Patrick Swayze met his wife, Lisa (before making movies) when she was in his mother's dance class when they were young. He was faithful to her during their marriage the whole time. He was not your typical movie star. He was humble and faithful.
Patrick Swayze was a professional dancer before becoming an actor. The man can act, dance, sing and does his own stunts. He sang the song She’s Like The Wind for this movie and pretty sure he wrote it too.
Yep, a pro ballet dancer who could have gone in to the NFL. You forgot to mention comedy. She's Like The Wind is one of the most successful songs of all time, he wrote it and performed it, but watch To Wong Foo and you'll see what I mean. Swayze might have been the most disrespected and underutilized talent in Hollywood history.
@@GameOn71213 He wrote it and performed it and it made him one of the most successful singer/songwriters of all time. The Beatles have one album that outsold Patrick Swayze... Sgt.Pepper's, and that album beat Swayze by a tiny sliver. 18m vs 18.2 IIRC... Swayze is on the short list of most successful recording artists.
I love your reaction to this one, because I have seen a few others and most of the people reviewing it only looked at it superficially, but you are really listening and watching and getting into the story and the character development and the rich girl vs blue collar working class guy theme that this movie is about. Thank you! As for Swayze, if you read his autobiography, you’ll learn that there was very little he could not do, be it dancing, acting, songwriting, singing, gymnastics, roller- and ice skating, martial arts, horseback riding, surfing, skydiving, you name it - and all of it at a professional level. The man even had a pilot’s license. The reason why he wasn’t mainly an action star is simple and understandable: he always wanted to stretch himself as an actor and try out new challenges. Why would he agree to be labelled an action star when he was capable of so much more? He was highly underrated and would’ve deserved much more recognition and appreciation than he received in his lifetime. A fun fact regarding Dirty Dancing is that he felt a bit disappointed he couldn’t really do more complicated dance moves in this film, but that he had to tone things down, since the character Johnny had a street dance background, whereas Swayze was a highly trained professional ballet dancer. So if the dance moves in this film impress you, you haven’t seen him dance ballet yet. Check out ”One Last Dance” which he did together with his wife, then you’ll know what I mean. Thank you for reviewing his movies and keeping his legacy alive!
This is one of those movies that a lot of people assume is "guilty pleasure " kind of movie. Actually, it's just a really good movie. No guilt required. I really like the father daughter relationship. A lesser movie would've really dumbed down that relationship. But it's really touching here. As a father myself, I genuinely understand his disappointment and why he's hurt. It's way deeper than "he's old and just doesn't get the kids". The scene with her confronting her dad by the lake is my favorite. It breaks me every time.
Loved your reaction to one of my favorite movies. (it isn't summer till I watch Dirty Dancing and Jaws!) You are very engaging, and I just hit subscribe!
What people aren't ever talking about is how incredibly hard it is for women to dance in high heels and dance exceptional. It takes l lot it talent and skill to do that
I was in love with Patrick Swayze growing up, I cried so much when he died and still do if I watch his interviews or his movie Ghost 😂 love The Outsiders too and Roadhouse. Also agree love the soundtrack to this movie
Time of my life was written in 1987 and used for the first time in the movie Dirty Dancing. It won the 1988 Academy Award for the best song written for a movie in 1987.
Despite some of the more controversial parts of this movie, I actually love Dirty Dancing a lot. Who doesn't love good music and dancing? Fun Fact: The very famous scene where Johnny and Baby are practicing their dancing and they are crawling towards each other on the floor wasn't intended to be part of the film; they were just messing around and were warming up to do the real scene, but director Emile Ardolino liked it so much, he kept it in the film.
Patrick Swayze was a professional dance instructor before this and taught Jennifer to dance for this movie. Some shots were the real thing. No doubt Cynthia Rhodes helped teach also 😚
There were a few other 80s songs in the movie as well. But Time of My Life is the only 80s one they dance to. I'm so glad you enjoyed this! It's such a classic. I know people have said Patrick Swayze was a dancer before this, but Cynthia Rhodes was as well. Sadly, due to a rhinoplasty she had in the 90s, you probably wouldn't recognize Jennifer Grey today. If you haven't seen Ghost with Patrick Swayze, I highly recommend it!
I just watched this movie for the first time recently...wanted to finally give it a chance because I've been a Jerry Orbach fan since childhood...and loved it. I *HATE* the sequel, though, got dragged to the movies to see it with my family when it came out in theaters, and I thought it was total and complete garbage.
Love that this was recommended to me. It's always great to find a new reactor. It did crack me up that you thought this would be more 80s at the beginning. :D Also fun fact, the lake they practiced the lift in is all dried up and gone now.

He gave roundhouse kicks in Roadhouse. Watch it! Great 80's movie. Fun fact: Benny 'The Jet' Urguidez did the martial arts choreography for that movie. Probably the best kickboxer ever.
Jennifer Gray also had a dancing background. She actually won dancing with the stars a few years ago. I think she was in her 50’s when she won that show.
Outsiders is the book that got me into reading. One of the few books my husband and I agree on. Patrick was a trained dancer by this point. His mom taught him how to dance.
Definitely an ‘80s aesthetic! It didn’t feel like a historical movie back in the day. Same with Patrick Swayze’s hair… definitely ‘80s. I enjoyed watching you watching this movie.
Disagree. Johnny's hair is pretty close to a 1950's DA, ala Fonzie from Happy Days and all the Greasers in Grease. It took place in 1963 and some 50's styles lingered.
@@zedwpd I agree that at the beginning of the movie his hair had that ‘60s look. The iconic scene doing the lift at the end of the movie had him in a mullet, definitely an ‘80s vibe.

Gotta recommend To Wong Foo for some great Patrick Swayze/Wesley Snipes comedy. Also, Red Dawn (1984) for another Swayze/Jennifer Grey movie (also with Ponyboy from Outsiders).
A personal favorite, and have a fact for fun. Swayze actually had an injured knee, so after jumping off the stage multiple times he said he only had one more in him. That last jump of the stage is the one in the film.
You should research Patrick Swayze man. His mom had a dance studio. He's been dancing all his life. Met his wife Lisa when he was 18 and she was 14 in his mom's studio. This was in early 70's they married in '75 when she turned 18. Married 34 years. Do some research on Dirty Dancing too. Watch the whole movie. It's a classic
Patrick Swayze rode up behind me on a horse in Central Park. It was a trip. P.S. In real life, he wore a mullet for a while (very 80's) but it was also kind of a throw back to the longer hairstyles of the late 50s; duck tails and so on; then growing it out in the early 60s would've produced a mullet type look - - I guess this movie is probably set in the late 50s or early 60s, so it works. But yes, mullets were big in the 80s.
@@sexysadie2901I thought the same, isn’t it funny how most people do not seem to listen to what is being said in the beginning before the action starts 😁
I recommend Red Dawn with Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey is in it too. You can add it to your 80's action movies to watch list. Jennifer Grey is the daughter of Joel Grey, a famous actor, he was in movies but is best known for the Broadway musicals he was in, especially Caberet. If you have Disney+ there's an episode of The Muppet Show where Joel Grey guests. He even mentions his daughter Jennifer. Back in the mid 90's there was a sitcom called "It's Like, You Know..." it didn't last too long but Jennifer Grey starred in it as a version of herself. Throughout the series she deals either with comments on her plastic surgery or people referencing Dirty Dancing, Red Dawn, and Ferris Bueller. If you like 60's music I highly highly recommend the movie The Commitments about a band in Dublin Ireland in the 90's that decides to play American Soul music. The movie is pretty good, the soundtrack is freaking amazing!!! Best Regards!
Really enjoying your vids you pick same types of movies I would except I'd probably pick a few more horrors you should make them a little longer your doing an awesome job keep it up👍
Yes it’s set in the 60s but had to throw some 80s aspects in there like the hair, and a couple of songs. I’m sure to keep it appealing to the audience of the day. Now it’s like watching a 2022 movie set in the 80s, the hair wouldn’t be as frizzy and the makeup wouldn’t be as…80s.

She said, "I went in the operating room a celebrity-and came out anonymous. It was like being in a witness protection program or being invisible." She was devastated by the results, but has found acceptance and appreciation for the way her life's trajectory has gone.
@@saltymexican219 also even now in some states age of consent is 16...that Honey Boo Boo is dating a 20 year old but it's legal in Georgia so there ya go lol
Jennifer Grey and Matthew Broderick dated for time. They were involved in car accident in England where Matthew was driving on the wrong side of the road and killed other driver and passenger. So Jennifers career was sidelined for a while. And she also had plastic surgery on her nose for whatever reason and came out completely unrecognizable.. And also, music rights are extraordinarily expensive, which is why they had an original written. They ran out of money.
Jennifer Grey sadly got a nose job and became unrecognizable which really hurt her career. :( If you were born in the early 80s I'm surprised you didn't recognize Baby's Dad from his best known role Detective Lennie Brisco, the face of the original Law and Order series. I love all of the performances in this movie. It stands the test of time for a reason. BTW, there are a lot of 80s anachronisms in this movie, from a couple of the songs, to Swayze and Grey's hairstyles, to some of the costume choices, particularly for Baby. But we all just went with it.
Loved the reaction (even if you made me feel damn old, lol), that you both saw the humour of the '80s teen' vibe while still keeping a totaly open mind to the good parts and felt the good vibrations ;) I'm sure when it came out I liked the movie (I was 10), used to spend hours in front of the tube, but these days I kinda cringe at most of it. But the last scene... classic. And the scenes you highlighted made me remember there were other good parts of it, thank you. btw, if you like music, you might try Sabaton. Ghost Division is a good one to start. *very* different from oldies (which I still like as well) but.. it's hard to explain why they strike me to have similar echoes. subject totally different, but.. something about how they treat it maybe.. anyway. peace on
The woman who played Penny was an actress and dancer named Cynthia Rhodes. She was definitely not Swayze’s wife. He was married to the same woman from 1975 until his death.
You missed the best parts. When her dad found out robbie got Penny pregnant, not Johnny. Also you should have watched the whole final dance. They got the whole audience involved. Also you shouldn't pause or talk so much. I listen to a lit of reactors. The ones that pause too much I stop watching. Another great movie is AUGUST RUSH. It's about a child music prodigy. Watch the whole movie before you react though or you'll miss the whole point. The song at the end AUGUST'S RHAPSODY chokes me up every time. Plus Jeri Russell is the mother. Beautiful lady!!!

I was born in 85' . Never watched law and order but yes now that you mention it , the dad looks very familiar . Thanks for watching!
What's wrong with the name Frances?! It's a beautiful name.
see while people get racism 2 them to by other while people
You cannot criminalise abortion, you can only criminalise SAFE abortions.
No the song is NOT from the sixties.
Loved the reaction (even if you made me feel damn old, lol), that you both saw the humour of the '80s teen' vibe while still keeping a totaly open mind to the good parts and felt the good vibrations ;)
I'm sure when it came out I liked the movie (I was 10), used to spend hours in front of the tube, but these days I kinda cringe at most of it. But the last scene... classic. And the scenes you highlighted made me remember there were other good parts of it, thank you.
btw, if you like music, you might try Sabaton. Ghost Division is a good one to start. *very* different from oldies (which I still like as well) but.. it's hard to explain why they strike me to have similar echoes. subject totally different, but.. something about how they treat it maybe.. anyway. peace on
The Woman who played Penny in the Movie was Patrick Swayze's actual Wife
The woman who played Penny was an actress and dancer named Cynthia Rhodes. She was definitely not Swayze’s wife. He was married to the same woman from 1975 until his death.
Nope
Sorry. I meant Keri Russell
