They should have have 2 drummers to compliment their 3 dueling lead guitars like some of the Southern rock bands and long jam bands did.. like the Allman Brothers, the Outlaws, Widespread Panic, Goverment Mule, the Grateful Dead.. King Crimson actually had 4 drummers at certain times..

Well there you have it another classic for the book of Elok, such an awesome band they were, the only reason I know of this band as well as the rest of the Canadian bands of that era was the fact of living near the border of Canada and Minnesota, close to Winnipeg. I really loved those days and are greatly missed. To this day I still have April Wines entire collection and their albums "Harder N Faster", "First Glance", and Nature of the Beast were the ultimate albums written in rock history

Elok.. Thankyou for your little history of this band I haven't heard there name in years... I never knew they were from Canada when they formed you educated me on them... Yes of the more known Canadian Bands they were underrated I dont remember them getting alot of air play at least here in the U.S.A.. The only Candian bands I knew back then and today is because of frequent air play were RUSH B.T.O. And Triumph once again thankyou for your history lesson on this underrated band

Glad you loved it :) I'm in my 50's and to be honest the reason this band didn't get any airplay in the US because for some reason the US radio stations either were not allowed to play Canadian music or they just didn't want to at that time (: Sad but true . Soo many Canadian rock bands, (when they 1st came out way back then ), got ignored by the US market back then and hence never got the recognition they deserved. Sorry for rambling :) Peace and Love from Canada eh :) sorr :)

the reason i believe was the british invasion back in the sixties, they were not going to let that happen again , even the great band rush didnt get much airplay for a long time didnt work with them though geddy lee tells the story about one us disc jockey sneaking on songs by rush that he wasnt supposed to play lol, and the rest they say is history they are now in the rock and roll hall of fame

The biggest reason April Wine was largely unknown in the USA was because their manager at the time ignored the USA market, he was not interested in marketing or having April Wine play in USA. Plus, (with all due respect to most Canadians) some Canadians are a bit snotty and don't care about giving us their imports. (I'm truly sorry, but sometimes true)

I hired April Wine in 1975 as the main act in Oshawa, Ont, Canada. They were not just great musicians but super nice guys. I had booked many bands before this and some were arrogant, thinking they were big stuff while others like Myles Goodwin and the rest of April Wine were super chill. They are still around although I think only Myles is from this late 70's line up. In fact they are playing at my local theatre later this year. Cheers.

Good April Wine songs are You Could Have Been a Lady, I Wouldn't Want to Lose Your Love, Lady Run Lady Hide, Oowatanite, Tonite is a Wonderful Time to Fall in Love, Fast Train, Drop Your Guns, Like a Lover Like a Song, Weeping Widow, and You Won't Dance With Me.

actually this song was a hit in the states think it went to number 7 , they toured with the rolling stones back in the seventies and mick jagger called them the next big super band, they were very successful in canada and in europe , miles goodwin the lead singer still tours with the band in canada seen them about 3 years ago still sound great, many canadian band also should have been big in the states but at the time if you were from canada they didnt get played much in us airwaves , think it all go back to the british invasion and they were not letting that happen again , they must had at least 20 to 25 hit songs in canada probably more , its really a shame they should have been 10 times bigger then they were seems they always had bad record companies and bad management. if you like the band miles goodwin wrote his autobiography few years ago called just between you and me that was another great song they recorded .

You have adorable Rock enjoyment. At this rate, we are going to have to stick you in the time machine and take you to one of these concerts. I have seen hundreds and have barely stayed sane. Ha ha! One thing I don’t think the new people fully understand is that these shows were incredibly LOUD. I mean some were SUPER LOUD, like yelling in the ear of the person next to you as loud as you can and they still can’t hear you LOUD. Like 2 inches from the side of their head! We smoked a lot of weed at these things too. I’m not recommending that, it was a different scene back then and it was just part of it. I won’t lie and say it wasn’t fun because it was. It was too much fun and we took great pride in doing it right. Concert night was a SCENE! It was all the Hard Rock PARTY People revved up in one spot. Ready for action! It was a rowdy scene. The shows were fantastic! These bands live is what it was all about. You just can’t appreciate what theses guys could do unless you went to the show. It was extremely impressive and powerful. Guaranteed good time! Wow is a word a lot of people used.

I'm probably one of the few that would put Triumph one, April Wine second and Rush third as far as all-time Canadian bands. Don't hate me.

I’ve heard the name of the band but never checked out any of their music, so thank you for introducing them to me Elok! That was an enjoyable bit of boogie to kick off my day. I guess if you have three lead guitarists, you are going to get a lot of guitar solos, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing! Great stuff! 🤘🏻👍🏻

Damn! I’ve just read that Tawny Kitaen has died at 59! 😢 She was the star of some memorable Whitesnake videos from the late 1980s and David Coverdale’s wife for a time. She was also an actor. Perhaps you could react to Whitesnake’s “Still of the Night” or their 1987 remake of “Here I Go Again” as a tribute to her? Those videos made quite an impression on many a teenage boy back in the day. R.I.P. Ms Kitaen! 🙏🏻

I had one of their albums but had no idea they had three guitarists! That’s rare.I think I want to go back and listen to more of their music now. Nice to hear this song again, another excellent selection, Elok. I like the story about their California festival appearance. That’s cool. Hopefully no fights from this video but you never know. The coffee tip might help some discontents.

Hello elok again. That was the time of mid 70s platform shoe rock. By the way, following on from yesterday's yes video, I would recommend the band kajagoogoo and their only hit song called too shy. It really captures the 80s sound. Lots of love from London josh.

Yes you are right Elok. Dual and triple lead guitars are quite rare. Except in some Southern rock and long jam bands like the Allman Brothers, the Outlaws.. in the late 1970's, Thin Lizzy did some concerts with 4 lead guitars.. on the "Live Life" album.

Hi Elok. You can look up Thin Lizzy Live concerts around 1978, or the "Live Life" album if you want to see 4 guitars. I would select the songs "The Boys are Back in Town, or "Cowboy Song " I'm not sure if they show the 4 lead guitars or not, but they had them around that time. Thanks Elok!
