Yes, emotional, charming, and the guy gets the girl at the end. Another similar movie is An Officer and a Gentleman staring Gere and Winger. Arthur is another, staring Liza Minelli and Dudley Moore
My favorite scene in the movie is where Vivian goes back into the snobby ladies' store and shoves their attitude in their faces. "I have to go shopping now" Loved it!
That was hilarious! They wouldn't help her when she was dressed, well, like a hooker, but when she came back after a shopping trip dressed to the nines they didn't recognize her and she got to dismiss them right back! "You don't remember me? You work on commission, right? Mistake. BIG Mistake! I have to go shopping now!" BTW, that brown polka dot dress she wore? I had it in navy blue. And the pink sheath dress with black buttons down the front? I had that in red. I had no idea I was a fashion icon and I didn't live anywhere near Beverly Hills. LOL
This movie is what made Julia Roberts a star. She was irresistible & always remained grateful to director Gary Marshall (his movies are always good) and appeared in every film of us he asked her to until his death. She was in his final film. She & Richard Gere had such good chemistry & loved working with Gary so much they looked for another project for years. The result was the delightful The Runaway Bride - funny, romantic & Roberts & Gere still had the chemistry. Gary Marshall had a loyal group of actors who were in every film he made. The most important was his lucky charm, Hector Elizondo (hotel manager in Pretty Women) who is at his best in The Princess Diaries 1 & 2. Also the sucking up store manager was in every film after Pretty Woman and also had his best part in both Princess Diaries films. You can never go wrong with Gary Marshall.
The scene with the necklace when Edward shuts the box on Vivian's hand and startled her was not in the script. Richard Gear did it spontaneously and the director liked Julia Roberts' genuine laugh so much that he left it in the film.
That mocha colored polka dot dress she wore to the polo match was pretty iconic. I worked for a clothing manufacturer at the time and we had a $49.99 version of that dress we sold thousands of!
I was so obsessed with this movie as a kid/teenager that I inadvertently memorized the entire thing by virtue of watching it so many times. Granted we didn’t have the internet then and had about 10 channels on TV. But I still Pretty Woman. It’s an iconic film
That's so cool. My sister and I watched Labyrinth with David Bowie so much that she has the entire thing memorized. I don't have audio memory so I know a few parts, but not anywhere near what she does. She mouths the words the entire time we're watching, and I am jealous. lol
The song wasn't written for the movie. It's called "Oh, Pretty Woman," written by Roy Orbison (1936-1988) and recorded by him. It was released as a single in 1964 and was a big hit. The opera they went to was La Traviata (The Fallen Woman), written by Giuseppe Verdi (1813-1901) in 1852 and first performed in 1853. It's about a prostitute who falls in love with a rich guy.
@@originalwoolydragon8387Yes, there's a behind the scenes documentary about the movie Pretty Woman that talked all about that original script for the movie $3000 was NOT a romcom. It was a tragic story about Vivian. But Disney gave it to Gary Marshall to direct and it turned into this awesome movie.
This film was the one that made Julia Roberts a superstar and resurrected Richard Gere's career. Two more Richard Gere romantic films to react to are "An Officer And A Gentleman" with Debra Winger and "Nights In Rodanthe" with Diane Lane. Thank you so much for this great reaction!
A little later in his career I liked him in Shall We Dance where his mid-life crisis manifests in him learning to ballroom dance. With Stanley Tucci, JLo, Lisa Ann Walter, Bobby Cannavale.
My wife adores this movie. I was deployed to Afghanistan for our 15th anniversary, so I got her a faux emerald version of The Necklace. I made her record herself opening it, and I still watch it from time to time. Her reaction is one of the highlights of my life.
I think you recognized the older business owner James, that is Ralph Bellamy who was in “Trading Places” as one half of the Duke brothers with Don Ameche (and also in their cameo in “Coming to America”). They were both classic movie actors as far back as the 30s. Ralph Bellamy is in a great screwball comedy (a term used back then for a rom-com) from 1937 called “The Awful Truth” starring Cary Grant and Irene Dunne, that would be a fantastic watch for the channel! Great witty banter, fast-paced, and so fun! The old movie that is shown on tv is “Charade” (1963) starring Cary Grant (speaking of) and Audrey Hepburn, combo suspense romance, that would also be a fun movie for the channel! And of course the black & white tv show she’s watching early on is I Love Lucy! The famous grape-stomping scene ❤
I absolutely love this movie. I watched it as a kid and now at 37 it still holds up. Julia Roberts and Richard Gere are an awesome pair. They did another movie together called Runaway Bride. It didn’t get the same amount of hype but I recommend that one as well. Great reaction!!
This film has been iconic since it came out. I literally grew up on it. Funny enough, I had not seen it in almost a decade, when back in 2015, this was on a marathon in the mental hospital I was in. (I am doing great now, and swinging in life ! ). I swear this film kept us happy and entertained, because we all kept watching it in turns between apts, and by the end we had all watched it at least twice. It was a great conversation to keep us occupied between HGTV and the random showings of Happy Madison productions.
I've watched this a million times. Such a great movie. Another movie that I really like with Julia Roberts and Richard Gere is "Runaway Bride." They are so good together ❤️
The original concept for all these movies is a fantasy "Pygmalion" with the absolute best version (which is over 50 yrs old but still a must see) being "My Fair Lady" with Audrey Hepburn and Rex Harrison.
My favorite Julia Roberts rom com is “Notting Hill” with Hugh Grant. She’s in the power position in that one and Hugh is the one looking for a come up. One of the best lines in movie history in that one, but I won’t spoil it.
PLEASE react to the movie "PRETTY IN PINK" with Molly Ringwald, John Cryer, Andrew McCarthy and James Spader. It's an 80s classic!! You will both really love it. 🙏
I was nineteen the year this movie came out. It has always been a favorite of mine. Julia Roberts was the "it girl" in Hollywood in this time period. She had some pretty good movies. Julia Roberts and Richard Gere are in another movie years later called Runaway Bride. You will love it! It shows their personalities in a different way than Pretty Woman. Perfection!
A timeless classic. Glad you guys enjoyed it. Great soundtrack too. I've lost count of the number of times I've watched this movie. They don't make 'em like that anymore, sadly. Thanks for the reaction guys.
Great reaction you two. I love this movie. 1) He didn't judge her profession. He liked her for her. This applies to both men and women. 2) It showed poor people are judged regardless of race. The way she was treated and judged was horrible. 3) Julia changed people because she was genuine. That is why she was lovable. She was friendly and charismatic. 4) What this movie showed is the while she made him better but making him see and enjoy life and realizing tearing down stuff is bad and hurts people. He helped her to. She was more than just street worker. She was a woman, feminine and beautiful, smart, and caring. She was a human being just like everyone else. So, in essence they made each other better people :)
My middle child, son, when he was about 8 years old saw this movie one night in his room...he was SUPPOSED to be playing video games....LOL!! Gotta watch having cable in your kid's room!! Anyway...he LOVED this movie...I think it was Julia he LOVED...but he used to call this movie "Pretty Girl"....LOL!! He would say.."Mom, can we watch "Pretty Girl?" It was so cute!!
This is an all-time favorite of mine and probably of millions of other people. It’s not my No. 1, but it’s definitely in my Top 10 I’d say. I absolutely love this movie. Almost anytime it’s on I will start watching. I’ve probably seen it from start to end maybe 30 times over the years! Both Gere and Roberts light up the screen. I’m straight, but Gere looks pretty sharp. He epitomizes what a lot of men probably aspire to be like….rich, handsome, and powerful who could likely get any woman he wants. And Julia looks beautiful. Great, endearing movie!
So true. I couldn't think of anyone else who could have played Richard Gere's part. He had that classy, salt and pepper, man in his 40's, rich and powerful and still in great shape, and even though she is obviously 20 years his junior, they fit in a way you don't think about age in the least.
The story line of a rich man transforming a poor woman into someone fantastic goes back over 100 years to the play Pygmalion by George Bernard Shaw. The basic premise has been rewritten into several other films and musicals such as My Fair Lady, Educating Rita and, of course, Pretty Woman. Each story is charming and worth watching. My Fair Lady is a classic you would both enjoy and greatly appreciate.
I was going to write the same thing. Glad you got there before me. Wish I could like this comment multiple times. I love comparing the polo scene in Pretty Woman to the Ascot racing scene in My Fair Lady. Right down to the hats!!
@@maryrichardson1318 Yes!!! There are so many parallels and there are also so many elements that make each story unique to their own time and place. My favorite of the two, however, is My Fair Lady; it is the epitome of a classic!
Not only did Richard Gere play the piano, he also composed the music he was playing. Watch the movie Chicago, you'll find he's also a gifted singer and dancer. My mum taught me about fine dining when I was twelve. Basically when it comes to cutlery (silverware) you start on the outside and work your way in. Also if you're unsure watch what other people are using. As a reward for long service, working for Queensland Rail dad was given free first-class passes to travel anywhere in Australia for himself, mum and I. We travelled from Brissie (Brisbane), Queensland to Perth, Western Australia and back. From one side of the country to the other. That's when mum taught me about fine dining, because first-class meals were included. Also never do what she did with that Ketchup, that's considered an insult to the chef and staff.
The Manager of the hotel explained the whole cutlery thing so difficulty to her. I always remember what Molly Brown told Jack in Titanic. "Start from the outside and work your way in" 😂😂😂😂
I.m not in to prison drama's, yet i loved shawshank redemption, i'm not in to court room drama's, yet i loved a few good men and i'm not in to rom coms and yet i absolutely loved Pretty Woman. There are certain movies that transcend genre's and this is one of them... an absolute classic!
You are going to LOVE this movie!!! Julia Roberts and Richard Gere looked great and had the best chemistry. It is full of cute laughable moments and the Prince- Charming- sweeping- the-girl-away storyline was amazing!
Your mom knew great movies when she saw them. The scene where Demi Moore meets her husband's ghost for the first time was so sad that I lost it. I just started crying too and it was only after watching the movie the third or fourth time did I realize Demi's character was also crying during that scene. I think it was the part where Whoopi Goldberg's character tells Patrick to try picking up an object on the floor to prove he was there.
I would have to say that this is one of the best rom-coms of all time. The chemistry between Gere and Roberts is magical and Julia just absolutely, lights up the screen.
The soundtrack of this movie is very good! I remember that it competed with the soundtrack of Days Of Thunder, the movie with Tom Cruise, by the same director of Top Gun, Tony Scott, also released in 1990, a soundtrack also very good and containing songs by Guns and Roses, Tina Turner, Elton John, Chicago, Joan Jett, Cher, John Waite, David Coverdale, etc.
I would say, and I know it’s a stretch, that this is a very modern reimagining of Pygmalion/My Fair Lady. It’s a comedy of growth, manners, and romance. Love it! And Laura SG as Kit, steals everything she’s in (and yet was the “straight man” in her series, Just Shoot Me. Super talented!
I love this movie; so glad y'all enjoyed it too! 😁 Julia Roberts and Richard Gere reunited many years later to do another rom com together called Runaway Bride, which I love even more than this movie; you should react to it also! 🥰 Other great rom coms to start you off in this genre are Sleepless in Seattle (Tom Hanks / Meg Ryan), While You Were Sleeping (Sandra Bullock / Bill Pullman), Moonstruck (Cher / Nicholas Cage), My Big Fat Greek Wedding (Nia Vardalos / John Corbett), and Shakespeare in Love (Joseph Fiennes / Gwyneth Paltrow). 😊
For your next Romantic Comedy please consider The Goodbye Girl , starring Richard Dreyfus, who played Matt Hooper in Jaws. Richard won an Oscar for his role in the film. I believe Julia's first film was Mystic PIzza, which is a small budget coming of age film and it got Julia noticed and on the map, then Pretty Woman rocketed her to super stardom. Her smile lights up the screen. One of Richard Geres early films is called American Gigolo , where he plays a male prostitute. Its a good movie but R rated , the song Call Me by Blondie is on the soundtrack and I believe it is the theme song.
I lived in Hollywood Blvd for a whole summer when I went to a guitar school in 1989 and most of the scene in the beginning and at the end is where I lived or always passed by. My all time favorite classic movies from the 90'S.
Check out the soundtrack, so awesome! Julia Roberts played Shelby, the daughter in Steel Magnolias. Originally, the plot was much darker; Kit died and Edward & Vivienne did not get together in the end. But test audiences didn't like it, so they re-wrote the ending.
Didn't the changes take place while still in the script stages? The entire tone of the movie is different from the original screenplay I've heard about.
I guess I was remembering a different movie from the time...33 years later, after all. 😁 Upon doing a little online research, the writer said the Kit dying part was untrue and that she & Vivienne were supposed to go to Disneyland together at the end. I'm just glad we got the fairytale ending. 🤩 @@HuntingViolets
Just wanted to say that I've been binge watching your movie reaction videos. You two are such a sweet couple! This movie is one of my favorites. Fun fact, the opera that Edward took Vivian to see is La Traviata. It is about an aristocrat who falls for a prostitute and offers her a better life.
How have y'all not seen Pretty Woman? Before I even watch this reaction video. I am going to predict that Jay is going to get upset and become very protective to the point of wanting to throw down. And Amber... you are going to be letting out a lot of heartfelt awww's
The original movie had Edward go to NY and that was the end. The test audience freaked out, so they got Julia and Richard back to film the last scene. This movie changed Hollywood immensely.
“I appreciate this whole seduction thing you’ve got going here, but let me give you a tip: I’m a sure thing.” I say this to my husband all the time. 😂😂
One of my very favorite movies! I must have seen it close to fifty times, watch it whenever I run across it on TV. Love the way that they change each other for the better.
You all didn’t show for part with the necklace where he closes the case and she giggles so beautifully!!! That was unscripted and that was her real shocked reaction to him doing that!!! It’s my favorite part of the whole movie!!!
Love this movie. Another Julia Roberts classic is Notting Hill with Hugh Grant. Kinda the opposite to this one, rich girl-poor guy type of thing. Just as wholesome and chock-full of british charm and humor. And the theme song is a cover of 'When You Say Nothing At All' which i think you've reacted to 😁
It blows my mind that people like Jay and Amber are so “in the dark” about entertainment… they don’t know how big some some of these actors are. Amber just said that she saw Julia Roberts in something else. She doesn’t know how big of an actress she actually is
This movie propelled Julia Roberts into superstardom. She was a successful actress, but after this, she was a star. I recommend "An Officer and a Gentlemen" with Richard Gere. It is so good! It is a drama and romance. A classic.
The "Wow!" coming into the lobby the first time, then the feeling of trying to hide for the feeling of shame of not belonging. That was the most heart crushing scene in my opinion. Please, ladies, whoever and wherever you are, you belong and you deserve to be there. Don't act like the IG famous fools fronting on their fake image. Be like the wealthy minded, confident, self-secure tycoon Gere is playing. You ARE worth it and you DO belong, anywhere. Then live up to that attitude with real work and real kindness and respect, and real love for others.
I have loved this movie since I first saw it when it came out. I knows it's best not to examine it too closely but it is great. It's great to see Ralph Bellamy playing a nice role after Trading Places and I love the relationship between Vivvian & Barney.
Jay and Amber, when this movie came out, I could have sworn they made this movie like a modern day "My Fair Lady" (1964 musical/romance) film. although with a slightly altered storyline and a period piece. Perhaps "Maid in Manhattan" was inspired by the same concept of "My Fair Lady" minus the music. I love "My Fair Lady" and "Pretty Woman" too! I'm glad you enjoyed this movie as much as we still do! ☮ and 💕
Great reaction. There are references to the musical My Fair Lady. If you haven’t seen it Amber I highly recommend it. It’s about a poor woman who sells violets on the curb. She meets an upper class professor named Henry Higgins.and takes her on as a live in student.
Such an awesome movie! The bad girl makes good format but the acting is so good that it doesn't matter about the plot being so cliche. You are going to really enjoy this flick! ❤❤🎉🎉
I saw this movie with my now wife, when we were teenagers in theaters….the woman who plays Elizabeth, the lawyers wife, she was the news reporter in the film Mask, with Jim Carrey, she also was married to actor John Ritter, who played Jack on the 80s show Threes Company.
The Song "King of Wishful Thinking" by Go West is on the soundtrack of THIS movie ( as is Pretty Woman by Roy Orbison), also No Explanation by Peter Cetera is also on the soundtrack
Héctor Elizondo played the hotel manager. That snippet of a soprano sax track was Kenny G. I never get why Edward would go to such lengths only to expose her like that.
A favorite of mine. Richard Gere is stunning and Julia Roberts got her first big break with this movie … and Richard Gere fought to give her that first big break. First Gere movie I saw was American Gigolo, in 1980. Not a romcom but still a unique mature rated movie. It set Gere up for a lifetime career as a leading man in any genre of movie. He did another movie with Julia called Runaway Bride. Others are thrillers, suspense, mystery, etc. he’s a good actor, incredibly attractive and has played opposite most Hollywood leading ladies. Gere and Costner are my favorite contemporary actors. Versatile. He can play a murderer and then sing and dance in a musical like Chicago on Broadway. Over 50 movies. I hope you check out his other films. Also, this film showcased a song by the group Roxette. It also put them on the map. The song played in the limo as she was leaving the hotel, it Must Have Been Love. The soundtrack not only featured Roy Orbison, but Red Hot Chili Peppers, Davie Bowie and Peter Cetera, among others. Popular music in movie soundtracks in the 80s was huge.
love this, i have lost count how mant times i have watched this. My mum was a fan of roy orbison - pretty woman was her favourite song, had it played at her funeral
So happy for Amber she gets to see a great Romantic comedy. A classic 90's for sure. Other great Romantic 90's comedies "Sleepless in Seatle" with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. "While you were Sleeping" with Sandra Bullock and Bill Pullman. "Barefoot in the Park" from 1967 Jane Fonda and Robert Redford. Love these movies.
The scene where he gives her the necklace, was an impromptu thing Gere did and the laugh she had was very genuine! So Gary Marshall left it in. Marshall was also the bum at "Sly's" house!
Two great lines in this movie I still use on my wife. You're late. You're stunning. You're forgiven. And "If I forget to tell you, I had a really good time tonight. "
The actor playing Mr. Thompson (the manager of the hotel) is the awesome Hector Elizondo! 😊There are a number of movies you might recognize him from. Actually, Hector Elizondo was a "good luck charm" for this movie's director, the late great Garry Marshall (who, also, directed Overboard)! Garry Marshall would always cast him in, at least, a small role in every single movie he ever directed from his very first in 1982 until his very last in 2016. ❤ By the way, the movie Vivian is watching the end of (with the "whatever your name is" quote) is actually a movie you guys would totally love!! It's called "Charade" and it's amazing! Please put it on your watchlist!
It’s been years since I watched Pretty Woman such a good film. You can’t beat the classics of the 80’s and 90’s. So good. Can’t Buy Me Love with a young Patrick Dempsey and Amanda Peterson is a classic RomCom of the 80’s too. Put that on your list. The Rob Squad Family would enjoy that one 😉 Appreciate the uploads thanks 🙏
A wonderful western movie set in Australia and starring the late, great Alan Rickman aka Professor Snape is Quigley Down Under. It also stars Tom Selleck (Bluebloods, original Magnum PI) and Laura San Giacomo (Kit in Pretty Woman). It's got it all - fantastic acting, great story, epic setting, action and humor plus Alan Rickman is such an awesome villain!! 🤘Rock On!🤘 Kelly
This is my absolute favorite movie review!! I can't count how many times I've seen this movie, but this was like watching it through new eyes. You guys are adorable!! The hotel manager was Hector Elizondo. He is also in The Runaway Bride with Roberts & Gere and was in the TV show Last Man Standing. You need to watch The Runaway Bride now!! Its the same style of RomCom.
Yes, and Rita Wilson (Tom Hanks' wife IRL) plays Elizondo's wife in Runaway Bride. She's also in Sleepless in Seattle, so they'll get more familiar with these famous actors watching these rom coms. :)
Love this movie! I begged my mom to go see this in the theater (I was 6😂)didn't end up seeing it until i was about 15. Another great one with Julia Roberts & Richard Gere is Runaway Bride. I'd love to see your reaction to it.
You thought you recognized the hotel manager, Bernard. He was the Portuguese boat captain that pulled Joanna/Annie out of the ocean when she first went overboard in the movie Overboard.
Love this movie!! When Harry Met Sally, Overboard and Pretty Woman are the tops of Rom Coms for me - I think you would like How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days also! And Erin Brokovich stars Julia Roberts and she is brilliant! It’s more of a drama based on a true story but I would love for you to react to it
Juli Roberts is so great! ‘Mystic Pizza’ is another great early movie of hers. ‘Dying Young’ is probably my favourite. And you can’t go wrong with ‘The Pelican Brief’ with Denzel Washington. Also… we can’t forget ‘Sleeping with the Enemy’ (that was huge!). And ‘Flatliners’. Seriously, her early stuff was SO good!!! And if you want another AMAZING Rom Com… ‘Knotting Hill’ with Hugh Grant. It’s ICONIC.
I just read this one, I think Mystic Pizza was Julia's first breakout movie in 1988, that is the first movie I noticed her while watching it, and if I were to look at that movie now, oh wow, she was so young in that movie I'm guessing 19 or 21 years of age in that one. All of these other suggestions are good too.
Such an iconic movie! I also love Julia Roberts in My Best Friend's Wedding. I'm from the Chicago area, where it's set, and it showcases the city beautifully, it's a hilarious story, and the acting is perfection!
I must have watched this movie 100 times on VHS. Love it. I think you guys reacted to the song "It Must Have Been Love" by Roxette. That video showed clips from this movie. Someone already mentioned "An Officer and a Gentleman". Richard Gere and Louis Gossett Jr. Great great movie.
I am part Hawaiian and I was raised in Hawaii. I grew up with all these movies and music, PLUS Hawaiian culture and music, AND other cultures movies and music, (Hawaii has a huge Asian influence). Hawaii was much more informed on the fads back in the 70s and 80s than I realize. One of my favorite movies and soundtracks as a kid was The Wiz. The original movie with Judy Garland is fine, but The Wiz is so fun and exciting. And I love Michael Jackson. I was raised as a Hawaiian, even though I look more white, so skin color in movies and music was never a thing with me. But you all would be amazed how racist Hawaiians are to their own kind. I used to play polo in college, and the divots thing is real lol. I used to sing opera on stage too, you should go, it is amazing. The singers are NOT mic'd. That is the glory of opera singing, all natural.
So glad you enjoyed this! It's one of my "guilty pleasure films"...one of those that would never be made. Three others I'd like to suggest are "Moonstruck" "Under the Tuscan Sun" and "Julie and Julia" they are all very diffetent films but what they have in common are female central characters each dealing with major crossroads in their lives. Actually I'm going to toss in a fourth called "Shirley Valentine" which has a similar theme and has been a fave for me for many years AND I recently found out was a fave of the late Queen Elizabeth.
Hi guys. Amber you for sure have seen her in Steel Magnolias. If you ever watched Hook she played tinkerbelle. She was also the voice of Charlotte in Charlottes Web. For more of her work y'all should watch Erin Brockovich, Pelican Brief, Mystic Pizza. You can see her and Richard Gere together in Runaway Bride. For more of him An Officer and a Gentleman is a must. I think it will be something you can both enjoy.

Funny enough, I had not seen it in almost a decade, when back in 2015,
this was on a marathon in the mental hospital I was in.
"Notting Hill" Julia Roberts & Hugh Grant
The cast is priceless 😂
Yeh, Notting Hill, but also Love Actually, people who haven't seen that are always surprised at how good it is, with a who's who of British stars.
@BertSmithLondon They need to do Love Actually at Christmas for sure!
YES - two words: ERIN BROCKOVICH, as others have mentioned. Another Julia Roberts movie that is AMAZING!! Glad ya'll enjoyed it!! ❤❤❤❤❤
Pretty in Pink is another poor person with a rich person movie
Wow😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Have to be in top 10. The history of it and watching it when it came out makes it special also. :)
Well, I am definitely NOT straight, but Julia Roberts is adorable and sexy.
Their reunion with Runaway Bride is also very a cute Romcom
Richard Gere's best movie was An Officer And A Gentleman.
Never gets old. Perfect casting and perfect script.
And Audret Hepburn was such a classy, beautiful actress, nobody has ever matched her in my opinion
@@cornievandermerwe4152 Yes, and once they see Audrey Hepburn, they'll want to watch all of her movies! And that will be a joy for all of us.
@@susanball692Rex Harrison is no Richard Gere. Also the age difference In my Fair Lady is disturbing.
I love this movie. It's one of Julia's best IMO. Your next Julia Roberts movie should be Sleeping With the Enemy.
Oh I'd nearly forgotten Sleeping With the Enemy. The suspense......
Love that movie! Much darker than this one. They should also see her star in Erin Brockovich and Something to Talk About. :)
Oh yes great movie!
What about Runaway Bride where Richard Gere and Julia Roberts appear together again, that movie was pretty hilarious.
Yes love that one too!!
The Manager of the hotel explained the whole cutlery thing so difficulty to her. I always remember what Molly Brown told Jack in Titanic. "Start from the outside and work your way in" 😂😂😂😂
Hector Elizondo (the hotel concierge) s Rob Marshal’s go-to guy for every romcom.
Yes they are both gorgeous in this and it’s such a feel good film
23:19 Brown with white polka dots are FOREVER famous and known from this part of the movie. Just google it! So iconic!!!
Great movie! Pretty Woman and Ghost were my mom's favorite movies. She is no longer with us but her dvds now sit on my shelf with my memories of her.
PS: rest in peace Mr. Swayze. Your fans will still miss you. I also loved your performance as the adrenaline junkie in the original movie Point Break.
Erin Brockovich is good movie too. Julia Roberts won an Oscar for best actress. Not a rom-com, but a good story and great acting.
She was wonderful in Quigley Down Under.
yes, I always liked her as an actress
That's not a stretch at all. PW was an updated MFL, and MFL was an updated Pygmalion.
I love this movie; so glad y'all enjoyed it too! 😁 Julia Roberts and Richard Gere reunited many years later to do another rom com together called Runaway Bride, which I love even more than this movie; you should react to it also! 🥰
Other great rom coms to start you off in this genre are Sleepless in Seattle (Tom Hanks / Meg Ryan), While You Were Sleeping (Sandra Bullock / Bill Pullman), Moonstruck (Cher / Nicholas Cage), My Big Fat Greek Wedding (Nia Vardalos / John Corbett), and Shakespeare in Love (Joseph Fiennes / Gwyneth Paltrow).
Yes! Goodbye Girl , with title song by David Gates! One of my faves.
Mystic Pizza also worth a watch as well as Officer and a Gentlemen.
The Goodbye Girl is on my top-10 all time favorite movie list
Mine too!!! thanks for the reply!
Oh please watch the goodbye girl! God Jay will love it and Amber will
Smile the entire time!!!!!!!
Oh yes!!! One of my absolute favourites. Another brilliant Richard Dreyfus movie is Mr Holland’s opus.
@HuntingViolets yes...the original screenplay was much darker
@@1Cheytown I'd like to read that.
A great rom-com is "Sleepless in Seattle" with Tom Hanks/Meg Ryan
When I was a teen, I saw this in the theater 14 times. I was captivated by the chemistry between Gere and Roberts. Banging Soundtrack, too.
Rodeo Drive. I heard of that. No kidding.
No no no no… you’re a male? Oy…..
I still quote this movie! I say "Oh Groovy" all the time, and my fave quote is "50 bucks Grandpa. 75 and the wife can watch". LOL
"What's your dream"!
“I appreciate this whole seduction thing you’ve got going here, but let me give you a tip: I’m a sure thing.”
I say this to my husband all the time. 😂😂
One of my very favorite movies! I must have seen it close to fifty times, watch it whenever I run across it on TV. Love the way that they change each other for the better.
Just in case you didn’t notice the older man they had dinner with played in the movie with Eddie Murphy called trading places
He's also excellent in Rosemary's Baby
You all didn’t show for part with the necklace where he closes the case and she giggles so beautifully!!! That was unscripted and that was her real shocked reaction to him doing that!!! It’s my favorite part of the whole movie!!!
Love this movie. Another Julia Roberts classic is Notting Hill with Hugh Grant. Kinda the opposite to this one, rich girl-poor guy type of thing. Just as wholesome and chock-full of british charm and humor. And the theme song is a cover of 'When You Say Nothing At All' which i think you've reacted to 😁
Love that movie! :)
And Jay's favorite Shania is also on the soundtrack. Spike is just the best, most awkward caracter
It blows my mind that people like Jay and Amber are so “in the dark” about entertainment… they don’t know how big some some of these actors are. Amber just said that she saw Julia Roberts in something else. She doesn’t know how big of an actress she actually is
Love this movie! One of the most rewatchable films there is! No matter when it comes on I always watch it ❤
This movie propelled Julia Roberts into superstardom. She was a successful actress, but after this, she was a star. I recommend "An Officer and a Gentlemen" with Richard Gere. It is so good! It is a drama and romance. A classic.
It kind of resurrected Mr. Gere's career as well.
Classic!! Love that you watched this. Laughing at Amber looking at her arm after she says your foot is as big as your elbow to your wrist… it’s true!!
Hey, I actually checked mine during the movie.
@@rowanmayfair9249 lol I get it! I did the same when I first saw it.
Everyone did that the first time we saw the movie. 😂It made me laugh to see Amber looking at her arm!
☮ and 💕
They should watch _My Fair Lady._
Just read this, I recommended My Fair Lady also lol
Don't forget Wild Child by Iggy Pop!
The best soundtrack!!
Héctor Elizondo played the hotel manager. That snippet of a soprano sax track was Kenny G. I never get why Edward would go to such lengths only to expose her like that.
This movie is phenomenal. I love this film. It is very well done.
'He sleeps'...
my 14 year old heart melted
Nottinghill has to be your next Julia Roberts Movie.❤
Much better movie.
@@blackblake3658 I wouldn't say it's much better, but it is really good.
I went to my first concert at 16 years old. The Eagles. Roy Orbison opened for them and my mom was so bummed that she didn't get to go!!
This is my second favourite movie of ALL time. So cool and sweet and funny. Such good acting and the writing was top notch.
I love While You Were Sleeping. Such sweetness.
all great reccomendations!@@melindametz5025
The scene where he gives her the necklace, was an impromptu thing Gere did and the laugh she had was very genuine! So Gary Marshall left it in. Marshall was also the bum at "Sly's" house!
Two great lines in this movie I still use on my wife. You're late. You're stunning. You're forgiven. And "If I forget to tell you, I had a really good time tonight. "
Great lines!
By the way, the movie Vivian is watching the end of (with the "whatever your name is" quote) is actually a movie you guys would totally love!! It's called "Charade" and it's amazing! Please put it on your watchlist!
Princess Diaries
It’s been years since I watched Pretty Woman such a good film.
You can’t beat the classics of the 80’s and 90’s. So good.
Can’t Buy Me Love with a young Patrick Dempsey and Amanda Peterson is a classic RomCom of the 80’s too. Put that on your list.
The Rob Squad Family would enjoy that one 😉
Appreciate the uploads thanks 🙏
A wonderful western movie set in Australia and starring the late, great Alan Rickman aka Professor Snape is Quigley Down Under. It also stars Tom Selleck (Bluebloods, original Magnum PI) and Laura San Giacomo (Kit in Pretty Woman). It's got it all - fantastic acting, great story, epic setting, action and humor plus Alan Rickman is such an awesome villain!! 🤘Rock On!🤘 Kelly
This is one of my all time favorite movies ❤
Another romcom movie to check out is Crocodile Dundee, where the characters have to adjust to a new environment. Big hit in the mid 80’s
Same director, that directed The Princess Diaries in 2000 with Anne Hathaway
Richard Gere and Julia Roberts did another romcom in later years called Runaway Bride. You should check that one out, too!
Julia was the young bride and new mom in Steel Magnolias. A movie you both loved.
You have to watch her in 'Notting Hill' with Hugh Grant. Beautiful film
I grew up watching this movie with my mom. The nostalgia for this movie.
Such an iconic movie! I also love Julia Roberts in My Best Friend's Wedding. I'm from the Chicago area, where it's set, and it showcases the city beautifully, it's a hilarious story, and the acting is perfection!
“Sleeping With The Enemy”!!
That was a fun watch, glad you guys enjoyed it.
This is such a classic romcom! This is why my generation are big pretty woman fans.
An Officer and a Gentleman is even better than Pretty Woman
The silverware is usually set up, to where you use from the outside in, with each course. Easy
I can't tell you how many times I've watched this movie! Just love it. And they are perfect together
