really like seeing your growing musically , keep on rocking n rollen
You could of been a lady is a better song
Always liked April Wine's, 'Say Hello'....and my trucker friends all love the official video of 'Enough is Enough'. Hilarious.
Say Hello has such a cool drum groove.
Guys.. I'm right up the road from you in Indiana. You are absolutely right.. I'm 61 and they never play those good songs. It's the people that control the radio. They don't like good music it almost seems. 😛 It's like you said about Triumph.. They did play that stuff in the 70's and 80's, but even then, only every once in awhile.
Good stuff man!
WISHBONE ASH.. WARRIOR..1973.
Alright, alright, too much for ya, we got it, you don't want to rock to April Wine, you guys wanna groove to April Wine ?
OK
"Say Hello" is a short bit of ear candy or try their big hit "Oowatanite" (Oh what a night)
Keep up with the Canadians, for they are superior...lol 😉
April Wine invented the power ballad, in my opinion. They have so many rock ballads that they actually put out a greatest hits album of just ballads.
Sadly, Myles Goodwyn passed away Sunday 3rd December '23. He will be greatly missed. RIP
Trust me you need to react to "Silver Dollar".
NOW YOU HAVE TO REACT TOO ANOTHER CANADIAN ARTIST JEFF HEALEY AS the years goes PASSING BY LIVE IN GERMANY HE IS A "BLIND GUITARIST "
This needs more than one listen. It's maybe April Wine's most prog-rockish, sometimes quasi-metal ballad, song. I remember buying this album on the recommendation of the record store manager, who'd steered me to other great stuff. I took it home, put on the turntable, and based on this, I knew right away I'd love this band--especially as they grew as artists.
There is a really good version on a live album. This song requires multiple listens to appreciate. You guys need to do the video for "If You See Kay" and the studio version of "20th Century Schizoid Man."
Weeping Widow is my favourite April Wine song! They had a great mix of rockers and ballads (which kept the girls happy 🙂).
RIP Myles Goodwyn. I disagree with you boys 100%. Weeping Widow is a fantastic song! It's one of my favourite April Wine songs. You should listen to "Oowatanite". It's my favourite AW song after "I Wouldn't Want To Lose Your Love".
Should listen to every track on the albums "Electric Jewels".. and "Stand Back".. Great start to April Wine.. Huge in Canada mid 70's.. Try this tune again and see if you like it better
They have alot of hits, i love this band i saw them in 2001. My personal favourite is "Im on Fire for you Baby". I love like a Lover like a song, Rock and Roll is a viscous game, I wouldnt want to lose your love "
Probably their top song. Try some slower stuff , Just between you and me, tonight is a wonderful night, oowhanight, and all over town,is one of my fav.
April Wine as "Gothic Folk"?
Hahahahaha... find your way around to The Stanfields. They're described as the bastard offspring of Stan Rogers( folk legend) and AC/DC.
April Wine!!!!
My favourite Band since 1977.
Best Band in The World!!!!
April Wine "Future Tense". Was never a big hit for them but is a great song
There’s a live version of their song Cat’s Claw from back then that’s really awesome.
I saw April Wine in concert many times in the 70's/80's.... those guys could literally have the entire house bouncing and rock'in..... the most under-rated Canadian Rock Band in history in my view.
Mercer is a beast on the drums!!!!!
Check out Headpins, another Canadian band. You will love them!
Rock Ballad : Aprin Wine: You won't dance with me.....try it you ......will be glad you did.
You want another tasty tasty artist you have never heard of?
Tommy Bolin- " Poast Toastee" (75)
The greasiest, funkiest tastiest guitarist/ artist that ever lived RIP
The hardest and best songs you haven't reacted to yet; "Future Tense", "21st century Schizoid Man" & of course "I Like To Rock".
This song kicks ass! One of my 2 favourite Canadian rock bands of all time along with Rush.
One of my favorite April Wine song is Before the dawn.
Jimmy Clench was a great Vocalist aside from being a great Bass Player...
Sounded Deep Purpley at times.
I saw another comment making reference to Chilliwack; have a listen to Fly At Night by them.
Didn’t care for this one..
First heard them in 73 and this is the song I heard. I was hooked on them and many other Canadian bands, of course Rush being one of them.
Fast train off their frist album well worth it
Prism is a great Canadian Band.
Armageddon, Spaceship Superstar, Take Me to the Kaptin, Night to Remember, Don't Let Him Know, Turn on Your Radar, Young and Restless
Hey, Could you plz react to Mornin’, The Theme from Moonlighting and Just to be Loved by Al Jarreau?
Try "Say Hello" and "Enough is Enough" major hits eh
Another great Canadian Band kept from you by that wall they put up to keep you from them is Junkhouse...and nobody has reacted to them yet...check out the songs: Out Of My Head, Praying For The Rain, Shine and Dig It. (Dig it was done by Tom Wilson on his own)
April Wine was a phenominal band in the 70's. Canada had a lot of good rock bands in the 70's Rush, Triumph, Moxy to name a few
I've been an April Wine fan since the '80s...when Nature of the Beast came out. That one opened the door for a lot of fans in the USA. I had no idea Roller was an April Wine song until then, but I've never heard this song! Pretty cool guys. I think you nailed the reaction and assessment of this song. Thanks for posting.
Alot of people seem to forget this is 1974. Way way ahead of their time.
You want a hard hitting song, April Wine. Say Hello
BUDGIE...BREADFAN..1973..
Oh Canada ...again.. :)
As a canadian you guys do a great job but due to listening to your video with your talk lol america is 200 million people lol canada is probably 40 million lol so maybe for every American song you play you could at least play two canadian songs lol just having gum with you guys lol great job as always love listening and watching your vids
Great band and Great song. Bassplayer Jim Clench singin great on this one. Great react btw.
Been listening to April Wine for almost 40 yrs now since middle school at least. They were a huge staple on kshe 95 in St. Louis MO back in the late 70's thru the 2000's anyway. As I have seen others say "I like to rock" is their second best song behind "roller", a must for you guys to react to. Then "shotdown" should be after that, I would say their 3rd best song. Also eventually songs like "all over town", "rock myself to sleep" and "just between you and me" which is their power ballad. Lots of great stuff really from them. I Got to see them once in concert in 94 or 95 which I had to leave early before they got to the songs I mentioned because of some drunk chick kept spilling beer on my fiance and she got pissed and we ended up leaving early before she nearly punched the chick out. I was so bummed😢 I didn't get to hear their best songs. Such is life tho😆
April Wine Silver Dollar
SARAYA.. LOVE HAS TAKEN IT'S TOLL
HQ..
.
April Wine has two great live albums. Live at El Mocambo and April Wine Live. Both are early in their careers and very impressive. The Band Has Just Begun is a great live track.
another one of their early ones is - bad side of the moon
need to check out april wine rock myself to sleep
Another Candian great band with great vocals and prog on top SAGA !
April Wine - You Won't Dance With Me is really different and a beautiful song as well. SURPRISE yourself with a listen
Play electric jewels
React to more April Wine. They got better in the late 70’s and early 80’s.
Weeping Widow and Oowatanite were sung by bass player Jim Clench
The guys are awesome. Check out their cover of King Crimson's 21st Century Schizoid Man.
You Guys have got to do
April Wine- " If You See Kay" (sounds like F- U- C- K) !! You guys have probably heard more April,Wine than most people.
Believe only hit in the U.S was
" Sign of The Gypsy Queen" know you already checked) which classic rock station rarely play anymore.
Was more of an MTV hit in the 80's
Try another Canadian band "Prism". Spaceship Superstar or Take Me to The Kaptin.
If you waqnt to go deep into AW and hear some great musicianship, check out their cover of King Crimson's "21st Century Schizoid Man". And doing King Crimson themselves would be great if you can keep them from blocking you. You should also do Deep Purple's "Child In Time"--there is a good live version on video, and, besides the studio version on the In Rock album, the live version on Made In Japan is stellar.
Interesting. April Wine.
Let me sip on some Kentucky bourbon and give it another listen.
Really think yall would love Before the dawn by April Wine
This is great music!! Great vocals!!!!! Try .... Oowatanite
Listen to Slow Poke, nice little rocker by the wine!
Always thought Ozzy would do an awesome cover of that song
This is some of April Wine's best gents.
Yes! work your way through their music. I only know the popular stuff, so good job guys....
One of my favorite April Whine is Roller and I like to rock. Check them out.
Who the hell requested this??? You MUST listen to "I Like to Rock". And everyone will agree with me.
I Like to Rock formula pop rock in comparison to Weeping Widow. Now Live when they stretch them out and let loose then both were tight. I only listen to AW Live, where they stretch and get out of the pop rock flavouring they used on 95% of their hit singles cuts. Roller might be the one tune where they let loose on the album, and when Live it is proven to be their best.
Gentlemen, in light of the passing of April Wine's vocalist Myles Goodwin', you might consider reviewing another song, perhaps Say Hello....
Great reaction! You definitely gotta check out "Bad Side Of The Moon" and "Say Hello" by them!!!!!!!
Love your new intro! So my first reaction to listening to this: it sounds like a song you would hear at night at a fair when you walk down the midway where the games and rides are. I can picture walking with all the lights and this playing overhead... For sure has 70's vibe. All their songs are so different than the other... Just Between You and Me is a slow (love song if you will). But it they are good either way!
Some Canadian bands regardless of how good they were could never break through in the US.
Keep it up with April Wine guys! I invite you to listen to FAST TRAIN. Start soft... then the blast
This has an early Rush feel...
Love the variety of your reactions. I'm of the age I should know more about this band then I do ( 52 ). This song has elements of Rush, Kiss, and the psych movement. An odd mix but it works..🎼🎼
The Warning are a sister power trio. newest single lrics and vid link follows
Hey !!
I don't want to break this down to you
It's a cruel thing that we learn to do
Cause we all gotta pay for something
We all gotta kill for nothing
Happiness has its price
Less isn't more in this business
Rapacity will be the illness
That we will learn to love
Are you worth your weight in gold?
Going once, going twice, sold
It's all about that cold hard cash hon
Go ahead and cry shallow pools of blood
Diamond noose at your throat
Moral code updates three times a year
Truth that's dipped in gold just as sincere
I'll never ask for forgiveness
I come with god as my witness
I pray he'll wash my hands
It's sad and that's true and the world hurts
Sold your soul that's how it works
We're human after all
Are you worth your weight in gold?
Going once, going twice, sold
It's all about that cold hard cash hon
Go ahead and cry shallow pools of blood
Diamond noose at your throat
Give me that
I want that
Give me that
I want that
Go ahead and cry shallow pools of blood
How long will it last? How long till you learn?
'Nother stack of sins to be buried in
Diamond noose at your throat
Hey
Go ahead and cry shallow pools of blood
How long will it last? How long till you learn?
'Nother stack of sins to be buried in
Diamond noose at your throat

As an avid April Wine fan from way before you were all born, you’ve got to listen to I like to Rock. Especially the Day tripper and Satisfaction riffs at the end. Amazing check it out
One of my AW favourites! Only other song the late Jim Clench sang was the equally great Oooowatanite.
Yeah, my initial thought was that you guys probably wouldn't like this song too much. I will say when I first heard this on their _Greatest Hits_ album, I was a bit taken aback by the song, especially since the lead vocals were clearly not those of Myles Goodwyn. Instead, they were by (at that time) newly-joined bass guitarist Jim Clench, who sang the absolute fuck out of this song.
I agree the song is a bit all over the place. Jim Clench sings most of the song as if he had just joined The Beatles, and then the rest of it in a very raucous, high-pitched Heavy Metal way. Definitely a very different April Wine track, and yet another example of why they were definitely a Heavy Metal band, instead of just Hard Rock.
DEFINITELY do "Oowatanite" and "Tonight Is A Wonderful Time To Fall In Love" from the great (and appropriately-titled) _Stand Back_ album, as well as "I Like To Rock," "Say Hello," "Tonite," "Before The Dawn" and their amazing Metal cover of the 1969 King Crimson mega-classic "21st Century Schizoid Man" from their wonderful (and also appropriately-titled) _Harder...Faster_ album. And don't forget about "Just Between You And Me," "Caught In The Crossfire," "Big City Girls," "Bad Boys" and "One More Time" from the incredible _The Nature Of The Beast_ album. 🤘🏻🐻🤘🏻
You need to view April Wine Say Hello.Mind blowing song. Can't find a reaction on line. It needs to be heard
April wine. Saw them in 2001 sounded great 30 years in.
It's strange for me that some of the other Canadian bands got bigger than April Wine, but that's just people's tastes I guess. April Wine and Streetheart are for me the top Canadian bands. Very good live bands in their heyday! 21st Century Schizoid Man.
some early 70s canadiana - Crowbar - Oh What a Feeling
Thank you for some more Wine. You gotta check out "Here's Looking at you Kid" from Attitude in 1992.
I Like to Rock was there most popular banger that got huge air play in the day.
You should give a listen to Oowatanite from April Wine
