Fun fact: when john Goodman received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Bridges got up and said a few words. While doing so, he opened up a bag he brought with him, and pulled out - and put on, the sweater that he wears in this film, and goes into the character of The Dude, and finishes his speech.

"I could listen to this voice the whole movie". Good one, so did the Coen brothers. They made Sam Elliot do the last monologue several times until he got fed up. "Don't you guys have enough footage by now?" Coen Brothers: "Oh, we had it at the first take but we just love listening to you." According to Sam Elliot.
As a fan of film noir, I absolutely love the way this plays with the framework of a noir private eye story but pours on lots of absurdity, as only the Coen Brothers can.

Such a great soundtrack. Townes Van Zandt's version of The Rolling Stones' "Dead Flowers" is one of the greatest covers of all time, taking that song to a whole other emotional level.
In the end credits the Canadian folk singer Shawn Colvin where she sings Viva Los Vegas it is incredible! And the only place you can hear it is You Tube It’s not even on the soundtrack album!
And I'm not sure if they realized they were listening to Bob Dylan in the title credits and the dream sequence , even with the picture with him and Joan Baez behind them!

This is my favorite movie of all time. Not only is it funny as hell but it is filled with nuances and call backs to other Coen Brothers films. Each time you rewatch this movie you catch more and more of the genius in this movie. So many subtle moments in the editing, the writing, the acting. So much brilliance in one movie. One example is the way Walter tells Donny to always “shut the fuck up”. This is a call back to Steve Buscemi’s character from Fargo that would talk constantly and never shut up. I have seen this movie probably 500 times and it is still hilarious!
This movie gets funnier with every viewing. I love the fact that The Dude is an unwilling protagonist the entire time. The movie just kind of happens to him.
And I always wanted to tell you this on the music channel, that psychedelic song playing during the bowling dream sequence is called Just Dropped In (To See What My Condition Is In) by the First Edition. After a few hits, they added their lead singer to their name - Kenny Rogers and the First Edition. Yes, that Kenny Rogers. Try Heed the Call, Something's Burning or Ruby Don't Take Your Love to Town.
Not to mention Islands in the stream, The Gambler and Coward of the County. I've always loved Rogers' wonderful voice but had no idea that he had done anything other than country. This song has now a permanent place in my "karaoke playlist". 😄
@@rolling-roadkill I didn't mention the country songs because they already love him for those songs, Kenny's one of their favorite country singers. I hope they check out one of the First Edition's videos and see a young long-haired Kenny singing flower power songs in the late 60's early 70's. Before he formed First Edition, he was in the folk group the New Christy Minstrels in the early 60's.
I love this movie, own it on Bluray, and watch every reaction video for it. You two were great! I was worried that the language might put you off, so I'm glad that you didn't over-censor it. So glad that this popped up today.
I don't think, with 3 kids, they have time to edit, because I do believe, if they had watched it first, they would have taken out all those unnecessary "f bombs".
I literally laughed until I cried when the Dude dropped the roach in his lap and then crashed into the dumpster. One of my all-time favorite comedy moments.
This is one of those movies that wasn't a huge box office success, but it became a cult classic over time. I dont know many people who haven't seen this movie a few dozen times. It has so many lines that friends often quote. Definitely need to check out some of the other Coen brothers movies such as Raising Arizona and O Brother where art thou? Oh Brother has such a fantastic soundtrack that it will blow you away. Also, it is loosely based on Homer's Odyssey.
Cult classic in that there's an actual religion, the Church of the Latter Day Dude. (My spouse is an ordained Dudist Priest, so I feel I have to put in a plug for it)
The look on Jeff Bridges' (the Dude) face as he glides under the women's legs is similar to the crazy look his father Lloyd Bridges, made when he sniffs glue in the movie Airplane. LOL. Great acting family, those Bridges.
The Dude is played by Jeff Bridges (son of Lloyd Bridges and brother to Beau Bridges). Wyatt Earp was played by Kurt Russell (Husband to Goldie Hawn). Sam Elliott is the man with the voice and mustache.
A cute side note: When John Goodman got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Jeff Bridges showed up as The Dude. Even gave his speech as him. Its on You Tube somewhere.
You guys would also love Raising Arizona by the Coen Bros. Nicholas Cage stars in it and I believe he was 23 years old in it! It's another one of the "crime gone wrong" movies that the Coen bros are so great at.
I like the way the Coen brothers put inside jokes in their movies. Everytime Donny tries to talk they tell him to shut up but, in Fargo, Buscemi never stopped talking. I like the heavy set detective driving a Volkswagen the parallels the one in Blood Simple. In Raising Arizona the wall graffiti spelling P.O.E. which pays homage to Dr. Strangelove.
I'm sure it's been said, but... No Country For Old Men, Raising Arizona, O Brother Where Art Thou, Burm After Reading, The Man Who Wasn't There, Miller's Crossing, Barton Fink, Blood Simple, True Grit (the remake)... I'm excited for the Coen ride with yinz ❤
The woman who got her toe cut off is Aimee Mann, she was also in the video for Time Stand Still. And the nihilist that gets hit in the stomach w the bowling ball is Flea, bass player for Red Hot Chili Peppers
it's been a few years since I've seen this but it's freaking hysterical. You have to be in the right state of mind or have the right sense of humor but watching this reaction made me remember how much I liked this movie. Awesome reaction
The Coens just have a knack for making movies where incompetent people's plans go spectacularly bad 😅 ETA: Wanted to add that this film has gained the sort of status that every year there's a convention called the Lewbowskifest where fans gather to watch a screening of the movie and they're encouraged to dress up as the characters. When it came to NYC in 2011 the main stars reunited just for the event. It was the only one I'd ever attended but I had such a great time, and even had my photo taken for a website that labeled me a Steve Buscemi groupie because I was wearing a t-shirt with his face in a huge red heart.
Believe it or not, the song playing when the Dude gets drugged (the bowling valkyrie scene) "Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In)" is sung by Kenny Rogers.
The dude is Jeff Bridges, who played Starman, a film you still need to watch & react to! Wyatt Earp in Tombstone was played by Kurt Russell, who was Jack in Big Trouble In Little China.
So . . . three people in this movie I'm sure you know (but not sure that you recognized): The short nihilist, the one hit in the stomach with the bowling ball . . . was Flea, bassist for Red Hot Chili Peppers; the nihilist who did most of the talking (aka Karl Hungus) was the Wood Chipper Guy from Fargo; and the female with the missing toe in the diner was Aimee Mann, the bassist for 'til Tuesday.
Welcome to the twisted world of Joel and Ethan Coen. Not only do they blend all manner of classic film genres into a unique style all their own, they do so in ways that keep even die hard fans on their toes. You truly never know what to expect. As different as Fargo and Lebowski are, they made them back to back. Their characters are facing moral struggles in an amoral world. If you go back for a third movie, you'll truly fall in love with their musical comedy, O Brother, Where Art Thou? It's like a retelling of The Odyssey with bluegrass music! ☮❤
34:13 The entire film pays homage to hard-boiled fiction and noir fiction. In particular, the confused plot (but also many other details) refer to Raymond Chandler. The scene where the Malibu police chief throws the coffee cup at the Dude's forehead is a reference to Chandler's novel “The Long Good-bye”: In the novel, during an interrogation, private investigator Philip Marlowe manages to dodge the thrown coffee cup (although he is handcuffed), but instead is punched in the neck by the captain conducting the interrogation. The character of the brutal police chief could also have been designed by Chandler.
One of the best things about this movie is if you go back and look at everything Walter guesses is happening throughout the movie is completely right. One of my absolute favorites.
Smokey ("You're over the line, Smokey") is played by Jimmie Dale Gilmore. He's a famous country singer/songwriter living right here in Austin, Texas. He was a founding member of The Flatlanders, along with Joe Ely and Butch Hancock. Their initial incarnation in '72 - '73 wasn't very commercially successful, but they each then became famous on their own, making subsequent band appearances very much anticipated. They still get together now and again. Their first recording project is now recognized as a milestone of progressive alternate country.
Great reaction to a great movie. Even the smallest role is written so well, so many great and unique characters. About Donny: Never missed a strike. Except the last one. Something was off then already, he felt something in his arm after the missed shot. A sign of an upcoming heart attack.
I always forget you guys are new to watching movies. This movie has so many big name actors in it and you mentioned the small parts they have played from other movies that I forgot about lol.
The Spanish language version of Hotel California was by the Gypsy Kings. I think they're most famous in the US for their covers of "Hotel California" and "Violare" (you may have heard Dean Martin sing it). Their "Mosaique" (Mosaic) is a gorgeous and astonishing instrumental with (as always) masterful guitar work. "Vamos a Bailar" (Let's Dance) has these percussion breakdowns you'd absolutely love. And great horns! I do see an official music video for "Volare" on RUclips.
What struck me after it was over is that this is basically a private eye crime flick, lol. Love the part when the Dude corners the PI who's been following him and the PI thinks Dude is a brilliant operator, HA HA! I also love the part where Dude got his jalopy back and is smoking a joint and sucking down a beer and ends up smashing into the dumpster. Hilarious!
Jeff Bridges and John Goodman are perfect odd-couple, complete opposites and yet best of friends. And I'm siding on one fan theory I head about this movie: like the Seinfeld TV show, it's a film where the plot is about nothing. And that's a good thing because you can put everything into it. On my own personal opinion, I think Sam Elliot is a guardian angel watching out for the Dude, like Clarence in It's a Wonderful Life.
Fav movie!! Took me several times watching this to pick up on everything he hears from tv or new people he uses in a line shortly after. Crazy and I love it
Y’all gotta get around to Roadhouse with Patrick Swayze. You’re going to love the cameo cast I don’t want to ruin by mentioning. Also since you’re getting back into the movie sequels don’t forget the Rocky’s. You gotta do 3 & 4 next. Plus you need to get around to some Superman. The old school with Reeves in 1978. At least number 1 & 2. 3 & 4 are ok but the first two are the best ones.
I’ll never understand how John Goodman was NOT nominated for an Oscar for this movie. His performance really tied this film together, did it not??

You two should watch 'Raising Arizona,' another Coen brothers comedy
I have to say Bunny accomplished quite a bit in a short amount of time after running away from home
This is one of the greatest films of all time
I literally laughed until I cried when the Dude dropped the roach in his lap and then crashed into the dumpster.
This movie has one of my favorite soundtracks. Everyone from Bob Dylan to Captain Beefheart to Townes Van Zandt. ❤
The Dude is played by Jeff Bridges (son of Lloyd Bridges and brother to Beau Bridges). Wyatt Earp was played by Kurt Russell (Husband to Goldie Hawn). Sam Elliott is the man with the voice and mustache.
You must see Big Fish, Ewan Mc Gregor ,Helena Bonham Carter,Danny DeVito,Steve Buscemi,Albert Finney and Jessica Lange
Raising Arizona for next reaction!! It’s a gem
One of the quintessential LA films....absolutely nails the culture of LA in the 80's/90's.
You have to watch O Brother Where art thou!!! My fav movie of coen brothers
Oh my goodness!! I’m so excited right now. Literally greatest movie ever!!
You must watch “oh brother, where art thou”, another Coen masterpiece of hilarity
Kurt Russell was Wyatt Earp, Virgil was Sam Elliott
Fun fact: the guy laughing on the chair when Dude goes to see Maude is David Thewlis he also played Remus Lupin In Harry Potter
Such a classic. This movie has been in my top 20 since it first came out!
"It must be down there somewhere, let me take another look" is the best line of dialogue ever written 🤣.
The woman who got her toe cut off is Aimee Mann, she was also in the video for Time Stand Still. And the nihilist that gets hit in the stomach w the bowling ball is Flea, bass player for Red Hot Chili Peppers
J's confidence is amazing. John Turturro the great theatrical actor is "the donut shop guy" from Friday After Next. You are incorrect sir.
This is one of my favorites of the Coen bros and I love that you understood their sense of humor! I can't wait to see if you do "Raising Arizona" ❣
Wyatt Earp in Tombstone is Kurt Russell. The “dude” is Jeff Bridges
A true classic film! So glad you two enjoyed it!!!
This film is addicting. I can probably recite most of dialogue. Some of the best lines ever!
I want John Goodman to get a retroactive Oscar for playing Walter
it's been a few years since I've seen this but it's freaking hysterical. You have to be in the right state of mind or have the right sense of humor but watching this reaction made me remember how much I liked this movie. Awesome reaction
The Coens just have a knack for making movies where incompetent people's plans go spectacularly bad 😅
ETA: Wanted to add that this film has gained the sort of status that every year there's a convention called the Lewbowskifest where fans gather to watch a screening of the movie and they're encouraged to dress up as the characters.
Great cast, great story, superb film!!😂😅😃😆😃😅
Oh, Sam Elliott was in Tombstone as Wyatt Earp’s brother, Virgil. But Jeff Bridges was not.
The scene where the Malibu police chief throws the coffee cup at the Dude's forehead is a reference to Chandler's novel “The Long Good-bye”:
In the novel, during an interrogation, private investigator Philip Marlowe manages to dodge the thrown coffee cup (although he is handcuffed), but instead is punched in the neck by the captain conducting the interrogation. The character of the brutal police chief could also have been designed by Chandler.
- “NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN” (2007) 🔥
One of the best things about this movie is if you go back and look at everything Walter guesses is happening throughout the movie is completely right. One of my absolute favorites.
This is my 1st time watching this. All I knew was it was Jeff Bridges. I had no idea what a great cast it had.
Walters ashes scene has always been my favorite part! Every time I think about it, I chuckle.
This one gets better the more times you watch it.
I can't help but move when I hear their songs Bamboléo and Baila Me. They have a great sound!
@@helindove2237 oh yeah!
@@helindove2237 Oh yes, two great songs!
Another great performance from John Goodman in a Coen bros film is "Barton Fink" with John Turturro (Jesus) as the titular character.
Jeff Bridges wasn't in Tombstone, but he has been in a lot of good movies. If you want to see more of his movies, start with Starman.
Starman! I loved that movie when I was a kid, I feel like it's so overlooked. I rewatched it a couple years ago and it still held up.
Also Thunderbolt & Lightfoot
