@@natecloe8535 What she specifically said was that the Holocaust was not about race because in the end it was one group of white people killing another group of white people. To me, it depends on what you mean by "it's about race." Hitler and other white supremacists think Jewish people are a separate race so in that sense, yes, it was a racial issue. But with most Jewish people being white, it's pretty apparent that from an objective point of view, the Nazis' thinking was wrong. So what Whoopi said was tone-deaf but I don't think she was completely wrong. Hitler was basically an art-school dropout who fancied himself an expert on history and anthropology when he was nothing of the sort. Not the brightest bulb in the chandelier. Just had some charisma and some connections, that's all. Any time you get a humanities student who fancies themselves a scientist when they haven't even seriously studied the sciences you get some pretty crazy stuff going on. I mean, we're seeing that now with certain issues too, and it's causing a lot of problems.
I should also point out that in Hitler's time, people still said "race" when they meant "species" so that's another way the white supremacists were wrong. They tried arguing that black people and white people were two different species, and white people were the human beings and I don't know what they thought black people were. But that's why they had things like laws against interracial marriage. They viewed white people marrying black people as equivalent to a white person marrying, say, a horse. It was a completely disgusting point of view and that's why people argue today that race is a social construct. They don't mean skin color, they mean this whole idea that black people and white people are different in any meaningful way and that black people are therefore inferior. Obviously, insert "Jewish person" or "Latino person" or any other racialized-person term for "black person" and it's the same thinking. And wrong in all cases. People are people. We're all the same species. Thus the same "race."

Several actresses turned down the role of Molly thinking the script was too silly.
Whoopi Goldberg was turned down outright. Patrick Swayze thought SHE turned it down. When they were having so much trouble casting that part he said to the producers and directors how he couldn't understand why she'd turn it down believing it was perfect for her. When they told him THEY were the ones who rejected her he told them he wouldn't do it unless they at least gave her a screen test. They had never met.
They all flew to where Whoopi was was shooting another movie. The moment Whoopi and Patrick laid eyes on each other, for the very first time, they started laughing, hugging and kissing each other like they were old friends. The chemistry was instant! They remained close friends for the rest of his life.

I love how much you love these "old" movies -- love listening to your comments and watching your reactions. I especially love movie locations in NYC, where I lived for 17 years in Manhattan, because every NYC location scene is a memory for me. I have many memories of NYC, the most wonderful city in the world. When Ghost came out I was working down in the financial area back in 1990. I worked across the street from the North Tower in the American Express building. This movie was also so great to me because I love Whoppie -- and I got to see her in her first one-woman show in NYC. Long, wonderful story about that. It was a surprise guift from friends who knew I was in theatre but sadly had to give it up, but stayed in the city anyway until about 1996. I'm glad you are liking this (I paused watching you to send you this note.). You've got me hooked on your RUclips channel! Another film love for the locations and my time in NYC is You've Got Mail. Many locations in my neighborhood and watching the old way we used to communicate with that technology back then. I watch that one, too. Or were they comparing their voices to other singers they have reacted to so far. I can't be too sure because I have only watched their edited reaction to this movie. With this version, it does appear that that may not have recognized that song they reacted to before. I agree on your second point because in the 80s that song became popular again at weddings and oh the romantic unique couple dances we got to see when that song was played! Amazing! 👍

The line where Sam says the live inside, you take it with you, that’s the truth right there! Straight talk here: I was getting married. I met my fiancée, Erin, on a random comment thread on Facebook and sent her a friend request, which she accepted. Turned out she was also local to me. It also turned out that she was the daughter of a woman I had worked with many years before (in the party company I work for as a clown). Her mom had been trying to set the two of us up together for years but Erin wasn’t interested in being set up with someone. But we found each other on our own. This is how I know, one hundred percent, that the two of us were meant to be together. However, we were not meant to be together for the rest of our lives, just her’s. I lost her last year after a long illness. I miss her so much and I think about her every day, but life has to go on. And it’s because of the love that we had that keeps me going on because that’s what she’d want me to do. I could very easily just shut down and hole myself up in my room. But she wouldn’t want that for me, she’d want me to do what I love to do and that’s making people happy. So that’s what I do. That’s what gets me up in the morning. Knowing that she loved me and would want the best for me. And if I did any less that would be a disgrace to her memory!

You're right - it's an unusual rom-com movie. It's got comedy, sorrow, danger, and at the heart of it, love. And everyone played their parts so beautifully. I was so excited for Whoopi when she won an Oscar. She deserved it. She was SO good in this. People think it's somehow easier to be funny so they tend to give the dramatic actors all the awards, but... there is also great skill in someone who can funny and poignant, like Whoopi in this film, or Marisa Tomei in My Cousin Vinny. OH DEAR GOD this might be my favorite (and from a fellow reactor/editor note) your best reaction posted because I loved all the commentary and I feel like you guys got it just right with scenes & your reactions & letting both flow a bit & breathe a bit. What I love too, AMBER! YOU TOTALLY GOT ME at the end with your "OOOH" because it took me back to my 1st time seeing it as a kid, it was Saturday sleepover at my grandma's place with my play-cousins, and we always watched comedy & horror (I had to be like 10 at this time), and I saw this title on cable & I thought it'd be something scary, and we missed maybe the 1st 20 mins, when we came in it was when Swayze first met Whoopi, we were all slightly disappointed that it wasn't horror, but that didn't last long, we were all reacting to every bit of every scene like you guys, and at that end........all you could hear was "aww's", sniffs, and nothing lol and we were all 4-10 lol. Whoopi Goldberg went on to become the 2nd black woman to ever win a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for this, and it's well deserved. It's funny how people today relate to her as "from The View", but man she was EVERYWHERE in the 90s, she had movies all over the place & her picture was everywhere. Some more Whoopi movies I HIGHLY recommend are The Color Purple (Starring Whoopi & Oprah & Danny Glover), The Sister Act movies (if you haven't seen those, they're both phenomenal & you all will LOVE the music), & Corrina Corrina

Swayze was still popular after his Dirty Dancing and Roadhouse success, meanwhile Moore was kind of on the back burner after the 80's and this movie helped to revitalize her career. Whoopi was already becoming a well known actress after The Color Purple and Jumpin' Jack Flash, and this movie was an exclamation point on her early acting career. Thanks for the great reaction! this was a pleasant surprise! I think you'd both love "Last of the Mohicans" another 90's romance movie, but this time also a sweeping historical epic. The 90's had a lot of really great romantic movies.

The subway guy killed himself by jumping in front of the train. That was symbolized when he got mad at Sam and jumped. Cursed to live eternity on the train.

You got to give props to Tony Goldwyn (Carl) as well. He played a backstabbing snake perfectly.

I tear up every time I hear the Righteous Brothers sing Unchained Meledy because of the scene where they were throwning the pottery wheel. This was never a simple RomCon movie, it touches the heart. The love Molly, you get to take it with you. Best line ever!!!

To this day, I can NOT watch Tony Goldwyn (Carl) without thinking of this movie. And it’s been 30+ years since this movie came out! I just knew you guys would love this movie. My husband & I quote this movie on a weekly basis, like “Molly, you in danger girl”, and “Damn baby, what’d you do to your hair?”. The story line is awesome ~ first you are laughing, then crying, then scared, then mad, then laughing, then sobbing. It’s not what you expect, and it’s the perfect movie. I read that Demi Moore is such a good actress, she can cry on command, and she can choose whether to make tears come from her right eye or left eye. If that’s true, that is some skill! Whoopi totally deserved her Oscar… Love you guys! Looking forward to more awesome movies from you. Have you seen The Usual Suspects? Check it out ~ you’ll love it…💕

Fun fact: Tony Goldwyn's grandfather was the "G" in MGM studios. I was surprised when I found out years ago. I highly recommend To Wong Foo, Love Julie Newmar, one of Patrick's fave and best performances.

Y’all did a great job on this reaction! I’m 70 and have watched this movie multiple times but it truly hits deep in my soul since my husband died in 2020. I would give anything to see him again. Keep up the good work and God bless❤️

Also funny story about Goldwyn who played Carl, He got so much heat over the years for playing the guy who killed Patrick in Ghost and I guess he went to this restaurant one time and the waitress was being rude and wouldn't serve him because she recognized him in Ghost. I think he told that story on the View? Can't remember exactly.

Fun story: my mum was on a coach trip to Italy with a load of pensioners, and they put Ghost on the in-coach movie screen. All the OAPs were staring at each other uncomfortably throughout the pottery scene, then somebody said "I've done pottery but it was never like that..." Later the Rep apologised: she'd never seen the movie before either and didn't know how sexy it was.

👏👏👏👏Bravo! I am so glad you reacted to this movie and enjoyed it as much as we did! You two reacted exactly the way we did when we watched it and Yes Amber it is thought provoking at the same time. Yes, yes, all the actors did a great job in this movie including Tony Goldwyn who portrayed Carl Burner. He was so convincing in his role I didn't like his character either! That means he did a good job as Carl! Kudos to all of them! Once again, this movie made my cry all over again, I haven't watched this in years it was a treat to see your reaction and enjoy it! ☮💕👍👏

Ghost is one of my favorite movies, like, ever. I never get tired of it no matter how many times I watch it. Arguably one of the most influential films in history (like how many times have you seen a parody of the pottery scene, right?).
Little fun fact about the demons. I forget where I heard or read it, but the sounds used for the demons are slowed-down audios of babies crying. Scared the absolute shit out of me when I was little. 😂

This film gave Whoopie her Oscar on a supporting role. When Patrick passed away, she stated on The View, she ONLY got the part out of his tremendous efforts to convince the producers, she was the right "Oda Mae Brown!"
And it's very special to me "coz it was my mom's favorite picture ever!
