Yeah, I remember that being commented on at the time. 30 something years on, and I still have no idea how they got all of that hair under that short, blonde wig though!
Hearing you say, “I didn’t know how I was going to like this movie, because I’m not familiar with the cast, and it’s older,” makes me realize how old I am 😂😂
@Sandy-k4k4v Christopher Nolan and Ryan Murphy are two other directors that have their own "stable" of actors. It makes their work interesting, how many different ways, etc.
Aside from Barnard Thompson being the head of security in The Princess Diaries..The elevator guy was Mr. Robitussin, Mia Thermopolis' neighbor, the dresshop manager was Paolo, Mia's stylist, the younger front desk woman at the hotel is the queen's (Julie Andrew's) personal assistant, and the waiter that catches the flying snail shell does the same when Mia's food goes flying, but follows it up with the line "happens all the time." Kind of a weird movie to be a favorite of kid-me (i was also obsessed with Dirty Dancing 😂), but teen me was happy for all the little Easter eggs in the Princess Diaries when it came out. And yeah, likely not coincidence in casting Julia Robert's lookalike Anne Hathaway in homage to this movie.
I also love the fact that in both the princess diaries and pretty woman Gary kept the endearing candid moment of Julia laughing at the jewelry box on her hand and Anne laughing at really falling on the bleachers.
Gary Marshall is also the voice of the homeless person Richard Gere asks for directions to Beverly Hills and he says "you're here! That's Sylvester Stalone's house right there"
A little bit of trivia: 1. The first shots of Vivian dressing is a body double. 2. The voice of the man giving directions to Edward (“this is Sylvester Stallone’s house”) is the Director’s voice, Garry Marshall. 3. Garry Marshall has directed gems such as The Princess Diaries, New Year’s Eve, Beaches, and Overboard. And his sister, Penny Marshall, is also a famous director and often works with him, she’s directed A League of Their Own, The Preacher’s Wife, and Big and also starred with her brother in Hocus Pocus as husband and wife! 4. The croissant that Vivian eats at breakfast after the first night has a continuity error as it changes from a croissant to a pancake. 5. The closing of the jewelry box scene before the Opera was improvised and it was Julia’s authentic reaction. 6. The catching of the escargot is mirrored in the Princess Diaries with the exact same actor since Garry Marshall directed both. Glad y’all watched this classic but I hope one day u consider A League of Their Own. It’s one of my absolute favorites and has Geena Davis, Tom Hanks and Garry Marshall in it!
When the cast of Pretty Woman did a reunion interview, Richard Gere said he wasn't interested in doing the movie, but when the director had him meet Julia Roberts he was so taken by her that after just one conversation with her he took the job ❤
@ameliacraiig4193 No they didn't, though it was a big rumor that went around from the time Pretty Woman came out to after they starred in Runaway Bride together.
bryce saying julia kind of resembles anne hathaway reminded me of the "meme" of julien solomita not knowing the difference between sandra bullock, anne hathaway and julia roberts lmaoo
When they mentioned Anne Hathaway started laughing. I think he would also think the same thing about Jamie Presley, Margot Robbie, Emma Mackey, Sahara Weaving, and Jamie king
The opera they go to see is La Traviata. Which is about a young courtesan (aka prostitute) who falls in love with a nobleman. So basically it mirrors the plot of Pretty Woman itself.
You guys will love Erin Brockovich! It's not a rom-com, maybe you could call it a dramedy based on true events- with some romantic elements but it's not a love story at all. Still a great movie, and JR won that Oscar for it! Another excellent Julia Roberts film (not to mention Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Don Cheadle, Matt Damon, Andy Garcia, Carl Reiner, Elliot Gould, Scott Caan, Topher Grace- I'm probably leaving someone out but this is off the top of my head) is Oceans Eleven, I can see you guys having a stellar time with it.

Zuff is the real MVP of this reaction 😂 It was great to revisit this iconic movie with you, y’all are so young OMG Rob Marshall directed this movie in 1990 then Princess Diaries 10+ years later, so yeah all the references make sense.
Julia was so young in this! She was like 22 when this was filmed and richard gere(Edward) 41? The movie that made her famous. And honestly i feel like it wouldn't of worked as well without her.
Their age gap still skeeves me out. Dude is nearly old enough to be her dad. Ew. That said, Julia Roberts is fantastic in this movie and I still [mostly] like Richard Gere's character. The side characters add so much to the movie.
The guy who caught the snail at the restaurant, is the same guy who caught food at the dinner ann Hathaway was at in the princess diaries. The manager at the store, he was paulo the hair dresser in princess diaries as well lol. Gary Marshall is one of my favorites for doing stuff like that. And yes, islands are underwater mountains he's correct on that!
For more Julia Roberts you guys should definitely check out Steel Magnolias, Step mom, My best friend's wedding, Notting Hill, Ocean's Eleven, Mirror Mirror, Hook, Erin Brockovich, Runaway Bride, Mona Lisa Smiles
@@irenemichelleanne ERIN BROCKOVICH! True story about on of the largest cases of EPA/contamination cases ever. You think she was beautiful in Pretty Woman…you ain’t seen nothing. 😊
17:02 While watching this movie today her outfit doesn’t seem too outlandish, but it was much different then. They weren’t used to people walking around in the middle of the day dressed so scandalously. So it makes sense for high society people to look down on her when she’s dressed like that.
It’s a little disappointing when younger people watch movies but don’t take the year the film was made into account. I understood this (apparently) advanced concept by the time I was 12 or 13🤣
Not only can Richard Gere play the piano, he composed the music he was playing in the lounge when Julia came downstairs in her robe looking for him. I've loved that short bit of music ever since I saw this movie in the theater and would give anything to hear the entire song. Julia Roberts is an exceptional addition to every movie she's ever been in and I can only hope you'll get around to watching SLEEPING WITH THE ENEMY and ERIN BROCKOVICH; two very different but excellent films. Aloha from the Big Island of Hawai'i 🌈🌞 ...which is also a mountain! Two, actually!! 😂🤙
I love this movie. I adore how charming Julia Roberts made this character. I feel like the movie does a great job of showing how magnetic her energy is. Big fan. I catch myself quoting the “lights! Lights would be good here!” line all the time lol
My mum had a Pretty Woman themed 23rd birthday where everyone had to dress either as an escort or as Vivian post "makeover", and my mum dressed in her outfit from the beginning and this is why I've always known my mum was a baddie fr
That fact about your foot being the same size as the distance from your wrist to your elbow is actually very true. Put your shoe there and you'll see. It's the same size.
Keep in mind this was 1990. $100/hr is equivalent to about $250/hr today. And $300/night is about $750 today. $750 for 1 nights work is pretty good today 😆
Pretty Woman was my mom’s favourite movie. She passed in 2021, but on the first anniversary of her death, I watched it and ate her favourite pizza and wings. Rest in peace, mom. I’ll always think of you when I see the Rodeo drive shopping scene.
Im a little older than you guys by about 8-10 years i guess...i gotta say...awesome reaction to a movie i watched more times than i can count as a teen!!!!! ❤❤ that scene when she goes into the store....beyond iconic....girls my age still quote it constantly!!!

Yay I'm so glad you liked the movie!! 😊 One of my Favourites from the 80's! Richard Gere was a big heartthrob back in the day and Julia Roberts of course is stunning. And yes it's great to see how both characters go through changes in the movie for the better. Due to Vivian's influence Edward isn't the ruthless businessman anymore and acrually cares and wants to help Morse his client at the end. He also has never been able to comit to one woman and is kind of scared of that before Vivian and I love that Vivian gets her Fairytale ending ❤
Fun fact, the scene where he shows Viviane the necklace in the box and closes the lid on her hand, Julia didn't realise they were filming so it was kind of just an outtake, but it fit so well with her character they kept it in😂
Rob hasn’t seen any Julia Robert’s movies?!? Oh man…. I would love it if you guys watched Steel Magnolias!!! It’s such a classic and it has Dolly Parton in it… such a good movie..
Yay!! Now Runaway Bride pleeeeease 🙏 - weirdly has one of the healthiest relationships and least toxic couples/romances in romcoms. Especially around the time it was released.
I can't believe you've never seen any other Julia Roberts movies!!! Please put up a poll of which of her movies to watch next so I can vote for Erin Brockovich
Garry Marshall directed both Pretty Woman and Princess Diaries. He also cast Julia and Anne himself so he for sure cast similar faces cause I see the resemblance too
You guys haven't done Julia's movie, Steel Magnolias yet HAVE YOU?! OMG! You must! Lol Song at the beginning, "King of Wishful Thinking"! I saw you guys gettin' it lolol
Pretty Woman and Princess Diaries are both Gary Marshall films. The receptionist at the hotel, and the elevator man are his kids. They both also feature in the Princess Diaries.
This is a Disney movie. In the 80s-90s Disney released their more adult-oriented movies under the Touchstone label. Down & Out in Beverly Hills, Ruthless People, Outrageous Fortune, Big Business, and Beaches are some great Bette Midler movies she made with Touchstone.
wait i did some research and originally this movie was meant to be a dark drama! i can see it lol and i know it’s so unrealistic but i looooove this movie
I never understood what was so great about this film and also personally couldn’t see the “crazy chemistry” other people always claimed they had 💀 It’s so funny that they say he acts like a robot because I always found his mannerisms so unnatural too 😆 They should react to My Best Friend’s Wedding! Another famous Julia Roberts movie and it’s right up their alley, they would have tons of fun with it.
Someone might have already mentioned this, but the kind of really funny backstory about this film is that Richard Gere played a sex worker (gigolo/escort for rich women) in a movie in either the late 70s or early 80s called American Gigolo (it also had the dude who played Barnard in it), so it was kind of wild that they did a role-reversal over a decade later w/ the same actor. The main song in that one was a hit and is still well known: Call Me, by Blondie... this film also had a popular, bangin' soundtrack. Later these two did another film together called Runaway Bride, they're a beloved duo and old friends.
The guy at the store also played the hair stylist in Princess Diaries who gave Mia the makeover! The actor who played the dad in 10 Things I Hate About You
This movie is so good, so glad you reacted to it. If you want to see more of Julia Roberts, which I hope you do, I recommend Stepmom, a more emotional and dramatic movie about love, divorce, being a step parent, and making a blended family work. There you will also see the incredible Susan Sarandon. So emotional, but such a good movie! For a more fun and lighthearted romcom, also with Richard Gere as her love interest, I recommend Runaway Bride. Definitely worth a watch as well!
He did change and she helped him with that, but you need to remember his mother. His wealthy father decided she wasn’t enough but Edward knew better. So Vivian didn’t teach him what was important. She just reminded him.
My God!!!! I can't remember a single BAD Julia Roberts movie. And THIS... They don't make this type of movie anymore. A classic is a classic for a reason and this is perfection!!!!!
When this movie came out little girls across America dreamed of growing up to become hookers and one day having Richard Gere pull up and whisk them away to happily ever after land.

Love when y’all do a movie none of you have seen before! Good to see y’all together !
who knew I'd be laughing this much 🤣🤣 man I love zuff
I was obsessed with this movie when it came on tv for the first time! I was in high school and everyone in class was talking about this the next day
Pretty Woman and Princess Diaries are both Gary Marshall films. The receptionist at the hotel, and the elevator man are his kids. They both also feature in the Princess Diaries.
33:17 zuff is one of the funniest people I’ve ever seen!!!! You 3 each bring something so special to this channel
24:52 he was ALSO in Princess diaries 😂
Yes I was fully expecting them to say that 😂
Even the elevator bell hop is in princess diaries. But Gary Marshall did this movie and princess diaries so he tended to reuse his actors
such a classic movie & one of my top 10 favorite comfort movies
38:13 Depeche mode mentioned 🗣️‼️‼️
Zuff actually being right about islands. Even a broken clock is right twice a day. Lol.
You gotta watch Sandra Bullocks in While You Were Sleeping. Best Rom Com Christmas movie
“They better watch out for boothe” goodbye Zuff
Zuff is such a sweetheart
The guy at the store also played the hair stylist in Princess Diaries who gave Mia the makeover! The actor who played the dad in 10 Things I Hate About You
My mom looked like Julia Roberts when she was younger! Very contagious beautiful smiles!
Check out "Runaway Bride" starring Gere and Roberts too. Another great romcom.
fun fact: this is a Gary Marshall film and he loved having Hector Alonso in all of his films because he felt he was lucky 😊
More respect for the incredible Richard Gere please! 😄 Watch Officer and a Gentleman ;-)
This film was HUUUUUGE! And turned Julia into an A Lister ❤❤
He did change and she helped him with that, but you need to remember his mother. His wealthy father decided she wasn’t enough but Edward knew better. So Vivian didn’t teach him what was important. She just reminded him.
I was in high school when this came out so thank you all for making me feel ancient.
The boys made me realize i would love a thriller or horror version of pretty woman
It's called Sleeping With The Enemy
You guys are my favorite reaction channel - wholesome, hilarious… 😊
A true classic
35:56 “they better watch out for booth” took me outttt☠️😭
Honestly, you two BOTH did a good impression of Roy Orbison
Oh I'd love to see you guys reacting to Runway Bride, it has most of the actors of this movie and it has a really fun plot
Great review and comments guys. I've subscribed to your channel to see more of your reactions to other films.
