Former police officer Aaron Dean on Thursday was sentenced to 11 years and 10 months in prison after shooting and killing Atatiana Jefferson in her Texas home in 2019.

He could have knocked on the front door of Atatiana to make sure everyone was alright. But he didn't. A reasonable person would not go into a stranger's backyard, with flashlights without telling an owner that you are back there. It puts their lives in jeopardy. What kind of person does that?? You don't have to be a cop to know that is a crazy thing to do. This cop just felt empowered to do anything he wanted because he wears a badge, and even go onto the personal property of a homeowner.

Those responsible for justice in this case failed to pursue it. They were only interested in possibly preventing a riot. 12 years is an absolute kick in the teeth to Ms. Jefferson's family and the Black American community.
