This movie came at a time when people were anticipating the new (prequel) Star Wars movies (and the Special Editions were just released), looking back fondly on movies like Blade Runner, and CG was just starting to get somewhat realistic looking. For sc-fi cinema nerds (like myself), this movie was a tall glass of water in the desert, especially for the guys - it had futuristic/cyberpunk sci-fi, Bruce Willis playing Die Hard in Space, a Gary Oldman villain, a fantasy element, aliens, a sense of humor and sexy girls everywhere. But, I just like to point it out as this movie has been an acquired taste for me, despite my baked in bias for all things French. Also, don't take it too seriously. It's still just a movie.
The language is great, it has an “interesting” story too- the director Besson came up with it and worked on the language with Leeloo’s actress Mila Jovovich who helped refine it so they could have full conversations with the about 400 words. At the time when this came out, Bruce Willis was a box office dynamo, like everything he was in, he was knocking out of the park. One of the previous movies he previously was in Armageddon and it was a world hit. So then came a running joke, about any movie that he was in, (What is he going to do to save the planet this time?) It was a strange coincidence that Hollywood seemed to hear what people were talking about, so they decided to answer that question, by putting out this movie.

For me, this is one of those movies that gets better on rewatch. It's very silly, and it does a lot of cliches, but it's also creative in odd ways. For instance, you said you thought he had the cigarette in his mouth the wrong way, but it was a cigarette with an ultra-long filter and almost no tobacco portion ... for your safety. As for Chris Tucker, IMO, it's practically his best role. Also, it's different because the aesthetic is French. If you see other French scifi, you might see some similarities.
The Chris Tucker role was originally written for Rockstar PRINCE but there were disagreements between the Director and PRINCE about his costumes so PRINCE quit the movie and Chris Tucker was hired ruclips.net/user/shortskZKvj9Ig8RY?si=citfsehkpJT8xudk

Glad you enjoyed this, thanks for watching
I don't think anyone really "gets" this movie's quirky humor on the first watch
My favorite reactress watching one of my most favorite movies. Incredible. I remember that while watching this in the theater when it first came out, I thought to myself "if I could watch this movie for the rest of my life, and do nothing else, I would die a happy man".
Great job, Biss. You made this fun to watch again.
I dressed up as ruby rod one time ehen i was transporting an army unit out of iraq, after they kept getting extended. I did the entire safety briefing and pallet loading with the same energy as ruby. Everyone but the sgt major and first sergeant appreciated the humor after all theyed been thru. The i hooked up a projector and sheet an played this movie during the flight to germany
I can confirm- Milla Jovovich is, indeed, perfect. ❤
You should watch the Resident Evil movies.
Love this film, watched it so many times, think it's probably my favourite.
One of my favorite movies. Saw it a few times in the theater, and still watch it any chance I get.
25:53 "Is he having a stroke?"
Nope. That's Chris Tucker. If you look up the word "flamboyance" in the dictionary, you _just_ might see his picture.
"Evacuate sheep!"
🤣
if i heard that, in truth... i'd probably head for the exit....
Many of the 'Elements' story wise and visually are from 'Heavy Metal' magazine artists like Mobius, Richard Corbin and others. The quirky flavor matches some stories in that magazine from the'70's thru the '90's.
It was an INSTANT Cult classic for that and many other touchstones in the film.
every movie doesn't need to be a 5 to be entertaining. 3.5 is a good score for this type of movie. I really wish entertaining movies like this were made today.
this is one of my top 5 favourites , Hudson hawk is another funny bruce willis movie
cult movie of the 90's
You shot the squid! 😂😂😂😂😂
Good movie, sometimes chaotic but i still love this one. Good actors in it. It's a humoristic action SF movie. Hope you love it Biscute (I do)
Bada big boom. Big bada boom.
It is nothing short of the best movie ever made. Love it.
Most people love the film for sure, it's just entertainment all around. It's a fun watch
Keep doing what you're doing Biss. You are so much fun to watch.
I enjoyed this movie a lot, it is a fun sci-fi adventure, and leaned into the campiness, not taking itself too seriously. Overall a good fun watch! thanks for the watch! take care
If you see other French scifi, you might see some similarities.
love this movie -it was spectacular in the theater
Keep up the great reviews!!!

One of my favorite movies. Also Biss hair is amazing ❤
25:50 "is he having a stroke?"
LOL
There's an American phrase "buzz off!" which means "go away!".
So when Ruby goes "🐝BZZZZZ" and waves people away, it's like a funny/weird take on that phrase.
"She's Spanish" 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Nice reaction! You're so much fun to watch. This IS a good movie to chill out to chill out on, even on a Sunday afternoon.
The guy, Finger, Bruce Willis was talking to on the phone is actually Vin Diesel.
Such a fun movie that is never serious just entertaining. Lady Biss makes it even more enjoyable to watch with her expressions and comments.
Some people don’t like it, but the Valerian and the city of 1000 planets is a really fun movie
YUP! ☝
“You’ve got yourself a cougar” ROFLMAO!
She’s well over 5000 years old so… yeah
Yes I think your rating is accurate. With the addition of Chris Tucker(Rudy) the humor matches the frenetic energy of the story line. Good , honest reaction.
37:35 Curious that Leeloo is doing this research in _English._ Spanish, Italian and French relate "War" in the G's. German relates it in the the K's. In any of _these_ languages, she would've encountered all this a _while_ ago.
In the book the Liquid stuff running down their heads was meaning the Darkness was getting closer. Also in the book the Liquid Darkness covered the inside of the temple at the end.. Love this movie
A lot of Jinjer videos seem to have homages classic scifi movies. In the case of The Fifth Element, feel like one of Tati's hairstyles in I Speak Astronomy was inspired by Zorg's hair, while her hair in Ape was inspired by one of Ruby Rhod's.
Can't wait. This is a good movie.
I am a meat popcicle. One of my favorite movies. Perfect being you both are.
Gary Oldman was great as the bad guy...Zorg. I know you didn't care for it, but when I first saw it I remember thinking that it was a movie worth watching...over and over! But, then, I'm old. You know how we are. Thanks for letting us watch with you, it was fun! God bless you!
Korbin ma man, I got no fiyah, I got no light...if I'd known I wouldn't have given up smoking.
Biss you have the fifth element, your buitiful, funny, smart, compassionate, and adorable ❤😊
Oh boy , this could be my favorite movie of all time.
Luke Perry? Who else could have had this cameo if that is what it is. One favorite quote I use a lot when it's dark; "Adzes, light!." When giving my name for restaurant reservations I like using Corbin Dallas.
Haha
I came here for firefly, I'm staying for that belly laugh.
10:59 I give you Milla Jovovich. Believe it or not, she was actually born in Ukraine. She's fluent in Ukrainian, Russian, English, French and Serbian. She's more well known for her performance in the _Resident Evil_ series, though.
Super reaction as always. Thanks.
You have to think when it came out. You really can’t compare it to modern sifi movies. You need to compare it to movies of it’s time. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Now you know the origin of our moon, it was Mr. Shadow's last attempt.
This has always been a beers and friends movie to me, a fun watch that has stayed a fun watch.
13:05 yes, yes it does.
One of my favorite movies. Quirky, fun and unique.
I enjoyed it, it was definitely unique
Speaking of Orcs, not recognizing Ian Holm/LOTR Bilbo Baggins?
i did not :(
@@BissFlix it happens, media overload.. ;)
And Ash from alien
I would call this light hearted sci-fi comedy. Easy re-watch.
