- A jury on Tuesday sentenced former Fort Worth police officer Aaron Dean to 11 years, 10 months and 12 days in prison for the 2019 killing of Atatiana Jefferson. A jury found Dean, who was initially indicted on a murder charge, guilty of manslaughter last week for fatally shooting Jefferson, a Black woman, through the rear window of her Texas home. The sentence did not make Dean eligible for parole, and he will need to serve at least half of his prison sentence to be eligible. Watch CBS DFW's coverage.

They didn’t even put him in cuffs after the sentencing was read. He got the Star treatment, got to eat lunch with his family and hang out with them before sentencing even though he was in custody after he was found guilty by the jury in the trial. SMH
IKR, And he had been taken into custody after his conviction.

He should have got the 20 yrs I’m shocked

This is not his first time. Thank God because he's a danger to society.
11 years? Should have been more than that.
Im suprised they gave him this amount of time. I expected 5 yrs max. Thankfully, the family can at least know someone else agreed that this officer was negligent. Rest Peacefully Atatiana Jefferson. My heart breaks for this family. Aaron Dean couldn’t care less. The person who said the system was set up to protect and serve him was absolutely right. We the people have allowed this behavior, this system for way too long. Maybe this is a first step in healing but their grief will always be there.

He’s scared I saw him gulp
Where is that same arrogance he had when he was on the stand?
I saw that too. Good. He needs to suffer.
The victim statements had me in tears!! IMO Aaron Dean did NOT get what he deserved! He is a murderer that really needed life in prison. He did so many things wrong and so did FWPD!
Positive side.. I believe FINALLY something will be done with officers who think they have power and do not abide by the law (and think they can get away with it) It may be a slow process but we are getting there.
Praying for the Jefferson/Carr family...I know this hurts! We will keep Atatiana's light shining!
The FACT that he will serve less than five years leaves the verdict meaningless
That measly sentence is a DAMN SHAME and a COMPLETE INSULT to ATATIANA , her FAMILY, and BLACK PEOPLE EVERYWHERE. He'll be out in 5 years, if he SURVIVES.
I agree! And, he wasn't even handcuffed and lead out of court after the verdict. Anyone else found guilty would have been manhandled, handcuffed and aggressively lead out of court!
You are 100 percent correct. The amount of time he will have to serve is wholly insufficient and an insult to the pain and anguish of Atatiana's family - and what a wonderful family she was and still is a part of. God bless you Jefferson/Carr family. God give you peace and healing in your heart as you navigate the future without your beloved sister.
I have a cousin who at 18 helped rob a pizza store with a fake gun and got 16 years. It was his first offense. Not saying my cousin didn’t deserve some time, but really, 16 years vs 11 for neglectfully killing someone you were called to protect?
@@monicarenee7949 Your cousin is lucky he wasn't shot in the face.
Aaron is also lucky he was not shot in the face.
Should be out in 2 and hope he does.
By having such low vetting, education and training standards we do ourselves and the majority of police a disservice. He got what he deserved.
He deserved life. Sorry
They knew he was unsuitable and still hired him.
But he was well educated he was a narcissist. Better psychological testing.
Hopefully the other inmates can get some time alone with him in prison.
You know them woods will protect him yo the fullest. Cops have it kosher in a camp with non violent offenders under the protection of his fellow correctional officers
He’ll NEVER step foot in general population
He was a white cop from Texas so this is not surprising to me
5-1/2 years for killing a

Back to the trailer park for Dean’s family

He should of got more time. But the Texas police dept was partially responsible because the police psychologist told the department that he was not! fit to be a police officer. But they ignored the evaluation and hired him anyway.

Interesting how he was convicted of manslaughter but received a more severe sentence than Amber Guyger.
Because he should’ve gotten LIFE and he didn’t do the white man alligator tears and cry for his fellow nazi’s

What I find the most disturbing is he gave himself a B* for his policing that night while a young black woman lay dead. He did not care if she lived or died on that floor no aid was rendered. so sos sad but this Is america.

14:44 “ he’s your prisoner , sheriff “ that was savage judge.. perfect
Wait he has to do half before eligible for parole. And he gets time served… Been in custody since 2019. Almost 4 years already served. Let’s just say he got 12 years flat. In 2 years he’ll ALREADY be eligible for parole. That’s crazy!! Justice system can be tricky.
He hasn’t been in custody these last three years.. He has five years before he can be paroled. He may not make it!
Was he not out on bond for the past three years? He was only taken into custody after the verdict or not? Does the bond time get counted as part of time served in custody. Oh heavens I hope not.
Once a cop is convicted they should be sentenced just like any other criminal.
I wanted to see his face at sentence. The smirk is gone.
I guess no qualified immunity here accountability
Oh momma, I'm so sorry for your pain
In all honesty he actually got more time than I thought he would, that speaks to his negligence in this case! He went to Atatiana Jefferson's home with an attitude of supreme power and righteousness and that attitude is still with him today and it's sickening! 😩 Hopefully some time during his sentence he will actually think about the life he took away from the world, that is my hope and prayer, as his face disgusts me! 😩😩😩
He will never learn he had 3 years to learn and he still doesn’t care the lake of remorse should have been enough to give him life or the full 20 no parole
A lot of the people that don't understand the justice system, would take the words of the judge and not understand them. Listen to what he said very carefully, he gave that man credit for time served, from the beginning of the case up until that very day of sentencing, meaning that man has to only serve 2.5 years to be eligible for parole and will probably walk right on out, cause this case has been going on for 3 years, so his house arrest is being accredited, as part of the sentence. They be playing right on our face and we don't even flinch, cause they see us as dumb.
Little steps.
he deserves much more time, I don't know what was going thru his mind at the time but I'm sure it had something to do with racism
🎯🎯🎯🎯
Done.
11years not enough that judge should get 22 very byass
This Judge is the WORST. Why isn’t Dean in shackles??? He shld be treated like any other CRIMINAL. CUFF HIM
The guy should of just admitted screwing up and taking her life, he would have gotten more respect. But like usual they deny, deny and deny.
11 years!!! What a slap in her family's face...
N E W L O N D O N, Conn., Sept. 8, 2000 -- A man whose bid to become a police officer was rejected after he scored too high on an intelligence test has lost an appeal in his federal lawsuit against the city.
The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New York upheld a lower court’s decision that the city did not discriminate against Robert Jordan because the same standards were applied to everyone who took the test.
Jordan, a 49-year-old college graduate, took the exam in 1996 and scored 33 points, the equivalent of an IQ of 125. But New London police interviewed only candidates who scored 20 to 27. They don't want people that are smart and critical thinkers. They want order followers.
He gets only 12 years, but she's dead forever.. How is it possible?
Good thing he go to prison and not in his jail.....
Can someone please help me Understand the entire situation in the shortest form possible …. Did the officers go to the Wrong House or ?….
Look up you tube. He was at the correct house, but did not announce his presence. Was sneaking around the back yard in the dark, at 2 am. Saw her through a window, shouted hands up and shot through the window immediately after without waiting even a second for a response. This beautiful 20 something was protecting her nephew from what she thought was a prowler in her yard.
I might get in trouble for this but 10 years and 10 months is not enough for ending another person's life forever..
Another slap on the wrist smh
yeah, hope he is out in 2.
He never showed any remorse even when he took the stand. He never took this case serious.
He'll be out in 3-4 years, that's bull
hopefully out in 2
No handcuffs?
How unreservedly dignified.
How many days of time served will he have credited towards his total sentence?
3 or 4 days
@@bbg7777 Oh Ok thx for the info
0 days.... He posted bond within 4 hours of been arrested....
@@winniethepoohandeeyore2 0 days..... He was only there for 4 hours after arrested.
@@uneedasims1266 Ok I didn't think that made sense. He should have zero days credited then. I know he had bonded out but didn't know it was the same day, much less 4 hours after he was taken into custody. Nevermind being free on bond this entire time. He was taken into custody right after his conviction. Are they by any chance counting that time up to today of sentencing?
He not sorry look at him he look like I can't believe they doing this to me I am a cop

Can anyone explain their relationship?
What about how they went after the auditors after the trial?
Sad on all front!!! This is what racism looks like. Killing of a human who no doubt would have had a conversation with you had you engaged her.
Cops make mistakes all the time, but when you don’t try to help the injured victim that’s something else. 😢
What sort of sentencing is that 11years terrible
Will somebody please tell me who his Attorney is? I don't care if that woman had just pulled the pin out of a hand-grenade that she was gonna chuck at him, she was in her own home! 10 years is a "cake walk", NOT a "sentence"!!!
He will do 4 years and be out. But his prison stay will be a soft prison somewhere. He will do easy time. He will go to a Texas prison but they will ship him out to somewhere else for his “safety”
Something is off about that judge…..
Let me get that suit homie
That's it?
Over 11 years???! 11??? If it was a blackcop and a white woman... how many years then? Double? Triple?
11 years..not good as 20 but still that man will serve at least 5-7 before be eligible for parole.. Hopefully he seves all 11 .. Don't drop the soap ..

Why are cops sentencing so light! Dont understand.
The family should sue the state he should never became a police officer
The person he killed pointed a gun at him right? Or whats the deal?
No, he said she pointed a gun at him. Enforcers lie.
She saw a suspicious person creeping around her house an armed herself. Government employees should expect people to do this and they should behave accordingly.
Sneaking around her backyard trespassing at 2 am. She looked out a window to investigate and he shot through it killing her.
SHE WAS IN HER HOUSE. He didn't announce himself. YESSSS she got her gun like any homeowner might.
