Congratulations Mark on the extraordinary camera / lens matchup. I have two R3s, including the V2 of the EF-400mm, for sporting events. I do recommend to use a minimum fo 256GB CFexpress card for RAW shooting and a 128GB SDii card for JPG redundancy. I always use the R3s at 30 FPS electronic mode for the peak action ball and player proximities. 15 FPS gave too much spacing. You will discover the labyrinth of R3 menu settings that can be mind-blowing. Haha! I have enjoyed your footbul (soccer) videos, which has inspired my joy covering outdoor sports. Keep rolling up the good work mate.
Nice one, got my R3 last week. Mind blowing camera. Used it to shoot the CFL Playoffs in Vancouver, Canada and man it doesn't miss a beat with a few basic set up adjustments.
Hi Mark, a little message to say thank you! I learned a lot from watching your football videos, I am a beginner photographer and I started taking photos of my godson's team a few months ago and your videos helped me a lot (I uses a Nikon D7200 (APS-C) with a Nikon 70-200 f/4) Congratulations for your new camera and lens, looking forward to seeing your next videos. Greetings from France! ps: love your reaction at 11:57!
You'll love it once you get it set up the way you want. Thats where it can be a minefield. Took us months to get settings sorted to preserve battery life and set-up the subject tracking to work for sport. Once sorted its an absolute gem. Enjoy.
Many congratulations on your new R3 and the new RF400 look forward to seeing your videos on how they perform, I'm sure you will be amazed at the quality that will come out of the R3.
Would love to know where you got the camera case from and also the 400mm protection, would be perfect for my R3 and EF 400mm. Great video once again! Welcome to the Mirrorless club 👌🏼
HI Mark.. If it is your 1st Canon Mirrorless.. Should the rear screen stop working... You have probably switched it off while you are twiddling about. To remedy, press the Menu Button and look in the viewfinder.. you can navigate the menu and switch it back on.! ( Guess what happened to me on my 1st Event with my New R5! :-D )
Good for you! You will love the R3, I use it for wildlife and also have the 1Dxiii, to be honest they are very different cameras and both have different strong and not so strong points. I set up three back button focuses on the R3, zone, eye and spot and it works great in most situations, the 1Dxiii is much better in low light but you won’t have that problem! See Whistling wings photography for hot to set up if you are interested. Anyway off to photo deer now😊 all the best, Rich.
Great combo especially for fast action/sport. For wildlife I have mixed thoughts. Its better when focusing but in some scenarios R3 lacks mpix and R5 is more suitable.
Best of luck with the new camera, you will not be disappointed. I shoot sports in Ireland and use an R3 and my trusty 1dxii as well as an R5 but my go to for all types of shooting is hands down the R3. Great content and real world advice 👍
The little bits of padding with the RF400 velcro into the carry case to secure the lens once you have unwrapped it. Good luck with the R3 set up, you will love the EV to review images on the fly. Dont forget to check/upgrade firmware to 1.5.1 then try 1/64000 with 195fps !! Also worth considering moving to BBF. There are so many AF options available I use different settings on different back buttons.
Congratulations with your purchase. It's super exciting to open new gear. However, I have decided to not buy the R3 as I am looking for the R1 but I won't buy it in the first year of launching anyway. It's a business decision as I don't see any benefit that is a game changer and I understand that I can't get out of business by having a DSLR (specially a 1dxm3). So in my opinion it's pointless to spend this obscene amount of money for "no reason". Honeslty, sometimes I fancy that I can shoot the next 20 years with a DSLR and nobody will notice. Specially with people selling their 1dxm2 and m3 for bananas prices.
Yes I agree a camera is only as good as the person pressing the button. I’ve invested in the 1DX Mk3 after trialling it in 2020 lockdown, hopefully they will keep updating the software whilst it is still a current camera although knowing Canon I am doubtful.
I was very close to trading my 1DX ii and R6 ii in, for a R3, but I decided against it in the end. I still wish I could have, but having a great camera (R6 ii) and the 1DX ii as redundancy was made relevant when one of my colleagues' 1DX ii bricked itself and he'd forgotten to pack his second one in the bag.... He was forced to use an old 1D4, much to his dismay lol Using the R6 ii for indoor events such as martial arts and gymnastics is a game changer and I don't feel the R3 would do any better, so I've resigned myself to keeping the R6 ii for the foreseeable future.
You were so excited mate I could tell when you said it was a bit small for your little finger but you’d not got your forefinger on the shutter button haha 😂 The new 400mm 2.8L is great I hired the EF version in 2020 and it was incredible - the RF is the same lens with an EF/RF adaptor welded on! Cheers Spike
Heya Mark, if it's not too personal, I was wondering if you struggle at all getting paid day rate, as I can imagine it leads to you not getting 5 days a week worth of work, unless u aim to do that much. It's one of my big worries looking into the future about going professional (not getting enough jobs to get a good income)
It's a sad day for the EF 400 F2.8 mark 1😢, your going to love the RF 400 just on the weight saving alone!!! Be prepared to love mirrorless and hate going back to your other cameras once you use to eye tracking, touch display, exposure displayed in the view finder and reviewing images.
What an exciting day!! Early Christmas for you. Congratulations on the new kit!! I was wondering, does your insurance have a deductible? Thanks for sharing your experience. We enjoyed it with you and I am looking forward to seeing you put it to good use. Cheers!!
Congratulations on your purchases. I love my R-3 and EF 400 combo. I have been saving to get a RF400 but I haven't done it yet. Now I want to save and use the money I have towards a RF 100-300mm. I just believe I'll get more bang for my buck with the RF100-300mm. What are your thoughts?
Congratulations, next time put the camera a little closer and pointing a little more upwards so we can't see absolutely anything, but your head and the curtains. Best regards!
@@MarkKerton Congratulations on your new equipment, awesome, there were no bad intentions in my comment, I just wish I saw it a little better. Thank you man, greetings!
Bugger it Mark. It was like watching Canon porn. Enjoy the new machines and next time you pass old timers (like yours truly) who financially continue to use old kits please give us a supportive tap on the shoulders. We will be ok….
What a great bit of kit you've acquired! Congrats, Mark!
Looking forward to seeing the images you capture with this new kit!!
Congrats man, looking forward to your videos with it.

It was great to see how happy you are when you see your new RF glass. Be like this all the time!

Congrats!! I would recommend to replace the foot with a Leofoto one. It will help if the original one is like new if you ever decide to sell the lens.
Congrats Mark!

You’re going to be 100% mirrorless faster then u think. It is game changing. Hope you got an ef-rf adapter.
Congratulations Mark welcome to the mirrorless club let your new learning curve begin you won't look back, mate 👊
What waterproof cover do you use with the RF400 please Mark?
Looks like we have a happy bunny there !

Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄 ❤️
Nice new toys
Happy hunting!
It would be great to see some live viewfinder footage while you shoot football
Поздравляю с великолепным приобретением Вас Mark! Canon R3 + RF крутая связка. Привет из Казахстана 🇰🇿
Congratulations 🎉❤ Enjoy your beast 🤪
I just grabbed an R5C - much nicer than the Sonys IMO.

I'm also saving up for the 100-300mm. It's such a versatile lens that I'll be able to use for sports as well as events, theatre work, speeches, etc.
@jeffkernen1554 My point exactly 💯 don't get me wrong I really love my 400 but that 100-300 I think is a real game changer by Canon. Happy shooting.
Note this Mark: The hot shoe cover of rubber are you going to lose! But secure it with a piece of tape, then you won't lose it.
My latch has broken on my old 400mm f2.8. Anyone got any suggestions if they be repaired or I need to get a new hood
You look like a kid when they get new toys... Have fun, dude!
Like a kid at Christmas. 😁 Not jealouus in the slightest🙄 Keep the vids coming
felicitaciones!!💪💪💪
Program that * button for eye focus! You will be amazed at what you can do!
Aleluia for insurance, congratulations Mark!
I'm filling out insurance quotes right now...

Well, appreciate your feedback anyway👍🏻

What are you going to like at Christmas? 🙂
The new straps Canon ships with their cameras are absolute shit compared to the older one.
