I WAS ALREADY CRYING WHEN BROOKS WAS RELEASED BECAUSE I KNEW WHAT WAS COMING AND I FIGURED THAT AMBER WOULD BREAK DOWN WHEN HE DIES!! THAT SCENE GETS ME EVERY TIME!! GREAT REACTION!! WHEN YOU GET TO THE GREEN MILE, IT WILL BE THE SAME ROLLER COASTER RIDE!!! A BEAUTIFUL FILM NONE THE LESS!!! BUT HAVE TISSUES AVAILABLE!!
Yes indeed. Brilliant movie. Hard to believe Tim Robbins can be a bad man. Lol. Definitely a box of kleenex movie. Maybe Princess Bride next. 👰♂ Still a hanky movie with less violence. Buckets of Maple Syrup love from Canada ❤️❤️ 🇨🇦🇨🇦
I absolutely LOVE this movie. A lot of people think if it's Stephen King, it has to be guts and gore. But horror is subjective. Being thrown in jail for a crime you didn't commit is absolutely horrifying!! Brilliant writing and brilliant acting.
@@nickc127 Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption. It’s the opening novella in the collection, Different Seasons. They also have put it out as an individual paperback recently.
@@nickc127 I think The Body is also in Different Seasons and isn't gory. 11/22/63 and Delores Claiborne aren't gory. And Misery and the Green Mile are light on gore I think.
@@nickc127 My favourite non-horror books from him are "11/22/63" , "The Green Mile", and "The Girl who Loved Tom Gordon" but there are many, many more. You should definitely check as many as you can out. His novels are a masterclass on writing great characters.
In 1995 I turned this movie on alone in a hotel room at 2am as something to listen to trying to fall asleep. 3 hours later I was standing on the bed teary eyed and clapping. Best movie ever. Glad you both loved it too!
I too stumbled onto the best movie ever made coming in late one night, planning to hit the rack right away.My tv was on & I noticed Morgan Freemans name on the opening credits. I didn't recognize the movie's name but figured to give it a chance. The best movie I've ever seen. YOU WERE RIGHT. WARDEN, SALVATION DID LAY WITHIN! And the carved out spot where he hid the hammer was the first page of EXODUS! F'NG BRILLIANT!
I was on vacation with a girlfriend and we'd both seen the movie before when it came on at 11pm... went to sleep around 5am since they played it back to back lol. My all time favorite movie EVER!
I had a very similar experience with Fargo… Had to purchase it again and watch it again after I finished.. Hard to recall so long ago but I remember the selections being pretty thin when my 2 friends and I saw this.. So it was probably in January or February.. It was a totally random choice by us and the experience was memorable..
"I hope I can make it across the border. I hope to see my friend and shake his hand. I hope the Pacific is as blue as it has been in my dreams. I hope..." Few movies have a better closing line. An absolute masterpiece.
Morgan Freeman said on Graham Norton that “he hopes” people will one day stop asking him to do that voiceover 😂😂😂 it’s undeniably beautiful for the movie, but it’s fun to see Morgan say that
@@potato-whiz The interesting thing about that being the final line of the book is that there is no closure. The book never says if Red made it to Mexico. It's open to interpretation. Test audiences for the movie didn't like the ambiguous ending, so the final scene was filmed to make up for it.
This film was always so special to me. I had a brain aneurism some 30 years ago and was not expected to live. After a very new and at the time very experimental surgery my family was not sure how much of me was still there mentally. My brother was my bedside when I woke. He asked me if there was anything he could get me, he looked so concerned and I wanted to make him relax, but I could feel myself falling back asleep so I said "A poster of Rita Hayworth and a rock hammer", and I fell back asleep under all the drugs. He went dejected back to the quiet room and told the family what I had said and he was sure I was not there mentally. My wife burst out laughing and said "Oh no, that's him, its his favorite movie, he is saying he wants to escape". She was exactly right. a couple of decades later after my wife was diagnosed with cancer and got through chemo, I took her to Zihuatanejo
WOW that's crazy!!! loved reading this I literally screenshot it just to always remember how stories can impact our lives (like how the story from your life is now impacting mine!). thanks for sharing and I'm glad to hear you and your family are doing well now!
This masterpiece is not the only one by Frank Darabont. He is also screenwriter / director of *"The Green Mile".* It's another prison movie also with an original story by Stephen King. An ABSOLUTE MUST WATCH!!
This movie was largely a box office failure. It exploded on home video and has gone on to be considered one of the greatest movies of all time. It barely made a dent at the Academy Awards. It's amazing how so many people missed the mark back when it first hit.
One of the greatest movies of all time. Amazingly it didn't do well at the US box office when first released in 1994. It was nominated for seven Academy awards including Best Picture and Best Actor(Morgan Freeman) but didn't win any of them. After being released on home video and shown on cable TV it soon became one of the most popular films of all time and is regarded as a classic.
I never saw it when it came out...but i did see the film that won the Oscar that year and it was Forrest Gump....I loved Forrest Gump but after seeing both I think Shawshank was a better movie and deserved the Oscar....
Shawshank Redemption, Forrest Gump, and Pulp Fiction were all the same year. Any one of those should have run the Oscars in most years, but they had to go against each other.
And weirdly enough, if I recall correctly, it is very popular with women. A prison movie, with just men? But it is so much about humanity, and friendship, so why not?
Yeah, the problem was that this movie, despite being one of the best in cinema history, didn't get the attention it deserved due to being released the same year as Forrest Gump and Pulp Fiction. Such a same, if those three had been released in different years they would have gotten an Oscar for each one
To me, there are 3 perfect "non-horror" Stephen King movies. This, The Green Mile, and Stand By Me. I highly recommend you react to the other two if you haven't seen them already. Also, if you haven't seen Dead Poets Society, that is a must watch also. Especially since you guys are teachers.
The one aspect of Andy’s escape that most people don’t connect is that by exposing the nature of the system a softer approach was adopted and that is why Red got paroled. It’s the last and most important part of the brilliance of the writing. Will always be my favorite movie.
I don't really know, Redd said the same thing each time he was up for parol, it was rehearsed, insincere, and was what he thought they wanted to hear. I think him getting out was more to do with his sincerity and feeling genuine remorse and not just doing what he thought would get him released. The warden had no reason to keep Redd.
You two are the sweetest people I've seen on the Internet. It is so nice seeing a couple who are not hardened and cynical, and feel compassion for others.
May I add that even though you may not read through replies, I feel the Holy Spirit working through everything Rob Squad puts out. God bless Jay and Amber.
I don't know if their hearts can take either Green Mile OR Forest Gump, but I do agree...both are (with the addition of Saving Private Ryan) Tom Hanks at his finest. Steel Magnoilas (with Dolly Parton) and Fried Green Tomatoes should be added to the list.
One of the greatest films ever made, proof a great story with brilliant actors is all you need; you don’t need 100 million budgets or special effects to make a classic… It’s where legend of Morgan Freeman’s narration voice came from…
The last 20 minutes of this movie is so totally perfect. The use of quiet, the use of Morgans amazing voice. It was simple and so still; doesnt need big action with small and quiet is more powerful.
When Amber was so upset, I wanted to reassure her to stick with it because of the end. The end makes it all worth it. This movie is about deep friendship at its core. It's one of my favorites. Even though I always cry about Brook dying and Red being denied parole, it's in my top 5 movies.
This is a perfect film. Not a second wasted. Every scene, word, and note played perfectly to yield an emotionally and spiritually fulfilling experience that gives the viewer the greatest feeling of catharsis.
I love the line: "the last thing to go through his head other than that bullet..." What makes this movie great is the breadth of emotion... the extreme lows... AND highs.
Fun fact: "Captain Byron Hadley" (The cruel prison guard leader) is played by Clancy Brown. Clancy also plays, in probably, the most popular KIDS show right now. He's the voice of 'Mr. Krabs' in "SpongeBob SquarePants."
THE ABSOLUTE BEST reaction to this movie I have seen. Y’all have sweet caring souls and it made your reactions that much better. Look forward to more!!
You good people need a comedy...may I recommend Airplane! or The Naked Gun...for an edgier comedy Blazing Saddles...take it with a grain of salt....When you are ready and have tissues "The Green Mile" by the same writer and director as The Shawshank Redemption. Amistad for Juneteenth. Love the channels and your vibe!
I have seen this movie dozens of times. At least once each year since it came out and I cry every single time. One of the greatest films ever made. This was a joy seeing you two experience it.
I’m a picky movie watcher, but when people say this is the greatest movie ever, I don’t necessarily disagree. I don’t agree, but I don’t disagree. There’s just something about this movie that makes it a transcendent experience.
I want to say something funny regarding "March of the Penguins" but I can't think of anything. So I'll just comment Morgan Freeman's narration really Really adds a whole 1 (at least) of the 5 stars I'd give this movie. The best?...ehhhh possibly. 🙂👍
Yeah, hard to argue. It's up there for sure, and after that, what's the difference. It's ridiculously good on so many levels -- think about it, when someone can be so put off and disturbed a third into the movie, and get so emotional, amazed, and impressed by the end, you did a great job.
My great-grandfather was incarcerated in the actual prison used in the filming of 'Shawshank Redemption' (The Ohio State Reformatory). He was there in 1913 after he and some friends robbed a saloon in Cleveland, Ohio (he got shot 5 times by the saloon owners bad-ass wife! and somehow, he lived.) He was there in 1921 for another crime (some kind of robbery) I found a prison record for him and it said he was thrown in "the hole" a few times for making skeleton keys (he was a tool maker). And P.S. the apple fell VERY FAR from the tree! lol
honestly the best movie ever, Stephan King even knows how to write movies that aren't scary due to his great writing talent. I loved the development of the friendship between Andy and Red
Actually the movie is brilliant but it comes from a Stephen King short story that was only a few pages long. The story is the same but the director of this movie gave it heart and the movie is far better than the short story.
@@vaskylark the movie also kinda made some moments of the story more emotional then the book did which was I suppose intended for making the movie more intense
Took me a few years to realize just how amazing Andy was. He had just broken out of prison and went to bury the money and letter to Red before he headed West. He risked his own freedom.
This movie has it all. It's a buddy movie, an odd couple movie, a revenge movie, a movie about making the best of whatever situation you find yourself in, a movie about coming to terms with your past mistakes, a movie about hope and disappointment, a movie about trying to help others even when your own situation is bleak, a prison break movie, a movie about good and evil, and most of all a movie about the human spirit and never giving up.
I’ve been watching y’all’s videos for a while. I’ve been battling mental health and been alone, y’all’s videos make me feel like I’m not alone sometimes. Thank you!
Such a great movie 💞💞I agree some of those scenes are brutal, but that is the kind of stuff that really happens in prison. Another movie based on Stephen King is "The Green Mile" and is so moving. Starring Tom Hanks.
The greatest movie of all time! Nominated for 7 Oscars including Best Picture but lost to Forrest Gump which took home 6. Paul Newman, Clint Eastwood, Robert Duvall and Gene Hackman were considered for Red, The Film's narrator. Tom Cruise, Tom Hanks, Kevin Costner, Nicolas Cage, Charlie Sheen, and Johnny Depp were considered for Andy.
You two have captured the feeling of Shawshank perfectly. This movie is a true gem that we only get to experience once... but now, we get to experience it for the first time again, vicariously, because of channels like yours. Thank you!
If there is such thing as a motion picture masterpiece, I’m pretty sure this is the one. Probably on most everyone’s top 10 list of all time. It has to be one of the best endings of any movie of all time if not the best. The best story/movie of genuine friendship and brotherhood I’ve ever seen. Thanks for the review, enjoyed watching you guys reaction as always.
Definitely one of the best reactions to this movie I've seen. After watching the first 10 minutes of the reaction (with the 'new fish' beating part) and knowing what was coming next I knew you guys would find it hard, especially Amber. Thought she was about to walk out the room at one point. Glad you both stuck with it.
Still at the #1 on imdb's top 250 movies. Been like that for over a decade. Understandably so. And still among my DVD collection. Not often I watch through an entire reaction video without skipping parts, but I watched your entire video because I could relate to your reactions,
I love that you put in Reds honest and full answer. How he wishes he could talk to his younger, dumber self is really profound. Hits home that its not just the time hes served, its all of his own life he wasted when he committed that crime. Whats more an example of a changed man than him admitting hes got to spend the rest of his life wishing he knew then what he knows now and nothing will ever change that?
Steven King is known for his horror tales, but his best stories are about the human spirit. Loved your reaction to an all time favourite! Love from South Africa!
Many of the scenes were filmed at the former Ohio State Reformatory, which was in operation from 1896-1990. It actually offers regular tours--which is something you might consider if you're planning a Rock and Roll HOF/Pro Football HOF trip. That's because it's located in Mansfield, Ohio--about an hour away from both Cleveland and Canton.
I have been there multiple times. Really cool place to explore. Was lucky enough to do one of the overnight ghost hunts. Highly recommend to anyone interested in that. They give you access to about 95% of the prison. Some places are off limits for safety reasons.
$10 in 1949 would equal $130 on 2024. That year, Andy helped the guard keep ~$455 grand in today's money, tax-free, and made it out with ~$3.5 mln of Warden's money in 1966. Thanks for an awesome reaction, guys! 💖👍
One of the best cinematic masterpieces ever. The outdoor scenes were filmed at State Penitentiary Mansfield OH. Andy's wife didn't leave - had side action while pretending. King writes true horror better than anyone, past or present. Having you share this with us was a privilege.
This movie came out in 1994, maybe the last great year in movies. So many classics that year, but 4 movies that came out that year that should be seen by everyone! Shawshank, Forrest Gump, Pulp Fiction and The Lion King.
A very interesting historically accurate detail that this movie includes that most people don't get without being told (I didn't) is, during the part where the police come to the prison and are arresting the big guard, the detective pulls a card out of his pocket and reads him his Miranda rights from the card. I never thought to ask why the cop wouldn't have the memorized. The reason is because, the year that scene was supposed to have happened is 1966 and that was the year that Miranda rights were introduced, so reading those rights to a suspect was a brand new procedure.
If you watch a lot of police interrogations (like I do) you’ll see that they still read them their Miranda rights from a card. I would think that it’s to assure that they’re covered legally and can’t be accused of leaving something out and invalidating the interrogation.
Cops are taught to always read the rights from the card. The reason behind that is because if they don't say it correctly, the defense can use that as proof that the rights weren't properly given. My teacher told us that the lawyer will ask if it was read from the card and if the cop says "no" they'll ask the cop to say it from memory for the court to try and prove they don't have as great a memory they claim. (Not a cop, considered the profession and my degree is in criminal justice. Ferguson happened and I dropped that career path)
I knew the actor who played Captain Hadley - the worst security guard in the world. His brother and my college boyfriend played D1 football together. He did everything to be at his brother's games. He is one of the sweetest men I've ever met. He, his parents, and his brother, Roy, we're the sweetest family ever. If it helps you with his character, he is the voice of Mr. Krabs on SpongeBob SquarePants. Clancy Brown is an absolute sweetheart. We always sat next to each other and had so much fun together (even when they were losing!). I miss our time together (over 30 years ago) every Saturday. He's an amazing and talented man.
There is a clip of him in a podcast saying that the scene that made his skin crawl the most was when his character kills the new chubby inmate, and then he jokes that his character kills the same actor in another show, so he has killed him twice on TV. Really funny bit.
Great reaction as usual! The part where the warden finds the rock hammer in the Bible, the book was Exodus. That’s when Moses led his people out of slavery from Egypt. Great detail in this movie! Keep up the good work!
So glad you chose to view this movie. Its a total masterpiece. "Get busy living or get busy dying" Hard to pick a favourite movie but for sure this is in my top 3.
My heart was aching for you from the moment I saw your reaction to the first brutal scene. I just kept saying, "hang in there, you'll love the redemption in the end". I'm glad you stuck with it, and there's NO SHAME in "turning away from the evilness". Love that about you!
It can be painful in part but when you get to the end you realize that it's a perfect story of all the aspects that make us human. Ultimately the resilience and friendship triumph. It's a beautiful story that you don't often see with male leads. And the story is crafted beautifully so that the audience is just as surprised as the characters in the cell when the rock goes through the poster and the truth is unveiled.
Yeah but the flaw is how did the poster get put back up when he crawls through the tunnel? Family Guy is one of the tv shows that has asked this in the past.
This is a masterpiece. I don’t usually watch any kind of video over about 15 minutes, but I stayed for the whole thing this time and I wasn’t disappointed. You guys are beautiful in a way that too few people are in the world today. I’m happy to know there are still people like you. Much love ❤️
This was based on "Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption - a short story by Stephen King... it was considered by many to be the prelude to him writing "The Green Mile" - not sure if Mr. King thought of it that way, but it was probably Michael Clarke Duncan's finest movie performance.
More of a novella than a short story, but yeah. Most of the stories in it have been made into movies. The Body became Stand By Me and Apt Pupil became a movie of the same name. I heard they were working on a production of The Breathing Method, but I'm not sure what's up with that.
Oddly enough, some of my favorite Stephen King works are the ones that don't contain any supernatural elements. Rita Hayworth And The Shawshank Redemption (the full title of the novella) is easily in my top tier of great films. Stand By Me (based on the novella 'The Body') is another masterful adaptation...as is Misery. Great reaction to a brilliant film, you guys! Keep rockin' and stay heavy! Wishing everyone peace, love, and good happiness stuff from the mountains of northeastern Alabama 🤘
That's not odd. I also recognized that The Green Mile is a great movie with really moving sequences, BUT I have a problem with its "mystical" side. So it lefts me with a mitigated reaction between great moments, and the mystic disbelief I get. (Sorry I'm French so I might have not used the right way to explain what I mean).
I'm glad y'all got through this movie too because it really is such a great story, full of great actors, done by great filmmakers. It's well worth the rollercoaster of emotions on the way, imo. I love that you both are so compassionate and empathic that the moments of human misery hit you so hard though, as a compassionate, empathic person myself, it's hard to watch how much it hurts you. That being said, in a movie like this, it helps to understand that the darkest parts of it are there so that you feel the brighter parts even more deeply. If prison wasn't so horrible and tragic and the warden and guards weren't such monsters, Andy's triumph wouldn't feel as euphoric and hard-earned as it does. The bad parts aren't there for us to enjoy in some gross, uncaring way; they're placed there to hurt our hearts so the end of the story can not only refill but overflow them. A great example of top-tier storytelling and filmmaking comes with one of the saddest moments. After setting up Brooks' inability to make it on the outside, we see him give up and hang himself and it's, obviously, a horrible, tragic end for a lovely character. But, in addition to giving you a scene to feel for this nice, old man and providing a dip on the emotional rollercoaster, it does two things for the story: (1) It sets up a contrast between what happens to Brooks and what Andy does for Red to save him from the same fate; and (2) because we see Brooks hang himself, when we later see Andy sitting in his cell with a rope, looking intense and in what we think is his lowest moment, the obvious expectation is that he too is going to hang himself. Because of that expectation based on having just seen someone use a rope that way not long before, it sets up that mind-blowing moment when you suddenly realize that Andy didn't kill himself, he didn't give up, he's made his escape. Basically, the script sets up an expectation in your mind and then subverts it to HUGE effect, thereby increasing the joy you feel in Andy's escape even more. It's just really, really well done. Great reaction, y'all! You're really finding the right balance for this movie channel already and I'm loving it. But, for real, give yourself a break and go for a lighter movie on the next one! Maybe "Back To The Future" or "The Princess Bride." You will love both of them, guaranteed, and they'll be a nice, fun ride for you both without any heart-hurting. There'll be more opportunities for darker movies that are still worth the ride but I feel like you two could use some comedy and adventure next to catch your breath.
''When they sent you here for life, that's exactly what they take. The part that counts anyway''. Gets me every time. Tough reality check. When the movie was send out in the cinema's, it wasn't well received but when the movie was put up for rent, millions of people watched it and liked it and then it became one of the best movies of all time.
THE BEST MOVIE!! Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman were excellent in this film. This movie had a rollercoaster of emotions but made the ending worth the watch....bear with it, Jay & Amber...you won't be disappointed.
One of the best! Morgan Freeman is my favorite actor. If you haven’t seen “Glory”, you should really check it out. Morgan Freeman & Denzel Washington star in this movie based on the true story of one of the first black regiments in the Civil War. Awful hard to watch at times but, it is an incredible movie!
Both Shawshank and Green Mile were short stories by Stephen King adapted into movies and directed by Frank Darabont! I think that you can tell in the story telling, comedic timing, and overall delivery! Both outstanding films!!
The Green Mile isn't a short story, it's a novel, but it was originally released as a serial in 6 parts. After randomly grabbing the first one in the supermarket checkout line, I was there on the first of every month for the next 5 months to continue the story. It was excruciating, but brilliant. Still have the little serial paperbacks.
The thing that always struck me was when Andy entered that pipe corridor, the tunnel had long been completed. He knew he had to plan his escape on a night when there would be a big thunderstorm to cover the sound of him cracking open that sewer. That alone might have taken over a year-just waiting on the weather.
An interesting note from the book not mentioned in the movie was that there was also a ticking clock: that section of the prison with the sewer-system was due for an upgrade which would have made escape impossible. So Andy had to wait for the right night but he couldnt wait forever
38:34 is one of my all time favorite compositions in cinema history. You have Andy who is hours away from breaking out of the prison walk into the light, while Red who still thinks hope is a bad thing in there remains in the shadow of the prison. Except for his head. Red's head pokes just past the shadow in the backwall as Andy tells him about what he plans to hide under the rock - giving Red something to hope for when he gets out. Its such a simple shot, but the composition and lighting thoroughly match what's going on in each characters psyche at the time. Andy is already out of the prison walls in his mind and Red, while still institutionalized sticks his head out from the shadows as Andy gives him a small reason to hope. Beautifully simple but entirely complete shot right there.
I was really happy to see that you were watching this. It's one of my favorites, but it is a hard movie to watch at times. But to me it's totally worth it. After you have a break from this movie, I have another suggestion. This movie was based off a short story by Stephen King, and the next one I'm suggesting is , too. It's The Green Mile. It's from a Stephen King story , same director as Shawshank, and some of the same actors. It's also set in a prison. Tom Hanks and Michael Clark Duncan are the two lead actors. It's amazing, and I sincerely hope you react to it some time. OH! I almost forgot, Saturday Night Live does a great skit based off of Red's parole board scene. It's on youtube, just put in "Saturday Night Live parole board" Blake Shelton is in the skit as well. Love all your channels, and I am so happy to see you have a reaction to movies channel now. Wishing you and your family has a great summer!
If this was hard to watch, "The Green Mile" will absolutely destroy you. One of the best movies in cinematic history and an absolute must watch, but it it'll make just about anyone cry when they see it.
btw, the "second cousin of Harvey the rabbit" Randell Stevens. What used to happen in the US was when a child was still-born (aka born dead) they'd get a birth certificate and that would be it. since the child was dead it wouldn't get a death certificate and the records were just closed. less than reputable people could go into those records, find someone born 20-30 years ago and use that birth certificate to file for other paperwork and create people who didn't exist. Now files are more detailed and it isn't as simple as that. That's why it was simple enough for Andy to create a person from nothing.
The best part of watching Rob Squad is watching you both explore new music and films and the expansion in your tastes in both. Rap and sports movies are cool but there is so much more in this world out there that is still waiting to be explored. As a married couple, I believe your gentleness and caring will carry you through your journey ahead.
Next, you have to watch"The Green Mile." Shawshank is a classic. It was not a hit when it came out, it found its audience on home video, and is now widely acknowledged as one of the greatest movies ever made. This is a textbook example of what great filmmaking is
Yes apparently the title was its downfall because it didn’t give any clue as to what the film was about, so people didn’t go to see it. But then praise eventually spread via word of mouth and it went on to become a classic.
@@dennislittau6320 Yea, that was driving me nuts a bit. I mean I know its a heavy film and those are heartbreaking scenes. But its not like people were actually being harmed. I've never seen anyone react that way to fictionalized violence.
Shawshank Redemption is still No. 1 in IMDb's top movies of all time. Shows that a movie's initial reception tells little about its longevity. This movie will always be great and the way the story turns the key towards the finale makes it such a positive experience. Personally, I don't think Green Mile even comes close.
I’ve watched this movie numerous times but I still enjoyed watching it with you. Here’s a bit of trivia: when the oak tree near which Red found Andy’s letter was blown down by the wind in July 2016, it made international news (both print and TV). Even down here in South Africa, our bulletins reported on the death of the Shawshank tree. The only time, as far as I know, a trees death mattered that much. Thanks for sharing your experience and much love from South Africa!
Flawless masterpiece about Hope, Humanity and Freedom. As universal a movie as can be. Brooks story... Brooks gets me every time. And the line : "I guess I just miss my friend.", damn... 😢 Anyway great reaction. You two are so nice, soft-spoken young people. Keep up the good word 👌 😀
I love that " i guess i just miss my friend and also when hes on the bus and he says he is "so excited like a kid and I cant wait to see my friend" Brooks is so affecting, that when the actor died a few yrs back, i thought of Brooks.
I’ve seen this movie hundreds of times so instead of talking about the movie I want to talk about how you reacted to it. You guys did in my opinion an awesome job this time with your reaction. It seemed to me that in movies past you talked a lot over the actors dialogue and in this one you let the movie breathe and let the story be told by the movie. I loved watching your emotions as the movie played out. Once again great job and look forward to further reactions.
The letter scene towards the end, especially when he says chessboard ready and hope is a good thing and good things never die, gets me every time. I have seen this film over 100 times and still cry buckets, a true masterpiece.
You need to see "The Green Mile" to complete the second of two of the best prison movies made! Also written by Stephen King and also directed by Frank Darabont! Those two together created Magic in film making!
Fun fact: Currently, $1.00 in 1966 is equal to $9.39 today. That means that Andy ran off with close to $3.5 million of the warden's ill-gotten money. Plenty of money to buy a little hotel and a fixer-upper fishing boat in Mexico.
I think that one line is "Get busy living, or get busy dying." Not terribly long after this movie came out I reached my rock bottom and after being forced kicking and screaming into drug rehab and court ordered "recovery" and failing miserably at it at first until I calmed down enough to give it am honest shot, this line was my mantra. One of the most incredible experiences of my life was when I had been clean and sober for 7-8 months, my human compassion returned one day out of the blue... that compassion had been missing for so long....
Frank Darabont directed three movies based on the works of Stephen King - Shawshank, The Green Mile and The Mist. Actually, he adapted them as well by contributing the screenplay. He really has the feel for bringing King's works to the screen as these are among my favorite movies made from his works (I also include Misery, The Dead Zone, Stand By Me, and Carrie) .
You guys reminded me how difficult it was to watch this the first time, many years ago. My hairstylist so heavily promoted it, that I was encouraged to push through, like you guys did. Such a big reward at the end - and not just for a moment, like many movies, - but the whole sequence of hope, victory, and retribution playing out was worth baring through all the tough parts before that. Much easier to watch over and over, knowing how it all works out. (and I did watch with you until the end)
This movie’s message about hope, especially its quite happy ending, has really helped to sustain me in this most trying year of life. Happy 30th Anniversary for The Shawshank Redemption. 💓
My favorite movie of all time! And as always, my favorite reactors! I think I sprained my finger hitting the button so fast when I saw you were reviewing it!
"In 1966, Andy Dufresne escaped from Shawshank Prison. All they found of him was a muddy set of prison clothes, a bar of soap, and an old rock hammer, damn near worn down to the nub. I remember thinking it would take a man six hundred years to tunnel through the wall with it. Ol' Andy did it in less than twenty."
the director originally wanted to end the movie with red on the bus with those wonderful last lines of the movie but test audiences were shown the ending where andy and red meet each other on the beach and liked a lot more. i can see that too, especially in a movie that had so many set up and payoff moments, the ending that it got made sense and gave closure.
@@trhansen3244 King never made a sequel to it, but it is set in his shared universe. Each of the books in this collection has a reference to other stories King has written. In any case, it would be almost like blasphemy for somebody else to write a derivative on King's work, so I wouldn't be looking for a sequel. Just accept the happy ending and be glad for it would be my advice.
Watching this video, I remember why I never rewatched this movie even though I liked it. I can’t watch The Green Mile for the same reason. And I love Peaky Blinders, but I have to fast forward through a lot of scenes.
Some of my favorite movies that I think you'll like: *Pleasantville* (Reese Witherspoon and Toby Maguire), *What Dreams May Come* (Robin Williams and Cuba Gooding Jr), and *Steel Magnolias* (Sally Field, Dolly Parton, Julie Roberts, Shirley MacLaine, Olympia Dukakis, Daryl Hannah, Tom Skerrit, Dylan McDermott, etc)
@@karenlong5616 It's one of the most visually stunning movies of its time. The story is incredible. I feel the same way about Pleasantville. It's brilliant how it intertwines the imagery and dual meanings with political movements. I recently watched What Dreams May Come, and it hits differently after Robin's passing.
• “Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies.” • “I mean seriously, how often do you really look at a man’s shoes?” • “Get busy living or get busy dying.” Such a phenomenal piece of storytelling. I absolutely LOVE this movie. A lot of people think if it's Stephen King, it has to be guts and gore. But horror is subjective. Being thrown in jail for a crime you didn't commit is absolutely horrifying!! Brilliant writing and brilliant acting.
Stephen King has written so many things that have nothing to do with guts and gore and people don't get that.

I too stumbled onto the best movie ever made coming in late one night, planning to hit the rack right away.My tv was on & I noticed Morgan Freemans name on the opening credits. I didn't recognize the movie's name but figured to give it a chance. The best movie I've ever seen.

Morgan Freeman said on Graham Norton that “he hopes” people will one day stop asking him to do that voiceover 😂😂😂 it’s undeniably beautiful for the movie, but it’s fun to see Morgan say that
This was also the final line of the book, too, written the exact same way. Stephen King really created a masterpiece.
i hope
@@potato-whiz The interesting thing about that being the final line of the book is that there is no closure. The book never says if Red made it to Mexico. It's open to interpretation. Test audiences for the movie didn't like the ambiguous ending, so the final scene was filmed to make up for it.
One of the best movies ever made. Touches on the human experience deeply.

It is the highest rated film on IMDB..9.3/10. LEGENDARY.
Pretty sure it still ranks #1. Greatest movie ever made.
It's the greatest film of all time, maybe. Although I might pick The Lord of the Rings trilogy instead.
This masterpiece is not the only one by Frank Darabont. He is also screenwriter / director of *"The Green Mile".* It's another prison movie also with an original story by Stephen King. An ABSOLUTE MUST WATCH!!

@@Niinsa62 It was more than a prison movie. It was a film about the human spirit and how it can prevail against insurmountable odds.
Well, 2 outta 3 ain’t bad.
Green Mile might be too hard(emotionally) for them
@@audreyschley8517 True. It’s very heavy (to say the least) but stand by me has a good balance.
I would recommend "The Great Escape" and " Papillon"
Make that four. Dolores Claiborne is the best of the lot, IMO

It’s where legend of Morgan Freeman’s narration voice came from…
Your last sentence about Morgan Freeman…..I heard it in Morgan Freeman’s voice in my head when I read it!

It's on my bucket list. Very unusual build with free standing cells.
Hey Brad, I was at the 25th Anniversary
It is a fun tour and a beautiful building. I grew up in Mansfield. They hired extras in town. I don’t remember if any of my friends became extras.
I have been there multiple times. Really cool place to explore. Was lucky enough to do one of the overnight ghost hunts. Highly recommend to anyone interested in that. They give you access to about 95% of the prison. Some places are off limits for safety reasons.
The great tree at the end was struck by lightning several years ago and had to be removed later, just a few years ago.
I've toured that facility and an ex-brother-in-law graduated HS at Fields while taking a 4-year tour there.
The Supreme Court overturned a part of Miranda, earlier this week: you can no longer sue the police if they 'forget' to read you your rights....

The title is "Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption", from the collection "Different Seasons". This is the "spring" story.
Oh, "The Green Mile".... One of the best movies, EVER!! ❤️
More of a novella than a short story, but yeah. Most of the stories in it have been made into movies. The Body became Stand By Me and Apt Pupil became a movie of the same name. I heard they were working on a production of The Breathing Method, but I'm not sure what's up with that.
The Green Mile is soooo good too!
One of the best movies ever. Raquel Welch died yesterday. 2/15/23
Yes, I think they’d love Stand by Me! It has such heart.

Hahaaaaaa Misery!!! Could you imagine these two reacting to that one! I’ll have my popcorn ready!! 😂🍿
I enjoy King's work quite a bit, but he really did produce some non-horror based bangers. Some of his best works, period.
This movie had a rollercoaster of emotions but made the ending worth the watch....bear with it, Jay & Amber...you won't be disappointed.
bear with it? the whole movie is amazing!
@@cecillegravelle2590
I think Kendra is referring to the fact that it is intense and graphic...and they seemed to be a bit sensitive to such things.
@@kdm71291 yes .ok that makes sense.all good.
I can watch this movie over and over and never get tired of it, and always learn something new!!!
Some of the best Stephen King movies were from his short stories
Who needs CGI when you've got light and great cinematography and acting?
Yes. This. 💯
Shawshank and Forest Gump, two outstanding movies that I can watch over and over. They came out about the same time.
This is in my Top 5 favorite movies of all time.
It is an absolute masterpiece on storytelling, acting, and film.
The Big Lebowski (1998) You won't regret it, Pinballman1
The best part of watching Rob Squad is watching you both explore new music and films and the expansion in your tastes in both. Rap and sports movies are cool but there is so much more in this world out there that is still waiting to be explored. As a married couple, I believe your gentleness and caring will carry you through your journey ahead.
Next, you have to watch"The Green Mile." Shawshank is a classic. It was not a hit when it came out, it found its audience on home video, and is now widely acknowledged as one of the greatest movies ever made. This is a textbook example of what great filmmaking is
With all the times they looked away or covered theyre eyes during this movie,
they won't be able to watch The Green Mile :-D
@@dennislittau6320 Yeah, The Green Mile would be way too hard for them.
Loving the movie reactions guys, as others have said "the green mile" should definitely be your next one, it's amazing. Sending love from Ireland 🇮🇪👍
Meh, green mile is over rated.
@@poolhall9632 So is The Shining.
Love Ireland
Green mile for sure!! It’s up there with shawshank
You two have beautiful souls 🥲 Keep in mind, Forrest Gump beat this movie for Best Picture at the Academy Awards
Rita Hayworth was not "a woman". She was an absolute goddess. Gilda is definitely a movie you should check out. Absolute classic.
Definitely
Flawless masterpiece about Hope, Humanity and Freedom. As universal a movie as can be.
Brooks story... Brooks gets me every time.
And the line : "I guess I just miss my friend.", damn... 😢
Anyway great reaction. You two are so nice, soft-spoken young people. Keep up the good word 👌 😀
I love that " i guess i just miss my friend and also when hes on the bus and he says he is "so excited like a kid and I cant wait to see my friend"
Brooks is so affecting, that when the actor died a few yrs back, i thought of Brooks.
When a movie can tug your emotions all over the place like this, you know it's a good movie
You need to see "The Green Mile" to complete the second of two of the best prison movies made! Also written by Stephen King and also directed by Frank Darabont! Those two together created Magic in film making!
It’s no surprise that the this wonderful film is always in the top three of most ‘best of’ lists, and as always another great reaction 😁✌🏻
Fun fact: Currently, $1.00 in 1966 is equal to $9.39 today. That means that Andy ran off with close to $3.5 million of the warden's ill-gotten money. Plenty of money to buy a little hotel and a fixer-upper fishing boat in Mexico.
"Hope is a good thing"
"No Good thing ever really dies"
"Get busy living or get busy trying"
This movie has some of the best quotes.
get busy living or get busy dying
I think that one line is "Get busy living, or get busy dying." Not terribly long after this movie came out I reached my rock bottom and after being forced kicking and screaming into drug rehab and court ordered "recovery" and failing miserably at it at first until I calmed down enough to give it am honest shot, this line was my mantra. One of the most incredible experiences of my life was when I had been clean and sober for 7-8 months, my human compassion returned one day out of the blue... that compassion had been missing for so long....
@@shuteme5I'm glad you've recovered. Hopefully you're in a better state of mind today.
GREEN MILE IS AMAZING, UGH I HATE THE MIST.
All three are great movies, the Mist might be the opposite of this movie. Hope is lost
I think I’ve watched your reaction to this movie four times already. Ya’ll make me tear up, so much empathy in both of you.
Watched this movie 50 times…Brooks gets me every time.
fun fact: 370k in 1966 is equivalent to 3.4 million dollars today
Wasn't the beach ending a reshoot after a few early test audiences based on that being the top thing they mentioned?
A shame they didn't make a sequel and show us what happened to them.
Its refreshing to see people who haven't been desensitized by violence and cruelty, it's good to guard our hearts, for ourselves and our kids 🙂
Watching this video, I remember why I never rewatched this movie even though I liked it. I can’t watch The Green Mile for the same reason. And I love Peaky Blinders, but I have to fast forward through a lot of scenes.
And on that note: DO NOT WATCH "The Green Mile"!!!!!!!!!!
Being oversensitive is just as bad.
MY favorite movie of all time. This movie has everything - unreal characters, story, and wow what emotion
A perfect movie. Andy even helped Hadley’s wife, by arranging that gift.
I don't know if they could handle What Dreams May Come. I blubber throughout the whole thing and I've watched it many times. Excellent movie.
@@scapito "Visually stunning". Perfect description!
I love Pleasantville
• “Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies.”
• “I mean seriously, how often do you really look at a man’s shoes?”
• “Get busy living or get busy dying.”
Such a phenomenal piece of storytelling. Stephen King, y’all! Try his other non-horror stories made into movies: “Green Mile” and “Stand By Me.” So so good! 🔥🤙
Now, this is how you make a good movie... A masterpiece.
