This faction breaks many of the staple conventions of Total War by being slow militarily, having to replace their basic labourers with some of the most elite units in the entire game. One of the most complete and powerful rosters needs to be blended with strong economics and statesmanship, but once fielded, nothing will stop you. Unique technologies and mechanics that make this race a must play and an absolute powerhouse in Immortal Empires. More of a mud early game, but in a norsca run I had Surtha Ek + 4 ice wolf chariots and a marauder core.
      I arranged 8 marauders into a line: 2 units close together + a wide gap then the next group of two. I then had the chariots behind this formation. The rest composed of skirmishers (huntsmen/horsemasters).
      The idea is pretty simple: the chariots go straight through the lanes once the lines start to engage. I was able to muck down any threats to the chariots early, and they were able to have a pretty clean charge through these lanes into the back lines.

      @@ElvenPlotArmour Answers to questions like "How many Waywatchers are too many?"" and "Do I need infantry to hold the flanks at all with an Arrow of Kurnous Glade Lord leader?" would be nice. :)
      Also, of course, good army compositions which use the wild variety of melee units, besides an "all Tree Men and some heroes" spam. :p
      For the standard "two infantry and two heroes to hold the front, one infantry at each side in the back" formation, which heroes to bring, since Waywatchers and even Glade Captains feel a bit squishy when used for that. Also, which infantry to use, since Eternal Guard also quickly feel a bit overwhelmed. Are Tree Kin good for that role?
      Thanks for responding!

    • @Crucial_End
      @Crucial_End Год назад +1

      I second this! Composition and tactics using mixed armies of WE would be really cool particulary if the mid to high tier elf melee units are involved😁

    • @ElvenPlotArmour
      @ElvenPlotArmour  Год назад

      @@magnuskno Honestly, Waywatchers are so good you really can't have too many. Gladeguard are amazing in the early game and you only realyl need a couple of infantry to hold the flanks, and a couple of missile cav to skirmish is nice but not essential - I'm a big fan of having 1-2 units of Hawk Riders in any army and holding ALT to cycle dive into enemy archers. Captains are very good and can be levelled to hold the line until on an Eagle to accompany your riders. Treekin really aren't that essential in my eyes with the standard WE Lords, but they're excellent with the tree LL's . Late game 2-4 Treemen 8-14 Waywatchers with whatever support you wish will be able to handle most things and is an anchor to any powerful army you desire. Throw in some heroes, you don't need melee infantry, but bringing 2 to screen can do good things. You'll need to be a bit more aggressive with the Wood Elves to get the most out of them, at least with your flanking units, but they're rewarding and I didn't expect to like them so much.

    Throw a few magma cannons into Gorduz's army and they are a legitimate endgame capable army with all of his buffs. With the insane resistances and ward save the gobbos can get it is also shockingly good in auto resolve (L/VH).
    Overseer lord (on foot for excellent tanking + better buffs for the army - since he doesn't have magic to throw points into you can max out more blue line stuff), flying wizard(s) for poke, magic and arty vanguard/repair, Castellan with shotgun for another line holder and a centaur hero to goon squad single entities with Gorduz.
    Complete army is:
    Overseer Lord (gobbo and arty buffs - Take most of the good blue line stuff too, the lord is just fine without his full yellow line)
    Wizard (Hashut because thematic - Drop an archer or Git unit and throw in a second fire wizard on a lamassu for crazy synergy with ash storm, magic weapon negation and magic attack imbue)
    Gorduz (if you only put the 3 points in replenishment in his blue stuff you can max out pretty much everything else)
    Castellan (campaign buffs and excellent line holding if you go with the shotgun line)
    Bull Centaur Hero (much needed AP and single entity killing presence which the army is a bit low on)
    5 Sneaky Gits (they hold just fine and shred infantry when ranked up)
    5 Archers (they have a huge pile of ammo and can shoot for the entire fight clearing walls of enemy ranged units)
    2 Archer Cav units for harassment and to take out enemy arty (these guys have 133 speed and are legit in melee too deleting mortar teams in seconds on the charge - Run the RoR and a generic one with the frenzy banner)
    A Dreadquake Train (I use the RoR one for memes - manually target as friendly fire is devastating on the gits)
    2 Magma Cannons (every army should have at least 2 of these, best arty the faction has - do you also manually fight Decisive Low battles just to watch these things work?).
    All of the goblins at rank 9 have 10% ward save, 20% physical resistance, 25% missile resistance, an absurdly buffed stat line with armour being the only thing lacking, vanguard and stalk.
    The short victory item you can get, Salve of Valaya, gives even more physical resistance to the gobbos and enables replenishment in foreign territory. Roam around in ambush stance replenishing to full over the end turn and burning the Empire towns like a beastmen horde. Give it a go, it's cheap, powerful and very very fun!

    I liked giving Gorduz, fire sorceror prophet and a stack of elite sneaky gits. They can pull off some crazy victories against dwarves with their stalk. Have the lord thin out an army with magic and eventually move in the sneaky gits to pick off any stragglers. For sieges have the lord fly into a blob of infantry, drop AoE magic and AoE abilities like the dreadquake battery, then move in the sneaky gits. It was hilarious when Gelt came to aid Karaz-a-Karak and his hellstorm rocket doomstack was completely countered by my sneaky git stack. I flew in my fire & metal sorc, wreaked havoc with magic, sneaky gits came in and picked off his artillery and handgunners with their throwing daggers.

      Sneaky gits (like many stealth units) can provide incredible value in the right hands. It does require a good general but you're spot on and sounds like you've got your "covert hobgoblin" game down pact!

    I must be doing something wrong, but the enemy just runs in and wrecks this formation. and it seems the blunderbusses have no problem first taking out your own units in order to get to the enemy units. That said a rarely pick a ranged heavy faction, i don't know how to effectively play with them, i just know its pretty easy to beat them. pin the ranged units with cheap-ass fast movers then come in with you 0 ranged units melee army and go to work.

      Deathshriek have some decent utility and their firing arc works excellent in sieges. You can absolutely sub this out for a Magma Cannon. The advantage of the rockets is less friendly fire when the enemy engages, which it likely will at some point - though you should have lots of ranged targets with the Magma Cannon (which overall is a standout unit!)

      Glad to help out! The biggest early strength is the front commonly used here of the blunderbuss peering between the front 3 Warriors. Gunning down their characters with Blunderbusses is very decisive. 2-3 in any army is a must. Always have the shielded Warriors and then get your heroes on the field ASAP. Research allows you to get x2 Tauruk and x2 Sorc along side your Castlen (extra movement). 1 Tauruk on the front of each flank will do wonders to protect you, and if you can get a unit of shielded bull centaurs behind them (See the Astragoth formation here) you'll have all the time you need. The magma cannon is excellent but can friendly fire, so keep them aiming at archers and distant enemies.... wait a sec, I just realised you're talking about playing the regular Dawi??
