Tom Hanks is an incredibly versatile actor. You MUST see him in "Cast Away", "Philadelphia", and "Apollo 13". Every role that he plays shows a different level of his acting chops.
Captain Phillips
If only he wasn't a raving lunatic in real life he might be alright...
Actor... yes.... versatile.... no
I was waiting for you to recognize Kitty!
Love Castaway (educational) and Apollo 13 is tremendous.
Tom Hanks is just a great actor that chooses great movies to be in. Please check out A League of Their Own. It stars him, Geena Davis, Madonna, Jon Lovett. Great movie based on women's professional baseball league during WWII. Good history, has comedy, and a great cast. I think you will both enjoy it.
Classic
There’s no crying in baseball!
Highest grossing baseball movie ever made. I forgot how good it was until people starting reacting to it.
@@jaydisqus3353 I watched in on a whim a few years ago for the 1st time since it was released. Forgot how great it was
And Geena Davis actually caught that fastball with her bare hand. Double impressive.
This was directed by Penny Marshall. At the time, there were very few female directors in Hollywood. She also directed Tom Hanks in 'A League of Their Own'. You may know her as "Laverne" from 'Laverne and Shirley'. She was also married for a while to Rob Reiner, director of 'This is Spinal Tap', 'Stand By Me', 'The Princess Bride', 'When Harry Met Sally', 'Misery', 'A Few Good Men'...
Now that I think about it, Penny Marshall, Rob Reiner and Tom Hanks all had roots as actors in television sit-coms (Laverne and Shirley, All in the Family and Bosom Buddies)
I've always loved the innocence he brought to the role. Actually, the kid who plays him as a child acted out the scenes before Hanks did, so he could see how he would move and react.
Including the scene where he grabs the actresses boobs? 😂
That's cool, and a really good idea.
I think I read that he did something similar for Forrest Gump - copying the speech patterns and mannerisms of the actor playing Young Forrest.
So the kid kissed Elizabeth Perkins so Tom could see and imitate for his role?
Others have suggested it but I gotta agree with A League of Their Own. One of the best baseball movies ever made.
There’s no crying in baseball!
I was going to suggest that!!! Such a beautiful movie!!!
Yessss
That movie would be up their alley.
Love that movie and Rosie O'donnell and Madonna were actually so great in it too...the whole cast was just brilliant and Tom Hanks once again proves what an extraordinary actor he truly is...such a different role, once again and brilliant. ❤
Love, love this movie! Splash (1984) is another great one featuring an even younger Tom Hanks, as well as Daryl Hannah, John Candy, and Eugene Levy.
Splash is the movie that made Tom a star.
"Where you going, Mr. Fat Jack?"
I'm goin' to get the little boat.
"The little boat!!!"
YES! Splash is one of my favorite movies.
Yes!!! I love Splash!
"OH, what a week I'm having!"
Although a totally different plot, Splash has the same (well, at least similar) sensibilities as Big. And John Candy was a hoot in it.
When the kid wished to be big, I remember my grandpa saying “Geez kid...you could wake up 500 pounds you dumb-dumb” 😂😂😂
Tom Hanks captured the kid trapped in an adult's body so ridiculously perfectly! The physical mannerisms....the speech patterns....the emotions so clearly visible in his facial expressions. You can actually BELIEVE that he's a 13 year old kid no matter what he looks like.
The woman who played his mom won an Academy Award for supporting Actress in the movie "The Fisher King". A terrific movie with Robin Williams, Jeff Bridges, and Mercedes Ruehl (The mom)
Loved her in "Lost in Yonkers". That would be another one for Jay and Amber to watch.
Love that movie.
The Fisher King is one of my very favorite movies. To me, every moment is filmed perfect in it.
That's one of my favorite movies.
Love Mercedes Reuhl also in the movie Married to the Mob with Michelle Pfeiffer
And Alec Baldwin. Great movie
Tom Hanks getting nominated for an Oscar for Best Actor for this performance. He lost out to Dustin Hoffman in "Rain Man"--another film that definitely needs a reaction
Yes, Rain Man was on my list of movies they should react to also.
Rain Man with s young Tom Cruise. Great movie well I don’t know how young cruise was but to be paired with Dustin Hoffman another great actor. If you ever watched the Robin Williams movie Hook. Hoffman is Captain Hook to Williams grown up Peter Psn.
He is so great at portraying that childlike sense of wonder. You really believe he's a little kid. That's not easy for an adult. He's simply brilliant.
Saw this in the theater, I had just graduated High School. It’s hard to explain, but at no point did we think about the relationship being inappropriate. It’s a fantasy movie, not a historical drama. Things change, nowadays a lot of movies that were hugely popular wouldn’t be made. But these types of things never affected us in a way that shaped who we were. The message was, be young at heart, and that’s what we took from it.
This is just one of those movies where everything came together. Creative script, great direction and a killer cast. All of these things were excellent but Tom Hanks really brought it to life. He is so good at playing a child in an adult's body that he makes it all believable. Comedy acting is underrated. I can watch this movie over and over. It's just on of those little sparkling gems. Penny Marshall never got enough credit for her directing.
Penny Marshall has made so many amazing movies!
There's actually a deleted scene where she does decide to become a kid again and shows up in one of his classes. I'll try to find the video and link it
Couldn’t agree more!
Tom researched the role by hanging out with the two boys who co-starred. It was basically the same technique he used for Forrest Gump, where he created his character simply by hanging out with the kid who played him as a child, and absorbed everything about him.
Have you guys seen Nicolas Cage in "Family Man"? The Dad gets a chance to find out what his life would be like if he taken a different path. Funny and sweet, like "Big".
I'm so glad y'all listened to us! I was one of your viewers who suggested this movie! Tom Hanks is the best! You need to watch "Sleepless in Seattle" It's a romantic comedy with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan!
"You've Got Mail" with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan is also great!
@@carriesmith742 Yes, I think Tom and Meg had great chemistry in their movies together. I believe that Tom's wife Rita Wilson was in "Sleepless in Seattle" also. It was a sweet little movie!
Joe vs the Volcano
Loved that movie! So I'm going to age myself...when I was working at Moviefone (became AOL Moviefone), they rented out the whole movie theater and we watched it before it premiered! Still one of my favorites of all time. I live in NY and it's such a NYC movie too. Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan were so great as usual!!! He has been in so many extraordinary movies, such a talented actor!!! 💛
I have read some of the comments and someone suggested "Turner and Hooch" It's one of Tom Hank's earlier movies about a young man and a junk yard dog! A great funny movie!
One of our favourites for Tom Hanks is Turner and Hooch, he was hilarious but it also had it's serious moments and heartbreaking moments. Showing an excellent example of his skills in what is generally a hilarious movie 🎬
That's one of my all time favorites
23:15 Yes, those were definitely real toys in the late 80s. They were called Pogo Balls, and they were pretty fun. They came in several color combinations, and you could deflate the ball portion (which was kinda peanut shaped) and remove it from the hard plastic deck, then you could swap colors with your friends and air them back up with a pump just like a basketball.
oh the giant piano scene became a classic almost instantly. and i’m telling you guys, you HAVE to react to “that thing you do!” if you’re tom hanks fans! he wrote and directed it, and he also has a small role. it’s a perfect little movie about a one-hit wonder band in the early 60s. gorgeous costumes, wonderful acting from the entire cast, great music, and i have never seen a single reaction to it on youtube. please please please put it on your list!
and perfect story about the music business
Love that movie! It wasn't a hit and I don't get why. It was great fun. Tom Hanks is multi- talented 💖
Great movie 🎥 recommendation!
Another great Tom Hanks movie is Saving Mr. Banks. It’s the story about the writer who wrote Mary Poppins.
Yes. It is my happy place movie when I have a bad day.
Tom Hanks is this generation's Spencer Tracy. The depth of his roles is astounding.
Agreed .I love Spencer Tracy and they share something in common as the only actors to win back to back Academy awards. Spencer for Captains Courageous(1937) and Boys Town(1938), and Hanks for Forrest Gump (1994) and Philadelphia (1995)
I've always thought of him as this generations James Stewart. He can play just about anything.
@@egk2584
yes, he's more of a Jimmy Stewart. I laughed at the movie "Harvey". Jimmies sister reminded me of my Grandmother.
Was Spencer Tracy a nonce as well?
Amber has such genuine mom concern on her face the whole time. Such a fun movie
That piano scene became so popular and it still is. It's a classic scene and even the tune they were playing became even more popular and just classic all the way around.
I saw someone recommended “A League Of Their Own”. This is a great pick. Fun fact is that “Big” has the same director, Penny Marshall!
Love love love this movie. The piano scene is ICONIC. Your reactions were as precious as the movie.
"Christmas Vacation" is very light-hearted for the holiday
If he lives to be 100 he will never forget her, you never forget your first. (first time or first love)
Our introduction to Tom Hanks was in a 1980 show called Bosum Buddies. He and his roommate moved into an apartment building that was for women only, so they constantly had to dress in drag. It was hilarious. I think his first movie was Splash, which is still a favorite of mine. You should definitely check it out!
Splash!! Classic :)
To me, one some of his greatest movies from that era are Splash, the Money Pit, and the Burbs. The Burbs is absolutely hilarious. And you guys will definitely like it.
It was also a coming of age for her as well. She always ended up with guys who didn’t respect her and he showed her what liking someone for themselves and not what they can get out of it. Keep it in mind. She did not know how old he really was. Not sleeping with her that first night woke her up to the possibility that someone was interested for more than just her body. She discovered the joy of just having fun. She started to see what life could be. In the end he missed his family and she I hope found enough confidence to quit letting guys who didn’t respect her talk her into things she really want to do. Tom Hanks is the best Actor to come along in the last 20 years. Now you know he was really good at comedy too
The first song that Josh and the boss do on the piano is called "Heart and Soul". It's a pretty standard song for people to learn on the piano (especially as a duet) so, it's not surprising that you'd heard it before. It was originally composed by Hoagy Carmichael and it, actually, does have lyrics! There are a lot of people who have done covers of it but, the most popular version was done by The Cleftones, who made an R&B version of it. It'd be a great one for your music channel!! 😊
P.S. The little corn on the cobs are called "baby corn". 😉
"He should still be playing with toys."
Kinda was, in that moment.😎😳😂
Another great reaction, you two!
My favourite moment is when she asks him how he feels and he gets that sheepish grin and rolls his eyes, and his her with the rolled up paper.
The innocence of the emotion. 😊
Hanks did a terrific job in this movie. I see a lot of other Hanks films being recommended, but not one of my favorites. The Money Pit. Hanks was hilarious, but honestly- the supporting cast was brilliant in it- making it a real fun movie- especially if you've ever had to do house renos before.
_The Money Pit_ and _The Burbs._ I can’t say they don’t get a lot of love because they do get tons of fan love, but they should get more recognition.
Thank good you're here....a second ago I thought the Care bears were here..
The Money Pit and the Burbs… yes!
LOL. “You are so much less attractive when I’m sober.”
“Good thing it isn’t that often.”
Oh my goodness, The Money Pit was my favorite for a while. It made little kid me laugh so dang hard
I’ve seen a few others suggest That Thing You Do and I couldn’t agree more. Such a fun movie focused on the rise of a small town band. One of my favorite Tom Hanks movies. Definitely do the extended version.
I think people either don't know or forget that Hanks started as a comedy actor. Remember Bosom Buddies TV show? All his early stuff was comedy and as he aged he moved into dramas but he was a comedy actor first.
Funny story, my husband was a flight steward aboard Air Force One for many years; and while on crew rest in Switzerland at a ski resort no less, Elizabeth Perkins noticed my husband was American and proceeded to tell him all about the divorce she was going through. He was just just a guy trying to eat his lunch and look at the view! It was 1988, the year this movie came out. Have a great weekend!
Too bad he didn't appreciate the opportunity to have, in that beautiful place, a surprisingly meaningful moment with a stranger that is also and iconic (as this movie is, and the remake of Miracle on 34th St ) actress and have and give her the kindness and human connection she obviously was needing. That's would have been more beautiful and precious than only appreciating the beautiful place.
I haven't seen this movie since 1989. I remember Tom Hanks giving a great performance that was both funny and endearing, but 30 years later there are moments that definitely raise eyebrows. We were so innocent back then XD
The PIANO scene is iconic and they actually did this. Penny Marshall did a great job directing this movie.
The piano scene was at the famous FAO Schwarz toy store in Manhattan. The piano used to be on the balcony so when you came in the front door, you could see people playing on it. Yes, you could play with the toys in the store.
I grew up in NYC & loved FAO Schwarz toy store. As an adult, I brought my niece & nephew there all the time so they could play with the toys. The best was going after they filmed this movie and they had pics from the filming and we all played the big keyboard.
My nephew has degree in toy designing. For one of his college projects, he had to design an action figure of himself including the box. He had to learn how to use a sewing machine. Fortunately my sister had a sewing machine. One of the things had to sew was a teddy bear with movable parts and an Elmo doll. He used ping pong ball for the eyes.
A great movie you would love is Parenthood, I love that movie! It has Steve Martin, a young Keanu Reeves, so many other great actors of that time and it's all about family and how crazy your family can make you and all the complicated interactions in an extended family unit; but mostly it's about love and laughter and memories to fill your life and heart. Great film.
Yes, we recommended Parenthood after they watched Planes Trains and Automobiles.
This. Please watch Parenthood! It's wonderful.
Imagine the chance to see how it would be as an adult and then being able to go back to being a kid just so you could appreciate it that much more. ♥️
This movie has a special place in my heart because it was the first movie I paid to take my dad to. Then after he took me to get ice cream and locked his keys in the car. I was ten and 34 years later still a core memory.
Amber’s awkwardness with the love scene was me too the first time I saw this! 😂
What's amazing when you think about it, Tom Hanks started out in pure comedy with everything he did. Roles like Cast Away and Saving Private Ryan were NEVER in his wheelhouse. He went from being associated with comedic roles to some of the most dramatic pieces of cinema. He is an actor that truly bloomed and got out of his comfort zone.
Loved captain Phillips too
Tom was really good on Family Ties which was before his movies and he had a serious storyline there so maybe he always was pretty good - but definitely got better too
many great dramatic actors started in Comedy, think Hanks and Robin Williams. Makes me realize that comedy is likely harder than we give it credit for.
Don't forget about the movie money pit
This is probably my favorite Tom Hanks film. The cuteness overload is unbelievable. Love this!
I'm so glad you both loved this movie, it's such a great choice. Would you PLEASE please please give That Thing You Do a reaction? I just know you'll love it. It was Tom Hanks' directorial debut I believe.
One thing that newer audiences don't know was that Tom Hanks started out in comedic roles. The thing that put him on the map was an Early 80s sitcom called Bosom Buddies. His first big movie was Splash, with Daryl Hannah and John Candy. One of my favorite movies of all time is Joe vs the Volcano! But he really didn't start doing serious roles until the 90s. But there was The Man with One Red Shoe, Bachelor Party, The Money Pit, Volunteers, and Dragnet! Maybe just to give you a heads up.
I have no response to that. 😆
This one is so much fun. For some more fun with John Lovitz, you should try "City slickers 1 and 2" with Billy Crystal. They are wonderful
Tom Hanks started out as a comedic actor before moving onto serious roles. I loved him in Dragnet with Dan Aykroyd and in Splash with Daryl Hannah and John Candy. Sleepless in Seattle is one of my favorite rom coms that he starred in opposite Meg Ryan. He's a funny guy! :) So glad y'all got to watch Big! The scene of them playing Heart and Soul and Chopsticks on the big piano is also my favorite scene. :D
Sleepless in Seattle will always be second in my mind to You've Got Mail. The "I hoped it would be you" scene particularly
Thank God it’s Friday!
Joe vs the Volcano
On occasion you got to see the potential was there. Example of him having a drinking problem on Family Ties
SPLASH
He's young in It too. I haven't seen that in a long time. They play the others all the time.
Tom Hanks in the 80's was COMEDY! He first got famous on the TV show "Bosom Buddies," as a guy, with his best friend, who dressed in drag in order to live in a women's only apartment building. It was hilarious!
"The Money Pit," "Bachelor Party," "Dragnet," "Splash," "The 'Burbs," "Turner & Hooch," "Joe Versus the Volcano," and "Volunteers" were peak Hanks comedies!
I'm old enough to remember when he started doing dramas and people were like "WTF?" Until we saw how awesome he really was in everything!
It's funny to me that younger viewers only know Tom Hanks as a serious actor. That wasn't where he started! Although he had trained in Shakespeare, he was first well known for a sitcom, "Bosom Buddies", and then a string of lighthearted comedies like Big. It wasn't until later, in the 90's, that he began to pick up dramatic roles and his career changed. It's been very interesting watching how it's developed, and his dramatic talents come to the forefront. But this is the Tom Hanks everyone knew in the 80's - the eternally nice, sweet-natured guy who could never, ever be threatening to anyone.
Some other great Tom Hanks movies you could check out; "Splash" (also starring John Candy).
"Apollo 13" (based on a true story). And "Turner and Hooch". A buddy comedy. 😃👍
I forgot about "Apollo 13"!! Wonderful movie 🎦
Fan Fact: at 14:42 Josh's co-worker in data processing is Jon Lovitz. He had a cameo in the Wedding Singer as the sleazy guy singing "Ladies Night." He was on SNL when Big came out, did an early cameo on the Simpsons and was the voice of "The Critic".
And his cameo in A League Of Their Own is legendary. In my mind anyway.
@@babybanchie7607 "How it works is the train moves not the station"
@@GrammarQuixies I completely forgot! He’s one of the best parts of the movie 😄
@@babybanchie7607 I’ve used the pickle tickle line a few times.
Tom Hank's in Batchelor Party (1984) is hysterical, so so funny. He can do no wrong in my eyes, he's an acting beast and Big takes me back to my childhood.
That movie is raunchy! 😆
One other great thing about Hanks, he has great chemistry with old school legends. Here with Robert Loggia, in "Nothing In Common" with Jackie Gleason, and in "Road To Perdition" with Paul Newman.
Tom Hanks and Jon Lovitz were also both in A League Of Their Own. It's a must watch.
What an all-star cast! Tom Hanks, Jared Rushton (Honey, I Shrunk The Kids), Elizabeth Perkins, Jon Lovitz (SNL), John Heard (Home Alone 1 & 2), Kevin Meaney (Comedian; RIP) and Robert Loggia. Miss Patterson, Josh Baskin's secretary, is played by Debra Jo Rupp, who later played Kitty Forman on "That '70s Show".
The toy store featured in the movie is F.A.O. Schwarz and that giant piano keyboard is very real. I went to Chicago in 1998 for my senior high school trip. There was an FAO Schwarz downtown and yes, they did still have the giant keyboard inside. I was able to walk on top of the keys. Talk about a full circle moment. 🤩🥰
That floor piano generated a lot of business to FAO Schwartz. It was an amazing toy store.
Another great Tom Hanks movie is Sleepless in Seattle. It had a fantastic soundtrack.
You guys should consider watching a movie called "That Thing You Do!"
Because it features both Tom Hanks (who wrote and directed it) and Liv Tyler (who I know Amber really likes from LOTR).
It's the story of a band of young guys who forms in the Midwest in the wake of the British Invasion (Beatles, implictedly) who have a surprise hit single and the excitement and conflicts brought about by unexpected success. Interestingly, the actors learned how to play their various musical instruments so they could perform the music during live concert scenes.
I'm certain you would both like it. The music is good, the characters are well portrayed. It's a very wholesome movie in its way since it is set in the early 60s.
So it's based on a (fictional) musical group, it has Tom Hanks and Liv Tyler and even your kids could enjoy it because it's not full of bad language or sexual situations.
You should check out Tom Hanks' movie: THAT THING YOU DO - it is a nostalgic look and old time music business/rock and roll. I think Tom wrote it, directed it and he is also one of the stars. It is really fun and upbeat!
Loved this movie!
He did write and direct it! It also stars a young Liv Tyler (Arwen in LOTR).
I would love to see you guys react to "That Thing You Do!" It combines Tom Hanks and music from the 60's. think you'd really like it!
The song playing @ 29:00 is "Forget me nots" by Patrice Rushen. Wil Smith sampled it for his song "Men in black"
80-90s was the hands down best time for movies and music. Love seeing ya'll checking it all out. I miss that time so much!
LOVE THIS MOVIE! One of Tom Hank's most memorable roles.
BTW - the little corn is pickled and really good. It's soft and you can eat the whole thing. Tom nailed this role to PERFECTION
Yes, those were real toys Hanks was hoping around on during the montage with the voice over of writing to his parents. They were called Pogo Balls.
I was about the kid's age when this came out and watching it in the cinema I could 100% relate to the kid's brain of how epic all of this was! 😂
🎬 1987 comedy recommendation: "The Secret of My Success" starring Michael J Fox. You'll love it!
The first of many Academy Award nominations for Tom Hanks. A little after this one, he did "Sleepless in Seattle." Amber, that one is for you!
Turner and Hooch is a great one too. Really can’t go wrong with Tom Hanks.
Tom Hanks became a huge comedy movie star in the 80s. Then in the 90s his entire career changed and did a lot of Oscar movies.
So many amazing Tom Hanks movies. Check out Splash (his second movie), A League of Their Own (he plays a flawed character), Philadelphia (he won his 1st Oscar for the movie. BTW, his speech when he won deserved an award - so moving), Apollo 13 (A true story about a space mission that went wrong.)
You should check out his first starring film, Splash. He was on his own TV show Bosom Bubbies, where he dressed in drag to stay at an all women's apartment because it was cheaper, and guested on all the big shows of the time. He's such a great actor and has been in just about every genre of movie over his career. Still one of my all time favorites.
He even had a recurring role in family ties
It was Bosom Buddies, and even all those years ago, as a kid, I was very uncomfortable seeing men in women's clothing.
Wasn't bosom buddies a girls college dorm? I could be wrong
Finally Bosom Buddies mentioned thank you @Catman DUU.
Yes, Splash is amazing!
When Harry Met Sally is a must.
This is such a great movie. I remember seeing it in the theater when it first came out. Absolutely LOVED it! Hanks is one of my all-time favorite actors, ever since the late 70s early 80s. Great reaction! Love you guys!
The kid who plays the young Josh baskin is david Moscow.. he has a tv show called 'from scratch' where he trys recipes and makes them from scratch. Its really neat
Tom Hanks is such a great actor! He never disappoints! Got watch him in A League of Their Own!Geena Davis is also great!
Stunt doubles were hired to do the piano scene and they were going to go back and forth with the camera from the actors’ faces to the doubles’ feet, but Tom Hanks and Robert Loggia insisted on doing it themselves and pulled it off.
Glad you guys enjoyed this one, this was one of my favourites growing up! Cannot wait for you guys to watch "Cast Away"!
I remember going to see this when it came out.
It IS a special movie.
Great performances.
-Tom Hanks, honestly, was MAINLY (or, even: solely🤷) known as a comedic actor for a looooooonnngg time!
-He, really, broke through with the movie: SPLASH 🔥🔥 [which I think you guys would love, too! -It is a classic! (John Candy and Eugene Levy are in it, too)],
but was also, pretty well-recognized from being on a (somewhat short-lived) comedy series, on TV: Bosom Buddies
(The premise of "Bosom Buddies" was (as I recall it): 2, young, ad. execs., whose apt. building is demolished (WHILE they are, still, sleeping in it !!🤦🤦🤦🙄🙄). The 2, for whatever, reason, see their "best option" (only option?....) as: renting an apt. at a female-only hotel (??) or residence (of some type). To do this, both must masquerade (dress) as women (leading to: "hilarity" ...and lots of comedy which questioned/dealt with: gender roles (as well as: identity-to some degree).
Hanks and his co-star, Peter Scolari employed a LOT of improv., regularly, on the show.)
...so: it wasn't, really, until the '90s that Tom Hanks started taking (or landing 🤷) dramatic roles.
I'm pretty sure that his role in (the legendary failure): Bonfire Of The Vanities may have been his first "serious" role (although, the novel, itself and, I BELIEVE, the INTENT of the movie were: to be a dark/black comedy. ...The movie fails to bring the book to life.-just sayin' ....).
{The movie sucks, but (as with ALL of his books!): Tom Wolfe's novel is a necessary read (and an accurate depiction of the aspects of N.Y.C. which he portrays in it, in the 1980s).
[Tom Wolfe: The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test; The Right Stuff, et al.{ ALL: NECESSARY reading!}]).
...although, he did: A League Of Their Own and Radio Flyer (wherein he is, really, just the narrator [the movie is killer, though!]), around the same time (so🤷 ...maybe one of those were first 🤷🤷...I don't, really, know....).
His biggest "dramatic breakthrough" role was in: Philadelphia [1993].
I believe he won an Academy Award for that, too [🤷🤷 -maybe not, but: he is great in it. As is: Denzel.]
...anyway:after that: it was "off to the races." (i.e.: he did everything and anything ...and started to gain respect [from, both: audiences AND industry people] as one of the most versatile actors on the planet.).
...he always had a comedy bent, though and kept "lighthearted" and "slightly-off-kilter" roles as a part of his regular canon.
👍👍
Great reaction you two! 😊
This is such a fun movie! Tom Hanks is great in anything he's in.
Some other great Tom Hanks movies that I very highly recommend are: "A League of Their Own"(1992), "Sleepless in Seattle"(1993), "You've Got Mail"(1998), "Splash"(1984 - his first movie), and "That Thing You Do"(1996 - lots of great music in this movie).
Looking forward to your next music and movie reactions. 😊
I forgot about You’ve Got Mail. That is a great one along with Sleepless in Seattle.
This movie is definitely one of my favorites! Such a great film. Do yourselves a favor and watch "Joe Versus the Volcano" and "The Money Pit". Both are great early Tom Hanks movies!
Remember Police Academy?
Joe Vs The Volcano is among my favorite movies! Saw it in the theater and wanted it MANY times since! 👍
Love The Money Pit
Tears everytime with the Heart & Soul melody on the floor piano
“He’s a grown up” best line in the movie!
I remember seeing this movie when it came out and as a kid at the time it was an amazing idea to grow up and be in the adult world.
Those bouncer things were a real toy from the 80s. It was a variation of the 'Space Hopper' with the ring of plastic around the middle to stand on.
You must check out 'Turner & Hooch' with Tom Hanks, a wonderful comedy with a lovable dog.
P.s did Amber actually say 'I know my Kitty'
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Yes, I had forgotten about Turner and Hooch! Love that movie
I remember a different ending to Big…. He meets her at school and she’s a kid like him because she used Zoltar.
@@jedimario22 I don't know that ending at all. Must have been a director cut or something 🤔
@@tinabates6662 brilliant film and Tom is great as usual 😀
Those bouncy toys were branded as "Pogo Balls," and they were pretty popular for a few years in the late '80s/early '90s before almost disappearing overnight. If I recall, it was mostly due to kids getting injured from misusing them and consumer product groups warning parents about them being dangerous. For kids though, they were fun as hell.
This is probably the best and most iconic scene coming up actor Robert Loggia by this time was a veteran actor playing in dramas like Scarface,The Jagged Edge,An Officer and a Gentleman and later Independence Day. This was definitely a change but he did so well
That giant piano in the movie was in the FAO Schwarz toy store on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan NY. Unfortunately, FAO Schwarz was bought by Toys R Us in 2009 and then closed permanently in 2015.
Billy could easily be top 5 best friends in movie history.
Penny Marshall is sister of Gary Marshall who created Happy Days and the spin off Laverne and Shirley in which she starred in with Cindy Williams. Both went on to great film making careers Gary with hits like Pretty Woman,Overboard,Beaches and A League of Their Own. Penny with Awakings,Riding in Cars with Boys,Jumpin Jack Flash
Penny Marshall directed A League Of Their Own .Gary was in It as one of the League's owners. Either way a very talented family.

I was 9 years old when this came out and I loved it! I can't even guess how many times I watched it.
The musical score is amazing in this film, especially the music when older Tom hanks goes back to his home and watches the children play baseball and playing with the leafs
Thank you for including my favorite, overlooked part. When they cash the check and get the change.
It always makes me giggle.
I saw this in the theater at 14 with my best friend. We propped our Converses up on the seats in front of us and had a great time. Love this movie so much. Him playing Zork at the beginning of the movie brings on the nostalgia. Enjoy! The giant piano scene is ICONIC:EDIT: apparently I mistook the game and it's actually the Cavern of the Evil Wizard per a reply by Bill Simonis, I've received. No one is perfect.
the game is not Zork. it was a game called The Cavern of the Evil Wizard. though it is similar.
Zork is a text based game with no pictures or graphics. At least the first 4 zork games texted based. later Zork hame included graphics.
@@billsimonis my mistake... It's been many years since I saw either one. Thanks for the information. 👍🏻. I played both of these when I was a kid.
Try "Sleepless in Seattle. " is a winter holiday movie. "You've got mail" is another love story with the same main characters.
The amusement park where Zohlar ended up is Playland. A historical amusement park in Rye, NY. 🙃
I hope you two read our comments, this, my comment. I work as a groundskeeper at a large apartment community. Monday thru Friday picking up dog poop, cigarette butts, litter. Cleaning up residents’ messes around the trash compactor & cardboard recycling bin. Knocking down spiderwebs & dead bugs from outdoor lighting fixtures. Sweeping out hallways & breezeways. Pressureashing dirty sidewalks. Emptying trash barrels. Cleaning fingerprints off glass doors. Cleaning restrooms. Etc., etc. When I get home I then take care of my disabled wife. I stress about money all the time. But, I know that for an hour on my lunch break, or quick moments at home, I get to turn on your channel and enjoy a film with you!! And escape, if only for a short time. To laugh, smile, tear up, feel surprise, and the rest. It’s something I truly look forward to in getting thru a day. Especially when you watch films from my youth (the 70s, 80s & 90s). Thank you for being a bright point in my otherwise routine lukewarm existence.
This was so great to watch this with you two! Another movie that's been a long time since I've watched it. Another fun (early) Tom Hanks movies is "Splash" which also stars John Candy and Eugene Levy. It's about a mermaid. 😀
Amber - I think you would love When Harry Met Sally if you’ve never seen it. It doesn’t get reacted to often but it’s basically the most well known romantic comedy ever. Even Rob would love it, no joke.
and perfect for New Year's
That's why I love working with kids. They keep you happy and joyous. They're brutally honest, hilariously funny and full of wonder at the world. It keeps your mind young❤️
Tom Hanks is a phenomenal actor. The way he nailed those subtle childlike moments *chef’s kiss*
I love this movie. Its one you can watch over and over again and never get tired of it! ❤️
You should watch Joe versus the volcano then. It is light hearted, but in reality it is a masterpiece. It is structured like an ancient greek legend and if you watch really, really carefully, you can detect all the reasons and ideas, why certain stage elements are as they are, what they shall symbolize, what they stand in contrast to, which function the characters have. Don't know, but if you remember your days back in high school about greek tragedy and so on...
And it's a young Tom Hanks. Plus you get Meg Ryan in a triple role.
Loved this one when it came out, but I hadn't seen it in AGES! Great job, you two!! The baby corn scene is still a hoot! 😆
The bouncing toy you asked about was called the Pogo Ball. It was very popular in the 1980s
