Shows how much Hollywood execs know. That part won her Best Supporting Actress at the Oscars. Although I thought she deserved the Oscar for her role in The Color Purple.

Similar thing happened with the movie Open Range. Kevin Costner, director and colead, said he wouldnt make the movie unless Robert Duvall agreed to costar with him. Still one of favorite movies as a result. Ghost works because of Swayze and Goldberg.

    • @michaelfisher1395

Not quite, but on the right track. Patrick Swayze and Whoopi Goldberg did not know each other. Patrick thought she turned it down and when he expressed incredulousness about that misconception the producers told him THEY rejected her. He refused to sign unless they at least gave her a screen test. They hit it off from the very get go and remained close friends till his death. Whoopi has told the story many times.

@88happiness sixth sense was great but come on... no film was a better depiction nor grips you in every way like ghost. I also think ghost was the best film of ALL TIME in terms of depicting soul mates. Sam wheat and Molly Jensen was the greatest love story. You can see on both actors performance... everutime Sam looks at Molly it's so adorabl3 and tragic

I initially saw this movie at the movies shortly after it was released and I thought that it was a good movie. A few years later I watched this movie with my dad who was dying of cancer. My dad told me that he definitely believed in ghosts. In the weeks before my dad’s death he saw several ghosts of several family members and friends who had already died. When my dad finally died I knew before I received the phone telling me that he had died that my dad was dead. For several years after my dad’s death, when I was feeling low, I could often feel my dad’s spirit. I definitely believe that ghosts are real.

It’s a common phenomenon to hallucinate at these points. There are no ‘ghosts’ spirits orbs and all that rubbish mainly gullible women waste their time with. I’m not being harsh or rude. I just don’t want anyone to waste a single second of the one life they have believing in that bullshit. Make the most of your life and have no regrets. Love your loved ones and tell them while you are here cos it’s all gone way too soon. Don’t waste your life ‘looking up what coloured orbs mean’ on the internet for Christ’s sake!

Tony Goldwyn is one of the most gorgeous men on the face of the planet! I’ve followed his career as much as could and he looks better today then in 1990. He’s in the Divergent movies if you haven’t seen it. The Belko Experiment is great and the remake of “The Last House on the Left”… that one’s brutal! The effects in this film were great. I saw it four times in theaters and can’t not cry.
I watch it mostly, not only for Tony 🤤, but Demi. I’ve followed her career ever since she played Jackie Templeton on General Hospital. I knew then she would have a great career. I was so happy when she named her first girl “Scout” from “To Kill A Mockingbird”. PERFECT!

Whoopi was so awesome back in the day. Btw.. Vincent Schiavelli was the actor who played the 'subway ghost'. He was also the biology teacher Mr Vargas in Fast Times At Ridgemont High (as well as many many other roles). His character face and comedic delivery was his claim to fame. He passed away the day after Christmas in 2005. He's buried in Polizzi Generosa, Sicilly, his home town. He was beloved by all, as was Patrick. RIP Patrick and Vincent.

Fun fact: I read somewhere where the guy who played Carl was actually hated in real life for the role he played in this movie. He went to a restaurant and the waitress was like you look very familiar, where have I seen you before. Are you an actor. The guy who played Carl answered yes, I’m an actor and I do Broadway. The waitress finally remembered what movie he did. The waitress treated him really awful.

Molly did happen to say "Sam, don't you leave me!" at exactly the right moment. She didn't mean to talk to his ghost, but he apparently felt that he couldn't leave her (for Heaven), partly as a result. Besides, his death was so sudden that he just wasn't ready, period. That's another theory about why some souls linger on the Earth.

  • @st0n3p0ny

"Smelled his cologne two hours before he got the call that he died", it's a pretty common phenomenon. I dreamed I was at a swim meet (no idea why) and some coach at the side of the pool told me my aunt died, and that was right before she died in real life... What's actually happening is similar to dejavu. It's the same thing behind "premonitions". It's your brain misdirecting and filing short term memories in the long term memory section of your brain. You see a black cat go by and say "Woah, dejavu". It's because what you just witnessed, went down the wrong neural pipeline, and got filed in the longer term memory section of your brain along with the short term memory section of your brain. So, you just saw the black cat walk by, but, you've got an identical memory from when it happened earlier (even though that's just an echo). That's how you get people who claim they knew JFK was going to be shot. They're not necessarily lying. It's a major event with hundreds of millions of people thinking about it constantly for a year, a few people get their wires crossed and the memory of it gets filed in a section of the brain containing memories from before the incident happened, and they say "woah, I knew this was going to happen".

In this movie, a ghost can only move stuff when he is properly focused and using his mind. No matter how angry he was, Sam was just swinging away at Willy thinking his "fists" would connect, but he doesn't have fists anymore. Apparently there are subtle nuances involved in how one uses one's feelings to move things, and purely by accident Sam happened to get it right with the photo frame. When he practiced later with the subway ghost, he figured out precisely how to do it, so it wasn't a problem anymore. The point is that it's not just about having strong feelings.

When this movie came out, pottery classes were suddenly popular. Also, my home has a ghost, but it's harmless. At times I swear it's a cat. Forever curious. Knocks the occasional thing over, knowing I don't want it to, but I think it's a fair exchange as it resides in the cupboard under the stairs and I put my cans of soda in there as it's cheaper than putting them in the fridge. Even better is that it HATES my Sister-in-Law with a passion and WILL throw things at her when she's alone.

This film constantly gets mistaken for a chick flick. I believe that's due to the poster and the iconic pottery scene. It's apparently the highest grossing movie of 1990. Just behind it are Home Alone & Pretty Woman. One would think that Total Recall, Back to the Future 3, & Die Hard 2 would be the top candidates; but that right there shows the difference in moviegoing habits back then. Audiences were generally drawn to new concepts rather than established franchises.

Sam was seeing the wood fibers in the door just like he saw that doctor's innards earlier, as his "eyes" were momentarily right inside whatever he was passing through. Only a ghost could see like that, so it is kind of bizarre to us, but it also makes perfect sense.

It was very difficult to find a movie studio willing to make Ghost. Jerry Zucker was the director which made all the studios in Hollywood have second thoughts, as I recall. He worked on Airplane! and the Naked Gun movies. All comedies. The studios didn't think he could do a serious movie/thriller/love story. Finally, Paramount took a chance. The rest is history. There's probably more to this story, but that's all I can recall.

People can joke about this stuff, and denigrate people for believing...but again, I know what I saw and and felt, and in my book, that all that matters.

I read a little of your comments, but nobody gave Whoopi her greatest credit for this movie. Yes, Patrick’s support but more than just Patrick, but the movie industry gave her a nomination for an academy award and she won the oscar. To me that was the most important thing for the film because of the different category genres the film was. The fact that it was a thriller for Whoopi that was the most important as few films received academy awards for thrillers.

"I'm a Pisces! I'm a Pisces!"...As a fellow Pisces I relate to that hard! 😆 This movie is such a classic. It has everything. I definitely recommend you react to both Sister Act 1&2. Both are great!

“Unchained Melody” By The Righteous Brothers During The Pottery Scene is a Iconic Song 🎵 and since I know you reacted to Dirty Dancing(FUN FACT-The Righteous Brothers aren’t brothers at all! They’re names are Bobby Hatfield and Bill Medley and a another FUN FACT is Bill Medley also did a duet with Jennifer Warnes called “I’ve Had The Time Of My Life” The Song Is Featured On The Kellerman’s stage at the end of the movie 🎥!!! Also the time of my life song was not made in the 60’s when the movie was set it was made in around 1987 when the movie was released in theaters!

Let's see, you guys like suspense, thrillers, horror, dark comedies, psychological dramas.... You've just described every movie directed by Alfred Hitchcock. I suggest you delve into him and any of the plethora of great films he directed. There are far too many to name here (probably 20 or more) that I think you'd enjoy. A few of the best known are: North By Northwest; Psycho; Rear Window; Vertigo; Rebecca; and Rope, but many others not named here are also worthwhile.

Great reaction. On a side note. I have had numerous experiences where I felt the presences of fellow loved ones who had passed. One time I was going to sleep and I had closed my eyes getting ready for bed. I was still awake and I could sense a presence coming closer to me. Part of me was weirded out but the other part of me was comfortable, if that makes sense! Anyhow I hear my grandmothers voice say " In the name of the father and the son and the holy spirit!" I also felt her touch me on the forehead / chest/ left shoulder, right shoulder = sign of the cross) as she was doing this. She then kissed me on the cheek and I jumped up out of my bed. I felt my cheek and it was moist like someone had kissed me. I was a little rattled as this is something that doesn't happen all the time. Anyhow, a few hours later my father got the call that his mom had passed. When I told him of my experience, he had no words.

I love this movie, but it’s actually hard to watch now that Patrick Swayze is no longer with us. 🥺 y’all should check out Patrick’s movie “The Outsiders”. It also has young Tom Cruise, Matt Dillon, and the Karate Kid himself, Ralph Machio ! Stay Gold
