Saw this in theaters. Great film. Whoopi got an Oscar for her performance. Patrick Swayze wouldn’t do the film without her, so she still credits him with getting her first Oscar. Still makes me shed tears every time I see it.

The statue of the angel being hoisted into the apartment is a nod to the opening sequence of Fellini's film "La Dolce Vita" (1960). Except in Fellini's film the statue is Christ the Redeemer dangling from a helicopter over the suburbs of Rome.

When my wife was ready to have our first child. She had to stay on the hospital to be observed before he was born. I got to stay with her and they had a tv and video player in the room. We were watching thuja movie when a nurse came in to check on her. She asked what we were watching, we told her Ghost. She said “Wow that sounds scary!” To this day we still laugh at it whenever this movie is on tv.

    Oh, my love, my darling
    I've hungered for your touch
    A long, lonely time
And time goes by so slowly
And time can do so much
    Are you still mine?
    I need your love
    I need your love
    Godspeed your love to me
    Lonely rivers flow
To the sea, to the sea
To the open arms of the sea, yeah
    Lonely rivers sigh
"Wait for me, wait for me"
I'll be coming home, wait for me
    Oh, my love, my darling
I've hungered, hungered for your touch
    A long, lonely time

This is a great movie, and I think Swayze's best role with a lot of emotional moments but also amusing as well. Oda May Brown is my favorite character, which earned Whoopie Goldberg a wells deserved Academy Award. Great reaction and I am always amused by the little singing things you do and the energy you always bring.

Jerry Zucker, along with David Zucker and Jim Abrahams, created zany comedies like Airplane! or The Naked Gun. The bit in the elevator is something Jerry Zucker had been doing for years with David Zucker and Jim Abrahams. They admitted it is even more effective nowadays because they got older.

When he was approached, Patrick Swayze demanded that Whoopi Goldberg get the part of Oda Mae. The producers weren't too sure if she'd work in the movie, but Patrick refused to work with anyone else.
Whoopi won an Oscar for the part.

    • @Wungolioth
      @Wungolioth 5 месяцев назад

It was pretty obvious Whoopi Goldberg got the nomination and won because of the Academy and its members' collective guilt that she didn't win for The Color Purple, and that happened because of the Academy's general beef with Spielberg at that time.

    - For those who were around back in the day, this movie did INSANE box office numbers, & stuck around in theaters for a while! AND it made UNCHAINED MELODY a hit song again.
    - I'm surprised no one's ever given the Otta May character her own spinoff. I know that they've done shows like GHOST WHISPERER, and MEDIUM, and all that, but to follow this charismatic character as she helps others by speaking with the dead (and using her skills as a former con artist) to solve crimes, just seems like something CBS would love (if they didn't already have the sitcom GHOSTS). This would be a great vehicle for an up & coming comedic actress (Whoopi has aged out, but she can certainly cameo as a different character from time to time). You could even have a season cliffhanger where Otta May's in a tough spot, and Sam (recast of course) comes back down, being given permission to help, or appears in a "dream" (but not really) after she's injured or something. There must be a streaming service that would grab this up. I feel like they're just leaving money on the table.

I like your perceptiveness. Before you had figured things out, you still could sense red flags about the shady characters. I do like how you also showed restraint, as well. You were quick to pick up what was happening, and you were able to predict where the film was going, yet you didn't spend every moment trying to solve everything, before the next thing was revealed. I like how you let the story unfold. Some people are so busy trying to guess what will happen next, that they are constantly asking questions, that get answered in the very next line of dialogue.
Ghost was a pretty unique film. Up to this point, most films with ghosts were about hauntings, or they were horror movies. This film had a little bit of everything. It even had a surprisingly hard hitting love story. It wasn't about legendary or historically significant characters, either. They were just average human beings, in an everyday setting. That made them easy to identify with. I am glad you enjoyed this film. It's a film that isn't talked about that much, anymore. It's a good experience, though. Even though the 80's get a lot of attention, the 90's were also a good time for movies, and this film was one of the bright spots. I enjoyed your perspective, when watching the film. I got a lot of laughs.

Greetings BissBeautiful. This has been one of my favorite reactions that you've done and to know that your mother recommended it makes it even better! Well done Bisscute and great recommendation Bisscutes' mom.
I'm glad that you enjoyed Ghost, I'm glad you gave it 4-out-of-5 stars, and happy that you seemed to really enjoy the movie.
Whoopi Goldberg was such a wonderful character and the love affair between Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore was very believable as well. Although you mentioned that some of the movie was predictable, it's still remains a classic that most everyone who's watched it likes it.

This is one of my favorite movies. Still have it on VHS somewhere. Haven't seen it in years and it was nice seeing your reaction to it.
Ghost was the highest grossing movie of 1990, making over $505 million dollars(over $930 million today). Whoopi Goldberg won an Oscar for it, as did the guy who wrote the screenplay, Bruce Joel Rubin.
Two other great movies that year were Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Die Hard 2.
Your mom is awesome just for this recommendation alone, and I hope she recommends another classic for you.

    Bisscute on Carl:
"He’s so full of shit, he eats it for breakfast."
Me: You eat pieces of shit for breakfast? 😂
    Carl: Pfft… NO!

You MUST watch and review “Without a Trace” (1983).
This movie has the most emotionally powerful ending of any movie I’ve watched. It always brings me to tears each and every time I see it.
It is also based on a true event at the time with some of the facts changed to make it acceptable to the cinema audience.

Movies with Demi Moore sporting short hair are box office hits. Consider reacting to the 1997 military action drama "G.I. Jane" also starring Viggo Mortensen.

"It's so important to have this closure in life".
She's right, but i must say something about it: imagine a 95 years old, sick with half of the illness known in medicine.
He's vomiting blood, the blood pressure drop, he is about to die.
Now, tell me, in all conscience: HOW MANY of the people around him would say "Godbye?"
At first, even if he has the most incurable diseases in the entire Universe, the relatives will say "you will overcome these moments, you will be fine, don't worry!"
When it's clear even to a 1 year old that he is dying, relatives will say nothing to him, "not to stress him more than he is". All of them will be talking about inheritance & stuff. How many of the people you know would say "Goodbye" to a close relative, especially if he is old, knowing he got few months, weeks or days to leave?
No! "All will be fine" "stop talking about death: it's weird", "you'll gonna make it". Death it's a tabu.
In the past centuries the dying people (especially between the XII & the XVI century) were left in a room close to the street with the doors opened, in order to allow people to stop by there so to pray with him (or for him); in order to speak & to collect evidences about how a bad death & a good death occur, etc.
Today, death is a tabu & in a few days you are buried & forgotten.
No more prayers for the dead, while the Bible order us to pray for them (2Mac, 12, 38-46).
Remember: in the time of death, you will bring with you nothing, but the love you gave to others. Nothing else.
