If no one said already, Sister Mary Robert was dressed in a different type of dress because she was a "NOVICE" Nun
(When a woman enters the novitiate, she is known as a novice and is called "Sister." The canonical novitiate is a year dedicated to prayer, exploring the meaning of the vows and delving more deeply into religious life and the charism (unique spirit or character) of the community)
Amber was the first person I ever heard wonder why she was dressed differently!
And when you both did the head move--side to side- and shoulder shrugs during the song scene, well that was so CUTE! So many people that have watched this movie have done the same thing!!!!
This movie has so many life lessons, teaching them in a good way......Everyone stood up for their friends, from Whoopi's character to Rev. Mother too. They all had each other's backs, and thought of one another before themselves.

Now I only say that most would have been much better if the effort put into the silly singing and dancing had gone into such things as plot and character development. @@revjohnlee The songs are actually often used to fast forward the story, hence kids rarely have time to get bored. They're not just there as a break from the narrative & development, they are the narrative & development. "So they've just been stuck in there?"
Ex-Catholic here, and one of my cousins overseas is an ex-nun. There are a whole lot of different types of convents, but some of them are quite literally just reclusive, and their calling is just to pray, and make up for those (like me) who don't. There are other ones who do go out into the community and do volunteer work, but the ones in this movie were of the former not the latter type. So having Deloris suggest that got them so excited, because they truly felt they had the power to do more, and now had permission (with the pastor's blessing).
PS. my parents are from Poland, and the guy playing the Pope in this movie is clearly meant to look like Karol Wojtyła/John Paul II since he was pope at the time. My mom knew him long before he was a pope. The first time I watched this with her, I asked if it was blasphemous to have him enjoying and clapping along at the end. She said not at all, and he loved music. When she was a teenager, she would go to summer camp back when he was a bishop. He'd be there playing guitar, singing songs and the like. Apparently charismatic as hell.

Sounds like you didn’t know the last song sung…“I Will Follow Him“. It was performed by „Little Peggy March“ and released in January 1963. It reached #1 on the billboard top 100 on 27 April 1963 and spent 3 week there. Which made the 15 year old March the youngest female artist to have a chart-topping single. It was nominated for a Grammy in 1964 for the Best Rock and Roll recording. I was 6 at the time but my youngest sister was 14 and oldest sister 17, so I had all these songs playing around the house all the time! The best thing was all these tunes were NEW and just friggin FANTASTIC! Cheers

I think you would also like the musicals: Hairspray, Joyful Noise ( with Dolly Parton), The Phantom of the Opera and its sequel Love Never Dies, Evita, Dreamgirls, The Sound of Music, Mary Poppins, and Jekyll and Hyde. Those are all wildly different shows/movies but they each have incredible stories with a couple of them being based on real people and true events. Phantom and Loved Never Dies are Andrew Lloyd Webber masterpieces. Phantom has run non-stop in London since it first opened in1986! There is a 25th anniversary film that's recorded live from stage and there's a 2004 motion picture. Both are great in their own right so whichever you choose would be fine. The live show has an incredible surprise at the end that is quite special. Love Never Dies completes the story of Phantom and is only available as a recorded stage show and it is wonderful- if you choose to watch either or both you WILL need tissues. The same holds true for the next show. EVITA stars Madonna and Antonio Banderas and is a great motion picture and is another of Andrew Lloyd Webber's great shows. Jekyll and Hyde is also a show recorded live on stage and is a Gothic thriller. The rest are much more lighthearted shows. The Sound of Music is legendary and based on true events about a real family. It's a must see at least once in life. Mary Poppins is also legendary and such a great musical. There are great musicals out there and worth exploring!

The black & white wimple & habit that the nuns wore in this movie was the traditional dress of U.S. Catholic nuns. After the Second Vatican Counsel of the 1960's some Catholic traditions started to change, one of them being the habit. The change from wearing the habit to "street clothes" slowly evolved from that point. Now there are very few, if any, orders that wear the traditional habit.

My wife was getting an autographed photo by her and was having a hard time deciding between Sister Act and Hocus Pocus. I suggested Sister Act and Kathy Najimy interjected “Is that the one you would pick?” I replied,”No, I would be all about King of the Hill ‘cause it’s my favorite.” She reaches right over and grabs one of her KOTH promo 8x10s and signs it for me for free! No extra charge! I looked at it later and it already had multiple signatures by other FAMOUS cast members including the person that voiced Lucky!!! (If you know, you know.) She was AWESOME!
